Should I wipe my iPhone before updating to 3.0

...the only reason I ask is this: My iPhone has been experiencing lag and crashes that I hope do not persist into the 3.0 update. For this reason, and to ensure a 'clean install', should I wipe my iPhone before upgrading?

Everything is backed up then erased anyway when updating. I would just leave it like it is.

  • Can I see the budget of unread emails on ipad and iphone before update?

    Hello everyone.
I would like to know if I can see the budget of my unread e-mails on ipad and iphone before update.
That is, I turn on my ipad or iphone and see immediately if and how many unread messages I have.
    Thank you!

If you go to Settings>Notification Centre>Mail each of your email accounts will appear here separately. You can then change if Badges are displaye on the Mail App - which will show you the number of emails - or not.
    Regards,
    Steve

Create a dummy contact on your new PC in Outlook.  In iTunes, elect to synch your contacts with Outlook.  You will be prompted to "merge" your contacts.  Once done and all your contacts are on your computer in Outlook, you can delete the "dummy" contact.

Once the Device is asking to be Restored with iTunes... it is too late to save anything...
After you have Recovered your Device...
Re-Sync your Content or Restore from the most recent Backup...

  • When changing transferring to an existing iphone should i restore the phone before or after activating it

I'm giving my son my old iphone 5 should I restore the iphone before or after activating it to the new number.

    Hey Shells1,
Thanks for the question. The following resource outlines the sequence of steps you should take before giving away your iOS device:
Before you sell or give away your iOS device, make sure that you've removed all of your personal information. Follow these steps to protect your data and get your device to its factory default state for the new owner:
    1. Back up your device.
    2. Go to Settings > General > Reset, then tap Erase All Content and Settings.
              - This will completely erase your device and turn off iCloud, iMessage, FaceTime, Game Center, and other services.
              - If you're using iOS 7 and have Find My iPhone turned on, your Apple ID and password will be required. After you provide your password, the device will be erased and removed from your account so that the next owner can activate it.
    3. Contact your carrier for guidance on transferring service to the new owner.
When the device is turned on for the first time by the new owner, Setup Assistant will guide them through the setup process.
Important: Do not manually delete contacts, calendars, reminders, documents, photo streams, or any other iCloud data while signed in to your iCloud account, or the content will also be deleted from the iCloud servers and all of your iCloud devices.
What to do before selling or giving away your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

    Good morning
I am trying to upgrade my iPhone via my macbook but the following message keeps coming up and the download does not work
"There are purchased items on the iPhone “Mark Price’s iPhone” that have not been transferred to your iTunes library. You should transfer these items to your iTunes library before updating this"
Please advise how I can transfer these files, I am not sure what files are in question.
I've only had the MacBook a couple of days, I am PC savvy but this is all new to me so please keep it as simple as possible. I am a brit based in Bahrain.
    Regards
    Mark Price

okay I've done everything regarding the transfer process (via file>transfer purchases) and syncing, so everything on my iPhone device seems to have been transferred to my iMac... however, I still get that message ("There are purchased items on the iPhone..."), trying to upgrade the iOS Have tried several times the same process of hitting transfer purchases via file, but nothing seems to make that message go away! Would have been nice to know which files I actually do need to transfer, which I don't get any info on of course...
Starting to get really annoying this thing.. Any smart suggestions what's going on?

  • There are purchased items on the iPhone "asingh's iPhone" that have not been transferred to your iTunes library. You should transfer these items to your iTunes library before updating this iPhone. Are you sure you want to continue?

When I am trying to upgrade my iphone to IOS7.0.2 by connecting my my iphone and macbook, it shows "There are purchased items on the iPhone “asingh’s iPhone” that have not been transferred to your iTunes library. You should transfer these items to your iTunes library before updating this iPhone. Are you sure you want to continue? ".  I hit the same issue and lost a lot of apps from my iphone. Can someone help on how to resolve this issue? I can automatically upgrade my software on the iphone but how shall I resolve any future updates of "Apps"?

I appreciate the answer, but what you describe is not entirely accurate.  First, to even see view, you have to enable the menu by clicking on the icon in the upper left.  View allows you to show the sidebar.
Second, you will NOT see your devise listed in sidebar or anywhere else.  Instead, you have to click on "devise" from the sidebar menu, wait a minute, and then it will finally show up under "devise."   Or maybe it just takes a minute to show up whatever you do.
Third, right clicking on your devise will take you to a menu with "transfer my files" on it, but then iTunes will refuse to make the transfer.  Instead, it will tell you that <your apps> on your <devise> could not be transferred to iTunes "because you are not authorized for it on your computer."  Apple unhelpfully suggests going to store> authorize this computer.  There is a "store" menu item on the sidebar, but it has no "authorize this computer" sub-menu.  Instead, go to the horizontal menu at the upper left, and THERE you will find "store" and the "authorize this computer" sub-menu.  Now you can transfer your files, to who knows where.
My iPhone 5 is my first Apple devise. So far my experience has been, to do A, which must be done right now, you must first do B.  To do B you must first do C, which is unexplained save in answers in user forums.  To do C you must first do D, which, after several hours of research and puzzle solving, can eventually be done.

