Silent installation in Java Plug-in
Hi people, i am trying to do a silent installation of the java plugin, i have manage to do it but something goes wrong because when i want to look at any applet in my browser it doesn't work. With the appletviewer i can see my applets.
Some one knows what have i to do to make my applets work in the browser?
i have created the silent installation but in the browser it doesn't go with applets.
Please help.
Thanks.
Guys,
I am a newbie with this plug-in stuff, but I have one for you...
I had the plug-in 1.3.0_02 working fine with the applet However, now I upgraded to 1.3.1_02 and for the life of me won't understand why it won't just use the new plug-in - but insists on downloading the old plug-in. ??? why??
Aren't the geniouses supposed make it backwards compatible or am I supposed to hang on to all the plug-ins.

Java Plug-in problems following installation of Oracle 9i
I have been experiencing repeatable problems with the Sun Java Plug-in following installation of Oracle 9i on our servers. Our installation of the Sun JDK 1.3.1_04 or higher seems to conflict with the Oracle installation. Following the install, navigating to any web page that includes an applet reference results in a plug-in error stating that it cannot locate the registry key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\JavaSoft\Java Plug-in\1.3.1_01. The key does exist however for the installed version of the plug-in. ie [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\JavaSoft\Java Plug-in\1.3.1_07]. My only workaround to fix this is to add a new registry key 1.3.1_01 that contains the contents of the registry key for the installed plug-in (for example 1.3.1_07).
The Oracle installation only inlcludes the JRE, which AFAIK isn't referenced outside the ORACLE_HOME directory. The internal JVM couldn't be causing the conflict either. Might be an installer bug of some sort, but not one I have heard of.

JAI extension automatic installation fail with Java Plug-in 1.4.1_01
Hi everyone,
i have a html page with an applet that use the JAI (Java Advanced imaging) extension. I used to run it with java plug-in 1.3.1_03.
When the JAI extension was not installed, it was automatically downloaded and installed. I use the sun "Signed Auto Installation for browsers" jar available on the JAI download page.
But with Java Plug-in 1.4.1_01, it seems to have a security problem. Is the "Signed Auto Installation for browsers" only java plug-in 1.3 compatible or is there a way to install it with 1.4.
If anyone has encountered the same problem with another extension, it could help me to know how to have it installed automatically with java Plug-in 1.4.
I tested on IE 4 and 6 on Windows NT4 & IE 6 on Windows 2000, and i have the same results.
Thanks
Philippe

did you install all required rpm's? You could check this with my open source project which is also using silent installation method. Furthermore also ASM setup is included. ;)

OCP 9i / 10g / 11g -
We have about 1,800 workstations running Windows 7 (both 32-bit and 64-bit) running various versions of the Java JRE from 6 update 32 through 7 update 51. Most are on 6 update 45. We would like to standardize on Java 7 update 51 (32-bit) and get everyone updated to that version for security reasons.
For the past two weeks, we have been having trouble with our installation pre-pilot. What we are seeing is that our procedure successfully closes any open Internet Explorer windows and Java-related processes, uninstalls all old versions of the Java JRE, and then claims to have successfully installed Java 7 update 51. The Java Control panel works. We can even take Internet Explorer to Verify Java Version or Java Tester - What Version of Java Are You Running? and confirm that the Java applets on those sites are loading (though the latter only works after adding the site to the exceptions site list); however, when testers try to access our Kronos Workforce Central 6.3.10 system, the Java applets used by that system do not load.
We have tried the following things, none of which worked:
Clear Internet Explorer browser cache and cookies.
Clear the local Java cache.
Reboot the computer.
Reset Internet Explorer settings, including personal settings.
The one thing which does work is going into the Java Control Panel, going to the Security tab, unchecking "Enable Java content in the browser", pressing Apply, pressing OK on the pop-up window, checking the "Enable Java content in the browser" box again, pressing OK, pressing OK on the pop-up window, and then restarting Internet Explorer. It is only after this point that all Java applets, including the ones used by Kronos Workforce Central 6.3.10, work.
What I need to know is how I can automate the procedure of reinitializing the "Enable Java content in the browser" checkbox after installation or am I doing something wrong or missing a step in the automated installation that is causing this to happen?
We are using Microsoft SCCM 2007 R3 to accomplish this upgrade, and everything is being run on the client machine using the SYSTEM account. First, the PowerShell script "javaclean.ps1" is run, with part of the command-line process changing the PowerShell script execution policy to Bypass. This script handles the closing of Java-dependent applications and Java processes and uninstalls old Java versions.
javaclean.ps1:

After this script is complete, SCCM calls a the VBS script "install.vbs" to perform the actual installation of Java JRE 7 update 51.

