Show the carat in a TextArea without focus

Anyone know how to show the carat in an Air TextArea without it having focus (in other words, ALWAYS show where the insertion point is no matter what). I've tried everything and even resorted to calculating the text metrics and drawing my own carat, but that doesn't work too well since I think getLineMetrics() was just a joke put in to piss off developers.

That might be one of my problems. My main problem with it is that I'm using a TextArea that has wordwrap enabled. I've found that, even if there's (visibly) 20 lines in a textarea, it is still just considered one line for getLineMetrics() until it finds a line break. Since wordwrap pushes words to the next line as to not cut off or split up any words, it seems nearly impossible to find exactly where the carat is supposed to be.
I also have to make minor adjustments to a couple letter sizes (it calculates i 1 pixel less, m is 2 pixels less, etc). This may be related to what you mentioned. If so, how should I get around that?

Air3.0 and the softKeyboard not appearing on Stage.focus = InputTextfield on iOS

In RC1 of Air3.0 and earlier versions of air, I could summon the softkeyboard for the iPhone/iPad by doing this.
Create an inputtext field, set it's width and height to 0 to hide it
Then, when I want to show the soft keyboard, simply do:
stage.focus = txtCapture;
Where txtCapture is my input text field. When I wanted to hide it, I would simply set the stage.focus to any other object.
This worked great until 3.0 was offically released and now the softkeyboard does not appear on the set focus, it ONLY appears if you manually click on the input field itself, but since you can't use center alignment or any other formatting on input text fields for the iOS, I can't let it be seen
Anyone have any idea how I can get the softkeyboard to appear?

I think we're experiencing an issue with this:
We're trying to use the iCade cabinet with an iPad and a Flash application (though this shouldn't affect the problem as the problem can be replicated without any connection or involvement with the iCade unit).
To make sure that the app is able to respond to the iCade's input (which is a simulation and transmission of certain keystrokes for each input), we create a TextField set off-screen and keep it visible (as this seems to be a requirement), and then we set the stage focus to that TextField. We also invoke requestSoftKeyboard on the TextField.
I learnt from this thread that setting stage focus isn't required, but I had the same issue as someone else here, in that I read that requestSoftKeyboard isn't supported on iOS - the documentation could be more clear about exactly what this means, like it's been explained here. Besides, setting stage focus should be fine, and not the cause of the issue I'm about to explain.
We have needsSoftKeyboard=false on the TextField, and after setting that, we request the soft keyboard. The upside is that this appears to prime the runtime to respond to keyboard input regardless of where it's coming from, and the keyboard usually stays hidden. Our problem is that, sometimes on app startup and sometimes up to 15 minutes of idle time later, the soft keyboard appears without prompt or user input.
Is this intended behaviour? We're only developing this application for iOS, and aren't sure if the issue is perhaps to do with the iOS soft keyboard.
We also tried handling the soft keyboard events (such as Activate, Activating and Deactivate) to attempt to stopImmediatePropagation and preventDefault. These seem to conflict with our setting focus in the first place, so I don't think we can make use of these. We tried only preventing the event when our target TextField already has focus, but this didn't work, and I think at this point we were really just shooting in the dark!

I keep losing my history and tabs when I close. I don't have any boxes checked in the privacy section to do so. My tabs also don't show the icons.

I keep losing my tabs and history and I have it set in FF to save my history. It doesn't happen all the time just randomly but still annoying. I read all the help and everything that they said to check was fine. I also don't get the icons on every tab like I used to. some have it some don't. I have a tab up for Yahoo and it used to show the Y and now just an empty box. but Facebook shows the F.
I can live without the tab icons but it is really annoying when I lose all my history and tabs.

Old OSX Spotlight function automatically displayed path/location within the machine: e.g. desktop/folder/sub-folder/item.

thats tough man, yeah exchanging it is the best option. But why do people always leave a message saying" i'll probably just by an ipod" and it's usually followed by, "even though i don't like apple or ipod" . I mean fine, if u feel like giving up on the zen micro thats fine, i personally don't care if you're going to buy an ipod. for god sakes ipod isn't even the next alternati've mp3 players, theres plenty. You cannot import contacts from your Nano to your PC via iTunes. The syncing process is only one way. However, if you enable disk mode on your iPod, open it up in a Windows Explorer window, you should see a Contacts folder. From there you can copy them back over to your PC.
Even though this article is talking about adding contacts to the PC, it should walk you through some of the steps mentioned above.

