SINGLE 9513 with A&B 9216 best practice....

We have a couple 9216's (A&B side - VSAN numbers identical) and have reached our port count limit. We purchased one 9513 with two 48 port FC modules and one X9304-18k4 line rate card (18FC/4IP). The goal is to make the single 9513 our principle switch ISL'ed to the 9216's.
Is having one 9513 a good decision? Our thoughts were that it has so much redundancy built in and the performance is far beyond what we need we could just use one. I have never had anything but an A&B side of the fabric so wrapping my head around this and trying to keep it within best practice is proving difficult.
The 9216A&B VSANS numbers are identical. When we ISL the zones will merge thereby collapsing the A&B sides together. I really don't want to do that (would essentially become a meshed fabric right). I am thinking that I need to rename the VSAN's on the B side to not match A. Maybe make the even numbered VSAN the A side and the odd numbered VSAN the B side. That way I can keep the ISL's independent from each other and prevent the zones from collapsing into each other.
Also keep in mind that we may (eventually) purchase another 9513 and just move one of the FC48 modules over to separate the A&B side again at a later date. I want to keep this as flexible as possible in case that does happen.
Thoughts - comments - suggestions all welcome! Just please be nice. I am learning....

I think you are right on. The single 9513 can not have duplicate VSANs for the A and B 9216s. The odd/even idea makes the most sense. This way you can leverage the 9513 redundancy. You can match the same VSANs that exist in the A fabric, and only permit those VSANs across the ISLs to the A 9216. You will have to renumber the VSANs on the B 9216 and then match them on the 9513 and again, only permit those VSANs on the ISLs to the B 9216.
Things to keep in mind if you re-number the VSANs on the B 9216. If you match the domain numbers used on the corresponding A 9216 VSANs, and make them static, even if someone cross connects a cable the VSANs will not merge since there is domain confict. If you change the domain from the current one in use, hosts like AIX and HP-UX will get a new FCID. You may have to rescan the host to resolve the lun bindings.
If you have AIX and HP-UX, you may want to ensure that the target devices they use, get the same FCID after the VSAN renumber to avoid having to perform the rescan. (this may prevent matching the same domains used on the A 9216).
Hope this helps,
Mike

  • Activate Scenarios with Solution Builder CRM Best Practices V1.2007

    Hi,
I finished all steps in Quickguide for CRM Best Practices V1.2007 until the end.
All worked fine without any problem.
Now I want to activate a scenario.
    1. In the field Workbench I get a list of 15 Request/Task, I`m only able to select one.
    2. In the field Customizing I do not get any values.
    3. How to maintain this fields?
    3. Do I have to create a customizing request?
Can anybody tell me how to proceed with this step? I copied the standard solution to my favorite Solution and marked seven scenarios.
Perhaps there is a another documentation than Solution_Builder_Quick_Start_V4
    Regards
    Andreas

    Hi Andreas,
In the same popup window, at the bottom, you will find options to create work bench and customising requests.
You can assign only one workbench and one customizing request for all the activities of solution builder.
If you do not have an existing customizing request, choose the option to create one.

  • Using WebI with SAP BW Data - Best practice for introducing BW Accelerator

    Hi,
We have a significant investment in using BOE XI 3.1 SP2 integrated to SAP BW 7.0 EHP 1 SPS05.
Now we intend to introduce BW Accelerator to improve the data fetch performance for the Adhoc (WebI) Analysis and the formatted reports built using WebI (Infoview).
Data handling in question is approx. 2 Million+ records for each WebI report / adhoc analysis (20 to 30 columns).
The solution could be BW Cubes --> BW Accelerator --> BW Queries --> BO Universe --> WebI using Infoview
Does it really help in introducing the BW Accelerator like the case described above ?
Understand that the BW Accelerator could improve the performance of the underlying data and hence the BW Queries do work faster; but does it really improve (9x to 10x) performance for the MDX Queries generated by the BO Universe ( BOE XI 3.1 SP2 ) & WebI.
What is the roadmap for the future wrt BW Accelerator and SAP BI BO Integration; if we intend to use WebI ?
Or should be migrate to BO Explorer as the front end for Adhoc Analysis ?
Is BO Explorer able to present 1 Million + records with 20-30 columns ?
What is the best practice / better on performance; as an integrated product / solution ?
    1) BW Cubes --> BW Accelerator --> BW Queries --> SAP Integ Kit --> BO Universe --> WebI
    2) BW Cubes --> BW Accelerator --> ??? --> BO Explorer --> ??? --> WebI ???
    3) BW Cubes --> BW Accelerator --> ??? --> BO Pioneer --> ??? --> WebI ???
    4) BW Cubes --> BW Accelerator --> ??? --> BO Explorer
    5) BW Cubes --> BW Accelerator --> ??? --> BO Pioneer
    6) BW Cubes --> BW Accelerator --> BW Queries --> SAP Integ Kit --> Crystal Reports (to handle above data volume)
    7) BW Multiproviders --> BW Accelerator --> BW Queries --> SAP Web Analyzer (to handle above data volume)

    Hi,
We have a mix of Adhoc Analysis (60 %) and Formatted Reports (40%). We selected WebI as the tool for the purpose & used it for requirements which process approx. 2M records. We faced bottleneck issues on performance (we are on BO XI 3.1 SP2 & SAP BW 7.0 EHP1, SP05).
We are further analyzing possibility to introduce BWA; if this can handle similar record processing & still preserve our investment on OLAP Universes, WebI, SAP Integration Kit & training users on WebI frontend.
I see a lot of documentation suggesting "BO Explorer and BWA" - understand that BWA would improve the DB time and BO Explorer would help on the Front-end / OLAP time.
Request your guidance on the road map & continuation of investment using BWA + WebI.
    regards,

  • How do you center dialogs with multiple monitors. code, best practices

My existing code will take the pixel size of the java app, and using the size of the dialog, it will center dialogs perfectly in the center of the application. This is great for single monitors, but when multiple monitors are introduced it is a problem. With dual monitor, the dialog is split in half between the two monitors.
I should be able to determine which pixel/frame initiated the user's action; and then i am hoping to get some code or direction on:
    1. how to determine which monitor the user initiated the action on (knowing the px or frame location, how would i do this)
    2. how to center dialog on that monitor
if possible, it would be appreciated if you can provide some code; i cant find anything on determing pixel size of monitors and this seems to be a little bit of a project to do from scratch. open source, 3rd party, insight, guidance, all is appreciated. thanks !

  • IVR (Inter-VSAN Routing) - Best practices questions

    Hi there,
We have a situation where we will have multiple customers hosted on a 9513 and sharing a single storage array.
We want to keep the logically seperated in their own VSANs, but of course the storage array will need to be zoned to all the customers hosts.
Now IVR should be the thing to use, but I'm getting resistance from the local team (screams of "Nooooo!!! They're EVILLLLL!!!") ... so I want to find out if there are some best practices around IVR use ?
Should they be used only for light duty stuff ? (though at present we use them with tape backup, which isn't exactly "light")
Do they impact performance to a measurable degree ?
    Are they stable ?
What can go wrong with them ? And does it happen often ?
    Thanks!

IVR does not impact application I/O performance because all the vsan rewrite and fcid rewrite actions are done in hardware asics. The IVR process on supervisor is responsible for managing the configuration and ensuring the rewrite tables are programmed in the linecards. The process is stable.
Most of the issues I have seen are in environments with multiple IVR enabled MDS switches ISL'd together or an MDS IVR enabled switch connected to a McData/Brocade in an interop mode.
Like any feature there have been bugs and it pays to check the SAN-OS release notes when planning installs. For example, a config change on one switch does not get properly pushed to another IVR switch or a forwarding table for an ISL interface does not get correctly programmed. There have also been a fair share of user misconfigurations which could have been avoided if Cisco Fabric Services (CFS) was enabled for IVR. This is done with the 'ivr distribute' command. Without this it is very difficult in large topologies of multiple IVR switches to ensure they have a consistent IVR config. In other cases there have been problems from a mix of IVR enabled switches running different releases of SAN-OS, e.g. mixing 3.0 with 3.2.
Best practice is to have dual physical fabrics, upgrade one fabric at a time ensuring all IVR switches in a fabric run same SAN-OS release.
A single IVR switch is much easier to implement. The MDS Configuration Guide has a list of best practices for IVR and one of those is to use the NAT option. Personally I would avoid NAT option where you can as NAT makes any troubleshooting harder trying to figure out the domain ID translations. You would also minimize risk of hitting some NAT related bugs, but you could also avoid most of these by checking the workarounds documented in the Release Notes. And with NAT you need to also configure persistent virtual domains and fcids to cater for AIX and HP-UX systems that cannot handle the FCID of the target changing whenever the exported virtual domain ID changes. To give NAT credit, each vsan is represented by a single virtual domain. In regular non-NAT mode, each switch in a vsan is represented by a virtual domain, meaning you eat up more virtual domain IDs. So in large topologies with many domain IDs there are scalability advantages to using NAT and the IVR updates between switches are more efficient with fewer virtual domain IDs to advertize. Of course, NAT must be used if merging physical fabrics with same domain ID and you cannot afford the downtime to change one of the switch domain IDs.
However if it is just a single IVR switch I would avoid NAT. To do this all your domain IDs should be statically defined and there must be no overlapping domain IDs between IVR'd vsans. If it is a brand new install you can easily achieve this by specifying unique allowed domain ID ranges per vsan.
For example, each customer can have their own vsan with say 10 domain IDs and the storage can be in vsan 2. You will only use one domain ID per vsan on day 1. Allowing 10 domain ids per vsan means you can add up to 9 other switches per vsan should you need to in the future. There is a maximum 239 domains per vsan so you could have up to 23 customers on your 9513 working with a range of 10 domain IDs per vsan.
fcdomain domain 2 static vsan 2
fcdomain domain 10 static vsan 10
fcdomain domain 20 static vsan 20
fcdomain domain 30 static vsan 30
    ..and so on..
fcdomain domain 230 static vsan 230
    fcdomain allowed 01-09 vsan 2
    fcdomain allowed 10-19 vsan 10
    fcdomain allowed 20-29 vsan 20
    fcdomain allowed 30-39 vsan 30
    ..and so on..
    fcdomain allowed 230-239 vsan 230
With or without IVR you should still run dual fabrics (e.g. 95xx in each fabric) and host based multipathing for redundancy.
And don't forget IVR will require an Enterprise license. I have even seen a large outage because the customer forgot to install the license before the 120 day grace period expired.