Help on this issue would be much appreciated! It turns out that this is actually a problem with Kronos Workforce Central. We had the "site.java.plugin.CLSID.familyVersion" setting in that application set to "clsid:CAFEEFAC-0016-0000-FFFF-ABCDEFFEDCBA", which is the Java CLSID for Java 6. After updating this value to "clsid:8AD9C840-044E-11D1-B3E9-00805F499D93" (the Java universal CLSID), this problem did not occur upon the automatic upgrade of Java.
We have both Java 6 and Java 7 in our environment, and did during our Kronos implementation, so I don't know why we were using the Java 6 CLSID in the first place.

SIlent Installation (1.5) just copies files
I tried the silent installation as described in Silent Installation. But even after rebooting the client, it still shows and uses the old version. "java -version", Java control panel all, Windows installed software, ... all show just the old version, but the files of the new version are properly installed.
I noticed that a Java application was running on the client. So I retried by deleting the new JRE files, rebooting the client (still no sign of installation of the new version). And tried to rinstall the new version via remote silent installation. This time it canceled installation saying that it is already installed, but the client does not have anything of the new version - even not in the registry. ?I saw that the installation was not done on the
client but on the server!!! When I think about it,
stating the client via setting the client network
path at INSTALLDIR= just copied the files on the
client, but the rest of the installation was done on
the server. I thougth this "silent installation" also
works for remote installations, like sayd in the same
doc:
It is intended for:
system administrators who want to deploy Java Plug-in
and the JRE on multiple PCs in the Intranet
environment without user interaction
LOL. I can see how someone could misunderstand. When a "system administrators" installs applications he uses specialized tools that allows him/her to remotely run those install program on those clients. It wouldn't do him much good if 1000 or so remotely run installs all had GUI interfaces. He just wants something that just runs without a GUI, installs and then quits. That is what "silent installation" does for a "system administrator". -
Silent Installation on remote client computer?
The SIlent Installation description writes:
It is intended for:
system administrators who want to deploy Java Plug-in and the JRE on multiple PCs in the Intranet environment without user interaction
That sounds exactly what I need. But when I do such a silent installation, there are no options for the remote computer (like 'destination client='). First I just set the network path for the INSTALLDIR and found that just the files were copied to the network computer but the installation was done locally. So, how can I tell the silent installation that I want to install on a remote computer?MDN,

Java Plug-In's SSV Helper 2, Start Detector - are not Verified
I have the following Internet Explorer Add-ons relating to Java...
I had an old version of Java, something like 1.5 or 1.15 ? - it was from 2006... then i installed the latest version of java from the official java website (where i had to say yes to installing add-ons / active-x controls even before the download begun)... my new version is Java version 6 update 10, (build 1.6.0_10-b33). i think i uninstalled the old version of java first.. it left some files in its installation directory so i manually deleted them after i had installed the new version though, it had its own folder with the version number as its name, a different folder for each version.
These are the java plug-ins i have...
Java(tm) Plug-In 2 SSV Helper (Not verified) Sun Microsystems, Inc. jp2ssv.dll
Java(tm) Plug-In SSV Helper Sun Microsystems, Inc. ssv.dll
JQSIEStartDetector Impl Class (Not verified) Sun Microsystems, Inc. jqs_plugin.dll
i guess the SSV Helper (the first one, not 2) was the old version of java.. and the other two are the new version.
My question, why are they not verified, is this normal, a danger/problem... considering the old java version add-on is verified.
Also what do these add-ons do?, are they needed.
thanks.
I have windows xp home.sp3??? - its fully auto updated... internet explorer 7.Exactly .. I have way too much Java stuff in my add-ins that is NOT verified and am having problems deleting that which I may not need
I wish we did not have to be a "developer" just to have the latest version of Java working on our systems. I realize more reading has to be done but for someone like me who has so many versions of Java and can not find out why this is so .. and how many I need in order to just prowse the web in the latest version of Java .. it is time consuming to have to go thru these Java add-ins and time consuming to have to want to remove older versions of Java.
Sorry for the nit picking but it is valid for those of us who don't want to know all of this stuff. -
Java Plug-in 1.5.0_06 Error JRE notinited
Uninstalled all JRE versions. and downloaded the previous offline install packets from:
http://java.sun.com/products/archive/
JRE 1.5.0
JRE 1.5.0_1
JRE 1.5.0_2
JRE 1.5.0_3
JRE 1.5.0_4
JRE 1.5.0_5
JRE 1.5.0_6
,Installed them one after the other due to I read somewhere they recommend you keep all your JRE versions. Keep getting that error JRE notinited error on the brower status bar when I run the verify installation proccess at
http://java.com/en
JRE 1.4.1_02 an older version works if I uninstall all the newer versions and leave this version.
None of the browser installed seem tow ork with the JRE 1.5 ect.
I have IE 6, Netscape 7.2,. Firefox 1.5 all will not load applets and get that verify install red x for failing to load.
Below is what I get in the Java Log.

