SharePoint 2010 100% cpu w3wp.exe after windows server update desember 2013

Hi
Using SharePoint 2010 with 2 frontend webservers and 1 appserver:
Our ApplicationPool for our portal workerprocess has for a second time gone up to and stuck on 99% CPU on one of our 2 frontend webservers.
What happens is that this server falls out of the NLB cluster, and the only way to get it back is to log onto the server and through task manager stop the worker process (w3wp). We checked to see what the applicationPool was, and it was for the portal site.
The first time it happened was just after the installation of the following windows server patches: Actuall on the very same day. The patches were installed on the early morning of the 18th december 2013.
The event id for the spesific events show:
18.12.2013 14:45 Event id 7011, Service Control manager:
A timeout (30000 milliseconds) was reached while waiting for a transaction response from the VMTools service.
and
09.01.2014 08:36 Event id 7011 Service Control Manager
A timeout (30000 milliseconds) was reached while waiting for a transaction response from the UmRdpService service.
In adition there are a lot of random:
Event id 105, Warning: NLB:
NLB cluster []: Timer starvation has been detected. This might be due to a denial of service attack or a very high server load. During this period, some connections might fail. If this problem recurs frequently, analyze the threat and take appropriate measures
and/or add more servers to the cluster. An informational event log entry will be logged when the attack has subsided.
I'm suspecting that this was caused because of one of the updates, allthough the "Event id 105", Warning: NLB did exist prior to the patch updates, but would only appear once every 2-3 weeks. After December 18 2013 these "Event id 105"
messages appear about 6-11 times a day!
any one seen something like it?
I see microsoft: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/922918/eng
Event 7011, has a workaround to increase the default time-out value for the service to for example 60 seconds instead of 30. Would this be a good solution?

Hi ,
For the temp solution u can do app pool recycle or iisreset when the cpu usage goes 100%.
And check which worker processor is consuming that much memory and checked related to that web application.

  • InDesign CS6 crashes at startup after windows 7 update

InDesign crashes at startup after windows 7 update: Faulting module path: C:\Windows\system32\MSVCR100.dll (Microsoft Visual C runtime and update KB2538243 and KB2565063)
    Reinstalling did not help
Also Adobe Encore CS6 seems to be affected

I looked at the recovery files in:
    C:\Users\MyName\AppData\Local\Adobe\InDesign\Version 8.0\en_US\Caches\InDesign
I deleted all the files and Indesign started up fine.  feeling good I closed Indesign and restarted.
    Indesign Crashed again.
Deleted all files again and reloaded.
I went to "Edit:Preferences:File Handling:Document Recovery Data"  to:
    G:\Adobe\Indesign\Cache\Recovery
Interestingly, the Indesign application recovery files still reside in the user directory above.   But the document recovery data moves to the G drive above.
There is no clear reason why Indesign quit loading today.  It worked fine since initial installation last year.  But separating the document recovery data from the application recovery data seems to fix the problem for now.

  • Firefox does not open after Windows 7 updates

After Windows 7 updates installed, Firefox 4.0.1 refuses to start. I click on the shortcut, the hourglass (blue circle in Windows 7) pops up for a couple of seconds, then it goes away, and no Firefox.
    Chrome and IE work fine.
I have followed the tips on the "Firefox won't start" pages.
In Task Manager, there is a 4,796k Firefox process, which I then end. If I attempt to start Firefox multiple times, I get different processes in Task Manager, of different sizes.
I removed and re-installed Firefox 4.0.1. It made no difference. I even chose to have it delete all my customizations. No luck.
I cannot start Firefox in Safe Mode. When I try, the same thing happens (hourglass, then nothing)
I cannot start the Profile Manager. I created a new user in Windows, logged in as that user, and tried starting Firefox, but the same thing happened. This leads me to believe that it is not a profile issue.
I do not get a crash report.
    Thank you for your help!

Which Windows 7 updates were installed? Were these rated as "Critical"?
Microsoft usually releases updates on 'Patch Tuesday' which always takes place on the second Tuesday of the month. That won't take place for another two weeks yet. I'm not aware of any out-of-band updates.

