Since switching to firefox my hotmail spell check is switched off how do I activate it

I have recently switched to firefox and my spell check on hotmail is not now working - I believe the two events are linked

* You can see which dictionary is selected if you right-click in a text area and open the Languages submenu.
* Open the "Add Dictionaries" link to install a dictionary if you do not have one.
* Make sure that [X] "Check Spelling" in the right-click context menu is check-marked.
You can enable or disable spell checking globally:
* Tools > Options > Advanced : General: Browsing: "Check my spelling as I type"

• Why does Spell Check not stay enabled, how do I fix it?

Every time Firefox closed, the spell check does the same thing? I want to enable it, and for it to stabilize with Firefox, and other software that it has worked with in the past.

then try the basic troubleshooting steps recommended in the manual:  restart, reset, restore from backup, restore as new.

I want to listen to itunes through my 5.1 amp thru apple tv but the sound stops when when my television is switched off how can I stop this?
All I want to be on is my PC and my amp connected thru ATV via optical linkl

Welcome to the Apple Community.
Yes there have been a number of reports posted about this, it seems different people experience different results here with some finding the same as you, some finding that it won't work at all with the TV turned off and some finding that if music is sent from iTunes on the mac/pc that as long as the TV is on when the stream starts, the TV can be turned off afterwards.
My assumption here is that it depends on the TV itself, although that probably doesn't help all that much.

• Firefox Built-In Spell Checker

I installed Firefox from 'Pacman' today and it works great. It's currenlty 3.5.7 and noticed that when I am typing and mis-spell obvious words, it does not underline them in red as Firefox would on any other distribution. I made sure I have the option selected in Firefox that say's "Check My Spelling As I Type" however it does not appear to be working. Am I missing a package or 'Add-on' for this to work?

Hello
Do you have the dictionnary for the language you are writting in?

• Spell Check in New Forums- How The Heck does it work?

Can somebody please tell me how the spell check works in this new forum format? I click on the abc icon and it does nothing. I do a two finger click on a word that is misspelled and it give me Insert Options. I really like the new format but hate the spell check. Can anyone offer advise? Thanks.

The built-in ASC spell checker is -- to put it kindly -- quirky. First, you must turn it on using the 'abc' tool on the right in the editor toolbar. (When it's on, it highlights.) But it won't stay turned on if you click on the tool before you enter any text -- it will just tell you that no misspellings were found & won't stay on. It also sometimes fails to check the last word if followed by a space. You can tell it to ignore misspellings, but you can't tell it to learn words because the spell-checking dictionary is actually on the servers running the site, not on your Mac or PC.
But from your remarks, you probably aren't even using the built-in checker. Instead, I suspect you are trying to use the far superior system-wide one built into OS X. The problem with that is the ASC editing tools are powered by Javascript supplied by the Jive SBS software running the site. Because that is platform independent it doesn't know anything about OS X's contextual menu (which includes suggestions for misspellings, the Dictionary lookup, & so on).
So to make a long story short, what happens when you try to right click on a word the OS X checker has underlined in red, instead you get the Javascript's response to a right click, which brings up the editor's insert/alignment popup menu instead of the OS X contextual menu.
The solution is to control click on the word -- believe it or not, within the ASC editor window a right click & a control click are not the same thing! You literally have to hold down the control key on the keyboard when you click to bypass the Javascript's right click response.
To make things that much more confusing, this only applies if the pointer is not over empty space in the editor window, which in this case excludes lines that have any text on them, including invisible text like spaces or returns. (To see what I mean, drag the tab at the bottom right of the editor window down so there is a lot of empty space below what you have typed. In this empty area, right & control clicks both bring up the OS X contextual menu, but anywhere in the text you have typed, they behave differently.)
In short, the problem is not that Apple has changed how the buttons or clicks work, it is that the new software that runs the site (not developed by Apple) does.
Hope this helps.

• "Learn" button in Spell Check is disabled. How to enable it?

