Shuts Down After One Minute?

I can turn on the Mac and load it all the way to the desktop, but after a minute or so, a pop-up of "Logout, Cancel, Restart, Shutdown" will occur. Even though nothing is pressing against the keyboard, it will turn itself off after a minute. I know this isn't a hardware problem because I am not experiencing random shutdown in XP, so it's solely within the Mac OS. Suggestions? Thanks!

Kevin,
This usually happens when your headphones/earbuds aren't plugged all the way in. Double check the connection of the headphones and make sure the jack is free of debris.

HP 15-f009wm, shuts down after one minute at idle. If you are doing something on it, like moving the mouse, it will stay on. I tried to go in, and change the power plans, and the options pertaining to this, but no help at all. I even tried to take the password off, so my wife wouldn't have a hard time trying to put it in, everytime it shuts down.  I seen the option, marked it, and it still needs the password to open it.

  • Help! My System shuts down after one minute of starting the PC

    Help
I have just finished assembling my PC using the MSI PM8M3 – V motherboard with a P4 (LGA775 – 630) 3.0 GHz processor and 500w power supply. After assembling all the parts, when I start the computer within 30 or 40 seconds the computer automatically switches off. Is there any way to know what's wrong and solve it?
    Thanks

    Hi
Sorry about that since i am new to this forum and i am not sure how to create a sig line. Anyway below are the details of my power supply
    OMNI PS ATX 500w
    +3.3v - 30A
    +5v - 50A
    +12v - 25A
    -5v - 0.3A
    -12v - 0.8A
    +5VSB - 2.0A
I tried starting the computer without my hard disk, and my CD RW and using only:
    CPU
    CPU fan
    Motherboard
    2 system fans
    DDR RAM (512MB)
And it stll did not work.
When i start the PC, the system loads properly so i am able to access the BIOS but then then the system only stays on for like 30 or 40 seconds and it just goes off without making any sounds or showing and warning signals.
I tried using a diffrent 500w power supply but it still did not work!
If you need any info, please do ask and also, i'm not exactly sure on whats a D-bracket.
    Thanks

  • Mac shuts down after 5 minutes  Help!!!!

My computer: imac G3, DV Special Edition, 500Mhz, 384 mb ram, 80 gig hard drive
This is an odd one...like many others before me the computer just died one day. it would not start up, no sounds, just dead. A few minutes later I tried to turn it on and it came on, but 5 minutes later, it died.
This is the strange part. I took the plug from the socket and waited a few minutes, then pluged the computer back up. It came on. But only for a few mintes and again shut off.
This time I left the plug in the socket, waited a few minutes and tried again. Nothing.
I then took the plug out waited about 30 minutes and it came back on for about 5 minutes and shut down. It only seems to come on if I let the computer sit idle with the plug out.
I have noticed that the computer does not keep time properly.
    What I have done.
    1. I have pressed the Cuda Button, and yes it did start up, but only for about 5 minutes.
    2. I have tried to reinstall the system hardware, but the computer dies before completion.
Should I replace the battery? What else can be done?
    Help!

I have the same problem. I don't have good news, though. I have replaced the battery, pressed the reset button, even replaced the power supply board (not the video board -- which is the only thing I have decided I'm not willing to do). My computer usually shuts down after 5 minutes, but will sometimes stay working fine for a couple of hours. I managed to update the firmware and OS to the very latest, but still it dies. Mine will also occasionally flicker and freeze, which can be restarted by holding down the power button.
I would replace the video board, except the people trying that don't have quite the same problem (theirs don't start up at all), and there is no source I've found that would have new boards, so you would get a bad board, or the same problem eventually. Some people point to a transformer on the video board, but again the symtoms are not quite the same (they smell burt electronics or hear a hissing/crackling sound before it dies.
I have just packed mine away and I'm working on a new G5, but I sure hope the old iMac can be fixed so my kids can use it. I just didn't want you to have to go down the same road just to find nothing helped. Good luck, and if you have any new ideas, I would be glad to hear them.

  • Macbook Air 11" shuts down after few minutes running

My Macbook Air 11" from mid 2012 shuts down after few minutes running, it is a laptop with very light use. The first time this happen was trying to upgrade to OS X Mavericks, after this I read it was maybe an overheating and definitely the case was hot, after this I placed the computer right in front the AC to finish the upgrade, finally I successfully upgrade the OS but the problem continue. I bring my Mac to service and now they said it is a Video Card problem, it doesn't make to much sense for me. Can somebody let me know if this could be a Video Card problem?

