Should shortname be the same on new computer?

I'm upgrading to a new macbook pro. does the shortname have to be the same as the old machine if I want everything intact? I plan to move the files manually and not use the migration assistant. I will be installing the same apps and would want to preserve the settings/preferences. Usually I do this by copying the old .plist files of the apps i'm installing into the new machine.
will everything work okay if my 'shortname' is different?

You can't migrate a user account with the same name using migration assistant. It will tell you that when you try and ask you to migrate a different user.
Setup assistant is a different application that runs when you first turn on your new computer. It's a much better choice to transfer your information and will probably give you the least trouble. You will have options to choose a network drive, external drive, or another computer using target disk mode for the transfer.
That's your best option to copy your user account and applications if you desire from your old computer. That way you will have the same account info as the old. Just make sure you have it ready to go before starting up the new and know which method your going to use.
If you set up your new computer first and create an account, it may not have the same shortname as the old. As long as you can access the files that you've backup to an external drive and they are not protected, you can copy them to the new user folder. It's not a problem. If it's a different user account on the same computer, usually you won't have access to the files. If you copy the files to an external drive, you shouldn't have a problem accessing them.
If your old computer is running without problems, you can allow file sharing on the old computer, access it with the new, and copy files from the old computer to your new computer. That will also work very well. Since the old is giving permission to access it's files, you won't have a problem copying from your old user account to the new. Just don't copy the main user folder itself. Copy everything needed from within your old user folder to the new user folder. You can verify the permissions on the copied files and fix them if necessary very easily as I said before in the previous post.
If you're not using Setup Assistant, I would just copy the files needed from my old user account and reinstall all other applications manually. I would not copy over any other settings. That way I would be sure not to transfer any garbage left over from an old system. Copying applications manually or with migration assistant and then changing users will definitely give you permission problems with the applications you've installed.

  • The MAC signature found in the HTTP request '***' is not the same as any computed signature. Server used following string to sign: 'POST

    Hi,
    When trying with Postman sending a REST call to Azure Storage Queues I get:
    The MAC signature found in the HTTP request '***' is not the same as any computed signature. Server used following string to sign: 'POST.
    The code I have for creating the Authorization Header:
    var accountName = "my_account";
    string key = ConfigurationManager.AppSettings["my_access_key"];
    DateTime dt = DateTime.Now;
    string formattedDate = String.Format("{0:r}", dt);
    var canonicalizedHeaders = "x-ms-date:" + formattedDate + "\n" + "x-ms-version:2009-09-19" + "\n" ;
    var canonicalizedResource = "/my_account/myqueue/messages";
    var stringToSign = String.Format("POST,\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n{0}{1}", canonicalizedHeaders, canonicalizedResource);
    stringToSign = HttpUtility.UrlEncode(stringToSign);
    HMACSHA256 hmac = new HMACSHA256(Encoding.UTF8.GetBytes(key));
    var signature = Convert.ToBase64String(hmac.ComputeHash(Encoding.UTF8.GetBytes(stringToSign)));
    var authorizationHeader = String.Format(CultureInfo.InvariantCulture, "SharedKey {0}:{1}", accountName, signature);
    return authorizationHeader;
    Anyone any idea what I'm missing/doing wrong?
    Additional question: do i have to create for every message I want to send a new Authorization header? Or is there an option (as with Service Bus Topics) to create a header that can be used for a certain timeframe?
    Thanks.

    One issue is with this line of code:
    HMACSHA256 hmac = new HMACSHA256(Encoding.UTF8.GetBytes(key));
    Please use the following:
    HMACSHA256 hmac = new HMACSHA256(Convert.FromBase64String(key));
    and that should take care of the problem.
    Regarding your question, "do i have to create for every message I want to send a new Authorization header? Or is there an option (as with Service Bus Topics) to create a header that can be used for a certain timeframe?"
    With your current approach, the answer is yes. What you can do is create a Shared Access Signature on the queue which will be valid for certain duration and then use that for posting messages to a queue using simple HttpWebRequest/HttpWebResponse.
    Hope this helps.

  • Should I have the same admin account name on multiple computers

    Currently I have a Macbook with an admin account plus 2 user accounts. When get a 2nd macbook, should I use the same admin name on the 2nd computer? I was thinking of making all admin account names the same for multiple macbooks, time machine, network etc. Maybe it doesn't really matter and it just means remembering multiple login names and passwords. On a related question, should the same account name be used on multiple computers. This would create a home directory on each computer with the same name. Would it be best to keep seperate names? I am refering to computer accounts, not itunes or app store accounts.

    It doesn't really matter, but my vote is for different Admin names and passwords and for different computer/disk names.
    The first one is for increased security (if someone breaks your password on one, they won't have access to the other). The second one is to easilly distinguish the different macs and disks in a file sharing, network browsing and syncing situations.

  • Storage Space - Parity spaces is the same as New Spanned Volume?