  • Should I erase my hard drive before updating to Yosemite?

I am planning on updating to OS X 10.10 Yosemite on my late 2009 3GHz 4GB RAM iMac soon from 10.9.5 Mavericks, and I've always heard it is best to erase the hard drive and wipe it clean when installing a new version of the OS.  Is this still true?
And since the OS no longer comes on an install CD disc, is it still recommended to erase the HD before installing fresh?  If so, how is this best accomplished without such an install CD?  Copy the downloaded installer to a flash drive or CD/DVD or external hard disk?
Or has the Mac OS progressed enough that simply using Software Update is now the best and recommended way to upgrade OS X?
Any best practice recommendations would be most appreciated.  And as always, I backup all of my important stuff before I perform such an install (though I do not use Time Machine as yet).

You don't say how you are backing up, other than that you don't use Time Machine (which is not a bad thing, given the reports of problems with the reliability of Time Machine backups). I'd suggest that you buy Carbon Copy Cloner and use it to make a complete, bootable backup of your system on a second hard drive.
4GB of RAM is borderline skimpy. You may need to at least double what you have installed now: http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/memory/iMac/DDR3_21.5_27
Download DiskmakerX: http://diskmakerx.com/, and get an 8GB flash drive. You can use DiskmakerX to put the Yosemite installer on the flash drive.I'd also suggest that you try to re-download the Mavericks installer before you do any other steps, and store it in a safe location outside of your Applications folder. You may want to revert or re-install at some point. You can also make a flash drive for Mavericks, if you have succeeded in downloading it.
"Install OS X Yosemite.app" (or or any installer later than Snow Leopard) is downloaded to your Applications folder. When the download is complete, the installer application launches. It is at this point that you quit the installer and copy (not move) it to a safe location outside of your Applications folder, perhaps in the folder of backups you (should) maintain for stuff like system updates and installers. You need to do this is because "Install OS X Whatever.app" very unhelpfully deletes itself after the installation is complete.
Make your flash drive installer at this point. When you are done, locate the copy of the Yosemite installer that is still in your Applications folder, launch it, and upgrade the system on your internal drive. With a cloned, bootable backup, you can easily revert to Mavericks if Yosemite doesn't run well.

    Hi s.kouris,
I'm afraid that unless you are able to contact the previous owner and have him wipe the device, or provide you with his Apple ID password so you can delete the iCloud account, you are out of luck.
With iOS 7, an Activiation Lock was added to deter thieves. This lock prevents anyone but the owner of the device from deleting the iCloud account and restoring the device:

Unless you are able to reach the original owner and get the device wiped or the iCloud account deleted, you are stuck with a brick.
    Sorry,

  • HT4061 When proforming the new iPhone update I received an error message-iTunes has detected an iPhone in recovery mode.  You must restore this iPhone before it can be used with iTunes.  If I choose to restore will i get everthing back.  Like my photos et

When performing the new iPhone(IOS6) update I received an error message - iTunes has detected an iPhone in recovery mode.  You must restore this iPhone before it can be used with iTunes.  Will I lose everything if it goes back to factory settings.  Right now my phone wont do anything.  It is just showing a cable, an arrow  and the iTunes logo.

    If you restore from backup.
You should have made sure that everything was on your computer bef ore updating anyway.  Did you fail to do that?
All pics taken with iphone should be imported to your computer regularly as you would with any digital camera, most especially before any update/restore/etc.  Did you fail to do that?

Power cycled phone - made no differenced.  Ejected, reconnected,..no difference.

  • Sir, kindly tell me, can my iphone 4s downgrade ios 8.0.2 to ios 7.1.2 because ios 7.1.2. is working very smooth in my iphone 4s before update ios 8.0.2

sir, kindly tell me, can my iphone 4s downgrade ios 8.0.2 to ios 7.1.2 because ios 7.1.2. is working very smooth in my iphone 4s before update ios 8.0.2

No, Apple has closed the access to verify iOS 7.1.2. So, you know, you can't downgrade from iOS 8 to iOS 7 any more. Instead of bearing the pain of slow iOS 8 on your iPhone 4s, I think you should learn how to speed up iOS 8 on your iPhone, say clear junk files and delete unwanted photos and messages to leaving more storage for running iOS 8, end multiple task and reduce motion effect to boost the performance.
