Since upgrading to Lion, no new meetings showing in iCal

Just upgraded to Lion last week and iCal has been a complete flipping mess.
The biggest issue I have now is that new meeting invites arrive in Mail, but when selecting either MAYBE, ACCEPT, or DECLINE, nothing ever gets added to iCal.
I've tried (per another discussion I read somewhere) to delete the entire $HOME/Library/Calendars subdir which seemed to clean things up a bit, but still can't use these buttons.
Such a pain because I can only attempt to ACCEPT 2 times -- once while in the INBOX and Mail then moves it to the Trash folder.  The second time I try to accept it for testing (no matter what folder the invite resides in, for example if I move it back to INBOX), it gets deleted forever.
Any ideas?
Thanks!

I did find that if iCal is open, the meeting will appear in iCal and as long as I accept/decline the meeting FROM ICAL, then it seems to work.  It appears only the buttons inside of Mail are no-ops and just end up causing the meeting to be deleted and to never show up.

  • Upgrade to Lion from 10.6 shows no ical, etc. in server admin... but runs them...

Upgraded on of my (4) servers today from the latest 10.6 to 10.7. I downloaded the whole package, everyhting went fine, until I accessed the server with server admin (10.7).
From all of my services only DNS, Firewall, Mail and OpenDirectory were up and running (and showing up).
But I had iCal, AFP, Adressbock, VPN and Web running.
I did not have Mail running (so I do not know why the upgrade to lion switched mailservices on.)
So now the funny part. I tried to add the missing services via "add service...", but they are not there and nowhere.
So, assuming no iCal on the server running I thought my clients will not have iCal access, but to my great surprise. iCal worked just fine...?!
So I startet the app "Server" on the lion server itself.
To my surprise, there were all the missing services runnig and switched on. I switched them off and on again (to get them maybe visible in Server Admin) but nothing changed.
Now I am running with all the services on but they are not visible in Server Admin...
Only small problem I noticed, is that from my 3 afp sharepoints only one was visible, I switched again off and on file sharing via "server.app" and - voala all sharepoints are back again...
Hmm, strange... I will wait with upgrading my other servers.
    regards
    Robert

what you have described is the correct behaviour.  Server Admin has changed and some of the services are now in Server.

  • Since upgrading to Lion, video from 7D shows as unsupported video format

Video from my Canon 7D that used to work fine in Aperture now is showing as unsupported video format can anyone suggest a fix? Is this a Lion, Aperture, or Canon issue?

What's the format of your video? That will give you a hint as to what plugin is failing (or missing).
If you don't know, what's the URL of your site - it shouldn't take long for someone to work out the specifics.

or maybe install Snow Leopard using the disc it came on with my Mac and just set it up from a Time Machine Backup on my external hard drive (since it works under SL)?
Did you install Lion on an empty partition, or did you upgrade Snow Leopard?  If you upgraded, I'd not recommend erasing it, since your backups are apparently gone.  It's doubtful Snow Leopard will recognize them.
It's not just backups on the drive either, there are other important things on there, so why won't they show?
Mixing Time Machine backups and other data is not a good idea.  See #3 in Time Machine - Frequently Asked Questions.  It sounds like the whole disk is corrupted.
I just really don't understand how this happened. Could it not be an issue with WD because they haven't issued firmware to support Lion yet?
If this is a simple external HD, connected by USB or FireWire, no, unless you installed some of WD's software on it.  That shouldn't prevent it from being seen at all, but anything's possible.

  • Safari works great on my iMac, but not so well on my Macbook Pro since upgrading to Lion.  I get a message that I am not connected to the internet when I try to open a webpage even though the wireless icon at the top of my screen shows I am connected.

Since upgrading to Lion I am having problems with Safari on my Macbook Pro.  I am using wifi to access the internet and the internet works in all other application except for Safari.  When I try to access a webpage most times I get a error message saying I am not connected to the internet.  If I click on diagnose the problem, I get connect again to the internet through the diagnostic process and the webpage generally works.  This is not a problem when wired to the internet.

Check your network settings, in particular the advanced setting "DNS Server". If it is by chance 127.0.0.1, make sure to change is and use a know DNS Server (from Google for example, or your own Router local address).

  • Can't find the custom mail stationery folder since upgrade to Lion

I have some custom mail stationery items I created in Leopard and have since upgraded to Lion when it was released.  Today I went to edit one of my custom ones and the folder was no longer present in the old location at
    User folder/Library/Application Support/Mail/Stationery/Apple/Contents/Resources/Custom
I have searched everywhere looking for the 'custom' folder but can't find it.
Problem is that mail still is showing them as if they still exist (and can use them) but I can't find where they are.   I decided to try creating a new template to see where it stored it but I can't find it anywhere and definitely not in the usual place.
Can someone please point me in the right direction .. I'm pulling my hair out!!!!

Binaut's answer is great.  However, how I was able to successfully move and place my custom stationery packages so they would show up in the "CUSTOM" category in a new mail using stationery took a different path. I had to place it in the SYSTEM Library FIRST. Of course I made the changes to the Table of Contents.plist and all that. AFTER I placed the package in the System/Library/Application Support etc. (the traditional place for templates) Mavericks Magically created the CUSTOM folder automatically and everything worked.
If I'm off on this, please let me know.
Below is a link to a new discussion I've started.
Hope this works for you!  There's also a link to a good tutorial on creating your custom stationery in the first place.
    Best to you!

  • Can't always connect to remote speakers since upgrading to lion

In one fell swoop I did a lot of upgrading, and ever since I haven't been able to reliably connect to any remote speakers using iTunes on my iMac.  From iTunes (or the Remote app on the phone or iPad) I can see remote speakers, but I cannot connect.  From iTunes, I just get the stripy progress bar, and it won't ever go away unless I cancel out.  From the remote app, it just becomes unrepsonsive.
    Context:
I have a iMac with OSX Lion, that I upgraded from Snow Leopard a few weeks ago. At about the same time, I updated iTunes to 10.5 from the last 10.4 release to be able to get the IOS 5 update on my and my wife's phones.
I have an Airport Extreme connected to our broadband, with 3 airport expresses in various places in our house connected on a wireless network to stereos for remote speakers.  The iMac is connected to the Airport Extreme via ethernet.  After upgrading the OS and iTunes, I got a notice that there was a firmware update for my two most recent airports (the Extreme and one of the expresses).  They are running version 7.6 of the firmware, the other two airports are running 6.3.
There has been no change to the physical environment -- no sources of interference or anything like that.  I can play music from the Music app on my phone to any of the remote speakers, there is no problem there.
About half the time, if I restart everything (wireless base stations, and then the computer) I can get the remote speakers to work.  However, the next time the computer wakes up from sleep mode, I have the same connection problem described above.
Has anyone else experiences these sorts of troubles?  I have seen some similar problems with older versions of all these applications and OS's -- and the solution there was to turn off ipV6 -- however, it doesn't look like that's an option now.  Is this an identified bug, and is there a fix on the way?  Is there anything I can do in the meantime?

Well, after some experimentation and internet-lookin', I deduced that is possibly a wi-fi problem.  It seems that many people are having wi-fi problems since upgrading to Lion, and although I'm not connecting directly to my wireless network, it does form a pretty big chunk of my setup describe above.
So I tried the fix outlined on OSX Daily here: http://osxdaily.com/2011/11/06/lion-wi-fi-problems-solution-mac/
Essentially what it has you do is to create a new network location, name it, and then renew your DHCP lease.  This seems to have worked for the time being.

  • Time machine ridiculously slow since upgrading to Lion

    Hiya,
I have a Macbook Pro and an Apple TimeCapsule, since upgrading to Lion last week, it is having stupidly slow throughput, i've had to cancel the backups as i don't have the hours in the day to let it complete.  this isn't a 3rd party device, it's a 1TB native Apple TimeCapsule.  Is anyone else seeing this speed issue?  It's making the Macbook run super hot too while it sits backing up so slowly.
Since the update it now wants to backup 8GB which at this rate will take all week!
Please tell me i'm not going mad
    Many thanks,
    Emma.

The first backup after installing lion is going to take a while due to all of the new files and such. I also noticed that lion does a lot of file indexing after installation, both for spotlight AND time machine disks. When checking out processes, mdworker/mdworker32/mds (all indexing services from what I understand) were running for 1 or 2 days, but now the HDD activity (and time machine backups) are back to "normal".
My advice is to leave your Mac on overnight for 1 or 2 nights so it can get caught up...

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a test, not a solution. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
    Step 1
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is localized to your user account.
Enable guest logins and log in as Guest. For instructions, launch the System Preferences application, selectHelp from the menu bar, and enter “Set up a guest account” (without the quotes) in the search box.
While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your personal files or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin.
Test while logged in as Guest. Same problem(s)?
After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it.
Note: If you’ve activated FileVault in Mac OS X 10.7 or later, then you can’t enable the Guest account. Create a new account in which to test, and delete it, including its home folder, after testing.
    Step 2
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. The instructions provided by Apple are as follows:
Be sure your Mac is shut down.
    Press the power button.
Immediately after you hear the startup tone, hold the Shift key. The Shift key should be held as soon as possible after the startup tone, but not before the tone.
Release the Shift key when you see the gray Apple icon and the progress indicator (looks like a spinning gear).
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including wireless networking on certain Macs.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem(s)?
After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode.) Post the results of steps 1 and 2.