  • Black screen after windows auto update

New laptop in use for 3 weeks.  After Windows auto update restart I get to splash screen and am able to enter Windows password to log onto desktop.  After successfully entering password I am not able to view my desktop; I get the black screen with cursor function; cursor disappears when moved within an inch of left or right of screen (seems to go behind something).  I believe I am at the desktop but just not able to view it, because I receive app popups on the black screen (need to update McAfee, etc).
In safe mode I restored to pre auto update date; manually installed all Windows updates;  worked fine until NEXT auto update, same problem.
Graphics Card:  Stock Intel HD Graphics
    Monitor:  Generic PnP
Why would it be fine with the manual update and not after auto update?
I do not have an external monitor to attach this laptop for diagnosis.  I have run windows partition checks and hard drive partition checks with no issues to resolve.
I did get an error message once when running a diagnosis (can't remember which) : Windows Update Error 0x80070490
No real luck finding anyway for me (the average Joe) to resolve this issue.
If this is a harddrive issue I don't want to keep pussyfooting around while my warranty window shrinks.
I have downloaded driver updates from HP, but cannot get the Synaptics Touchpad driver to download.  I don't think this is my issue though.
I am going to manually update all my drivers then manually update Windows.  We will see what happens on the next auto update.
Please advise if this is an issue I need to just give up on and return this laptop for replacement.  It seems like this is not a completely unheard of issue, but I'm shocked at what we are asked to do to attempt to resolve it.  Out of my depth.

    Hi @Justanothermom
Welcome to the HP Support Forums!
I understand that you are having troubles with a black screen after an update. I am happy to help you with this.
Firstly, there is nothing wrong with modifiying your update settings. I was going to suggest it myself as I read through your post, and then saw you ask the question. Sometimes updates can have unintended results by the creator. With all the different combinations of  hardware, and the fact that updates come from different sources, it is one of those things that is hard to completely control.
Please see the following for how to make adjustments to your update settings.
Turn automatic updating on or off - windows.microsoft.com
Or if you know which update seems to be causing the issue you can take a look at this page:

  • Window Server Update Patches

Is there any known issues that effect Oracle Databases( 8i, 9i or 10g) when applying Windows Server updates? We are trying to be cautious. Thanks!

I don't know any issues. Anyway is good praxis to do this jobs and upgrades first on test machines (or environments) and to do a database backup before that you begin with such works on production.

  • I am getting a service start and stop alert while doing the windows server updates.

    HI
I am getting a service start and stop alert while doing the windows server updates. Services are wmiApSrv , WPDBusEnum. Can you please help me to under stand why i am getting the service start and stop alert.
    Thanks & Regards
    Abhilash K Joy

    Hi,
The WMI Performance Adapter (wmiApSrv) service provides performance library information from Windows Management Instrumentation (WMI) providers to clients on the network. This service only runs when Performance Data Helper is activated.
This service is installed by default and its startup type is Manual. When started in the default configuration it will log on using the Local System account.
You can try troubleshooting the issue using Clean Boot to check if the issue is related to third-party software.

  • Browser based InfoPath Forms in SharePoint 2010 performance has slowed down after SharePoint 2010 SP2

    hi All,
Our Browser based Infopath forms have slowed down drastically after applying SharePoint 2010 SP2. Prior to this, we had SharePoint 2010 SP1 and the timings was around 10 seconds (single user) for the entire infopath form to be displayed which has 10-12
views and 5 data connections and 15 business rules and around 100 fields.
But now after applying sharepoint 2010 sp2, the performance has slowed down and it now takes for a single user around 50 seconds.
Refer to the link below, which we followed by applying the patch as well, but the performance is still the same very slow.
    http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/sharepoint/en-US/0b673324-01c4-49f7-86cb-647aa43fefd6/infopath-browser-forms-extremely-slow-after-service-pack-2-upgrade?forum=sharepointadminprevious
We have raised a ticket with Microsoft, but there is no concrete resolution as to what component of the infopath has made the form rendering and display slow.
Can someone point me to the right resource or knowledge base where i can do a kind of debug, which tells me exactly which infopath dlls are the issue or which part of my form is taking more time. I am using AOLPageTest and Fiddler, but they do not give me
any details where exactly is the bottleneck.
Any tools that give me the details of the bottleneck.
Thanks and appreciate your help in this.
    Regards
    Ram
    Thanks Ram

    hi inderjeet,
The application has gone live and its on production, the same application is on pre-prod and UAT, system testing and integration environments.
The infopath form used to work very well on all these environments before we installed sharepoint 2010 sp2. but the moment we installed sharepoint 2010 sp2, the infopath forms have slowed down.
Microsoft has acknowledged that there is an issued with sharepoint 2010 sp2 and infopath form performance, but they are not able to provide an appropriate fix on this.
We have another environment where there is no sharepoint 2010 sp2 applied only sp1 is applied and the infopath form works very well within fraction of seconds.
So your point no. 1 and 2 and 3. does not reveal anything. Fiddler does not give any detailed component by component breakup where the time is taking more.
The form used to work very well before we applied sp2.
I want to know a tool that gives me exactly component by component grant chart kind of breakup of time taken when the infopath url is requested on the browser.
    Thanks
    ram

