Since apple disabled OS upgradeability on Ipod touch, has an alternate way been made available?

I have an IPod touch, it was running OS 4.3.3
Then I experienced a problem where it failed to boot up normally.
I could not find a solution so I went to the Apple store, there they connected it to their cable and booted it up.
The technician then told me I needed a new cable, that the one I have was/is bad. Believing him I purchased a new cable.
Now I cannot update my IPod back up to OS 4.3.3 and nothing much will run on it.
Also I double checked the old cable later and it seems to be working normally, so I am more suspicious about what was done.
So I am beginning to hate Apple! And like so many other companies out there, I recognize that they do not have my best interest at heart.
I would like to get the 4.3.3 running again in the hope that some of the apps I wanted to use will be functional again, however, it is my experience that Apple continues to upgrade their apps and they install on ones IPod but then fail to run, and prompt for one to upgrade the OS! It is insulting and underhanded that one does not even get a warning of any kind that I am aware of about how new upgrades will eliminate the older functional apps and install current non-functional apps. That in my way of seeing things is a crime.
I am willing to try to get some other OS running on this now useless paper weight as a result. Can you help?
P.S. I had not made a backup of my "blobs" I have heard that if I had that would have saved the day!
Also, the currently functional OS is 4.2.1 (8C148)

The IPod currently has only OS 4.2.1      Before I had the problem it was running OS 4.3.3
The Apple technician got the IPod running again but it was back to the OS 4.2.1 Which It may have come with when I first purchased it.  The thing is, I think I actually paid Apple for the upgrade to OS4.3.3 It was my one and only purchase made via payment. Unfortunately they claim no recognition of that transaction and before they will even look into it further, they require support payment since I no longer have any warranty coverage.
Just to be certain, I downloaded ITunes64Setup.exe 11.1 from
http://www.apple.com/confirm/itunes/thankyou.html
I then reinstalled it.
I then started ITunes and connected the iPod Touch.
The syncing process completed with 7 issues related to not finding various songs and/or music.
When the sync first started where the “iPod is indicated on the tool bar, it showed “2 iPods”
When the sync finished it returned to indicating “iPod”
Under “Check for Update” it indicates that iOS 4.2.1 is the current version.
That of course is false information when compared to the fact that the iPod was running iOS 4.3.3
Before the problem occurred.  Also there were no problems for a fairly long period of time while the iOS 4.3.3 was running.

  • AFTER OS3 UPGRADE, 2GEN IPOD TOUCH HAS NO AUDIO and APPS WON'T OPEN

I installed iTunes 8.2 last week. Today I upgraded my 2gen iPod Touch to OS3 and there is no audio for songs purchased through iTunes. Songs that I have ripped from CDs have audio. Podcasts have audio. Songs I purchased from iTunes are not yet DRM free (I haven't paid yet to do so), so is this something about DRM or a OS3 problem?
Also, apps (from the store) icons appear on the iPod, but will not open when tapped.
I have done reset and restore. Any thoughts would be appreciated. Hope I won't have to wait for Apple to fix this. Thanks for your help.

I actually just had a call with an apple IT person - he had me go to "settings" on my touch, and reset, then "reset all settings".
my volume bar came back and it is now working with all my speakers, in the car, headphones, etc.
    hope this helps.

  • Since I upgraded my iPod Touch 4G, the HDMI connector to my TV (that I bought from Apple) is no longer supported. Can this be corrected in a short period? Thanks

As stated in the title, since I installed iOS6 on my iPod Touch 4G, the HDMI connector that I bought from Apple is no longer supported/recognized...
A bit of a problem, when you buy an accessory to be able to watch videos on any HDMI enabled TV....
Too bad that nobody checked on it before releasing the OS...
Is there a solution to be released soon (like very soon)????

    Sometime the following works.
    - A reset. Nothing is lost
Reset iPod touch: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Restore from backup
    - Restore to factory settings/new iPod.

  • Since upgrading my iPod touch 2nd generation to (4.2.1) it keeps closing itself down and I have great difficulty turning it back on. HELP

since upgrading my iPod touch 2nd generation to (4.2.1) it keeps closing itself down and I have great difficulty turning it back on. HELP

    Hi lllaass,
    unfortunately that didn't work.
I turn my iPod on by using the bottons on the top and the front, I get the apple logo, the iPod comes on, then goes off (battery FULL)
Had no problems until the upgrade !!!!
So sure it's the software and not the iPod itself.
    Thanks

  • I upgraded my iPod Touch 4th Gen yesterday.  Now it won't play music, which is the main thing I use it for.  Over 11,000 songs [it's a 64GB model] -- will I actually have to restore the device and re-add all that music?

