Simplest possible audio app

I'm just starting out (NetBeans 6.1) and I want to open a window with a single button which will play an audio file from the harddrive. I just don't know where to begin with this simple task. Can someone point me towards tutorials related to audio playback?

Music from my Dropbox.

  • Streaming audio apps don't work after 10.1

Since updating my Z10 and my wife's Z10 to 10.1 on Telus none of the streaming audio apps work over LTE or HSPA+. Songza, 8tracks, slacker and nobex all stop playing music after a couple of minutes unless I tell them to play again. Help please.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

is your Z10 SIM-locked? If no, can you try with a SIM card not from Telus?
Maybe you can also give Telus a call and ask them about the streaming. Do they allow it?

  • It's now over 6 weeks since I made the mistake of updating my iPad and I am furious and frustrated at the lack of a solution to the problem with ios 5 audio app missing lyrics

It’s now over 6 weeks since I made the mistake of updating my iPad and I am furious and frustrated at the lack of a solution to the problem with ios 5.
I recently updated to ios 5.1 but nothing has been done to rectify the audio app problems ie lyrics no longer shown,
I am extremely disappointed and angrywith those responsible for the iOS 5 update, in regard to the way it hasaffected the music app in my iPad.
I also own an iPhone 4, am an avid Apple fan, and up until now have beenextremely pleased with the devices, and have sung their praises to friends andassociates.
I am a professional musician, and purchased an iPad primarily to use with theperformance of my music.
The changes made to the music app affected my performances over the weekendextremely adversely – limiting my repertoire and causing confusion and delays.
I have spent many hours talking withApple helpline assistants (who, incidentally have been very good and have triedto help), and I have also spent a lot of time on this letter.
I greatly regret updating to iOS 5.
There are two major problems with the music app.
    1. Lyrics no longer displayed
    2. Layout, and appearance and consequently performance have seriouslyregressed.
I have a repertoire of around 500 song backing tracks, organised into about 20playlists, half of which featured lyrics / chords that I have spent monthsrecently entering into iTunes so that they could be used on my iPad.
These were working fine up until the update - now they are gone.
Previously, the app featured large icons for playlist, artists, songs etc. atbottom of page: Now there are small, grey, indistinct barely legible buttons.
Previously, when playlist icon was selected - all the playlists were listedclearly in order on the left hand side in black on white (as in iTunes).
Now they are scattered across the whole page in large squares (displayingnothing if there is no album art).
The identifying wording below eachsquare is now small, grey, indistinct & barely legible.
Previously, when a playlist was selected - the songs were displayed in adescending list in black & white: now they appear as small, grey indistinct & barely legible.
Previously, when a song was selected - it appeared filling the page, and withaudio controls clearly positioned at top of screen. One tap would bring uplyrics.
Now audio controls appear at top once again small, grey, indistinct &barely legible.
A small square representsalbum art which if tapped fills page. A further tap fails to bring up lyrics.

Lyrics aren't supported in the Music app on iOS 5 on the iPad. These are user-to-user forums, they are not monitored by Apple (there are too many forums/threads/messages for that to happen). If you want to leave feedback for Apple then you can do so here : http://www.apple.com/feedback/ipad.html

  • Streaming audio apps drop unexpectedly

I use several streaming audio apps (Pandora, iHeartRadio, WunderRadio) on my iPhone, but they seem to drop/crash unexpectedly, often in the middle of a song or program. Usually the crash happens after several minutes, but I seem to have to relaunch an app at least once every 30 minutes. Is there a time limit on the amount of time the iPhone can stream audio, or is this just an app crashing. I have looked, but have been unable to find any settings for streaming time limits.

There are no streaming time limits imposed by the iPhone.
Pandora drops out on me occasionally but never crashes. I assume the drops are due to an imperfect cellular connection and/or Pandora servers.
Regarding crashes, this shouldn't happen. Try resetting your iPhone by pressing the home and sleep buttons until you see the Apple logo, ignoring the slider. Takes about 5-15 secs of button holding and you won't lose any data or settings.

  • Question 4 Audio Pros using MBP booted in Win XP- do Win audio apps work?

Are any of you audio pros successfully using windows audio apps on a MBP booted into Win XP?
I understand that most pros will use native Mac audio applications under Mac OS X - there are obviously plenty to handle almost any job. However... the fact is, there are some very cool audio applications available for use under Windows exclusively.
While I do currently own a PC, I have owned dozens of macs in the past (ranging from the 33MHz Quadra 950, through the PowerBook G4 1GHz & PowerMac Dual G4 1.25GHz - all while working as a professional audio engineer). With that said, my experience with virtually booting into Windows with a Mac was horrible at best - specificially when attempting to use Windows for specialized audio work. But I haven't worked on a Mac since the fall of 2004. In the past 3 years, a lot has changed with the Mac line.
If you're an audio pro who has had success using audio applications made for windows on a MacBook Pro 2.2 or 2.4GHz, would you please let us know which Windows audio application(s) you have used with success?
(Please, if you do not have direct experience using audio applications for Windows on your MacBook Pro, please refrain from posting. I'm looking for comments from professionals with first hand experience, not opinions on what might or might not work. My most sincere thanks in advance.)

