Since applying Feb 2013 Sharepoint 2010 CUs - Critical event log entries for Blob cache and missing images

Hi,
Since applying the February 2013 SharePoint 2010 updates, we are getting lots of entries in our event logs along the following:
Content Management     Publishing Cache
5538     Critical
An error occurred in the blob cache.  The exception message was 'The system cannot find the file specified. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80070002)’
In pretty much all of these cases the image/ file in question that is reported in the ULS logs as missing is not actually in the collaboration site, master page / html etc so the fix needs to go back to the site owner to make the correction to avoid
the 404 (if they make it!). This has only started happening, I believe since feb 2013 sp2010 cumulative updates updates
I didn’t see this mentioned as a change / in the Fix list of the February updates. i.e. it flags up a critical error in our event logs. So with a lot of sites and a lot of missing images your event log can quickly fill up.
Obviously you can suppress them in the monitoring -> web content management ->publishing cache = none & none which is not ideal.
So my question is... are others seeing this and was a change made by Microsoft to flag a 404 missing image / file up a critical error in event log when blob cache is enabled?
If i log this with MS they will just say, you need to fix it up the missing files in the site but would be nice to know this had changed prior! I also deleted and recreated the blob cache and this made no diffference
thanks
Brad

I'm facing the same error on our SharePoint 2013 farm. We are on Aug 2013 CU and if the Dec CU (which is supposed to be the latest) doesn't solve it then what else could be done.
Some users started getting the message "Server is busy now try again later" with a corelation id. I looked up ULS with that corelation id and found these two errors in addition to hundreds of "Micro Trace Tags (none)" and "forced
due to logging gap":
"GetFileFromUrl: FileNotFoundException when attempting get file Url /favicon.ico The system cannot find the file specified. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80070002)"
"Error in blob cache. System.IO.FileNotFoundException: The system cannot find the file specified. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80070002)"
"Unable to cache URL /FAVICON.ICO.  File was not found"
Looks like this is a bug and MS hasn't fixed it in Dec CU..

Ever since I updated to Yosemite my mac book pro keeps asking for Apple Id and password but will not accept them.  What can I do?

Try the advice here. I had the same problem and it worked for me.
You have to delete the "SC Info" folder from /Users/Shared. You will have to use Terminal to enable you to see this folder first. Make sure iTunes is not running when you delete the "SC Info" folder
There is an article from Apple on this here. The "SC Info" folder contains iTunes authorization information.
I did this two weeks ago and iTunes accepted by login. I haven't been asked for my AppleID or password since.

  • LYNC 2013 Event Logging Parameters for LYNC server logs

    Hi,
We have LYNC server 2013 enterprise voice. We have third party Monitoring server to monitor the event logging.
Do we have default event logging parameters for LYNC Server logs in LYNC 2013?
    Thanks
    jitender

There's really just the default level of logging for Lync Server Event Logs.  For individual call troubleshooting you might use the debug logger, and for longer term troubleshooting you'd deploy the Lync Monitoring role.  The monitoring role, service
status, and performance monitor counters are what you really want to be monitoring if you're watching your Enterprise Voice deployment.
If I understand the question, there isn't a way to turn up the amount of logs generated in the Lync event logs or change parameters around this.

On 10/17/08, I updated my wireless ThinkPad 11abgn driver from version 6.0.3.94 to 7.4.2.105.  The update was a nice improvement as I now connect faster than with the older driver.  However, although no impact to my T60 performance, ever since the new driver was installed, the following has occurred:
    1. A new entry in the Event Viewer called ACS
    2. Multiple "ccxroaming" entries are generated every time my laptop comes out of standby (anywhere from 4 to 7 entries each time!)
    3. Since 10/17/08, I have generated 951 ACS events!!
For example, this morning, after coming out of standby (AC mode), the following entries were generated from oldest to newest:

I downgraded upower, and it didn't fix the problem, so I re-upgraded it and built/installed xfce4-power-manager-git. It's now reporting the correct battery level but the systray icon is missing (replaced by the 'blank screen' icon).
EDIT: in fact, no, it's still not reporting correctly.

  • SharePoint 2010 - Claims Based Authentication - Access Denied for AD Group members

We're in the process of migrating our SharePoint 2003 system to 2010 and have used Metavis to migrate the data. We had to do the data migration in a lab environment and then move/attach the content database to our production server. The database attached successfully
and I, as a site collection administrator, can see all sites and the data therein. We are using claims-based auth with ADFS 2.0 as the provider.
My users, however, get access denied trying to go anywhere on the site. I have added the Active Directory groups to the appropriate SharePoint groups and have confirmed the groups are appearing with the c:0-.t|adfs|group_name syntax. If I add them as individual
users (i:05.t|adfs|[email protected]) they can authenticate fine, but not by AD group membership.
I enabled ADFS tracing and I see that the claim being provided includes the SIDs for all the groups the user belongs to. Using ULS Viewer I can see that SharePoint sees the correct number of claims (it doesn't show what those claims are, just the number) but
it doesn't seem to be connecting the SIDs passed to the group name used in the permissions list. I have also updated the portalsuperreader and portalsuperuser accounts after the database was moved, just in case there was something weird there.
The ADFS and SharePoint servers are all in the same AD domain, so they should be able to resolve SIDs ok. I suspect the issue is somehow related to the migration of the content database from a separate
environment (different domain), but I can't figure out for the life of me how to get the group authentication to work.
    Thoughts?