If I go to check selection or document spelling under the Edit bar while in a word processing document, my only options are Replace, Check (I have no idea what that means), Skip, and Cancel. Learn is there, but it is not an option.
On my iMac home, this was not an issue. Learn was enabled.
On this iBook G4 10.4.11 (Appleworks 6.2.4), it is not the case, and it is driving me nuts (I'm living in South America, writing in English, but with the same Spanish cities names and foods coming up as errors every time they are written).
CHORIZO IS A WORD!!! Please teach me how to teach my Appleworks this.
Thanks.

Hi Frederick,
You wrote:
"My problem now, is that I have to open up writing tools and choose the user dictionary every time I open AppleWorks. As soon as I quit the app. it goes back to main dictionary as a default setting. If I don't do it every time I open a document to work on, choosing spellcheck causes a crash. This is new mis-behavior for AppleWorks, that I have never encountered before. Is there a way to make the user dictionary the default? (If that is what's causing this)."
I doubt that "that is what's causing this."
What you are describing is, I suspect, normal behaviour. Try this:
Open an AppleWorks word processor document (new or existing)
Go Edit > Writing Tools > Select Dictionaries...
In the Select Dictionaries dialogue you will see the Main Dictionary radio button highlighted.
Click the radio button for User dictionary.
Click Done to close the dialogue.
Immediately go Edit > Writing Tools > Select Dictionaries...
When the dialogue opens, the Main Dictionary radio button will be highlighted. *This is normal*.
AppleWorks uses two spelling dictionaries. One is a Main dictionary, the other is a User dictionary. Both, when selected, become the 'default' spelling dictionary, and remain so. You must have a Main dictionary installed to use spell checking. A User dictionary is optional, and needed only if you want AppleWorks if you use words that are not included in whichever Main dictionary you have installed, and want those words to be recognized as being correctly spelled. (Example: If you regularly use your last name—Martello—in AppleWorks documents, you might want to include it in your User dictionary to let AppleWorks recognize it as a correctly spelled word.)
When you check spelling, AppleWorks first looks for a match for each word in whatever Main dictionary you have installed/selected. If it does not find a match there, AppleWorks checks for a match in whatever User dictionary you have installed/selected. When AppleWorks finds a match in either dictionary, it stops checking, moves to the next word in the document, and repeats the process. If the word is not found in either dictionary, AppleWorks displays it in the Spelling window as a "Questionable spelling", and offers a list of possible correct spellings.
Peggy's point regarding deleting the preferences files is well taken. Corrupted preferences are a likely cause of the problem you describe.

Barry

Let's set a static IP address for the printer:
- Print a Network Config Page from the front of the printer. Note the printer's IP address.
- Type that IP address into a browser to reveal the printer's internal settings.
- Choose the Networking tab, then Wireless along the left side, then the IPv4 tab.
- On this screen you want to set a Manual IP. You need to set an IP address outside the range that the router automatically sets (called the DHCP range). You can find the DHCP range of the router using its internal settings page or in its manual. Use the CD that came with your router or type the router's IP address (ends in .1) into a browser.
- Use 255.255.255.0 for the subnet (unless you know it is different, if so, use that)
- Enter your router's IP (on the Network Config Page) for the gateway and first DNS. Leave the second one blank.
- Click 'Apply'.
Now, shut down the router and printer, start the router, wait, then start the printer.
After this you may need to redo 'Add a Printer' using the new IP address.

I Brought my IPhone through my friend in Singapore a year half back now my phone is switched off there are lot of battery life left how do i service this phone when i called service center in Bangalore they mentioned i will have to get in touch with Apple direct.

You purchase an airline ticket and get a hotel room and you fly to Singaport and take it to an Apple repair site. I'd suggest you make an appointment before you go. Or you send it to a friend or relative and have them take it in for service.
Apple will not accept shipped iPhones from another country for service.

• I was updating my iphone 4s and suddenly my  screen switched off how do? i fix the problem i need help with it seriously

I was updating my iphone 4s software then i opened a new application when the screen froze and it went black but everything else is functional, please help me fix this problem.

Hey there xybuk,
It sounds like your screen is black but otherwise indicates that it is on. I recommend the troubleshooting steps from the article named:
iPhone: Hardware troubleshooting
http://support.apple.com/kb/ts2802
Toggle the ringer switch to see if the unit vibrates. If it does, it could be that iPhone is getting power, but is not displaying any image.
Try turning iPhone off and then on again.
While connected to the iPhone charger, try to reset the iPhone.
My issue is still not resolved. What do I do next?

• Firefox 14.0.1 has a spell checking error./ bug in the code

I just had all my machines update to 14.0.1 (WIN XP SP3)
I had a clean boot right before the update occurred.
This is the first time I had used this version on this machine.
When the program came up, I had no access to the spell checker at all. Nothing I did could change this (checking and un-checking the feature in the right click menu.
So, I selected the option of restarting the browser in "SAFE MODE" with no add-ons. There was no change at all (still no spell checking)
So, I went to this site, made an account, activated the count (this entire time FIREFOX had no spell checking) and I created a report.
I was most of the way done writing the report when suddenly the spell checking started to work. I made no changes to the settings, when suddenly I had spell checking working.
This means there is an intermittent error;p often the hardest to find from my 20+ years of programming experience (Senior IT contractor)..
So, have find finding this one. Intermittent bugs are the hardest to track, and tend to come from issues like scope issues, settings stored in files/registry, overly convoluted code (like a rush job that isn't fully understood & was just hammered on until it seemed to work). From my experience it often happens in the last steps of finishing a release - accidentally introducing a bug into what was a working section of code (unexpected ramification are a suspect) into a previously working program piece of a program.

Hi BarleySinger and thanks for reporting us this issue.
Yes. Intermitent bugs are really difficult to track and solve, so please try to do this things:
* Try to reset Firefox so all settings that may be creating this problems will be removed.
The Reset Firefox feature can fix many issues by restoring Firefox to its factory default state while saving your essential information.
Note: This will cause you to lose any Extensions, Open websites, and some Preferences.
To Reset Firefox do the following:
#Go to Firefox > Help > Troubleshooting Information.
#Click the "Reset Firefox" button.
#Firefox will close and reset. After Firefox is done, it will show a window with the information that is imported. Click Finish.
#Firefox will open with all factory defaults applied.
Further information can be found in the Reset Firefox – easily fix most problems article.

* Try to perform a antivirus scan on your computer so you check you have no malware.
Sometimes a problem with Firefox may be a result of malware installed on your computer, that you may not be aware of.
You can try some of the following programs to scan for malware:
* MalwareBytes' Anti-Malware
* TDSSKiller - AntiRootkit Utility
* Microsoft Security Essentials (A good permanent anti-virus if you don't already have one)
Further information can be found in the Troubleshoot Firefox issues caused by malware article.
Did this fix your problems? Please report back to us!
* Send us troubleshooting information.
In order to be able to find the correct solution to your problem, we require some more non-personal information from you. Please do the following:
*Click the Firefox button at the top left, then click the Help menu and select Troubleshooting information from the submenu. If you don't have a Firefox button, click the Help menu at the top and select Troubleshooting information from the menu.
Now, a new tab containing your troubleshooting information should open.
*At the top of the page, you should see a button that says "Copy all to clipboard. Click it.
*Now, go back to your forum post and click inside the reply box. Press Ctrl+V to paste all the information you copied into the forum post.
If you need further information about the Troubleshooting information page, please read the article Using the Troubleshooting Information page.
Thanks in advance for your help!
* Check the issue is still reproducing intermitently, and it was not an isolated problem (Maybe Firefox was still preparing the spell checker).

• How do I set a default dictionary for spell check?

I work in three languages, mostly in English, and I would like my spell check to be set to the default of English. Right now, every time I start Firefox it will spell check in Ukrainian. I have to manually adjust that to English---and that is for every window that I open. It's become rather annoying since I compose emails all day and must constantly switch it to English.
Any advice?

Start Firefox in <u>Safe Mode</u> to check if one of the extensions or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).
*Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.

If you do not keep changes after a restart then see:
