Simplified Chinese in JRE (US-version)

If you are using JRE international version, the Chinese characters will
be displayed correctly in the applet. But if you are using JRE(US-version),
bad, event cannot start the applet ( an unsupportedencodingexception
throwed out).
I don't want to force the people to reinstall their JRE to support my
applet, so, is there any way easy to make my applet running smoothly
in all the java environment?
That really makes me headache.

None short of the following...
I'd assume that you package up your applet classes in a JAR file (at least that's how I always did it back when I were a humble newbie applet author... ah, those were the days...) ;-)
Find the encoding classes you need within i18n.jar, and add them to your applet JAR file. This way, they should at least be guaranteed of being in the applet's classpath and possibly working.
Other than that, it's likely off to download the international JRE with your users. :-(
Hope that helps!

  • Unable to read Simplified Chinese in downloaded excel

    Hi,
We are running an MDMP Simplified Chinese SAP system.
After extracting some data with both English and Simplified Chinese and saving it as excel file, we are not able to view the Simplified Chinese characters when it is opened in MS Excel.  "Garbage" are being displayed in place of Simplified Chinese.  English display is ok.
The PC already has Simplified Chinese fonts installed (Control Panel->Regional & Language Options->Language tab->Install files for East Asian languages), and Windows XP is an English version.
In addition, we are able to key in Simplified Chinese via the keyboard using Hanyu Pinyin.
I am suspecting that the issue is with MS Excel which doesn't know how to convert the Simplified Chinese.
Does anyone know how to overcome this problem?
    Thanks

    Hi,
as far as I know you need to set the system locale (Language for Non-Unicode programs) of Windows in the control panel to Chinese.
In addition in a standard  MDMP system it is mandatory to logon with language Chinese if you want to download Kanji characters.

  • Newbie: Simplified Chinese characters are displayed as square boxes

    Hi,
I am using Windows XP Simplified Chinese Version SP3, Sun JDK5.0 Update 20. I want to run Apache Ofbiz POS; however, the Chinese characters (zh) in PosUiLabels.xml are all displayed as square boxes.
I have tested run Ofbiz in Mac OS X and the Simplified Chinese are displayed normally, and other languages can also be displayed in Windows XP.
    What should I do?
    Regards,
    Terence

When you say "displayed" I assume you mean displayed in some GUI component. In which case you should assign a font to that component which can render those characters properly.

  • Simplified Chinese displayed as boxes with numbers

Firefox used to be able to display Simplified and Traditional Chinese character pages perfectly when it's set at "Auto detect- Chinese". However, ever since I updated to 4.0b7, Simplified Chinese characters have all started to be displayed as boxes with little numbers in them.
Despite trying different encodings, such as GBK and GB18030, nothing is able to properly display Chinese simplified characters. I have IE as well, and it is able to display both S and T Chinese pages without a problem like Firefox before 4.0b7. I'm using English version of FF with 64bit Windows 7.

The boxes with little numbers mean that Firefox is now unable to find a font which supports the characters in question. (It's nothing to do with the character set detection.) This could either be because the fonts have been removed from your computer (unlikely, if IE can find them), or perhaps because the website has changed to ask for fonts you don't actually have, or perhaps it's serving different pages to different versions of Firefox. Were you on 4.0b6 before, or 3.6.x?

  • Cannot read simplified Chinese

    Dear all,
I have problem in reading a simplified Chinese PDF file. Some characters can't be displayed in Adobe Reader 9.3.2 (in Win XP SP3 English version). I try to copy and paste the content to a Word document, the character can be display.
I already install the Chinese Simplified Fonts Support for Adobe Reader 9, but it doesn't help. Any suggestion?

"When I try to open a Chinese PDF, I get a message saying, "The Simplified Chinese Language Support Package is required to display this page properly." It then offers to install it, and I click "OK". Then it goes through the installation process."
I have the same problem, but I am running Windows Vista Ultimate 64-bit.  I have Adobe Acrobat Standard 9.3.2 installed.  After installation, it reboots my computer, but the same error comes up.  After doing this twice, I tried using Control Panel/Programs and Features to Modify the installation and add Simplified Chinese Language Support.  That process also completed succssfully (i.e. no error messages) but even after rebooting again, and re-entering control panel, it showed that the support had not been installed.  When opening the same document the same message was displayed.
It is clear that Acrobat 9.3.2 has an issue across a number of Windows platforms.  Will soneone (anyone?) from Adobe acknowledge this issue?

  • How to convert traditional chinese to simplified chinese in iWork?

As a topic, after update to Mavericks,   I'm unable to convert the traditional Chinese to simplified Chinese, even though I use the Page Service  to set a short cut for converting, but it doesn't work. When I use Lion version, I'm able to do it............. It's hard to Google transit everything when there is including some tables in the Page......

I think for this you will have to go back to using iwork 09, which you should still have in Applications/iwork.

  • Help!! Want to immigrate Oracle Data in ASCII7 code to a Simplified Chinese Database

I want to immigrate Oracle Data in ASCII7 code to a Simplified Chinese Database?
I use exp& imp but it failed.
    Who can help me !
    Thanks a lot!

Can you please specify the exact character sets you are migrating, such as US7ASCII ->ZHS16GBK . There are a couple of common scenarios. One is the source character set is not a subset of the target. Another is that the source character set has illegal characters. In your case maybe non ASCII characters. A third possibility is that you have not set up your NLS_LANG settings properly when you did your import or export. Can you please also describe the error message you are getting? What versions of Oracle do the source and target database reside? There is an Oracle utility that is highly recommended to use with Oracle8i before doing migrations called the Character Set Scanner. For more information on database character set migration issues and the Character Set Scanner please refer to

  • Simplified Chinese font missing ...