I upgraded my iPod Touch 4th Gen yesterday.  Now it won't play music, which is the main thing I use it for.  Over 11,000 songs [it's a 64GB model] -- will I actually have to restore the device and re-add all that music?
[Music files are still there, and I can play them on my computer directly from the iPod [just one track at a time] but not in the usual way, through headphones.]
On the Summary page of iTunes for the iPod, it shows 50-plus gigabytes of "Other" content and no music, which was not previously the case.  I assume this is related to the problem.
I can bring up individual tracks on the iPod and see cover art, but cannot play the music.

iCloud is free, iTunes match is $25 a year.
I had the same problem and when I went to Settings I had 0 songs, even though they were obviously still there since I only had 15GB free on my 64GB device.
I decided to do a complete reset/restore of my 4th gen iPod Touch, Bad move! I've been messing with it for hours, and it simply won't restore--it keeps hanging on a black screen with an Apple logo and a progress bar at about 10%, sometimes it goes completely blank and tries again, with the same result. (I've posted my question/plea for help here: https://discussions.apple.com/message/19735862 )
I'm ready to bang my head against the wall! I can put the device in recovery mode, connect to iTunes on my computer, and get it back to the setup screen, but when I go through the process again and try to do an iCloud backup I get the same reset/restore loop.
I could start from scratch, but I really, really, really don't want to go through all of my hundreds of apps, reinstall them one by one, etc. etc. etc.
I thought that once I started using iCloud, I didn't need to sync with iTunes anymore--guess I was wrong.

  • My iPod touch has been disabled, how to fix it

my iPod Touch has been disabled, how to fix it?  I opened iTunes, can't find "Restore" as suggested by Apple.  Please help.  Thanks.

    Disabled
Place the iOS device in Recovery Mode and then connect to your computer and restore via iTunes. The iPod will be erased.

    iTunes: Restoring iOS software
    To restore from backup see:
    iOS: How to back up
If you restore from iCloud backup the apps will be automatically downloaded. If you restore from iTunes backup the apps and music have to be in the iTunes library since synced media like apps and music are not included in the backup of the iOS device that iTunes makes.
You can redownload most iTunes purchases by:

  • How do I upgrade my iPod touch to IOS 5.0.1 without losing my app data?

I want to upgrade my iPod touch (4.3.3) to IOS 5.0.1, but I don't want to lose my app data (Tiny Tower, etc.)
I transferred all my purchases to the host computer. I also backed up my app data. Before I update the IOS software on my iPod touch, I'd like to find out if the app data on my iPod will be erased as part of the upgrade.
If so, will a restore from backup restore the app data?

  • I can't upgrade my iPod touch (from version 1.1.5)

    Hello there,
Sorry for my english if it's bad.
I have a problem with my very old ipod touch (i got about 2 years ago).
Yesterday i decided that i wanted to download some games and applications to use on my Ipod touch, but after downloading one for free on the app store, i couldn't synch it on my ipod.
I was told that i needed to upgrade my iPod. It had the 1.1.4 version.
So i upgraded it, and it only upgraded it to the 1.1.5 version, which seems to be a very old version.
I do have the latest version of iTunes (version 9.2) but next to the upgrade button, my iTunes tells me that the 1.1.5 version is the latest version, and that it will search for new versions only on the 18.07.2010.
I would very much like to upgrade my ipod touch so that i can use some applications on it, but i just can't, apparently.
Thank you so much for your help, i'm pretty bad with this stuff.
ps: i have a macbook pro that i bought one year ago, so my computer isn't very old either...

iPod Touch 2nd gen 32GB Mac OS 10.6.4
Since I have upgraded to iOS4, I have run into the following problems:
1: Safari crashes on many of my previously favorite websites. They start to load and whamo a back screen and then my home screen returns.
2: Very slow to open most apps. Takes many times as long as previously.
3: Slow wifi. I'm practically sitting on top of my modem and I am getting only one little rainbow bar showing. This happens at other wifi locations too, so it's not a modem incompatibility.
I have erased all of my coockies, history and cache to little avail.
I have restored my iPod from my Mac.
I have erased and re bookmarked my sites.
I'm only using up half of the RAM so its not that.
What else can I do. I love the folders, but this isn't worth it.
    Thank you in advance.

  • Upgraded my iPod touch to iOS5. How do I get my music back?

Using my MacBook Pro, I just upgraded my iPod Touch to iOS5 and it erased all the content on my iPod. Now how do I get the content back onto the iPod?

Thanks for your help, but I found an easier way: Since I have about 3000 songs, a few videos and a few audiobooks, it would have taken me forever to move each item one by one. So instead, I just dragged the content categories from the iTunes library into the iPod content catgories and it worked like a charm. Thanks again for pointing me in the right direction.
