Simulating a Weather Station

Hello Everybody,
I wold like to simulate a weather station including thermometer and graphics to measure all the averages of the day, and another graph to calculate wind speed and also a gauge that indicates direction.
I don't have any hardware, so I would like to do that only with LabView help.......so all measurement will be casual.
Thermometer is not a problem, but how can I do with wind direction and speed??

Hi Zunflaz,
I hope you enjoy your work with Labview!!
I think that you can simulate very well the wind speed and direction using the mathematical function that you can find in the Functions Labview palette. You can for example simulate the encrease of the speed a RAMP and the direction with a sinusiode waveform.
I hope it helps.
Have a nice day.

  • Trouble connecting Weather Station to a 500-164

Hey all, I have a LA CROSSE weather station that I can't get to work on my new HP 500-164. I have downloaded the software (HEAVY WEATHER). It shows up on the computer but it doesn't work. In the set up I have options to connect to a Com Port No. Then a drop down box with COM1, COM2, COM3, or COM4. I have figured out that the ports on the front of the tower are #7 & #8. One on the back bottom is #9. Is there a #1,2,3, or 4? I have hooked this Station up to 2 other HP desktops with no issues. This one is not working for me though. I am not that computer literate but usually can get things done thru process of elimanation. Thanks in advance for any help!

Hi AshevilleDon. I did a search on their website for the " LA CROSSE weather station" and I couldn't find a specific model. What is that weather product's model number? What version of Windows do you have on your Desktop?

  • Weather Station Problem

I have a LaCrosse 2308AL weather station. I am trying to connect it to my intel-based iMac using a Keyspan USA-19HS serial-USB adapter Whether I plug the USB adapter into a powered bus or directly into the iMac, I have trouble. The software recognizes the adapter and the adapter blinks like it is supposed to. But the data will not flow from the station to the software running on the iMac (Leopard) I have done this before on the same computer with the same adapter but under Tiger. Is this a Leopard problem - and if so how do I fix it?

I emailed LaCrosse tonight. Asked them what I should do. When (if) I get a reply, I will post it. My 2308 is not totally wireless. Wires run from the wind direction/speed detector and from the rain bucket to a "hub". The hub can be wired or wireless. I run it wired because updates are faster. As usual, finding software to run on an iMac is limited. Thanks for your help. I hope to reciprocate.

  • Imac G3 weather station

I tried to do tech support for my son, who purchased an Oregon Scientific WMR968 Cable Free Complete Weather Station. After surfing the web for the ins and outs, we have the complete setup and have a web page with my notes on what is needed. http://homepage.mac.com/keego/MacWeatherStation.htm
With the difficulty that I experienced, I am asking what is the best way to share the info with other user group member and mac users in general.

I find that a very interesting use for an old iMac. I happen to have a couple of old iMacs that could do that job.
I have a couple of questions...
    (a) Since the weather station you are using has a full display, what benefits do you get from connecting it to your iMac? It would seem a weather station with no display might be cheaper.
    (b) It seems that the Weathertracker web site has really no information describing the features of the software other than one screen shot showing the data displayed in gauges. What features of the software do you find useful?

  • Davis Instruments Vangage Pro Weather Station and LabVIEW

I am developing a VI for communication with the Davis Instruments
Vantage Pro Weather Station in LabVIEW.  I need to be able to take the
current weather conditions off of the weather station and display them
in a VI.  The Weather Station will be connected via RS232 to a Compact
Fieldpoint.  Currently I am planning on sending the request command
over the serial (through VISA?), which would return a signal containing
all of the the needed data (which could be parsed within LabVIEW).
Does anyone know either how to do this or a better way to communicate
    with the Weather Station?
    Thank you,
    Joshua

    Joshua:
Nice find on the Davis site, I haven't been there in years....
Looks like you have a couple options.
    1. They have documented the serial command set and data format. You can look in LabVIEW help and search examples for serial communication (like Basic SerialReadandWrite). Set up the COM port accordingly and send a simple command and read the response as a test. To create a driver, at least in LabVIEW 8.2, under Tools/Instrumentation/CreateInstrumentDriverProject- use a GeneralPurpose (Message Based) for a source driver. I never have used it, but it may get you quicly started on the path. You can also probably use Windows Hyperterminal first as a sanity check before trying LabVIEW.
    2. They also have a nice dll library that appears to be well documented. Within LabVIEW, you can make calls to the dll and get data back. As long as it was written in C osr stdcall, you can use the CallLibraryFunctionNode function. There is a section in the LabView Help- Calling Code Written in Text Based Languages that describes how to do this.
    Hope this helps
    -AK2DM
Edit: I just saw you are using Compact Fieldpoint- Not sure what that is and how it may affect use of the options above.

  • Which simulated DAQ device would give a value 0 - 50?

Which simulated DAQ device would give a value between 0 - 50? I am trying to run LabVIEW Basics I course project (weather station) by simulating a DAQ device in MAX. (The no hardware version works fine, but I want to use MAX to help it run with a DAQ simulated device). The simulated devices have a range to -10 to 10 volts, while the DAQ Assistant expects a value between 0 - 50. Which DAQ device can solve this problem in MAX? I don't want to alter the VI's. Any suggestions?

The example you are referring is using a scale to do this. The transducer for the example in the course creates a voltage between 0-1V which is V * 100 = Degree Celsius.
If you include such a scale (modify it since the simulated devices do not create a "stable" voltage between 0..1V), you will get something useful for you.
    hope this helps,

  • Conky and noaa weather from xml

i am looking into trying to retrieve weather data from noaa xml file for locations then displaying it in conky. i am having trouble just extracting the data i want without downloading the xml file to the computer let alone getting it to appear in conky.
i have tried wget | grep but all that happens is the file gets downloaded and grep part does nothing.
can someone point me in the right direction  that may help me
    thanks.

I really don't know where I learned all this, mostly just google over time.
I believe that the weather station you are using is from La Guardia airport which is KLGA.
You can perhaps find a better station here.
Below is a script you may modify to suit your needs.
A little information about the script.  It uses wget to download the file into in /tmp/weather. On Arch Linux, /tmp is not actually on disk, but is in shared memory.  Thus the .xml file will be downloaded into shared memory.
Since it appears that the weather data is updated once per hour (as near as I can tell), the script will not try to retrieve new data until at least one hour and 15 minutes after the last observed time.  (I chose 1:15 since at La Guardia at least, there is about a 11 minute delay between when they make a weather observation and put the data online.) If the new data is still old (which could happen if the weather station is having problems or maintenence, etc.) then the script will keep trying to get new data roughly once every five minutes until the station comes back on line.
The script takes the weather station (KLGA for instance) as a command line parameter so you could easily use a different station.
    #!/bin/bash
    station="$1.xml"
    wdir='/tmp/weather'
    update_xml() {

  • Adding Weather Link

    Hi,
Is there some way to either paste in or add the code
to have a live weather reading on a site with iWeb?
I was able to open the html in Dreamweaver and paste
it in there but was hoping I could do things like
    that directly in iWeb.
    Thanks,
    Carl

I'm trying to do something similar I think. Below is a post I had on the iDisk formum but maybe someone here can answer it.
    Thanks,
    Norm
"I have a weather station that generates images of weather data every 15 minutes. I am trying to get this to post to our website but I can't seem to get it to work. I'm not sure if I have the path incorrect or what. Our website is hosted at http://homepage.mac.com/kiawahlakes/LakesDepartmentFolder/LakesDepartment/index. html. I have a folder at http://homepage.mac.com/kiawahlakes/LakesDepartmentFolder/LakesDepartment/Weathe r where I have a html file, CurrentVantage_ProPlus.htm, with links to the weather images, which also reside in that folder. If I copy them there directly, the page shows up but I can't seem to get the setting in the WeatherLink software to upload the files to that folder automatically. In the WeatherLink software, it asks for my:
    1) FTP Host:
    2) FTP Logon:
    3) FTP Path:
Can I use my idisk/.Mac account for this since it is asking for FTP not WebDAV? If so, do I use http://homepage.mac.com/ or http://idisk.mac.com as the host? And the Logon would be my .Mac account name, is that correct? And the FTP path would be /kiawahlakes/LakesDepartmentFolder/LakesDepartment/Weather? And should there be the "/" before kiawahlakes and should there be a "/" after Weather?
I'm using Adobe GoLive for the website if that matters at all.

  • Weather widget is inaccurate

The reports are inaccurate between the Dashboard's widget and the iPhone/touch app even tho I fetched the reports a meager second apart. Please see these two screenshots as evidence.
    From iPod touch's app: http://i33.tinypic.com/2eas785.png
    From Dashboard's widget: http://i35.tinypic.com/2r7lfsg.png
This look weak. How about using the same data source for both?

    Virgule wrote:
Thanks you very much for the replies.
Both widgets are pointed at the same station: Quebec, Canada(Quebec)
Unfortunately they are not from the same source. I mean the iPod app fetch from yahoo! while the Dashboard one fetch from accuweather.com. This is what I meant with "the same data source".
I guess there is very little we can do to change this?
And if you check accuweather and yahoo you will no doubt find that the weather stations are in different places.
As I noted before, about NYC, when the report is for NYC it usually means the weather station in the center of Central Park, which is very different from the temperature (and even weather proper) in other parts of NYC.
    I prefer
    http://www.wunderground.com/
which is not used by any widget AFAIK.
However they have local, private operated weather stations all over the place.
    http://www.wunderground.com/weatherstation/index.asp
If you find a pws close to your house, you are all set
    Then there is:
    http:/weather.com has a dashboard widget
    http://www.weather.com/services/desktop.html?from=cclink1
have not tried this one yet.

  • Support for default Weather Application - My city's are changed automatical

I use the default iPhone Weather app to get a sense of a weather forecast for some cities. I noticed that since a week or 2 my hometown is changed to a ciuty a few hundred kilometers further. The same happened to other city's I had listed. They're all changed. I can't find the original cities anymore. The cities that are listed now have airports near them or are located on the coast. I know there are real weather stations in these location.
Is the city database at Yahoo/Weahterchannel changed?!

This is getting stranger! You find Monrovia - but mine didn't.
I've just tried again, and it's found, like yours, Monrovia, CA.
I changed the search to 'Monrovia, Liberia' and I get 'No Results found'.
I've tried putting brackets in - 'Monrovia(Liberia)' - as you did, but again it just gets the CA one..
I wonder how it found it the first time on yours.
Who do you contact to ask about a missing city???

  • Weather in Russia

    Hi,
I tried to use LCD Weather Station widget (KDEmod 4.2). Good for GB and Canada, but hardly anyplace else ... Is there a global source for this widget? Is there an alternate desktop applet/weather feed suited for my needs?

    Hi!
In the AUR you can find for example
    plasma-weatherforecast
    yawp-weather-plasmoid
I'm not sure if they build on KDE 4.2 though...
You'll have to try them out :-D

  • IPhone Weather App defect

Temperature for certain locations are always inaccurate by 20F.
Using the iPhone's weather app, take a look at the temperature for either Big Bear City, CA or Big Bear Lake, CA. Then look at wunderground.com (i.wund.com on your iPhone) or weather.com for the accurate temperature.
Yahoo supplies the weather feed for the iPhone's weather app, so you can also view the defect on the yahoo weather site. Yahoo obtains their weather feed from weather.com, which is accurate, so something in Yahoo's house is creating the defect.
This defect has been present since at least 7-12-2008, notwithstanding several emails to Yahoo and Apple.

i.wund.com (Weather Underground for the iPhone), uses, among other resources, personal weather stations (PWS), though you can exclude those if you wish (Use PWS Locations: select NO).
The issue I was trying to highlight is the accuracy (lack of same, actually) from a native app on the iPhone 3G and the Apple's partner's (Yahoo) data provider's apparent inability or lack of interest in correcting the problem.
I do not know if this 20F issue exists at any other reporting location. These are two adjacent communities in the SoCal mountains, but the native weather app usually reflects some differences in the temperatures of the two communities. Reminder - Yahoo's source (weather.com) shows accurate data on their site, so my conclusion is that Yahoo has elected to allow the defect to continue.

I purchased my G5 last April, and installed Tiger on it. Since installtion of Tiger I have been unable to run WeatherLink 5.01, 5.0.2 or 5.03, even after reinstalling the operating system. The issue is that the software is unable to connect to the Vantage Pro2 weather station via the USB port.

The people who developed the WeatherLink software have run out of answers for me.
    Thanks, John

Sorry this post is so late but I'm only just now setting up a Vantage Pro2 weather station.
You might want to check out a couple of alternatives to WeatherLink, neither of which is written in Java: wview and WeatherTracker. WeatherTracker has promise but is still in beta and has a lot of issues. However, it might be functional enough for you. You can download it through the WeatherTracker forums.
wview is a different animal from WeatherLink and WeatherTracker in that it has no windowed application: it uses your web browser as its display application. The only difficulty is that it's open source, requiring you to download it, build it, and configure it, all from the Terminal. The instructions on the wview web site are pretty good, though, and there's even an OS X-specific quick start page. Since wview is native code and not computationally intensive, the system requirements are pretty low, too: it's running quite well on an old 466 MHz G3 iBook SE (with an Airport card) I had lying around gathering dust, which allows the VP2 console to be located just about anywhere and still used for data logging instead of requiring the purchase of a Wireless Envoy.
You can check out my weather page to get an idea of wview's capabilities. As I write this, I'm using wview's built-in weather station simulator, but I will start using live data hopefully in about a week, pending the arrival of my WeatherLink package (only needed to get the data logger).
