Showing particular part of a large image

Hi Everybody
There is a large image/map which cannot be shown on the
screen at a time. So I put it on a small screen and want to show a
particular part of the image on the big window which will
dynamically vary with user interaction.
Please help me to rid out of this problem.

There are probably many solutions. A couple I know that might
save you some time are Zoomify (their API is at

Revealing a larger image inside of a shape?

Using CS5, I want to take a shape, and to place larger images inside of the shape so that the only part of the larger image that is revealed is the part showing through the shape. I understand the Drawing Inside Mode, though I already have the larger artwork done, so it will not work with that drawing mode.
1. Is the name of the smaller shape the "mask" that will be masking the larger artwork?
2. How can I use the smaller shape to now hide the larger artwork except the part that will be revealed through the inside of the shape.

In iPhoto, my thumbnails show but larger images do not, why?

I am having trouble with some of my larger images not showing up in iPhoto. I click on "Faces" and go into pictures of my mom that I have tagged. I see all the thumbnail images of her, but when I click to view the images larger, it doesn't show the picture. It shouws a triangle with a !
I am running iPhoto '11 (version 9.2.1)
Please help me.

The ! turns up when iPhoto loses the connection between the thumbnail in the iPhoto Window and the file it represents.
Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Rebuild iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup.
If that fails:
Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one. .

Just go back in photoshop and use the Slice Select tool, then just click and select the slice and hit delete - if you're not sure which one is the active slice just right click and find the one that has the Delete Slice option.
It's possible you either added the slices by accident or if you received it from someone they just had the slices hidden. For the future, you can go to View > Show > Slices to display (or hide) slices.

Large images show up as red boxes?

im looking for some advice/feedback
i designed this website a while back

apparently the images i used in a scoller
show up as red squares on some peoples computers.
( they are extremely long - 20,000 px wide )
it works fine for me - and others - but i just checked on my
friends and am having this problem
could it be the persons internet settings?
would it have to do with flash player?
i would think it has to do with the actual size of the images
- but then why would it work on some computers and not others????
any advice / similar problems????
also - if you check the website and see red - could you post
i want to test the severity of the problem

Known issue with Flash Player 9.0.115.0 that I need to get
documented soon. I don't see a fix coming for this anytime soon
either..
Two workarounds:
Workaround:
1. Switch to lossless compression
2. Slice the large image into smaller images of less than
1024 px (but keep jpeg compression)

Bug: All emails containing unique large images show up with the image of the first viewed email

After deleting all messages in my inbox and rebooting my Blackberry,
Various emails arrive in my inbox, each containing a large image.
Whichever email I choose to open, it will show the image that it contains, but after that, every other email I view that contains a large image, displays the image of the first email, and not the actual image in the email that I'm trying to view.
This happens constantly.

I have the same problem. Running Windows 7. This started to happen with in the last two weeks. Even my older e-mails from a year go does the same thing.
Been on tech support twice and have friends of mine over to look it over.
Does not happen on G mail. Happens on my laptop and pc and HTC verizon phone.
Yes, they see it the image as fine. No help from them, verizon.
My images will have an X or show up half grey or like there Fios TV some time all blocks.
I been with them for a long time too. Since they were call Bell Atlantic.
I am at work and I use Clear.com wifi.
Feel very disappointed in Verizon.

Optimization on Load Time (Large Images and Sounds)

Hi,
I have an all flash website that works by having each portion of it to load and unload in the center of a frame based off the navigation chosen. Load times on everything but one part of my site are ok.
The dimensions of the part inside the frame are 968x674. I know that's relatively large for a flash file, but that can't be changed at this point.
Within the page there are objects that come up when you find an item on the screen. Its a dialog box and it shows text, an image, and has a voice over that reads what the text says. After you're done looking at it, there is an x-button to dismiss the window. There are 15 of these and they are exported to the actionscript. I add them in the actionscript via addChild. I figured this is a huge spot that could be reconfigured, but I'm not sure if it would make much a difference.
The other huge thing is there is a ton on the screen. It starts you off in an environment, and when you click 3 different sections, it zooms into that portion allowing you to look for the items you're trying to find.
There is also a man that talks and animates in the beginning and at the end. We are planning on taking out the end part and putting a text box up.
Here is the website.. its a propane safety site for kids. I know its kind of a weird idea, but it works and people seem to like it.

The two parts of the site we are trying to optimize is the main menu when you first are at the site, and the "Explore" section. (Just click on the cloud on the front page.
If someone could take the time to give me some new ideas of how I can get these loading times down, I would greatly appreciate it!

HELP! How do I link small thumbnail to larger image on same page?

hello, everyone! I'm working in dreamweaver cs4 and am having no luck!
see below - I'm trying to link the small thumbnails to the larger image on the left. in other words, when a thumbnail is chosen it's corresponding image would open on the left. I have tried mouse-over effects and image swap behaviors but still no luck. either the larger image replaces the thumbnail or a brand new window opens up with the larger image.
I want all effects to stay on the same page. any help would be greatly appreciated!

By default the bigger image is initally not there so I have added a display:none style in the head.
The above code will show the bigger image on left when you do a mouseover on the smaller left thumbnail image. Vice-versa when you move out the mouse the image goes away (you may not need this part). So on each thumbnail image simlarly pass the id of the image you want to show via the javascript showImage function.
Note: You can use onclick or other event per your preference.

Tiling or slicing large images in tables? Completely outdated?

I'm working through the XHTML tutorials on Lynda.com
The instructor does a demo of slicing a large image with sections that have animated .gifs. He slices the static portions and slices the animated portions and then combines them in a 3 slice x 3 slice table.
He says "I still prefer to do this with tables, since it's what it was designed for."
I know tables are outdated, but I'm not sure if it's in all respects. Like if I was going to do a data table, I certainly would use tables...
Im not sure when this video was made, but is it still in practice and a good practice?
He then shows a similar demo of how to combine slices using CSS. Is this outdated too? Are people still slicing large images?

Unlike print design where everything is static and unchanging, web pages need to be flexible and web accessible to accommodate all users, displays and devices.
Image slices have their plusses and minuses. Occasionally, you may need them to create a flexible container that resizes to content.

Unable to create large image file in iphoto

I make a lot of panoramic images by stitching together overlapping images with hugin in TIFF format, then edit them in iphoto and use it to export them in jpeg format for greater versitality of use. So far I haven't had any trouble, even with large images as big as ~25,000x2000 pixels and ~90MB file size.
However, I have come across a problem recently trying to export an edited version of a particularly large one - 38,062x1799 136MB file size. I can export an unedited version to jpeg without trouble, but when I tried to export an edited version it gave me an error saying it couldn't create the file. I looked around here for solutions and found the suggestion to check the file size in finder, it was zero. After experimenting I've found that the file size goes to zero as soon as any changes are made to the file, the edited image can still be viewed in iphoto, but does not display if you try to zoom in. I have tried making the TIFF file again with hugin to see if it is a problem with the file, but I also experience the same problem with the newly made file.
I am working on a Macbook air (1.7 GHz Intel Core i5, 4 GB 1333 MHz DDR3 Memory, Intel HD Graphics 3000 384 MB, Version 10.7.5 OS X) in iphoto '11 version 9.2.2 (629.40). Any suggestions for getting round this issue?

I thought of something that might help with working out what's going on.
After I make any edits to the image, if I move on to the info tab the image initially goes a bit blurry as it often does with large images, but instead of coming up as a clear image after a few seconds like normal, I get the image I've attached here and the file size changes to zero. To be able to see the thumbnail of the edited image I need to come back out to the library again, but the file size is still zero. If I revert to original the file size is restored.

Large images not displaying properly in Acrobat Pro 9

When creating PDF documents from any software (Illustrator, Corel, InDesign, etc), color objects over 50% of the page size have white fill. If object has an outline, the outline will appear normally, but the fill will be white. I've searched forums everywhere and have found no answer. Most forum topics on this are issue focus on settings in the program that exported the PDF. I am 99% sure this is not an export problem, but is something in Acrobat itself (a missed setting? Corrupt program file?)
To provide the best information, I've done a little scientific research. Here is what I know:
Currently running Acrobat Pro 9.5.5
This is only happening on ONE install of Acrobat 9. Documents display correctly in Reader X and in Acrobat 9 on other machines.
Started happening a few weeks ago, I have no idea what changed.
"Show Large Images" in preferences dialog is checked. Unchecking it and rechecking it does nothing.
Have installed all available updates to the software
I experimented with different object sizes. At 50% of page size, objects appeared normal, at 51% filled object disappears.
Does not affect photos, only affects vector objects.
I welcome all ideas to fix this.
ALSO - Am running this on Windows Vista 64 Bit

Your MBP is running in "extended desktop" mode, where the two screens together make one larger area to display windows. You can drag one or more windows from the primary (internal) screen to the secondary (TV) screen. By default, the secondary screen is off to the right of the primary screen.
If you would prefer the two screens show the same image, you want to switch to "mirroring" mode. You will have to pick a single resolution for both screens, which may look poor on one or the other.
Both the relative positions of the two screens in extended desktop mode and the switch to mirroring mode can be set in System Preferences > Displays > Arrangement.