    Hi, i am very new to Windows Server 2012, i am trying to setup my Windows server 2012
    may i ask how do i format my Hardisk to parity space?
    is parity space the same as New Spanned Volume?
    currently my server has 4x 3TB hardisk, if one of my hardisk is faulty in future, will 'Spanned Volume' allow me to replace the hardisk without losing data?
    appreciated for you help.
    thank you.

    Hi,
    Parity is similar to RAID5 but not spanned volume.
    Spanned volume means store data "spanned" on each disk for a quicker read and write performance. And it does not provide fault tolerance feature. Once a physical disk corrupted, all data will lose.
    For creating parity space, you should first create a storage pool, then create a parity virtual disk from that storage pool.
    Here is an article which descripted the steps and the storage layout of storage pool as well as parity space:

    Why am I getting two different conversations when the same person txts me and sends me an I message? I thought they should be in the same conversation?

    I'm experiencing something similar. My conversations are kept together but if the screen is opened to a conversation and I receive a text from that person it doesn't show up on the screen. The message alert in the upper corner indicates a new text but I have to back out of the screen and go back in to read it.

    We have 4 iphones and an Ipad in our family. When we purchase music, I would like for the entire family to be able to use it and then back it up to Icloud. What is the best and cheapest way for this to happen.  Should we all have a different apple id or should we use the same one.

    You will all need to be on the same itunes account ID.
    You can however all have seperate icloud accounts aswel.

    Yes, otherwise you will have to pay for those apps again. If an app is purchased by one Apple ID, he/she will be able to redownload it again for no cost (note: this does apply to songs, but NOT to movies).

    Are you using the virtual keyboard to input your password and you cannot see/find the characters you need on that keyboard?
    Or are you trying to use a bluetooth keyboard and pressing the printed key does not produce the right character?

  • Page size that I have to put my site to see the same on a computer supports both laptop and a desktop computer ?

    page size that I have to put my site to see the same on a computer supports both laptop and a desktop computer ?

    The viewport on a computer is adjustable by the user. iWeb sets the viewport width to the page width that you chose in the layout menu. No matter what the end user does, the page width is static and a reasonable compromise for the width of a web page that will be viewed on these devices is 980 to 1024 px.
    Safari on iOS devices cannot set the viewport. The viewport on mobile devices is fixed and its width depends on the orientation of the device. The iPhone in portrait mode has a viewport width of 320px. This means that the 980px wide iWeb built page will be squashed down to about one third of its desired size making it unreadable and difficult to navigate.
    Setting the viewport meta tag so that width equals the device width is a futile gesture since Safari on iOS will do that anyway. Its only useful if you add some initial scaling like...
    <meta name = "viewport" content="initial-scale=0.7">
    In the case of a 980px wide website, the initial scale is about 0.3 so any value higher than this will magnify the initial view of the site.
    Here's an example of a 980px wide page that has been given and initial scale of 0.7 which allows an iPhone user to see one column of a two column layout...

    Hi All,
    Recently, we've encountered some weird error for some users when trying to assign records to them through both the CRM UI and CRM SDK Call.
    The error message saying: "The user for which we are checking a privilege should be in the same org as the context provided".

    I checked the user id and the organization id, and there are both correct (in the database). The user id "fb56b107-949f-df11-a1b0-00237df0351e " is actually the internal CRM System User.
    What could the issue be?
    Can anyone help, please. Thanks

    Are you sure, the User which you are assigning is in the same organisaion. It seems that the Orgname which you are specifying is not correct. and the web service is pointing to other user which is not the current ms crm organisaion.
    Could you please paste your code here for more details.?

  • Should i use the same pass words on my macbook that i use on my ipad?

    HI...I have 2 questions...I am thinking about buying a macbook pro and when I set it up...should I use the same apple ID as I use on my ipad?
    Then...does the macbook pro have Java and Flash Player so I can play all the Pogo games?

    You should use the same Apple ID. The same Apple ID must be used in all your devices in order to sync data through iCloud and get the purchases you make in all your devices, for example. Also, you can register your devices to your Apple ID, receiving a better support if you have any problem.
    The MacBook Pro is compatible with Java and Flash Player, but it doesn't come with them preinstalled. To install Flash, visit the Adobe site > http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer Respecting to Java, OS X will ask you to install it when you want to play Java content

  • URGENT HELP:I want that the query should return in the same way

    I have a query
    select id from tableid where id in(350,241,251)
    This returns me in
    241,251,350
    I want that the query should return in the same way as specified in "in" clause.
    ie output should be in 350,241,251.
    I would really appreciate if anyone can help.

    You can achieve what you want like this:
    select id from tableid where id in (350,241,251)
    order by decode(id,350,1,241,2,251,3)in this example the decode explicitly defines the order you want to retrieve the records in.

    Firefox jumps from tab group to tab group when tab is closed. Why? It should stay in the same tab group.
    Is it bug? In any case it is very inconvenient.

    Ahh. Thanks. That seems like a bit of a hassle though. If I were to create more tabs in the group, would I have to re-bookmark all the tabs?
    I would really love it if I could just pull them in and out of the tab group screen :)

    Move the iTunes library to a shared area and then into the desired location. If this isn’t the default one, launch iTunes with the Shift key held down and choose that library.