Brilliant idea. Unfortunately that didn't work - I can get to the new site as the site collection owner, but members of groups to which I assigned permissions still get Access Denied. :-(

  • Sharepoint 2010 - Error while running Configuration wizard for SP 2010 server farm

    Hi All,
I am trying to set up a SP 2010 farm. I have windows server 2008 R2 installed and was able to install SP 2010 successfully. However when I ran the Sp 2010 Products and configuration wizard I am getting the following error at Step 3.

  • SP 2013 Client Object Model: What credentials to use for Office 365 and sites behind ADFS 3.0?

I'm using the SharePoint 2013 Client Object Model to access a site that is either in Office 365 or behind an ADFS 3.0 login screen, is it sufficient to use the new SharePointOnlineCredentials credentials
or do I need other types of credentials for the sites behind ADFS 3.0 ? Is so, what type of credentials would I use for the sites behind ADFS 3.0?
using (ClientContext ctx = new ClientContext(siteUrl))
    ctx.Credentials = new SharePointOnlineCredentials("some user", "a secure string password");
    while (ctx.HasPendingRequest)
    ctx.ExecuteQuery();
    // etc.

    Hi,
According to your post, my understanding is that you want to know the ways to get credential either in Office 365 or sites behind ADFS 3.0.
For Office 365, you can use SharePointOnlineCredentials Object to get credential. For SharePoint sites behind ADFS 3.0, you can use NetworkCredential Object:
    ctx.Credentials = new NetworkCredential(UserName, Password, Domain);
The link below will provide more information about using the ADFS FedAuth Token programmatically through the SharePoint Client Object Model:

    Hi Parvez,
According to the error message, I understand that the Event error 10009 is received on DC. Please correct me if there is any misunderstand.
To solve this issue, please follow the steps below:
    a. Please ensure that the remote computer is online.
    b. This problem maybe the result of a firewall blocking the connection.
    c. Other reasons for the problem might be found in the Extended RPC error information that is available in Event Viewer.
More details in the following article:

  • Users are unable to expand a list when a filter is applied in SharePoint 2010 site

There are set of users facing issues while filtering the contents in the SP2010 site since the migration to SharePoint 2010. It is no longer possible to expand a list when a filter is applied.
When open a fresh browser the filter does work, but if we perform an edit or save in the list, the filtering option disappears for the entire site.
Then we need to forcefully close all the active browsers and start a new browser to see the list. Have checked with different browsers and different machines ended up with the same issue. Could you please suggest a workaround for the problem? Thank you.

  • SharePoint 2010 100% cpu w3wp.exe after windows server update desember 2013

    Hi
Using SharePoint 2010 with 2 frontend webservers and 1 appserver:
Our ApplicationPool for our portal workerprocess has for a second time gone up to and stuck on 99% CPU on one of our 2 frontend webservers.
What happens is that this server falls out of the NLB cluster, and the only way to get it back is to log onto the server and through task manager stop the worker process (w3wp). We checked to see what the applicationPool was, and it was for the portal site.
The first time it happened was just after the installation of the following windows server patches: Actuall on the very same day. The patches were installed on the early morning of the 18th december 2013.
The event id for the spesific events show:
18.12.2013 14:45 Event id 7011, Service Control manager:
A timeout (30000 milliseconds) was reached while waiting for a transaction response from the VMTools service.
    and
09.01.2014 08:36 Event id 7011 Service Control Manager
A timeout (30000 milliseconds) was reached while waiting for a transaction response from the UmRdpService service.
In adition there are a lot of random:
    Event id 105, Warning: NLB:
NLB cluster []: Timer starvation has been detected. This might be due to a denial of service attack or a very high server load. During this period, some connections might fail. If this problem recurs frequently, analyze the threat and take appropriate measures
and/or add more servers to the cluster. An informational event log entry will be logged when the attack has subsided.
I'm suspecting that this was caused because of one of the updates, allthough the "Event id 105", Warning: NLB did exist prior to the patch updates, but would only appear once every 2-3 weeks. After December 18 2013 these "Event id 105"
messages appear about 6-11 times a day!
any one seen something like it?
    I see microsoft: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/922918/eng
Event 7011, has a workaround to increase the default time-out value for the service to for example 60 seconds instead of 30. Would this be a good solution?
    brgs
    Bjorn

    Hi ,
For the temp solution u can do app pool recycle or iisreset when the cpu usage goes 100%.
And check which worker processor is consuming that much memory and checked related to that web application.

  • What needs to be done to rebuild a current Sharepoint 2010 Server farm to work as a Sharepoint 2013 Server farm?

