Simplest way to geotag with Canon SD1200

Very simple question: what is the best way to go about geotagging with my Canon SD1200? I love the fact that my iPhone geotags automatically so I can see precisely where I have been. I have seen several options from google earth to geotagger, picasa for mac and graphic coverter software. Let me know the best and easiest way - I'm just now getting started. Thanks in advance.

Lightroom 4.2 stopped mid way through tethering with Canon 1DX. Top left corner bar read still transferring, but all images had already been viewed in preview of tether and i had given it an etxra 15 minutes to contine transferring until I rebooted everything. I restarted several times while client waited, but LR would no longer accept tethered images any longer. Any suggestions?

Well, the EOS Utility was incompatable with OSX for quite awhile and once LR appeared to support tethering, I migrated away from it. Until yesterday.
The workflow is still wonky, if you want to use LR for display/printing (which I do), but it's doable.
There are tutorials online, I remember finding them (sorry no links) years ago.
The main bugaboo is creating the appropriate folders in the right order. Both LR and EOS Utility are really picky about those folders (have to be empty, both apps picky about that, so you'll probably have to manually empty after firing off a couple of test images).
I always forget how I did it, but last night's kind of fresh in my mind — I think the order that worked for me was:
create a destination folder in EOS Utility
in LR's auto-import settings, choose the step #1 folder as the watched folder (you've got to do this before putting a single thing in that folder, which will likely mean manually tossing some test images, because if you don't LR will ***** at you that the folder must be empty.)
below that in the same window, create a Destination folder. (don't know why this is necessary, but it is)
Finally, I suggest doing all this in one parent folder and creating a shortcut to that folder somewhere very convenient so that you want drive yourself crazy in the inevitable opening, closing and reopening of these folders, trying to troubleshoot. :-)

What's the best way to deal with Canon pf24 files?

I'm working on a project shot mainly with Canon DSLR footage (1080p, 24fps.) But now I would like to add some footage from a Canon Camcorder recording in AVCHD format. It would seem to make the most sence to shoot at 24fps, or as Canon calls it pf24. The question is, is premiere or media encoder able to interpret the canon footage and do the proper 3-2 pulldown? Or should I record in 30fps (or pf30) and convert the footage to 24 fps in media encoder before adding it to my project? Keep in mind that I can't just shoot everything in 30p because the bulk of the project is already shot at 24p. Also, I am using CS6. Does anyone have experience with this? Thoughts?

Ed you are soo right! PP does not automatically fix the problem by dropping the footage into a 24p AVCHD sequence. If you have CS6 PP and AE you can use easily fix this ugly problem.
Excuse me why I step up on my soapbox - Adobe Premiere Pro development team -- please fix this @$%& problem asap!!!! The PP Interpret footage function is a joke without it!
The best solution I could come up with after investing a ton of time into this is to use AfterEffects inside PP as a filter. Therefore you will not have to duplicate or re-render all your PF24 footage to create true 24p clips. You work with the same source clips throughout the entire process. Here's what you do - 1st create a 24p AVCHD sequence in PP and drop your PF24 clips into it. Now you can select individual clips or the entire sequence of clips and "right click" and select "Replace with AfterEffect Composition". This will export the selected clip(s) into AE. Now you can use the world-famous AE Interpret footage function to remove the pulldown issues. Inside AE right-click the clip - select Interpret footage - select the fielding (in my case it was Upper Field First) - then finally the "magic bullet" - select "Guess 3:2 Pulldown" button. Now when you jump back into PP you will be working with beautiful "TRUE" 24p footage.

Simplest way to deal with multiple-row-pair

I would like to report all the communicating pairs and if possible the volume communicated, getting rid of the logical duplicates (A->B = B->A in my case).
Result would be: A->B 110, C->D 70, B->C 90, B->D 80
Anyone has an idea on the simplest way to achieve this ?

What is the simplest way to encode with xvid

I have a collection of home videos. I can import them from the camera as .avi files. From there, I would like to encode them into mpeg4 videos, but I would like to use xvid - I heard it complied to the mpeg4 standards. I have been reading a lot of forums, but there is nothing that says what the command line is or something simple. I know several Arch users have used xvid. Is it possible to encode with xvid from the command line? If not, how can I do it?
Oh, I have also installed xvidcore via pacman, but there doesn't seem to be an exvidenc like I thought there would be.

