Should the "Unapproved" category be tidy?

Hello all,
I have done a fair amount of searching for an answer similar to my question but I haven't found something that quite fits what I'm looking for. In advance, I apologize if this is a re-post.
I just recently took over responsibility of a WSUS server and my experience with one is next to nothing. I see that whomever was managing it before me has about 1,600 updates listed in the "Unapproved" section. Wanting to make this look as neat
as possible, this pains me! Is this normal? Should the majority of the updates (if not all) be listed under "Approved" or "Declined" ? I wanted just "Approve" the updates that are at 95% Installed/Not Applicable but after doing
some reading, I don't think this is the correct thing to do.
Please help me with the best thing I can do to clean this up (if it is necessary) as I'd really like to get a good grip on this and be able to manage it successfully.
Thank you!
Dennis

I see that whomever was managing it before me has about 1,600 updates listed in the "Unapproved" section.
Actually that number sounds low, but it somewhat depends on what products/classifications are enabled for synchronization.
Wanting to make this look as neat as possible, this pains me!
Truly, I hope the motivation is not to make it look pretty, but rather to configure it correctly.
Should the majority of the updates (if not all) be listed under "Approved" or "Declined" ?
Again, this depends on which products/classifications you have selected for synchronization.
A couple of examples on opposite ends of the spectrum.
If you have Windows XP or Windows Server 2003 enabled for synchronization, then you've got 10-12 years of updates synchronized for those two platforms. But the number of updates applicable to the current Service Pack levels is probably only about a quarter
of that number. In this case, it would be absolutely normal for 75% of those updates to be DECLINED, and maybe 25% (or less) to be Approved.
On the opposite end, if you have Windows 8 or Windows Server 2012 enabled... likely ALL of those updates are still Approved, except for a small percentage that have been superseded and thus should be declined.
As a point of reference, but again -- Your Mileage *WILL* Vary -- I have 7,847 updates on my server. Of those, 2,999 are declined and 998 are approved. That approval number is probably high because I've not cleaned up superseded approvals in a few months.
But this also does not include approvals for the May or June updates. (I was out of town for two weeks in May, and there are known issues with a couple of June updates, so I'm not deploying updates in my lab yet.) So, doing the math then, there are 3,850 Not
Approved updates -- about HALF of the total number of updates synchronized to my server.
However, the key focus here should not be on minimizing the number of UNapproved updates, but rather on minimizing the number of APPROVED updates.
I wanted just "Approve" the updates that are at 95% Installed/Not Applicable but after doing some reading, I don't think this is the correct thing to do.
Unilaterally, it's not, and in most cases it's not going to make any difference at all. To Pat's point, it depends on why these updates are at 95% Installed/Not Applicable. It also depends whether these updates are superseded or not. It also depends on why
the number is 95% ... if you have computers listed in the console that don't actually exist, then it's impossible for those computers to report an update as installed, and thus the number will never reach 100% -- which is the goal, no doubt. Finally, there's
also the rare exception where some updates will NEVER be installed on some systems -- for example, Silverlight on Domain Controllers (or servers in general, to be frank).
Please help me with the best thing I can do to clean this up (if it is necessary) as I'd really like to get a good grip on this and be able to manage it successfully.
So here's what I would do:
DELETE any computers that no longer exist.
INVESTIGATE any computers that have a Last Reported Date more than a few days old .. either they don't exist or they're broken.
FIX any computers that exist but are not working. You'll know you've achieved this objective when the "Last Reported Date" values are less than 24 hours old.
Follow the guidance in my
five-part blog series about dealing with unneeded updates and unneeded update approvals.
Once you've minimized the number of approved updates, then run the Server Cleanup Wizard.

  • Which situation should we use the text item with the item category TATX

    Dear experts!
    Thank you for your attention!
I am confused with text item (TATX).
which situation should we use the text item with the item category TATX????
Someone told me that the text item is dummy and should be used as a manual of certain standard item. But the manual may be a book or several papers and it also takes up some inventory not a dummy.
So, could some body tell me what the text item (TATX) exact is and what function it has.
    Best regard!
    Tangdark

    Hi,
you can use TATX if you like to enter a text and to print some information between the item lines.

  • Why is Keynote, Pages, Numbers, and iPhoto all under the free category in the app store but say they cost money? Are they really free? Should I download them?

HELP! I need these softwares for educational purposes ASAP! I'm not sure whether or not I should purchase any of them, due to the fact they are under the free category, yet if I click each app they all say to "buy now" for a certain price. This is questionable to me, and I am unsure what the real cost of them are before I attempt to make any purchases or not. If anyone could let me know soon please, that'd be great. Or if there are any other trust worthy sites for a free download that would be great too if you could just list the process THANK YOU! (:

All Apple computer come with the iLife suite of App totally free and they are installed on your Mac by the factory when it was built and shipped.
Those iLife apps are iPhoto, iMovie and GarageBand on Mac computers that came with any of the Download Only version of OS X, Lion Mt Lion and Mavericks and also include iDVD and iWeb on older Mac computers that came with OS X Snow Leopard or previous version of OS X.
If they are not already on your Mac then you can reinstall them from either the Mac App Store, for Mac's that came with Lion, Mt Lion or Mavericks, or from the Original System Reinstall DVD discs on older Mac that came with Snow Leopard or previous version of OS X.
You need to post what model year Mac you are using and whether or not you bought it new from Apple or an Autherised Apple reseller.
As for the iWork set of applications, Pages, Numbers and Keynote, those you need to buy from the Mac App Store unless you purchase your Mac New from Apple or an Authorized Apple reseller on or after October 21 2013.
So what model year Mac do you have and did you buy it new.