Some People claim that Norton programs might interfere, I disabled them even went as far to uninstall them which takes a long time.. to uninstall and install them back.
I even went as far as a clean systems install of windows XP sp2 Home Edition and th en tried to update to Sun Java and still got the red X basically saying something wrong with install. But nothing every says its wrong when you run the offline installation. Just when you go back to the website to veriffy jjava is installed.
To be able to use my subsciption I pay for on Pogo.com to play games that require applets I had to enable the MSJava in Internet Explorer and disable the box of the Sun Java applet version whatever you have installed to have Runtime Environment.
If you don't have the MS Java on your Internet Explorer Advanced Options you can get it at this address:
http://www.microsoft.com/mscorp/java/
Go figure. I thought Sun Java would be more better which I had working before have no clue why it stopped working and those errors come up when trying to play games that require the use of the java applet.
Was hoping other java users who have figured out why it stopped can tell me what to look for to alter so I can change back to sun Java.
The Sun Java works great with other applications just not the applets. The same problem happened to me. When upgrading from JRE 1.5.0_5 to JRE 1.5.0_6, suddenly no applets would load, and all I could see was the little red X.
I tried to change proxysettings (I dont use a proxy, but it is told at http://www.java.com/en/download/help/redximage.xml that it is due to wrong proxy-settings). It didn't help.
I tried to turn off zonealarm. It didn't help.
I tried to clear the browsers cache. It didn't help.
I have been using both Firefox 1.5, and IE6. None would load the java-applets.
So I uninstalled all older JRE versions and installed JRE 1.4.1_02. It worked!
I then tried to upgrade to JRE 1.5.0. It didn't work.
Now I am back at JRE 1.4.1_02 without knowing why I had to downgrade through 6 versions that through the last year or so has been working fine on my machine.
I have no idea why it suddenly wouldnt work with the newer versions.
Any ideas?
Thank you. -
Hi,
am new to this thread, excuse if any issues in posting,

Sun Java Plug-in Required
The Sun Java Plug-in must be installed on your local machine in order to run this workbench. The Sun Java Plug-in can be downloaded from the following directory:
/dsworkbench/clientinstall
Please contact your system administrator to verify the location of the client installations.
Installing the Sun Java Plug-in, version 1.6.0_19
The Sun Java Plug-in is required to run the WebLogic version of this workbench. To install:
Download the file jre-6u19-windows-i586.exe and execute it.
On the license terms screen, select Custom setup and click Accept.
If you want to change the default installation directory, click Change and specify a different directory. Once the installation directory is set, click Next.
Click Next to accept the default browser registrations.
Disabling Auto-Update Capability
By default, the Java Control Panel is configured to automatically download and update to newer releases of the Java Plug-in as they become unavailable.
It is advisable to turn off this feature so that compatibility between the Java Plug-in and the workbench is maintained. To turn off automatic updates:
Open the Windows Control Panel, and click Java. The Java Control Panel displays.
Click the Update tab.
Under the Update Notification area, deselect Check for Updates Automatically.
"Java Update - Warning" dialog box displays. Click Never Check.
Click OK to save and then close the Java Control Panel.I have done the same and I restarted browser and my machine, and when I relogined to the application still the same message is appearing,
I don't know if I need to set the environment path, but I have done it. any pointers will be helpfulThis tends to be a 32 bits / 64 bits problem. The runtime must match the architecture of the browser you're using; so if it is a 64 bits browser, you MUST have a 64 bits runtime. If it is a 32 bits browser you MUST have a 32 bits runtime. You can install both and cover all cases.

Hello Everyone,
I am trying to install WL server through silent mode.
The silent.xml that i am using is as follows

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>

</input-fields>
</bea-installer>
The installation returns a failure code "null".
I am using the generic installer and have successfully installed through the GUI and console mode.
The OS is Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5.4(32bit on VWare machine).
I have also tried it on Windows 7.
I am at my wits end and any help would be appreciated.
thanks in advance

How to disable Next Generation Java Plug-in for GPO software deployments?
Is there a way to disable the Next Generation Java Plug-in using a script or batch file for GPO software deployments?
Our group needs to deploy JRE 6 Update 20 to a large number of Oracle Financials users. As part of this deployment, we need to disable the Next Generation Java Plug-in as part of the installation for each desktop. Our plan is to extract the MSI installer package from Sun and create a GPO for software deployment.
It seems you cannot disable the Next Generation Java Plug-in using a simple registry hack or customized MST transform file. Is there another method for disabling Next Generation Java Plug-in?btenney,
Thanks very much for your suggestion. Can you explain what the parameters are on the ssvagent.exe that you noted -high -jpisetup -old? I can't seem to find any information on the parameters. Also, will this set the configuration just for the user logged on (current user) OR for all users existing and future?
We are having trouble getting next-gen java shut off for all possible users that may logon to a machine in future .. thus looking at putting in bootup login script, but hoping there is a better way to have it take affect at the machine level. Or to at least automate at the user level (existing and future windows users/profiles) -