I think mencoder is unbeatable, it's man page is quite lengthy but worth reading carefully as there's loads of good info there.
Basically, you can do something like this:
cat film.avi | mencoder -oac mp3lame -lameopts cbr:br=64 -ovc xvid -xvidencopts bitrate=1000 -vf crop=720:544:24:16,pp=lb -o output.avi
That's a really rough guide and may not work how you want it to - there's tons of switches and options you can apply if you want.

Simplest way to support dual monitor with HP 2570P

I would like to be able to use my dual monitors with my HP 2570P. I do not yet have a docking station.
What is the simplest way to support dual monitor display with my HP 2570P ?
I'm not looking for mirror i am looking for an extended desktop. I can live with out the laptop display if required.
I know there was a previous post about the 2540 but I'm not sure if the outcome applied to 2570p too.

There is no truly simple way except use of a docking station.
You can use the VGA port or the display port. None of the manuals I have seen assert that you can use them both simultaneously.
There is no a previous post about the 2540 in regards to using a dual external display setup in the forum that I have seen.

I am totally perplexed... photo printing help suggestions with Canon

I am a recent convert from the PC world... been using my iMac for a little over 6-7 weeks now. For the most part I love it but still run across a few bumps in the road. This is one of them...
Before I switched to my iMac I was printing some fairly good photos on my Canon IP6700D. I used Photoshop Elements 5 and Adobe Lightroom. I have since upgraded to PSE 6 for Mac and Lightroom 2 for Mac. I have also tested Aperture and printed from iPhoto.
The photos I am printing now are pretty lousy... I have tried various settings. What I am missing... or cannot find... are the printer preferences that were easily accessed in the PC world. The preferences gave me a huge number of settings and profile options.
Am I missing something easy... or is this just a difficult process.

I don't seem to have much in the way of options through utility. I also cannot retrieve ink level information??? should i be able to see that?
With regards to confirming printing options and the interface, by hitting the triangle i get the list - layout, quality and media etc. That is what i use and within those headings i would then see the options that are specific to my canon printer. They are not generic. I don't have a heading 'printer features' which a friend has with a different printer(should i have that heading??) but for me to produce higher quality prints/ or lower for that matter i would select the paper type and it automatically bump up or reduce quality accordingly.

Log and Transfer problem with Canon DSLR

I have not been able to make Log and Transfer work with my canon 5D mrk II files. I can import the files or even drag and drop them into FCE but never have been able to get them to come in using log and transfer function. I have tried every kind of file conversion using quicktime Pro and MPEG StreamClip. Does anyone have a way of getting their files into FCE using this function?
All I ever get is this error:
"DCIM" contains unsupported media or has an invalid directory structure. Please choose a folder whose directory structure matches supported media.
My file structure from the chip is: /DCIM/100EOS5D/MVI_**.mov (and also) MVI_**.thm

have you loaded the canon plug in for final cut? this may be the simplest way for you to get those files into FCP.

Anyone familiar with Canon DW-100 AVCHD burner?

I am anything but a techie, and am looking for the simplest way to back up my AVCHD files from my Canon HF-10 video camera. I am considering buying Canon's DW-100 burner, which automatically backs up the raw AVCHD files onto DVDs. However, I'm wondering, once I've burned the files to DVD, how difficult it is to ingest the backed up footage from the DVDs.
Thus far, I've only ingested the files directly from the camera using Log and Transfer; that works perfectly. But, if I purchase the DW-100 burner to back up the files, can I later ingest the backed up files from the DVDs into my system? In other words, does the burner hook into the system the same way the camera does for ingesting AVCHD files?
My system is a MacBook Pro with Final Cut Express 4.

Thank you, Wally! I feel like a complete neophyte. Perhaps you could share your knowledge a little further. I'm wondering about how large files/structures will work. For example, my camera is now completely full (i.e. 16GB). Since a DVD won't hold all that info, and (from what I understand) the "structure" of the entire 16GB file needs to be intact in order for FCE to ingest the files, how will that work? In other words, I can understand that the structure and, say, 4GB of files all on a single DVD would work when I insert the DVD into the drive, but what if the files are spread out over 2 or 3 DVDs? Would the structure be read off of the first DVD and the files subsequently ingested as I insert the 2nd and 3rd DVD, or would the structure be "imprinted" (?) on all three DVDs? (i.e. Would the first DVD be required in order to retrieve the files on the 2nd and 3rd DVD, or would each be useable on its own?)