  • How to make plant default on the line item along with the item category

    Hi All,
I want to default Plant on the line item along with the item category. In order to meet the following scnario.
    1. I have two plants, first plant is maintained for the valuated item and the second plant is maintained for the non valuated item (Free Goods).
Whenever user is entering an item in the sales order for which corresponding free goods item is maintained in the master record.System is proposing two lines items in the sales order.
First line item is the main item which appears along with the Plant 1 which contains valuated items
Second line item is for the Free of charge item which is being proposed from Plant 2, which contains the non valuated items.
I want that the system should always propose Plant 1 with main item and Plant 2 with the Free of Charge item by default. (Along with the item category TAN and TANN)
    Rahul

Delivering Plant is determined in the following order
    1. Customer material info record.
    2. Customer master
    3. Material master.
Use one of them an default your plant.
I think in your case you can use the materila master which will give an item level plant different. The other two will default the plant at the header level.

I tried many item category but the same error kept jumping out.
does anybody know the solution? thanks!
    best regards
    Eric

    Hi Eric
You nay have to set the item category determination properly.
Fileds are you chould have an entry which should be something like this
    Trans type -
Item cat group---The item cat that has to appear in your doc.
    for example:
    TA -
    Standard Group-----TAN
The Item category group field is in the one you have given in your material master.
    Hope this helps you.

  • Help me about the Report Category !!

In a ABAP report program's "Attributes", we can set the Logical database (eg. in HR, it's PNP) , and then, we can select the "HR report category", for the report screen category setting.  After we set the Master Data(infotypes), we will get the report with several pushbuttons in the first line, like “Further Selections” "Sort order" ...
So, my question is if I want to add some items into the "Sort Order" selection screen, how to do that ?
    Thanks a lot
    Tom

    Hi Tom,
You can create the report category from SE38-> Attributes and then give the LDB name as PNP.
Now click on the HR report category button and proceed creating the new report category by clicking the create button.
The report category name should start with 0* or 7*.
    Hope this helps you,

  • Why are some of my books in the music category?

I want all my books to appear in the Books category. Yet some of them are in the Music category. How do I move them into Books?

    Hi dew8018,
It sounds like you are using Messages on an iPhone and see message text with either a blue or green background.
When you see green text bubble, your iPhone is using SMS/MMS because the other person is not using an iPhone or has not enabled iMessage. When you see a blue text bubble, your iPhone is using iMessage.
How do I know if my message used SMS/MMS or iMessage?
You can tell which type of message you're sending by the color of the Send button and text bubble.
SMS/MMS: Send button and text bubbles are green.
iMessage: Send button and text bubbles are blue.
    From:
Send messages with your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch
You should still be able to send pictures to non-iMessage users. If you're not able to, the steps in the "If you can't send and receive MMS" section of this article are helpful for troubleshooting:

  • My phone keeps saying I am running low on storage space. Over half of the contents in it is in the "other" category. what does that include? I wish to have more music

I have a 16GB iphone but am an avid music lover. I own tons of music. I have iMatch and iCloud. As of right now my phone says I only use about half of the storage space on it in audio. Very litle is used for apps or pictures. I have another half of the storage space in a category called "Other". What is in that category? I would really like to add more music however my storage keeps stating I am almost full and need to manage. I would delete things if I thought it would make more room but it seems to take very little room off when I remove apps and pictures and does not really affect the other category. Someone please help describe what is in that category and how I can change add more room. Thank you!

w.r.t the thread below,  any solution expert..
Unable to convert imported document to WSDL      --- PI 7.1
in Pi 7.0 XSD is working perfectly... in XML spy its not showing any error. but when i want to upload in 7.1 its giving errror like
Unable to convert imported document to WSDL
    Reason:
Unable to recognize document as valid XSDCheck the selected category
what change i should make in the xsd... so that it can be imported in 7.1

    Hi
What you can do is (in XML Spy) generate a sample XML file from your schema. Make sure you tick of for "Generate all elements".
From the sample XML file that you get, generate a schema (Generate DTD/Schema). This new schema will be different to the one you have, but importing it in PI should work.
When you use it in your message mapping, just make sure that you choose the correct field as the top node and also check that all fields are there (they were in my case and worked as a glove..:).

  • Why does the "other" category take up so much space on my iphone?

I want to get rid of the "other category that is taking up so much space on my iPhone. It's taking up 2GB of space. Thanks!

