Simulate RS 422 serial messages

Hi,
I want to simulate/Generate RS 422 messages with the help of Labview and send to my PLC, right now I have NI 9188 Chassis and some I/O modules. Please suggest what should be the approach and software, hardware needed for this purpose.
Thanks
Prashant

Use a COM port with a converter would be the easiest.

  • C-Series Module NI 9871, 4-Port, RS485/422 Serial Interface

    I have a question regarding the C-Series Module NI 9871, 4-Port, RS485/422 Serial Interface.
I need to find out how it recovers the data from the link. I need to compare it with 8b/10b encoding.
Does anyone know what UARTs are used or how the data is recovered.
    Thanks
    John Lee

    Hi John,
I have had a look into this and I cannot find any specific information on the Transciever or UART. However I have come across an example using the 9871 with processing on a cRIO FPGA.
To find this example open up Labview » go to Help » Find Examples » Search for 9871 and open up NI-987x Serial Loopback.lvproj.
Hopefully this should give you a good start. Once your serial data is passed onto the FPGA you can then decode the 8b/10b within the FPGA code.

  • RS 422 serial adpator for FCP

can anyone recommend a good RS 422 serial port adapter for my Mac Pro. I have a intensity card, but I need deck control for my Sony UVW 70 Beta Deck. Any suggestions? I alread have the USB to serial port adaptor cable. I just need the RS 422 adpator at this point.

Try asking the people who actually carry the hardware you need; try Abel-Cine, VTP or VMI in the LA area or Omega Broadcast in Austin and a host of other pro-video distributors/dealers who will not only know what you need but will most likely have it in stock. If you need a list of other pro-video equipment suppliers go to DVinfo.net and look up their sponsor list.

  • Invalid serial # message/Unable to reinstall

I don't know what caused this, but I attempted to open Audition last night and it didn't happen. I got the odd prompt that the serial number was invalid. (I bought this program many months ago, and it is installed on this and another computer.)
I then attempted to uninstall it so I could then reinstall it, but have been prevented from doing so for some reason. There are two options in the Install Wizard on the disc, Repair and Remove.
When I attempt to repair, it completes the installation successfully. Then I attempt to open the program and get "The serial number is invalid. Please reinstall Adobe Audition." again. I can't!
When I attempt to remove it, the process gets stopped at the same point each time, prompting the following the message:
"The wizard was interrupted before Adobe Audition 3.0 could be completely installed.
Your system has not been modified. To complete installation at another time, please run setup again."
In the Control Panel's "Uninstall or change a program" section, there are two entries for Adobe Audition 3.0
One has the options to Uninstall, Change or Repair and has no listing under the "Publisher" column.
When attempting to perform any one of these options, NOTHING happens.
The other, with "Adobe Systems Incorporated" has only a "Uninstall/Change" option.
Choosing this sole option results exactly the same way as when attempting to perform the uninstall from the disc.
Ugh. What's happening? How can I resolve this, and what might have caused it?

    > I bought it from this site, actually.
Just goes to show you can't trust Adobe an inch. :)
Activation limit - there is a set number of times you can deactivate and reactivate. In case the magic number is confidential I won't mention it, but in typical use - reinstalling after buying a new PC every now and then, or after reinstalling the OS - you'd be unlikely to hit it. However, in a few cases people's individual needs have brought their heads up against the ceiling - and only Adobe can help with that as SteveG confirms.

  • Asynchronous serial message read

    Hi, everybody.
I have the message based device. I don't know when the device will send the message, so I didn't know how should I create the VISA read function to read whole string from the device(because it reads only data, which are enabled at serial port buffer).May be it can be done by using VISA bytes at port in while loop, but I don't know exactly how.Can you explain it to me?Or do you have any other solution?Thank you for your help.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Hi
I reworked the basic serial read and write example, just to give you some programming hint. Also remember that then reading from the serial buffer, you do not need to read all the content. Read the number of bytes you need. The serial buffer is FIFO type. So the oldest content will always be first in the queue to read.
My example is somewhat simple, and I did not test it but should work. Check out queues and notifiers (in example finder) for more advanced programming techniques.
Besides which, my opinion is that Express VIs Carthage must be destroyed deleted

  • Simulate Keyboard using serial pc port as an output. Use the pc as a Keyboard

    Hi everyone,
I need to design an application to use a pc as a Keyboard using the serial port as an output to be connected to a ps2 port or serial port keyboard of another pc.
Is it possible? Anyone Knows a solution or an example?
I've seen a lot of examples about capturing keyboard events, but not about this case.
    Thanks in advance,
    Silvia

One more thing I wanted to add is that since am not using a computer at the receiving end, the output data from the PC serial port has to be in PS2 format. But reading articles on some websites (http://www.computer-engineering.org/ps2keyboard/) it seems like I will need a 8042 keyboard controller to deal with all the handshaking and signal level protocol as the RS232 serial port protocol is quite different from that of the PS2 protocol.
In the setup that I have, at the receiving end of the keyboard data I have a PCB (that has a ST uPSD3354DV microprocessor), that reads the PS2 input and displays it on an onboard LCD screen.
So based on this information, if someone can provide me with some ideas or suggestions, that would be great.
    Thank you in advance,
    Shoab

  • XI JMS Sender adapter EOIO with serialized messages

    Hello
I have a customer question.  They would like to use a JMS sender adapter with quality of service EOIO.  There will potentially be multiple messages in a MQ Series queue at the same time, but they want XI to pick up these messages in the correct order.  Is this possible?  The documentation for JMS sender adapter lists the following:
"Specify the Processing J2EE Cluster Server (Cluster ID).
This specification stops queue-jumping in the JMS queue. The valid cluster ID is located on the J2EE server – Administrator under Server."
    Does this relate?
    Thank you,
    Harold

Yes. Just choose <i>Exactly-onces-in-order</i> for Quality of Service.

When you choose EOIO, the processing can be done by one J2EE server node only. So put the cluster ID of the required server note here.

  • Multiple byte serial message construction

    Using LabVIEW 8.2
Have a computer system I need to send simulated data.
It is expecting a message of 26 bytes.
A synopsis of the contents follows:
    Byte
    0    Header
    1    Header
    2    Message Length
    3    Device address
4    GPS Seconds of Week  Byte0 LSB
    5    SOW - Byte1
    6    SOW - Byte2
    7    SOW - Byte3  MSB
    etc.
Given known values for the bytes, what is the simplest method of  constructing the string to be sent via RS-232 using the VISA Write VI?

Tried a test with known data and it seems to work regardless of the U8 vs I8 question.

  • Labview 2011 on Win7, OS causing serial loopback message corruption when clicking on top of windows?

I'm wondering if anyone else has seen problems like this.
I've been tearing my hair out over debugging some code. I have a ftont panel, I'm using some LEDs to send messages through the NI RS232 cable I bought, and have connected with a connector in a loopback fashion.
I've been trying to read the incoming messages from loopback...and based on those, changing indicators and controls on the front panel.
I could not figure why values were changing at strange times....like T's were turning to F's (I'm working with the serial data as boolean arrays).
Well, I was simplifying code, and mostly running right...but every once in awhile, it appeared that my front panel indictors, especially the values I'm changing based on the loopback serial messages would  *BLINK*.
I happened to be looking at the Probe Watch window...and I saw where my probes were correctly showing on a couple spots (a left and right indicator) TTTTTTTF  and TTTTTTTF......these appear at times to change T's to F's and vice versa.
I then started clicking around...and found this is almost always caused, when I click the mouse on the top of the window...the part that you usually click and drag to move a window around the Windows desktop!!!!!!!!!!!!
I can see this happen when I click on ANY window on the Windows OS desktop!!!!!!
It appears that the OS is messing with me..............?
I'm using Labview 2011, 32-bit on Win7....I believe the OS is 64 bit.
Has anyone seen behavior like this before?
    Thanks in advance,
    cayenne

    Matthew Kelton wrote:
When you are probing, are you looking at the actual spot where you are getting your serial data, or are you looking at it after you've done some processing?  I would look at the actual raw data and use a serial port capture utility (there are several free ones on the internet) which will confirm your data is coming in correctly.
What is your CPU running at?  If it is pegged at 100%, something has to give.
Is your entire VI running in the UI execution system?  If you post your test code, it sounds like it would be easy enough for someone to do a loopback test of their own to confirm similar behavior.
Thanks for the reply.  No, CPU isn't being hardly used at all...this is a new lenovo laptop.....high end Dell U2711 monitor...
Task Mgr while Front Panel running:
I'm looking after I've done some processing....
I'm new to working with serial port stuff....I don't have a serial port capture device...?
Thing is...when I run this in debug with breakpoints and stepping through...I don't see this happening. But when running at full speed, and especially when I click on any of the open windows on my desktop, along the top margin where you would click and drag a window around...I can see the serial data in the probe jump...and all data going through the serial port and being displayed on the front panel changing values...
On my VI, I'm actually constructing the byte string...sending it  through the serial loopback, and receiving it and acting on it. I can see the data going in is the same as is coming out...it just seems to quickly corrupt and then come back again...like maybe it is getting interrupted by the Win7 OS....?
I can't really post the whole code here...proprietary stuff...that's why in the past, I was posting a separate, simpler vi with only the parts I was having problems with....
I think I have full support with NI...I wonder if I could send them the code to look at, with more confidentiality...?
But again, I can make the problems happen, when it and the probe window is open, in real time...by clicking on windows.
Also, this tends to explain problems I saw earlier...when running slow, all was well , when debugging with break points and stepping through. But at full speed, unexplained...things would start resetting without explanation...and without regularity.
    C
I"m not sure what you are asking with "Is your entire VI running in the UI execution system?"....I have the one vi running, and only that vi is running.....

  • Simulate arduino serial monitor

    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

You need to scroll the output. Here is the simple one
    1. Right click on string indicator
    2. Create property node for the same
    3. go to Text -> scroll position
    4. Wire +infinity.
Kudos are always welcome if you got solution to some extent.

  • Communication error when sending PI message from Integration Engine to AE

we currently installed and configured PI 7.3 system. Even I run post installation PI configuration several times, we are still facing error when Integration engine sends message to messaging system. ( my scenario: I send test message to IE directly, avoiding AE )...

  • Message serialization in XI with Web Service Adapters

  • Question about my serial number?

I received the Adobe CS5 Master Collection from my university, and did all the process of sending my information and my I.D. scan to adobe. After three days they successfully got back to me with a serial number, however, that does not seem to be the one that I have to use because that one contains letters and a larger amount of numbers of what the program asks to fit in. I re-opened my case but I want to make sure that it is not me the one making the mistake.
    my process was:
recieved the box with the DVDs
filled my information and sent adobe my ID and Coupon Code
recieved the email with the wrong serial
installed the program, and when I was prompted to type in it, it wouldn't let me type the words. and when I typed only the numbers, I couldnt fit them all and recieved an invalid serial message.
re-opened my case with this information.
another thing that might be helpfull, is that on the email it said: "CS5 Master Collection: Color Finesse CS5: **** (serial #) etc.... "
so what is Color Finesse, is that something different and what have may caused this?
    any quicker solutions?
    thank you.

    Hi, J. Davis!
Regardless of who does the logic board replacement, you'll still lose the System Profiler info on the serial number.
Here's a view of my own G4's System Profiler, for which Apple replaced the board a few years back. Please note the blank serial number for the last entry.

  • The Proper way to go - Passing Serialized Java Objects vs. Web Services?

The team which I am apart of in our little "community" is trying to convince some "others" (management) that we should not use web services to communicate (move large data) within the same application (allbeit a huge application spanning across many servers).
Furthermore these "others" are trying to tell us that in this same application when two small apps. inside of this large app. are both java we should not communicate via serialized java objects but instead we should use Web Services and XML. We are trying to convince them that the simplest way is best.
They have asked us to provide them with proof that passing serialized java objects back and forth between two smaller java applications inside of a larger one is an Industry Standard. Can anyone help either straighten my fellow workers and I out or help us convince the "others" of the proper way to go?

When I was a consultant we always gave the client what they wanted. Even if it was the wrong choice. Suck it up.
I'm glad I wasn't one of those customers. Although I agree that a customer is the one who decides what to do, when I pay someone for consultancy, I expect them to consult me. If they know I'm trying to do something that I shouldn't be doing, I expect a good consultant to be able to show me that there's a better way (not just tell me I'm not doing it right, mind you).
We pass a lot of data using XML and we don't have any transmission or processing speed issues.
Then you either have a much better network than our customer did, or we're not talking about the same amounts of data here.
    I used the JAX-RPC RI ...
That's cool... our customer was, unfortunately, infected with Borland products, so we had to use BES. The web services on BES were run by Axis.
    How large were these messages?
Huge... each element had about 15 attributes, so 1,200 elements would require 19,200 XML nodes (envelope not included). By comparison, the serialized messages weren't even a quarter that size. It's not just about what you send across the network; it's also the effort of parsing XML compared to desrializing Java objects. Our web service wasn't exactly the only process running at the server.
Anyone who understand the fundamental difference between ASCII (XML) and binary (serialized) formats realizes that no web service can possibly achieve the performance of binary Java services. Why do you think that work is being put into binary web services? I'm not saying XML is never a good thing; just that it's not The Holy Grail that a lot of people are making it look like.