At what point is the shutdown occuring? As soon as you launch the install app?
If so, I would trash the install app file, and re-download it.
First, you might try running a Repair Permissions & a Verify Disk from the Recovery Partition. It is always a good idea to do this before any major software update/upgrade.

Apple TV radio shuts down after 10 minutes.  Can not find out why.  Could version 7.0 be the problem?

  • Why is my iphone coming on only connected to a PC and then shutting down after 1 minute???????

Seriously need help. My phone is going crazy right after ios is installed. It turns on only with a PC and then shuts down after 1 minute?  Never thought Id have problems with Apple.

I have had the same problem with my daughter's IPOD nano. Spoke with several technicians to try to fix the problem to be told it was a battery problem and to send it in it was covered under warranty. Was told that it was a problem with many of the nanos. I sent it in to have it returned with 1 week stating that it had "liquid spill or submersion damage indicated by the pink/red color of liquid submersion indicator located inside headphone jack." It has not had liquid or submersion damage and I can't prove otherwise. It works only if it is attached to computer. Will not turn on unless attached to computer. Maybe I am wrong but it it has damaged by water would it still work plugged into computer. Now I am out $200.00. This frustrates my because my ipod shuffle quit working 2 months after I got it. Thats why I bought the nano thinking it was better quality.

to make sure it's hardware, can you perform clean windows installation by pressing one key recover button first?

    Hello to all Macs
I've got a similar problem with my Mac. Some days now I am experiencing this:
I work on a fully charged battery and suddenly the computer "sleeps". Only one led light on the battery cover flashes. The computer "awakes" only if I connect the power adapter. Then the battery indicator on the right upper corner of the screen shows that the battery has to be charged, and it charges fully in a mater of minutes. This hasn't happen before and I am thinking that the battery may be drained and needs replacement. Any suggestions? I've already done the SMC reset as suggested in the previous message by Lyssa.

  • My macbook shuts down after 5 minutes

My macbook shuts down after 5 - 10 minutes, and I have to restart it each time. Can anyone help me with this? I've tried resetting the PRAM, re-instatlling the OS, switching HDD's. I asked a friend of mine what it could be and he said it may possibly be the power switch button. Any answers out there?

Have you tried resetting the System Management Controller? That is a good first step for power related issues such as this.
If that doesn't do it, you are looking at a hardware repair.
    Best of luck.

  • MacBook OSX 10.5.5 shuts down after 30 minutes of inactivity

If I leave my MacBook unattended, it shuts down after exactly 30 minutes. It asks me if I'm sure I want to Logout. This also happens when I've got iTunes running and listening to music but away from my computer for the 30 minutes. I've tried changing the Sleep options in Energy Saver (System Preferences) but to no avail. Not sure if this was an issue before I downloaded 10.5.5 onto this computer because I've only just begun listening to iTunes through this computer and new speakers and thus been leaving the computer unattended for this length of time. The MacBook is almost 1 year old. I've got it plugged in to power.
I'd appreciate any suggestions on how to prevent this.

Figured it out myself. MacBook wasn't actually shutting down, but rather logging out. Went to System Prefs,; Security; and unchecked logout after _ minutes of inactivity.

  • MBP shuts down after 30 minutes of inactivity

Hello - I've posed this question before and thought it was solved but it has come back.  My MBP (circa 2008) with OS 10.6.8 continues to attempt a shut down after about 30 minutes of inactivity.  If there is an open app it prevents the shut down but it sure is annoying.
Does anyone have ideas on how to prevent this?  (Please note I am talking about a complete shut down - not going to sleep.)
    Thanks!

    Thanks Carolyn,
I worked my way through the options and then eventually tried the reset.  Bummer, no luck.  My MBP still tries to shut off after a half hour passes.  It's odd that the timing is so consistent, yet there are no settings I can find that would cause this shut down.

  • MacBook is starting to shut down after 5 minutes.

My MacBook has just started to shut down after 5-10 minutes. The computer still holds a charge, and the battery Percentage says that it's full, so I dont know what's going on.

If it's under AppleCare take it in immediately.
It is possible that a fan might not be working, and causing it to overheat & shutdown as a safety measure.
The other reason could be RAM.
    But that's just my guess.