This much "other" indicates corrupt files.

  • My week old MacBook w/ retina has half of its storage taken up by the "other" category. I don't have any downloads or backups. How can I get rid of it?

I now no longer have any storage and it is only 1 week old!!

For information about the Other category in the Storage display, see this support article. If the Storage display seems to be inaccurate, try rebuilding the Spotlight index.
Empty the Trash if you haven't already done so. If you use iPhoto, empty its internal Trash first:
              iPhoto ▹ Empty Trash
Do the same in other applications, such as Aperture, that have an internal Trash feature. Then restart the computer. That will temporarily free up some space.
According to Apple documentation, you need at least 9 GB of available space on the startup volume (as shown in the Finder Info window) for normal operation. You also need enough space left over to allow for growth of the data. There is little or no performance advantage to having more available space than the minimum Apple recommends. Available storage space that you'll never use is wasted space.
When Time Machine backs up a portable Mac, some of the free space will be used to make local snapshots, which are backup copies of recently deleted files. The space occupied by local snapshots is reported as available by the Finder, and should be considered as such. In the Storage display of System Information, local snapshots are shown as  Backups. The snapshots are automatically deleted when they expire or when free space falls below a certain level. You ordinarily don't need to, and should not, delete local snapshots yourself. If you followed bad advice to disable local snapshots by running a shell command, you may have ended up with a lot of data in the Other category. Ask for instructions in that case.
See this support article for some simple ways to free up storage space.
You can more effectively use a tool such as OmniDiskSweeper (ODS) or GrandPerspective (GP) to explore the volume and find out what's taking up the space. You can also delete files with it, but don't do that unless you're sure that you know what you're deleting and that all data is safely backed up. That means you have multiple backups, not just one. Note that ODS only works with OS X 10.8 or later. If you're running an older OS version, use GP.
Deleting files inside an iPhoto or Aperture library will corrupt the library. Any changes to a photo library must be made from within the application that created it. The same goes for Mail files.
Proceed further only if the problem isn't solved by the above steps.
ODS or GP can't see the whole filesystem when you run it just by double-clicking; it only sees files that you have permission to read. To see everything, you have to run it as root.
    Back up all data now.
If you have more than one user account, make sure you're logged in as an administrator. The administrator account is the one that was created automatically when you first set up the computer.
Install the app you downloaded in the Applications folder as usual. Quit it if it's running.
Triple-click anywhere in the corresponding line of text below on this page to select it, then copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C:
    sudo /Applications/OmniDiskSweeper.app/Contents/MacOS/OmniDiskSweeper sudo /Applications/GrandPerspective.app/Contents/MacOS/GrandPerspective
Launch the built-in Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Paste into the Terminal window by pressing command-V. You'll be prompted for your login password, which won't be displayed when you type it. Type carefully and then press return. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you see a message that your username "is not in the sudoers file," then you're not logged in as an administrator. Ignore any other messages that appear in the Terminal window.
The application window will open, eventually showing all files in all folders, sorted by size. It may take a few minutes for the app to finish scanning.
I don't recommend that you make a habit of doing this. Don't delete anything as root. If something needs to be deleted, make sure you know what it is and how it got there, and then delete it by other, safer, means. When in doubt, leave it alone or ask for guidance.
When you're done with the app, quit it and also quit Terminal.

  • BAPI_BUSPROCESSND_CREATEMULTI how to use the activity-category parameter

    Hi all,
I am trying to use BAPI_BUSPROCESSND_CREATEMULTI to create purchase orders.
I am having problems to use the Activity (header) Category field.
Among other parameters, in the INPUT_FIELDS table I have added a line for the field CATEGORY as follows:
    REF_HANDLE = 0000000001
    REF_KIND = A
    OBJECTNAME = ACTIVITY
    FIELDNAME = CATEGORY
Then I have added a line in the ACTIVITY table with:
    REF_HANDLE = 0000000001
    CATEGORY= ZSB
    PRIORITY=5
But no results.  The field is not entered in the purchase order I create.
Anybody could point out how to use this parameter in this BAPI?
    Many thanks,
    Aldo

Please fill category on order and after Enter debug crm_order_maintain function module.
This should help you to see where in function module this field should be filled.
you can also use crm_order_maintain for documents creation.

  • VBU-FKSAA field not updated when the item category is changed

    Hi,
The sales order is created with the item category ZZZZ which is not relevant for billing. So the VBUP-FKSAA value is blank which means not relevant for billing.
Now in the change mode, the item catg is changed to XXXX. this is relevant for billing. But even after changing the item catg the billing status is not changed. so the sales order can not be billed.
Please let me know if anyone has come across this problem and also the soution.

Thank You Vincent. It works for finish goods that currently have cost in the sap-bo (taking std or avg) . Do you what should I do when the item is receiving the first-transation and it is an inventory entry coming from DTW ? Because when I test this conditions, the field "price" is ignored and when I check the inventory entry sent using dtw the recorded cost is "cero".
    Thank a lot