  • Error reading memory - W3WP.exe after running rpt

We have a few reports that are causing memory errors to occur. This is under Windows Server 2003 using CR 2008. The reports are exported from a Windows application to .rpt files. These are then displayed using the Report Viewer from a .Net web app. Most of the reports we generate run fine but there are about 6 that are causing these errors. The problem .rpts do display fine when viewing the report using the VS CR designer.
The scenario for report 'X' is that I can display a number or reports without a problem and the first time I display report 'X' it also is correct. The next report I attempt to display after report 'X' pops up the error on W3WP.exe...The instruction at "0x7c81bb72" referenced memory at "0x30303030". The memory could not be "read". The event log after this shows...
Faulting application w3wp.exe, version 6.0.3790.3959, faulting module ntdll.dll, version 5.2.3790.4789, fault address 0x0002bac2.
I have tried a number of combinations for displaying reports but the error always occurs after running report 'X'. As a side note the same reports causing these problems have also been tested in CR2010 on Windows Server 2008 - 64 bit and they also have problems there. In that case we are getting the Event ID 4353 - KeycodeDecoder.dll error in the event log which I have seen in other posts.
Any ideas on what to look for in the problem reports? What other info can I supply?
    Thank you.
    - David

What CR Service pack are you on? You should be on SP3:
    https://smpdl.sap-ag.de/~sapidp/012002523100007123572010E/cr2008_sp3.exe
Do you see the issue on your dev computer or after you deploy?
    Create a new simple web app;
    viewer
    code; CrystalReportViewer1.Reportsource = <path to report"
Does the test app reproduce the issue? If it does, would you be able to share the report?

  • Sharepoint 2010 Can't be accessed after becoming a domain controller

Hi! I have installed Sharepoint 2010 on Windows server 2008 R2, which is was working fine until I became a domain controller. My computer name was changed to "originalname.mydomain.com" . Then,
I also renamed my original name to something else. So, the full name is completely new!
I used all sort of available solutions, such as:
    Rename-SPServer [-Identity] <OriginalServerName> -Name <NewServerName>
    AND
    stsadm -o renameserver -oldservername <oldServerName> -newservername -<newServerName>
using Powershell, but both are giving me this error:
The '<' operator is reserved for future use.
    At line:1 char:40 + stsadm -o renameserver -newservername < <<<< DC.DAVOKA.COM> -oldservername <w
    in-eli768388rh>     + CategoryInfo          : ParserError: (<:OperatorToken) [], ParentContain
       sErrorRecordException     + FullyQualifiedErrorId : RedirectionNotSupported
Moreover, all my SQL services are running.
    Thanks in advance!

I would have though that running IIS on a domain controller is going to be full of problems, IIS by it's nature allows anonymous access, not something you want on a domain controller.  Unless you are seriously limited on hardware, I would keep them
    separate.
Renaming SharePoint servers after installation also brings up a handle of problems, there are resources on Technet on how to do it as well as various posts in this forum, the over-riding recommendation is decide on the server names before you install and
    then stick to them.
Check out these resources regarding installing SharePoint on a domain controller, looks like there are a few things to consider.

  • Sharepoint 2010 Report viewer Parameters disappear after selected

    Hi,
I have Sharepoint 2010 installed and pointing to a different SQL Server 2012 in Sharepoint integrated mode.
In Sharepoint if I create a new report using report builder or if I add one from reporting services server, when I execute it, it shows the parameters on the right side. When I open the list the values are ok, then if I select one of them the page do a postback
and the selected parameter value disappears and I can never run the report because if I hit Apply it gives an error saying that the parameter is not set.
If I change the report and set default value for each parameter it works well. I can change the parameters and they work great, but I don't want to set the default values and let the user choose them.
Sharepoint server is SQL Server 2012 version 11.0.3368.0
Reporting server is SQL Server 2012 11.0.3000.0

  • Sharepoint 2007 and SQL 2008 SP3 on Windows Server 2008 Enterprise SP2 (64-bit)

Is there any documentation we can check if SQL 2008 SP3 is compatible with Sharepoint 2007 SP2 or SP3? Both Sharepoint and SQL servers are running on separate Virtual machines (Windows Server 2008 Enterprise SP2(64-bit)). Currently DB is running on
SQL server 2008 SP2, and we would like to have SP3 loaded on it, but want to find if there is any compatibility issue?
    Thanks in advance!
    mh

I'm not aware of any known issues with SQL Server 2008 SP3 and SharePoint 2007. I did a quick check and saw one person reporting an issue with their Central Admin site after applying the SQL Server update, but that's it.
With that being said, I would strongly encourage you to test out the application of that SQL Server service pack in a non-production environment well before you apply it in production. There is always a chance that your environment has something set up in
it that would cause an unexpected issue, and the best way to get an idea of whether or not an issue exists is by doing it somewhere else first before you do it in prod.