Did all of that yesterday, with the Apple Representative on the phone, and nope, still a problem...it was kind of exciting, really, they kept going up and up the tiers of support until I got disconnected...Fortunately I had the email address of the gentleman who was helping me so that I could email him back and let him know that we got disconnected...as you might imagine, he still has not emailed me back.  They were able to receive a copy of the form that I use for charting and try it in their facility on their computers, so we know:
1- it is not just my computer.
2- it occurred only after installing Lion OS X, not sure if they have tried it on Snow Leopard, but that's what I would have done if I was them...assuming that somewhere in Apple someone has not upgraded to Lion.
3- it is not just my software.
I think the problem is with the newer iteration of Preview  not communicating well with the Adobe .pdf.  probably some line of coding that needs to be written and insertedinto their program for multiline text.
:-)  Thank you for your help!

  • Since upgrading to Lion iphone sync causes unrecoverable crash

Basically when trying to sync iPhone my entire system crashes/freezes requiring a hard reset.
I had previously posted an unresolved fault that was similar with Time Machine. I ended up resorting to buying a Firewire 800 drive instead of the USB one I was using and Time Machine is now working correctly.
HOWEVER, I cannot sync my iPhone 3G. The sync starts but the computer completely freezes. I have tried reinstalling iTunes 10.6 but this had no effect.
I have tried resetting the sync data as per http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1627 but this has not worked.
Bizzarrely I have been able to restore a previous iPhone backup but am unable to do a Sync.
USB devices seem to be OK excepting the HDD whcih i have abandoned.
I am pretty staggered that there are so many people experienceing problems after upgrading to Lion. This is a fairly new macbook pro i5 so it really shouldn't be an issue. Its clearly a software glitch but I have very little to go on. Nothing is written to Console before the crash so there is nothing much to go on there.
If anyone can suggest a remedy i;d be pleased to know.
Look forward to hearing form you

    Hi Steve,
I'm having a similar, if not exactly the same problem. I often download files from my Beyonwiz PVR, convert them to mpeg and DV files using MPEG Streamclip (with Quicktime MPEG playback component), then burn a disc with iDVD. Since upgrading to Lion, I notice that the audio in these files, and the burnt DVD in particular, can be slightly out-of-sync with the video. Although the effect is slight, it's completely unacceptable in my book - its like trying to watch something that been badly dubbed. I find it to be a very jarring effect to watch voices and intonation out of sync with the picture.
I'm not sure where the problem lies - is it Quicktime, MPEG Streamclip, and/or iDVD ?

To make matters worse, it appears there's a bug in Lion Mail.  It opens a compose window for every email I sent in the previous session.  We're talking dozens and dozens of windows.
Maybe try posting your own question on this as it is unrelated to this post. Never seen it before, so if you require help, then open a new topic.

  • Since upgrading to Lion, movies won't play in PPT for Mac 2011. ideas?

Since upgrading to Lion, my movies will not play within PPT for Mac 2011.  Do I have to install new CODECs?  how?

Asatoran,    Good ideal.   I went there with the question and got this response:
"The windows version was probably built with active-x controls which do not work on the Mac. you will need to change the controls to those on the forms tool bar."
I found a form tool bar in the developer section, but nothing on active controls....and the sheet is protected not allowing any changes anyway.
    Thanks again for the direction.

  • Since upgrading to lion and updating HP software my printer (photosmart D5160) will not print to CD/DVD when I try it says my printer doesn't support CD printing. any help will be welcome

Since upgrading to lion and updating HP software my printer ( HP photosmart D5160 driver 3.3.0) will not print to CD/DVD,when I try it says "your printer does not support CD printing". any help will be welcome.

I see those are old posts above but I'm just now having the same problems. I have the original software CD that came with my Photosmart D5160 printer but I can't load it. I get the message "You can't open the application "HP Installer" because PowerPC applications are no longer supported". So I don't have that going for me, which is not nice! But I couldn't really care less about that if I can just find a CD labeler software that will print from my Mac to the D5160. I'd rather by new CD labeler software than a new printer. I've tried a few free CD labeler software downloads, including iWinSoft Label Maker, but nothing has worked so far. I think there's an answer somewhere; I'm able to print documents on regular paper using this printer, but I only bought it (many years ago) to print CD labels and some pictures. It's been used only sparingly and it's been in storage since I bought my Mac 3 years ago, mainly because a I got a free printer with my purchase. Any help is vertainly appreciated!!!

  • Since upgrading to Lion, iCal event invitations are not working well.

Since upgrading to Lion last week, I am having problems with sending iCal event invitations to large groups of people (say 10 people or more). Although my iMac, iPhone, and iPad iCals show that invitations have been sent, only a few of those invited have actually received event invite emails.
Has anyone else experienced this? If so, any insight into the problem or solution?
    Thanks in advance.