    Hello Community
Currently I have a Sharepoint 2010 Server farm.
One server contains the database and DNS server
because it is the the domain controller.
The other server Contains the Sharepoint 2010 Server software
and is the the application server where applications such as Metadata,
UPs, etc, reside (including web applications with sites built with the UI).
Now I am going to change to Sharepoint 2013 Server because currently
there is no newer version of Sharepoint available.
I am ready to rebuild the current Sharepoint 2010 farm configuration into
a Sharepoint 2013 Server farm from scratch.
The question  is what do needs to be added and\or changed to make the current
Sharepoint 2010 Server farm configuration work as a Sharepoint 2013 Server farm?
        Thank you
        Shabeaut

There is no direct in-place uprade method for SharePoint 2010 to 2013. You need to create a new SharePoint 2013 farm from scratch and attach service and content databases to upgrade them. Check out Upgrade
to SharePoint 2013 for more information about the process.
If you have another server, you would install SharePoint 2013 on this. If you don't, you'll need to remove SharePoint 2010 from your existing server and then install SharePoint 2013. Check out Hardware
and software requirements for SharePoint 2013 before starting to make sure your server meets the minimum requirements for SharePoint 2013:
Web server or application server in a three-tier farm
Pilot, user acceptance test, or production deployment of SharePoint Server 2013 or SharePoint Foundation 2013.

  • How do you migrating a SharePoint 2010 BI PerformancePoint site to a newly built SharePoint 2013 site?

    Hi All,
I need help in migrating a SharePoint 2010 BI PerformancePoint site to a newly built SharePoint 2013 site on another server. The SharePoint 2010 BI Performance Point site has mainly Analytic graphs and charts that work perfectly within the SP 2010 environment
but do not work within the SP 2013 environment. When I open the graphs and charts within Dashboard Designer I get a ‘cannot access the data source’ error message. The problem I am having is there is no way I can edit the graphs and charts to use a newly created
data source on the SP 2013 site.
    I hope you can help
    Colin

Just been going through all this with a client.
Make sure that you either migrate the Secure Store using the Database Attach method (You'll need the farm passphrase to do this), or ensure that you recreate any Secure Store groups required for users to access the data sources.
If you're not using the Secure Store for access to the data, try monitoring the SQL logs on the target data stores and looking for login failures. The PerformancePoint service account(Or the excel unattended account) may required access to the
    data store.
Also, if you're using PowerPivot, be aware that your Excel files will need to be created in Excel 2013 with the PowerPivot 2013 add-in in order for manual refresh (Or refresh on open) to work.
    Paul.

There could be multiple reasons for this, one possible reason is that your application pool account does not have full permissions to read the complete site collection.
Identify your web apps' app pool account using inetmgr
    Login to central site administration
Go to Application management > Policy for web application
Choose the web application where the inaccessible site collection exists
Add a full control policy for the app pool account
    Try below command:
    $wa = Get-SPWebApplication -Identity "http://intranet.mysite.com"
    $wa.Properties["portalsuperuseraccount"] = "i:0#.w|pro1766\sp_superuser_cache" $wa.Properties["portalsuperreaderaccount"] = "i:0#.w|pro1766\sp_superreader_cache"
    $wa.Update()

  • Citrix Netscaler AppXpert with Sharepoint 2010 Page Edit Issue

Posting this as a questions and discussion point.
The issue is in using Citrix Netscaler with AppXpert with SharePoint 2010. I've seen this issue for two customers.
    Configurations:
    - Citrix Netscaler as the load Balancer
    - Netscaler AppXpert for SharePoint deployed on Netscaler (using either AppXpert version 1.1 or 2.0)
    - SharePoint 2010 Standard or Enterprise editions
    Issue:
A SharePoint user with appropriate rights go to a SharePoint page. They choose Edit page, make changes and want to save changes. At this point all SharePoint ribbon options on the top are greyed out. End result, users are not able to make changes to their
site pages. Issue happens for everyone including Farm Admins.
    Cases:
    a. The users are able to edit and save SharePoint wiki pages if I point user's PC to the SharePoint web server WFE by changing their local host file.
    b. On Citrix Netscaler, if I use the traditional load balancing i.e. without Citrix AppXpert, then the users are able to edit and save the pages. That is an option if the customer is using SharePoint 2010 Standard. That is not an option if a customer is
using InfoPath forms. InfoPath is a feature of SharePoint 2010 Enterprise edition. Citrix AppXpert for SharePoint is needed to make the InfoPath work. Else the users get session errors when they use InfoPath Web forms.
    c. The issue happens on almost all combination of OS and browser. XP, vista, Win 7, Win8, Win8.1, IE8, 9, 10, 11 and other browsers like chrome etc as well.
Please share your ideas and suggestions.

    Hi Faisal,
As I understand, the issue will be solved when end users directly connect to SharePoint WFE servers. Since the issue is related to third party products, I'd recommend you contact their support engineer for sufficient resource and assistance. For your convenience:
