Signed app|File.exists fails

Mea culpa for cross posting, however I have not had an answer and problem is vexing and possibly instructive.
I have a signed app that access a local file when its methods are called in start(), with file.exists and it works fine, however when its methods are called outside of start() specifically file.exists or FileOutputStream is called it fails with a read error. If it is signed it should allow local access throughout the entire lifecycle of the applet? What am I doing/thinking wrong here? tia.

Empirically I found a partial answer. If I try to access the local file in any method other than start() it fails with Caused by: java.security.AccessControlException: access denied (java.io.FilePermission...
Should I have expected that? How can I get around it? I have this object as a member of another object that my applet creates and calls. Any ideas? tia.

Description:
The server is failing to download some updates.
This error is happening everyday. Please advise for a fix.
If this is happening on an UPSTREAM server it is because you have approved updates that are no longer available from Microsoft. Almost always this involves approvals of *EXPIRED* updates (which have been pulled from the catalog and cannot be downloaded).
If this is happening on a DOWNSTREAM server it's because something/someone deleted the files from the upstream server. It can also happen if the entire upstream ~\WSUSContent folder has gone amuk.
For an upstream server, find the expired updates, remove the approvals, cancel the downloads, and then decline the updates.
For a downstream server, figure out what the affected updates are and fix the upstream server.

SharePoint 2013 Provider-Hosted App Installs, throws File Exists error.
I have a SP2013 Provider-hosted app with DevExpress controls that was working fine until just recently. I am getting the following error when I try to F5 DEBUG:
"Error occurred in deployment step 'Install app for SharePoint': The file exists."
The app actually installs and executes but the debugger detaches very quickly plus it is prompting with the nagging aforementioned message. There are no AppUninstall / AppInstall / AppUpgraded events being handled.
Thanks in advance.I tried retraction, cleaning, reinstalling - nothing worked. I tried a new app in the site collection and a new app in a new site collection - still no luck. In the end the problem was more simple, but the "File exists" error was not helpful in determining
the root cause. Perhaps others will hit this thread and find the solution helpful. Visual Studio will typically switch automatically to "Run as Administrator" mode whenever debugging a SP App for 2013. In my case, it wasn't. I had one or two existing Apps
that never prompted me but ran fine and in this case, new apps weren't automatically running as the Administrator. After changing this behavior the app (and new apps) work as expected. -
Error: 'The File exists 0x80070050' when updating a MVC5 app to Microsoft Azure Tools 2.5
I've a MVC5 app that uses Microsoft Azure Tools v2.4. I want to update the Azure Tools to 2.5. I'm using Visual Studio Community 2013.
When I go to the properties of the Azure project, select the Application tab and then click upgrade I get the error message:

Following a message saying that my Startup disc was full and advising me to delete some files, I deleted my trash but then apps started to fail. When I tried to log on again, all I got was a blank screen and a cursor, so I am unable to delete any more files. I am a Mac Book Pro virgin, help
How much free space do you actually have? Go to the Apple menu and select About This Mac... More Info... and click on the Storage tab. You should see something like this...
This will show you how much free space you have and what's taking up all the space on your hard drive. You may need to backup and trash some seldom used files, applications, etc. You have to drag them into the Trash and empty the trash to regain the space. A general rule of thumb is that you should have about 15% of your hard drive storage free.

How to automate digital signing PDF Files in batch
I am trying to find a way to automate as much as possible the placing of a digital signature on a set of PDF documents. We have Adobe Acrobat Pro 8.1 and the machine has MS Office 2003 with Vista Business. Here's a scenario: A set of documents exist in a TO-BE-SIGNED folder, each unsigned. The user uses MS Access 2003 form with a button with VBA code to open and show the first document in the folder. The AcroExch.App, AcroExch.AVDoc, and AcroApp.Show APIs are used to do this. I found code on the internet to do that. Rather than having my client now have to go through all the manual steps to place a digital signature on the document, I want to streamline it to a single click if possible. Right now he has to click Advanced > Sign and Certify > Place Signature > then click and drag > then enter his password > then click sign > then save and close the doc. Can all this be automated? An added bonus would be automatically saving or moving the signed doc to a different folder when it is signed.
I have created a stamp that allows me to add a stamp with just two clicks. Can such be done to add a digital signature? Is it possible to add a button to the toolbar to do this? Can it be done in Access VBA using some Acrobat API calls? Another feature I want to include is moving quickly from one document to the next in the TO-BE-SIGNED folder. Like the arrow buttons take you from page to page, can a button be added to the Acrobat toolbar to take you from doc to doc in a particular folder? Or can that be done using VBA and some Acrobat API calls? To maintain the security of the password protection and yet cut down on clicks and keystrokes, I would like to input the password just once at the beginning of the session and have it remembered or applied to all the docs that get signed as long as that session is open.
I've found some software that purports to do much of the above, but they are all very expensive and assume a big business with big bucks. If anyone knows of inexpensive software that will REALLY do this, I'm open to that as well, though I'd like to control the process myself if possible. I consider myself a beginner with Acrobat and using API calls and would appreciate any help anyone can give. Is the above clear and even possible?

Thanks much!Our workflow is such that on infrequent occasions, we have a digitally signed PDF file and the doctor wants to append a scanned note to it. In the past, we could do this, but not now. In the past, when we added the scanned doc, we received a message saying that the doc is already signed and asking if we want to overrwrite the doc. If we respond Yes, then Acrobat would allow it and the signature would indicate that the original part of the document was not modified, but that something had been changed--namely, a doc had been appended. The signature indicated that something had changed since it was added, but it still allowed the append. The signature would have an exclamation point in a yellow triangle indicating the doc had been updated since signed. For our purposes, that was okay because we know what the change is based on the original doc and we know what is appended. Now, however, we cannot append at all. The only thing that is different that I know of is that the doc was signed with software that is not Adobe Acrobat, even though the other software uses an Adobe Acrobat self-created digital signature.

}The following is used to get documents from our main NAS system and works perfectly on the development system. However on the live system this fails to find the file.
When I run the path (used in f.getPath()) in windows (run) it opens the file perfectly on the live server.
The Setup
On the development system the files are pulled from the NAS system inhouse (Mounted drive) however on the web server this is connected using a VPN mounted to the same path as the development server. I think this might be related to server lag as this live system has to talk over the Internet VPN to get the file.
does anyone have any ideas how to solve this issue? does "java.io.File" have a tool to wait or should I be using some other method of getting the files content.

PS I can't copy the file to the public domain and link to it as there is a lot of security requirments. No file can exist on the public path, even for a second.To elaborate a little more.
The main issue is that a mounted drive links to a network folder. This drive was not available to Tomcat. This means that when the Servlet tries to access the file it can not be found.
Using the Network path I was able to locate the file however Tomcat did not have permission to read this file.
The next step was to create a user under [Active Directory|http://www.visualwin.com/New-User-AD/] called tomcat. I assigned read permissions to the folder (That Tomcat tried to read).
The next step was to get Tomcat to run as this user. This will allow all my Servlets to access the give folder. It also means that Tomcat cannot read other files on the network as they do not have permission as the OS level. This means that any security holes in the code can not be expoilted (Without flaging my IDS).
I am running Tomcat in a windows envroment so changing the user it's running as is very easy.
# open the Tomcat config app
# Click "Logon" tab
# Check "This Account"
# Under the new user account and password setup using Active Directory
# Click "Apply" then "Ok"
# Restart tomcat
After this Tomcat should be running as your new user and have access to the given folder and files -
AMS5 Std vhost vod signed apps
Hello, I face a rather odd issue with the vhost on AMS Std. Whenever I try to change the signed vod app’s Application.xml <Streams> tag to point to alternative media location, I get this message:
Tue 07:24:51 PM: Invalid configuration file : {path}\vod\Application.xml
Inside the <Streams> tag I change the path to a physical one, not the one with the pound sign. Either way, I get the same message back. Moreover, when trying to modify ams.ini with the custom path, I get an error message as well. The <Streams> tag in Vhost.xml is blank. It turns out that the signed app can only digest _defaultVHost_ paths. How could this be resolved?

I guess it didn’t originally work (I never changed anything) is that AMS needs some time to update some state as per vhosts. So the setup is as follows: vhost.xml - . Along with that, I’m facing another issue with a duplicate vod signed app – e.g. myvod. Application.xml inside that dir was updated accordingly but the streams fails to play, is there a reason for that?

Signed JNLP file doesn't match JNLP file on webserver?
Hi,
using Java 1.6.0(_13) Webstart says, that the JNLP file is not signed.
So I added my JNLP file as JNLP-INF/APPLICATION.JNLP into the client jar.
I signed my jar with my cert from thawte and copied the JNLP file to the unix webserver.
Now Webstart says that the JNLP file from the webserver doesn't match with the signed one.
Does anyone have some practical experience with signing JNLP files and knows the common pitfalls.
What are the issues that could let this fail, CR/LF or a bug ?

And I have a test app that uses three signed jars. I have created three extension elements right under the <jar href="myjar1.jar"/> to refer to the three jnlp for the separate signed jars.
The problem is I am getting the wrong error. It is saying my syntax is wrong with on my myjar1.jnlp file with the included extension elements. If I remove the extension elements, it proceeds to load and eventually dies when it calls for classes in one of those jars. I am "sure" the syntax of the extension element is right or at least as indicated in the link above. Even if I remove all but one of the extension elements, assuming some type of dtd nesting, it still fails the same way as when all three (n) are in. Can someone please help on this? I have no more resources or clues. tia. -

This is embarrassing, I used that very post as my guide when deploying my certificate templates, but failed to change the bit length to 2048. Thank you for being my second set of eyes.
I changed my certificate key bit length to 2048, deleted the old cert from all certificate stores, acquired the a new signing cert, verified the key length was 2048, exported the new cert to pfx and cer files, imported into my Trusted publishers
and Trusted Root Authorities stores, reconfigured SCUP to use the new pfx file, rebooted the server and attempted to re-publish the updates with the following results:

Is there a chance this content was already created and signed with the old cert, so installing the new cert has no effect? In ConfigMgr software updates I see 4 Flash updates, all marked Metadata Only (because they were originally published as "Automatic."
No Flash updates in the ConfigMgr console are marked as downloaded. I can't find any documentation on how the process of using SCUP for downloading content for an update marked Metadata Only actually works.

How to check if a specific file exist and which exit code to use ?
Hi, First I'm not a scripting guy and I know almost nothing about VB scripting.
I have a deployment of 6 tasks and I want to make sure that step # 2 will not be process if it failed in step #1, and so on for the 6 task.
To do this, i have to run a vb script before installation or uninstalltion on each steps
I'm trying to use a script (not from me) that i have modified for pre-uninstallation of software and also post-installation of the software.
Pre-uninstallation: The script will look if the specified "exe" exist on the server and if so, than it will run the msiuninstall "application_name".
If the uninstallation is successful, the post-installation script will check if the "exe" file exist again on the server, and it shouldn't find it (because it was deleted from the uninstallation), than it will return an exit code of successful
to run the next process.
Here an example:
Step 1: Uninstall "Software#1" with msiuninstall Software#1.exe command
Step 2: Uninstall "Software#2" with msiuninstall Software#2.exe command
Step 3: Install "Software #3"with an .exe extension
Step 4: Re install "Software #2" with an .msi extension
Step 5: Re install "Software #1" with a .msi extension.
Step 6: Send email to confirm the deployment is successful
So i need to validate that step #2 will not process step #3 if it failled on # 2. It need to validate if the file exist before and after.
At the end, Step 6 should send an email to confirm that the 6 steps of the deployment was completed without errors.
Any idea how to do it ?