I recently bought a 17" MacBook Pro--bought in China--and have discovered that one of the most important Simplified Chinese fonts, Song.dfont, is missing. The machine came with OS-X 10.4.7 which I have upgraded to 10.4.8, fully updated. To try to find it, I did an "archive and install" on my bootable back-up disk, but Song.dfont is missing from that new 10.4.7 installation. The Hei.dfont and Kai.dfont are there on both versions of the system.
I tried copying the font from my old Rev 1 TiBook, which has it, though it is now running 10.4.8 but when I tried to install it on the MacBook Pro, I got an alert that it was corrupt ... something to do with a conflict with the original SIL Doulos IPA font, I believe.
Can anyone suggest how I can get it. Song is essential, as I exchange files with Chinese Windows users on a regular basis, and they are in Song. The system installs STSong, but that doesn't help, because I also need to produce PDFs and STSong is not licensed for embedding in a PDF.
So please, can anyone help me to find a source for installing this font on my MacBook Pro?
    Mark Hilton

Look through the files on the Main re-install disk that came with your MBP. In the "System" folder you will find "packages". Inside are the various installers. One of those may well have the install package for your Chinese fonts. Maybe this works.
Another way might be to get Pacifist, and if you can find the right package, drag it on to Pacifist's window. This would be another way to install the font.
Note: I am not exactly which package would do the job. Pacifist is very helpful at searching this out for you. Find Pacifist from versiontracker.com.
    Note 2: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=25710
This indicates that it is in a package called "Additional Asian Fonts". This wil make it easier for you.

  • Traditional vs. Simplified Chinese Fonts - Captivate 6

Hello, I am creating 3 versions of a class - Traditional Chinese, Simplified Chinese, and English.
I understand that some of the Adobe fonts (Heiti, Fangsong, etc.) are more appropriate for one Chiese version or the other. Can someone advise which are for Traditional and which are for Simplified Chinese?
This has been such a long and trying process; I appreciate any and all help.
    Thanks!

    Hi Christine,
I beileve you posted this on FB page, I have responded there.
But would let you know my answer again. I have not experimented much but have made a project once using both these languages/fonts.
    I used :
Kozuka Gothic Pr6N for Traditional Chinese
    Simsun for Simplified Chinese

  • How do Traditional & Simplified Chinese labels work in Narrative Reports

    Hi There,
I need to create a narrative report which will display the field labels in the language that the user has specified.
For instance, if the user's default language is Simplified Chinese, how can I set the narrative report to automatically translate the field labels?
Is there a way to do this as we have multiple users with different languages specified as their defaults.

  • Is it possible to turn on simplified Chinese h&j in InDesignCC?

    Hi,
I am moving a load of simplified Chinese text from Word to InDesignCC, and there does,'t appear to be support for simplified Chinese in the languages dropdown. Is this something that is available?
    All help gratefully received!
    Robert

I'm not sure that using CJK language attributes affects H&J other than to turn it off when those attributes get attached to alphabetic text.  Of course, ID can use Japanese line-breaking rules, but you need the CJK versions of ID (or Harbs' World Tools Pro) to control them — in other words, my understanding is that this is beyond the World Ready Composer.
As for ID's list of "Language" attributes, IDCS4 and earlier versions listed them in alphabetical order; that is, unlike the font list, they are not broken down by character set.  I used to think ID came with language attributes for CJK, but when I said as much on this forum several years ago I was quickly proven wrong.  Unbeknownst to me, I'd apparently imported the attributes by placing MS Word files (*.doc and *.rtf) in ID going back to ID2.  MS Word seemed to apply the language format whenever you entered text in a CJK font.  Once they showed up in ID's list those attributes seemed to hang around — in fact, I had a couple each for Simp. and Trad. Chinese, picked up I supposed from Mac and Windows files.
I just checked an IDCS4 file where I placed a CJK-less *.docx yesterday, and was surprised to find no CJK languages in IDCS4's list.  I now realize I may have perpetuated the CJK language attributes by re-cycling old character styles that included them (most of my work includes some CJK).  Or maybe the difference is a matter placing of *.docx versus *.doc and *.rtf?  I dunno, and I certainly don't know about IDCC (my latest is CS6, but I mainly use CS4).  Still, if I needed the Chinese attribute I'd probably try typing some Chinese in a *.doc or *.rtf file, making it into a char. style there, and then see if the attribute came along for the ride when placing the file in IDCC.
    Good luck!
    David

  • Does OWLCS 11gR1 support Simplified Chinese?

    Hi,
Does OWLCS and Oracle Communicator 11gR1 support Simplified Chinese now? I only see the English version available on the download page.
    Regards,
    Sean

    Hi Sean,
There are a total of 3 installers for OWLCS as can be seen in the OWLCS download page at the following URL:
    http://www.oracle.com/technology/software/products/owlcs/index.html
    - The OWLCS Core Platform supports English and Japanese only
    - The OWLCS Services does support Simplified Chinese (including 7 other Oracle standard admin languages (std_admin))
    - The OWLCS Client (Oracle Communicator) supports English only
    - The OWLCS Support Team

  • Where is the Simplified Chinese Language Support package for Acrobat?

Hi, everyone. I am using Adobe Acrobat X Pro in Chinese version of Windows 7. When I try to input in an English PDF, a message showed "An error has occurred that may be fixed by installing the latest version of the Simplified Chinese Language Support package." But I can not find this "package" anywhere? Does anyone has any clue? Thanks in advance.

Actually the windows is Ultimate version and I installed the English language package to convert it into English version Windows. The symptom was improved a little that I can add and delete characters in PDF but still can not "add or edit text box". In addition, every time I try to click the tool "add or edit text box", a message displays "There was a problem reading this document (14)." What does this mean?