Can I print a calander without showing the times of events. Or, alternatively, is there a way to list things without having them be an event. Just notes on the day, for instance.

It seems like a simple solution must be at hand. There is an option in the iCal Preferences (General) panel--Show event times. With this command unchecked the screen view of the month view is free of the times of day, but when I print the month view the times of day are printed.

I purchased a 16gb ipod touch 1 gen and it wont restore or show the battery chaging icon. It shows the symbol of usb cable and what appears to be an itunes symbol without the itunes words being displayed. Upon trying to restore I have gotten error codes 1603 & 1604. I referred to the apple website for assistance and followed the steps to the letter with no results. So what else should I try or could I try because I have has no such luch thus far? I have held the home button and power button I tried to enter DFU mode but unsuccessful due to the screen boots with apple logo then immediately goes to the itunes screen and no further only when connected. Will not power on without usb connection have charged battery to see if it was the issue and no battery bar locator displays with or without being connected to PC.

So you did all this:
Error 1603: If you receive this error and the iOS device is not automatically placed into recovery mode, it may be necessary to do so manually. Refer to iPhone and iPod touch: Unable to restore for steps on placing iPhone into forced recovery mode. Also, remove the IPSW and attempt to restore again. If you do not want to remove the IPSW in the original user, try restoring in a new administrator user.
Error 1604: This error is often related to USB timing. Try changing USB ports, uninstalling and reinstalling USB ports, and other available USB troubleshooting steps (troubleshooting USB connections, device not recognized properly, computer won't recognize a FireWire or USB device). If you are using a dock, bypass it and connect directly to the white Apple USB dock connector cable. If the issue persists on a known-good computer, the device may need service.
If the issue is not resolved by USB isolation troubleshooting, and another computer is not available, try these steps to resolve the issue:
Connect the device to iTunes, confirm that the device is in Recovery Mode. If it's not in Recovery Mode,put it into Recovery Mode.
Restore and wait for error 1604.
When prompted, click OK.
Close and reopen iTunes while iPhone remains connected.
iPhone should now be recognized in Recovery Mode again.
Try to restore again.
If the steps above do not resolve the issue, try restoring using a known-good USB cable, computer, and network connection.

simpliest way is to change xml structure to use attributes than wrapping that thing with AS code, it's time consuming and non efficient.

Homestly haven't a clue what's going on there.
Try trash the com.apple.iPhoto.plist file from the HD/Users/ Your Name / library / preferences folder.
(On 10.7: Hold the option (or alt) key while clicking on the Go menu in Finder to access the User Library)
(Remember you'll need to reset your User options afterwards. These include minor settings like the window colour and so on. Note: If you've moved your library you'll need to point iPhoto at it again.)
What's the plist file?
For new users: Every application on your Mac has an accompanying plist file. It records certain User choices. For instance, in your favourite Word Processor it remembers your choice of Default Font, on your Web Browser is remembers things like your choice of Home Page. It even recalls what windows you had open last if your app allows you to pick up from where you left off last. The iPhoto plist file remembers things like the location of the Library, your choice of background colour, whether you are running a Referenced or Managed Library, what preferences you have for autosplitting events and so on. Trashing the plist file forces the app to generate a new one on the next launch, and this restores things to the Factory Defaults. Hence, if you've changed any of these things you'll need to reset them. If you haven't, then no bother. Trashing the plist file is Mac troubleshooting 101.

As far as I know this is a feature specific to a given camera manufacturer. Only their proprietary editing softwares can interpret the proprietary metadata...

By 3D band are you referring to the Dock area where apps like Safari and Mail live? If so there is no way to remove this.

Thanks for taking a stab at it: that didn't prove to be the problem. That option in the settings for tabbed browsing was not checked.
I may be a bit behind the times: I am used to tabbed browsing showing all the tabs it possibly can, instead of just the last one. Sometimes it won't even show the last tab: I can have 15 tabs open, and not see a single tab. I've been confused by this into closing a window with lots of tabs open, because it looks like a single page-window.
My main problem with the tab-bar flashing to the end of the row is that it means a great deal more mouse-clicking around to browse.
I haven't tried installing the latest beta. Maybe that would fix the problem.

Try going to settings> general > reset> reset all settings. If that doesn't work. Place a headphone jack in there and just pull it out a couple times. The problem is either your iPad setting is stuck or there is actually a hardware problem and moving the jack in and out might fix it