It appears that you CAN use audio programs under Parallels without issue... I'm SOLD on this MBP. Thanks to oxxle from Germany for the assistance answering this question.

  • Performance loss with audio apps in Leopard

I upgraded one of my machines to Leopard when it came out. It had the same apps installed as my production machine, so I thought this would be a good way to really test Leopard with real applications that I use everyday. So far my audio apps have taken the biggest blow. Apps like Logic 8 and Ableton Live (6 and 7) have been given a dramatic performance cut as well as many plugins. In some cases the perfromance decrease is severe. Sets in Live that would show 40% CPU under Tiger now stutter as the CPU meter jumps between 60% - 100%! Some live and Logic sets see a smaller increase in CPU, 20% , but the fans go wild and and my track count is stunted.
At first I thought I was alone and started to look into ways of optimising Leopard but recently I've visited a number of other studios running Leopard with similar performanc cuts. I've also visited several audio forums with the same results.
My question is this: Is this something we are likely to see fixed? or is this a symptom of Leopard's bells and whistles? I'm very happy with 10.4.11 and I don't need to change yet... but I will be buying a new production machine in a few months and reverting back to 2005 performance in my apps is not something i wish to do in 2008.

Is there no one else concerned about this? Or is this something only confined to Audio Apps and not other CPU intensive apps?

  • Simplest possible automator

I've written an automator with exactly two actions:
get finder items (from a specified folder)
copy finder items (to a specified folder)
It runs, but why is there nothing in the specified folder in the 2nd action?

It might help if you told what those two actions were...
BTW- the simplest possible automator workflow would have just one action..

  • AIR 3.3 stop background audio when another audio app is launched?

I currently have audio playing in the background in my AIR app for iOS. My problem is that when you have the audio playing in the background, and you launch any other audio app on your phone...the audio starts to overlap because my AIR app does not stop playing audio. So when you open Pandora, Music, IHeartRadio, Youtube, etc...the AIR audio still plays.
Is this fixed in the AIR 3.3 release with the <executeInBackground> tag? Or is there another way for my AIR app to recognize that another audio app is launching? All the afformentioned apps play nice together like that.
I would think this would be grounds for not being accepted in the iTunes store.
I really need some answers because my app is set to go live soon and this will be a game changer if I cannot fix it. I will probably have to try and create it in objective C
Thanks in advance for any help!
-- I posted this in the wrong place last night and meant to post it here. --

Thanks a lot for the reply!
It is very unfortunate that there is not a solution to this. It seems that building an audio/music player app via AIR for iOS is not really feasable due to this limitation.
I would think the use case would be larger for my case because typically, when you launch a game on your iPhone, the background audio application stops the music. Or maybe just have a listener that could detect if another app was launched at least, so you could stop your AIR audio by choice. That would be great.
Do you see this as grounds for an audio app being rejected? If the background audio does not stop unless you physically go back into the app and pause it?
    Thanks.

  • How to see all my bib under the audio app of my ipad

    Hello,
I have an issue since the update of my ipad in 6.x or the itunes in version 11.x: now, in the audio app of my ipad, when I switch on the itunes bib, I only see few of the album, not all of them. Furthermore I don't see the same list in the album view, or in the artist view, but in all the cases not at all all my bib.
It was perfectly working previously: can anyone help me?
    thank you
    Rmanal

A little up: is it working well for you?

  • Third party audio apps not getting recognized

Why do most of my third party audio apps not get recognized by the "inter-app audio apps" feature in the new version of Garageband? I have version 3 of the IPad. It only recognizes Galileo (organ app) and not Sunrizer, Sample Tank, etc.

They are simply not enabled for that yet, maybe they will in the future; just find those who are. I think Audiobus, a 5 dollar app, can connect to more programs, and those too have to support it, but the supported program list is probably longer. Audiobus is very popular

  • When looking at how much room is taken up by audio, apps, etc. on your phone in iTunes, what is the "other" category?

When looking at how much room is taken up by audio, apps, etc. on your phone in iTunes, what is the "other" category?

"Other" contains documents and app data associated with apps.  It can also contain things like stored emails and browser history.  It's usually around 1-2gigs.  If it's any more than that, there's a chance that you have corrupted data on your iPad.  The only way to fix that problem is to restore your iPad to factory settings and start anew.

  • Simplest possible buckminster build?

