How can the driver send a signal to the user level application.

proc_signal() looks promising to me, only if I understand it right. Which I am not sure. Here is what:
If an application makes an ioctl(), that would be the current process - right?
than, proc_ref() should return a unique handle to THIS process. Now, this handle can be used in proc_signal() to send a signal to the application.
If there are more than one process, the driver will have to come up with a policy to send signals to one or more of these processes.

If you are thinking about some kind of a IPC between
user/kernel land. How about the user app send down a
ioctl that the driver holds until an event occurs then
completes it. Of course you would need a way to
cancel the ioctl, in case the app blew out, but that
can be done.

Unlinking User folder from second drive

Several years ago, I ran out of space on my 160GB drive and added a second. I found a help thread that told me how to link the Users directory from my system folder so that all user information was on the second drive, but "appeared" to be on the first. A side effect was that the second drive could not be unmounted.
I've reached the stage where both of those drives are now full, and I'm replacing them with one larger drive, and then reusing the second drive as a Final Cut Pro download drive. I've moved the user files from both drives to the new larger one, but I know I need to "undo" what I did years ago, as the user folders are not functioning correctly (they're still pointing to the second drive). I thought I had saved the command, but can't find it. Any thoughts?

A few questions:
is the '[' in front of 'dr' in your third line a typo?
is the semicolon in from of 'users' on the second line a typo? And isn't it 'Users' ?
I see that it is the Users directory you dittoed.
Let me look at what you did.
It is a symbolic link - your last line is "ln -s" which creates a symbolic /Users directory on your main HD but is really the directory on the Gobo.
I believe that you can undo what you did by reversing things, but I am not sure.
Some commands may no longer exist. For example I don't see the 'ditto -rsrcFork' listed, but it looks as if you created a duplicate of your existing /Users, transferred properties to the new /Users and then deleted your original /Users and then recreated a new /Users as a symbolic link to the new on on the other drive.
While I am thinking, you might post this again in the Apple Unix forum where there are many experts who probably know infinitely more than I about this.

It appears that if you clone your main HD as a bootable clone and then copy the /Users from the other HD onto the clone, it should work. You would have to remove the symbolic link, and then create a new /Users directory and simply copy everything into this new one from the old one.
However, I strongly suggest backing up both HDs before doing anything, since you are tinkering under the hood and any mistake or error is liable to be fatal.

I like to listen to audio books. We all realise that the mobile devices experience some severe slow down when multiple applications are running, especially the memory intensive multimedia apps. Anyway, I think that it would be cool if there were some kind of "digital bookmark/restore point". Right now, if i want to save where i've left off, I either have to leave the application running or make a note with the track/time that i've stopped listening. If there were a prompt when you are exitting audio or video playing apps that asked if you would like to create a restore point that you can start back from or reference later, I think that would be great! Just a request from an audio bookworm nerd.

I think that the lack of ability to send immediate feedback or suggestions when they occur to users will ultimately make a huge difference between the BB product and its competition. It took me about an hour before I gave up, about two months ago, when I was experiencing a perceived software issue, of trying to find a way to either directly access a forum from my device or go online with the device to BB forums only to find that they weren't very compatible with mobile device users. Doesn't make much sense to me that you'd have a hard time accessing a companies web site that's in the mobile communication business from their own device. Today, I spent about another hour signing up to every BB feedback panel, survey this, forum that to try and make a suggestion. It's too hard! I am dedicated to using the BB service until there is something more effective... user feedback is what will make the difference.
It seems like there should be a way to install a direct feed app, preloaded on every device with a little 180/240 character box. Not too much to be had to manage, not too little to where people can't get their point across.
I'm sure it's been thought about before, but I'm left wondering why it's not there.?.

Regarding long mp3 bookmarks. (my experience with 9780).
I had the requirement that when playing long MP3s (audiobook/podcast) I don't loose my place within the MP3. I am able to update the list of MP3s without loosing my place in the currently playing one. I don't loose my place when connecting the BB to a PC with the USB cable and using USB synch to copy files to the SDCard.
All of these are accomplished by playing MP3s via File Manager/Play Folder feature.
If you use play lists or other methods directly through the BB media player, you will loose your place as soon as you switch off the BB, escape the player, or connect the USB cable.
If instead you use the file browser to go to the folder with the MP3s you wish to play (I have all my podcasts in one folder that I update manually) and select "Play Folder" from the context menu, the media player will open.
If you escape the media player that is opened as per above, the last point in the played MP3 is remembered. This even survives any synchronization I do to the folder via USB or a soft power reset (ALT CAPS DEL). It remembers the spot in multiple MP3s to boot.
This is a great handy feature. I'm glad it works with the 9780/OS6.

(1) Download the Windows Installer CleanUp utility installer file (msicuu2.exe) from the following Major Geeks page (use one of the links under the "DOWNLOAD LOCATIONS" thingy on the Major Geeks page):

(2) Doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file and follow the prompts to install the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. Move Users folders from external drive to a new internal drive

Hi All,
I have a white Intel iMac running Snow Leopard. I have kept the Users folder (4 users) on an external hard disk (too many photos and movies). The internal hard disk recently died, but since all user data was on the external, I wasn't too worried.
The iMac now has a new hard disk, and I've installed the system back, starting from the original System Install DVD so that all the iApps are also reinstalled.
What I want to do now is to move the user folders to the internal drive, and use the external for backups. It seems that I can't use Migration Assistant because it only works when moving data from another Mac or another startup drive. I've looked around the forums and on the web, and the only thing I found was a post on TUAW in which the writer talked about eventually having to do this but without giving much info about how to do it (http://www.tuaw.com/2009/05/14/tuaw-tip-moving-your-home-folder-to-another-disk- or-moving-it).
Does anyone have any experience moving the user folders from an external drive to an internal drive, (or even just having a Mac recognize user folders on an external drive from another machine)?

You may have to set up user accounts "from scratch." Then change the ownership and permissions on the old home folders so you can copy the contents of the sub-folders from the old home folders to the new ones.

Sychronisation AD - OID: Is it possible to read the user password from AD?

We are using the Oracle Internet Directory shipped with the Oracle 9i Database Rel. 2 (9.2.0.1).
I try to synchronise the user accounts from AD to OID using JAVA JNDI. I'm able to read all necessary user information except the user password (MD5 value). Even if I connect to the AD using SSL, it's not possible to read the attribute userPassword.
Is anybody out there who got this work or knows a way (may also be by the use of another programming language or tool) to get the user password out of AD? Is this possible? How does the Oracle Integration Agents accomplish this?

I am working with this as well, though from AS10g, not RDBMS. According to the OID Administrator Guide chapter 43, page 43-52:

However, if a deployment requires passwords to be available in Oracle Internet Directory, then the following two methods are recommended:
Build a custom plug-in for Microsoft Active Directory that captures a password change and synchronizes it with Oracle Internet Directory
Manage Active Directory passwords from the Oracle environment. This enables passwords to be available in both Oracle Internet Directory and Microsoft Active Directory because the Active Directory connector can synchronize passwords from Oracle Internet Directory to Microsoft Active Directory.

As10g can however look up the password in AD using the "Active Directory External Authentication Plug-In". This is documented in the same chapter.

How to get the Users Name from the SSL certificate?

Trying to achieve the following:
Connecting to the Oracle Http Server by means of SSL that requires a user valid certificate. Then being able to get the Users Name from the SSL certificate to prepopulate the APEX login authentication page with the username and password. Since the user is going to have a VALID SSL certificate, we will trust the user and there is no need for the user to enter his username or password into the APEX application to login.
Does SSO do this or something else?

How to transport the webdynpro applications from development production

Hi Experts,
We are implementing the first time NWDI for development.
As per my knowledge . There will only NWDI available for the whole landscape to manage and track the information.
NWDI will only one for the whole landscape?
How do we need to transport the ;build application from the dev sytem to production through NWDI.?
How the transport life cycle will be managed with NWDI and with out using NWDI?
As of my knowledge . we need to specify the production or testing mechine information in the NWDI to transport the build file from deve to -> testing to -> production.
Because my clients not allowing to specify the the production system information in nwdi to transport from dev to prodution using nwdi?
what is the other solution available?
By giving the production information in NWDI will give any problems futher?(like security).

NWDI is Simply used to manage life cycle.
A developer will develope application. that time he needs to create an activity.
1. when activity is checked in & activated -> code is sent to DTR in development space, and CBS builds that code and its .sda or .ear file is deplopyed on development server.
2. same when you release it -> code is sent to DTR in Consolidation space and CBS builds and deploy it on consolidation server.
3. after that you can assemble you whole development in single file i.e. .sca file, and its get deployed on test server.
simple..
and if your client dont want to specify production system in NWDI., then when you assemble an .SCA file of your development, just copy it from CMS folder of your NWDI installed drive. and send it to your client..
he will externally deploy it on production

Migrate the users, groups from essbase 7.1.6 to shared services

Our current production is essbase version 7.1.6 and we are planning to migrate to EPM 11.1.2 . We would like to move the security administration from Essbase to Shared Services (want to use Native Directory).
can somebody please suggest
1) An utility that Oracle provides with EPM 11.1.2 that helps to migrate the users and groups from 7.1.6 to shared services?
2) After bringing the users groups from 7.1.6 to 11.1.2, do we need to externalize these users and groups or no need?

if you have LDAP/MSAD try to configure it first .That will get your users
Now using maxl
spool on to GROUP.txt
display gruoup all;
spool on to USER.txt
display user in group all;
for test purpose create a test group and a test user from the shared services.
Now using GROUP.txt
make up maxl statements to create groups(use any advanced text editor or MS excel to get your work done fast)
create group 'groupname';
now login into that shared services
go to FOundation Application group->click sharedservices->drop down native directory ->Right click on Groups and select export for edit.THat will save you Groups.csv file.
Now
1.Open that Groups.csv file
2.Using USER,txt ,paste the users in that file under their respective group.(Look for test group created that should give you an idea!!!)
3.Paste user correctly and save it to the same file Groups.csv
4.go to FOundation Application group->click sharedservices->drop down native directory ->Right click on Groups and select IMPORT for edit.
5.that will get your users into the groups.

Capturing the User Id from the Password change screen after Login

Hi,
I need to capture the User Id from the Password Change screen and Pass it to the Custom Portal application that is triggered on the change password screen.That User Id will be passed on to the Portal application to retrieve the details of the User.
I have triggered the Custom Portal application from the OnClick of CHANGE button.
It can be probably done by appending the User Id captured from the Change Password screen to the Url of the Portal application.
But am not clear how to capture the User ID.

Uninstall the Messages application from Mountain Lion?

I was wanting to know if there was a way to uninstall the Messages application from Mountain Lion, I tried to delete it/move to trash and it gave me a message saying that the application is required by OS X. I want to uninstall the application due to privacy issues encountered with two Iphones on one apple id account.
We would just start a new account for one of the phones but as i understand the music that is currently on the phone would not be able to be added to the new account from the original account. By uninstalling messages it would alleviate some issues.

To be sure.
On the iOS device go to Settings > Messages > Send and Receive and remove the Apple ID.
Set the iPhone or iPad into Airplane Mode.
Wait a few minutes.
Turn the device "On" again.
Send and Receive should now list just the iPhone Number.
Now Restart Messages on the Mac.
There will be an alert saying the iphone is using just the iPhone number.
Deny this in the click option buttons.
Then go to the Sign out Button.
Then go to the Finder > Go Menu > Go to Folder and type in ~/Library/Preferences in to the dialogue box that appears.
Find and drag to the Trash com.apple.imessage.bag.plist and com.apple.imservice.iMessage.plist (this one holds the Apple ID and Aliases (which include the iPhone numbers)
Restart Messages.
It will start and be available for AIM, Jabber, Yahoo and the Bonjour Account use but will not have an active iMessage account.

Exporting the user IDs from R/3 to a flat file

I need to generate a flat file with all the user IDs from an ABAP system. How can I do that? is there something available out-of-the-box or I need to develop something?
Also, is there a quick way to bering all the user IDs from R/3 into the Portal?

Goto SE16 - click on the Table contents button in the screen and execute the table.it will list out the user details - > Edit > Download-> Spreadsheet ->give the name and location for the file.

If you had stored your catalog files on an external drive, then all you have to do is double-click on them to open them and use them.
Or you could move them to the internal drive and double-click on them once the move is completed.
To create a single catalog file from multiple ones, you could use File->Import from Another Catalog

It is strange. The link is on a different http site eg. http://www.othersite.com. The link is pointing https://www,mysite.com/index.html. I put the alert(document.referer) on the index.html. Using FireFox will show the alert http://www.othersite.com every time. However, on IE, the first time is empty. The second time I click on the link, it will show http://www.othersite.com. Very consistent.