What is the simplest way for plsql procedure to return multiple rows (records). There are many combination of ways to do it but I am looking for a solution that is appropriate for plsql beginners. Many solutions use cursors, cursor variables, collections and more that kind of things that are complex on the face of it. Is it somehow possible to achieve the same with less effort?
Sample query would be: SELECT * FROM EMPLOYEES;
I want to use returned rows in APEX to compose APEX SQL(in that context plsql) report.
It is enough to use just SELECT * FROM EMPLOYEES query in APEX but I want to use plsql procedure for that.

Process_the_set_of rows_in APEX () kind of capabilitywhich "abstracts/hides" relation database from developers when working on relation database, it may not be the best approach (at least strategically). Because I believe it already is abstracted enough.
I find REF CUROSOR most effective for such use, when the "begginer" has basic understanding of processing SQL result set .
So in a nut shell, the techniques (that you already are familiar with) are the tools available. I am not aware of any alternative tools (in pure Oracle) that will simplify / hide basics from develpers.

There is no automatic way to generate XML documents from an arbitary set of relational tables using the information contained in an XML Schema. Typically the easiest way to generate XML from relational data is to use the SQL/XML operators (XMLElement, XMLAGG, XMLAttribtues, XMLForest). There are many examples of using these operators in the forums You can validate the generated XML against the XML Schema by registering the XML Schema with XML DB and then using the XMLType.SchemaValidate() method

I did a search for the answer to this 2 part question but got only a jumble of answers,mostly from 2010.
Title above is self-explanatory.
1.How to I get .pdf's to my iPad2 from my Mac?
2. What is the easiest and best way to read them once they are on my iPad?
I have seen some mention of .pdf reader Apps and also mention of using iTunes to sync .pdf's between desktop Mac and iPad but no explanation of how to do it. Even the iPad2 Missing Manual gives short shrift to this topic.

Another way to get PDF files to your iPad are to email them. I find this to be the absolute, simplest way transfer PDF files. It may not be practical for multiple PDFs but for a couple here and there it really is so easy and simple to do. When you open the PDF in the email you can choose the Open In function and then open them in iBooks where you can save, read and print them. Another method is to use DropBox for access to multiple PDF files.
There are any number of PDF reader apps available and you can look for them in the app store.

How to get Camera RAW / Photoshop CS5 to work with Canon 100D? I don't want to by this product again and again...

In what way is ACR not working in Bridge? Is there no right-click Open in Camera Raw available from Bridge, or there is, but the ACR version is less than ACR 6.7.1 or what exactly is the issue?
Also, if you open Photoshop and do Help / About Plug-ins / Camera Raw, is ACR missing from the list, or if not, what version does it say is installed?
You might also want to describe what methods you have tried to correct the issue, since saying you've tried what you've seen posted and they didn't work, isn't really much to go on.

Import failed with canon 6d footage after latest update

After I updated to Final Cut X 10.0.8, I've been getting "Import Failed" messages during the import process when taking in footage from my Canon 6D
The import process also seems to be going very slow (slower than usual)
I've tried duplicating the SD card locally on the hard drive and re-importing, but have gotten the same results.
If I click OK on the error dialogue box, the import will continue. but another box will pop up every 5 to 10 minutes or so
Any ideas?

Hey Russ, it actually works fine for me too the few times I've used it but I point it out as a common denominator with people who have trouble importing that way. Separating the .mov files into their own folder eliminates the camera and card reader, both much slower than just transfering files from a connected drive. But I'm doing newspaper video with Canon DSLRs - including 5D3 video, similar to 6D - almost daily where speed is of the essence and this is by far the most foolproof method I've come across.

Colour profiling with Canon ip6600d

Hello can anyone please help me?
I am using the above printer on Canon Photo Paper Plus Glossy with Canon original inks.
If I let PS (CS6) manage the profile and set the printer driver colour correction to NONE the driver set itself back to Driver Matching setting straight away. The result is extremely saturated colours in some areas.
If I dont allow PS to manage the profile but let the driver do it automatically the colour results are much better but... surely it would be better to have PS managing the colour profiles.
Why does it keep changing the setting please?

That sounds like a bug in the driver -- when the application is managing color, the driver should disable it's color controls (and get out of the way).