    <currently in eclipse 3.8>
I've been beating my head against buckminster for a while now, despite reading a good chunk of the documentation book thingy and doing extensive googling. I think I vaguely understand what's going on, but can't get anything to work.
The question: is there, somewhere, an example of the rmap and cquery files for the simplest possible RCP application? Like, say, the one that generates when you select "Hello RCP application" or "RCP application with a view" off the wizard? The closest I can find is the mail application, which is still a bit much for me ATM.
    Thanks.
(ps: if a simple google search turns it up, please convey your search terms. I'm trying to get better at the art of google.)

  • HT4211 My audio apps keep playing in the background after I answer a phone call. How do I turn this off?

My audio apps keep playing in the background after I answer a phone call. How do I turn this off?

    Hello BobWeaver,
It sounds like we need to troubleshoot the software on your device as that is not expected behavior.
I would perform steps 1, 3 and 5 from the iPhone Troubleshooting Assistant found here http://www.apple.com/support/iphone/assistant/phone/. If you get to step 3, then I suggest closing all the apps. Here is step 1 to get you started:
    Restart iPhone
To restart iPhone, first turn iPhone off by pressing and holding the Sleep/Wake button until a red slider appears. Slide your finger across the slider and iPhone will turn off after a few moments.
Next, turn iPhone on by pressing and holding the Sleep/Wake button until the Apple logo appears.
Is iPhone not responding? To reset iPhone, press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button at the same time for at least 10 seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
If your device does not turn on or displays a red battery icon, try recharging next.
    Cheers,
    Sterling

  • QT Screen Recording audio app + narration

I'm trying to create a QT Screen Recording where the app in question is an audio app - the only audio recorded is the microphone. One solution is to use Soundflower. Soundflower itself is simple.. after installing, use Garageband's audio preferences to output to Soundflower, and set QT's Screen Recording audio input to Soundflower. This sends all the GB audio directly to QT.
However, that excludes the Mac's own microphone and anything I might wish to say - and record.
An Audio Midi Setup "aggregate device" allegedly allows multiple sound sources to be mixed together. I created one using the Mac's microphone and the Soundflower audio source (i.e. Garageband output).
    A block diagram would be:
    Garageband audio out>Soundflower
Aggregate device: Mac Mic + Soundflower (Garageband output)
Aggregate device is set as the QT audio input device - except it doesn't show up in the Record tool!!
And what should the System Audio Output be set to during QT recording?
Soundflower offers another piece supposedly offering audio mixing called SoundflowerBED. It's running up in my Menu bar, but the choices it offers are cryptic.
    Any wisdom on this???
    thanks - Karl out West

Can I record audio when screen recording?
Depends on which app you are using and what form of audio you want to record. E.g., QT X can record audio via the line in or built-in microphone option but not the system audio. On the other hand, an application like Snapz Pro X can record microphone and/or the Mac system audio.
Are there settings for the quality of recording, etc?
QT X has two quality presets from which to choose. Third-party screen capture apps may have other options. E.g., Snapz Pro X allows the user to select any of audio and/or video compression options for which the system is configured for final output.

  • Is bootcamp good for audio apps?

hi, ive tried vmware fusion and im getting unusable sound (distortion / crackling)
i want to use cubase, soundforge and wavelab on windows xp on my macbook.
all these apps say to use ASIO drivers/audio settings when possible, for best sound and low latency.
is anyone here using windows xp on mac for music production applications?
is it working out? good sound and low latency?...
m-audio interface = they told me they dont support bootcamp officially.
im gonna get an m-box2 soon, for pro tools, but hope to use that too on windows xp as regualr audio interface.
say if i install bootcamp and windows xp on my mac.
would i simply just install my soundcard drivers (m-audio) into windows xp?
(just like how i would install on a normal desktop PC?) or would i need some other kind of drivers for mac or ......
    thanks in advance.

    this forum is fun?
    i guess so...in a kinda weird way.......
    I'm a weird person
And browsing through here, finding and learning myself while at the same time trying to help others, yeah that's fun.
i just use this forum for serious stuff to learn....but use macrumors forum for fun stuff...as this forum tends to shut down my posts!
Yup, the TOU are sometimes strict here.
mac is a more pleasant experience, compared to PCs.
pc = pain = stress = troubleshooting = slow = crashing = freezing = weird things happening......... in my experience...with music applications.
    im mac for life now.
Me too, having switched a little over 2 years ago, I'm an addict now.
NTFS v fat32....decisions decisions life is oh so hard. ...
FAT32 has a size limitation for single files of 4GB. Don't know if you are dealing with such file sizes.
Personally ever since Windows NT I have used NTFS as file system.
how do you put those emotion icons on? oh well
    See here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Emoticon
    take care
You too and Have Fun (at least with your Mac).