  • Best Practice for Buy in Set and Dismantle for Sales

    Hi All SAP Masters,
We have a scenario that when purchasing an item as "set", in this set, it has a few components inside this set (something like a material BOM). Example, a machine which comes with several parts. However, when the user received this set from the supplier, the user would further dismantle certain part(s) from the set/"machine" and sell it separately to the customer as a component/"single item".
What is the best practice in the SAP process to be adopted?
    Please help. Thank you.
    Warmest Regards,
    Edwin

If your client  have PP module , then follow this steps
Consider A is the purchased material and going to dismantle the A into B, and C
    1) create a BOM for B material
and assign the header material  A as consumption material with + ve qty
and C component as byproduct and maintain - ve qty in BOM
    2) maintain backflush indicator for A & C in material master MRP2 view
    3) create routing for B and maintain auto GR for final operation
    4) create a  production order for B
    5) confirm the order in Co11n, A  will be consumed in 261 movement, C will be receipt with 531 movement
    B will receipt in 101 movement .
once the stock is posted into unrestricted you can sale B & C

  • VPN3020 - ACS - Windows AD - best practices links

Do you have good link with general procedures and best practices for setting up VPN user authorization to a standard Windows domain/AD.
VPN3020 -> radius -> ACS (with default policy to Windows NT) does work, but wanted more granular control which user have VPN access.
With this model everyone who has Windows account would automatically get VPN access.
Also if there are any good reading on setting up "single logon" Cisco VPN client and windows domain.

  • Best practices for ARM - please help!!!

    Hi all,
Can you please help with any pointers / links to documents describing best practices for "who should be creating" the GRC request in below workflow of ARM in GRC 10.0??
Create GRC request -> role approver -> risk manager -> security team
options are : end user / Manager / Functional super users / security team.
End user and manager not possible- we can not train so many people. Functional team is refusing since its a lot of work. Please help me with pointers to any best practices documents.
    Thanks!!!!

In this case, I recommend proposing that the department managers create GRC Access Requests.  In order for the managers to comprehend the new process, you should create a separate "Role Catalog" that describes what abilities each role enables.  This Role Catalog needs to be taught to the department Managers, and they need to fully understand what tcodes and abilities are inside of each role.  From your workflow design, it looks like Role Owners should be brought into these workshops.
You might consider a Role Catalog that the manager could filter on and make selections from.  For example, an AP manager could select "Accounts Payable" roles, and then choose from a smaller list of AP-related roles.  You could map business functions or tasks to specific technical roles.  The design flaw here, of course, is the way your technical roles have been designed.
The point being, GRC AC 10 is not business-user friendly, so using an intuitive "Role Catalog" really helps the managers understand which technical roles they should be selecting in GRC ARs.  They can use this catalog to spit out a list of technical role names that they can then search for within the GRC Access Request.
At all costs, avoid having end-users create ARs.  They usually select the wrong access, and the process then becomes very long and drawn out because the role owners or security stages need to mix and match the access after the fact.  You should choose a Requestor who has the highest chance of requesting the correct access.  This is usually the user's Manager, but you need to propose this solution in a way that won't scare off the manager - at the end of the day, they do NOT want to take on more work.
If you are using SAP HR, then you can attempt HR Triggers for New User Access Requests, which automatically fill out and submit the GRC AR upon a specific HR action (New Hire, or Termination).  I do not recommend going down this path, however.  It is very confusing, time consuming, and difficult to integrate properly.
    Good luck!

  • Creating Billing Unit in CRM V1.2007 Best Practices C05

    Hi,
in C05 (Org Model with HR Integration) for Best Practices V1.2007 I have to create a Billing Unit.
That means, I have to create a Corporate Account.
For Creation of the Corporate Account i need a Number Range and a Grouping.
    My Question:
Maintaining Number Range and Grouping for Business Partners is described in C03.
In the Solution Builder C03 comes after C05.
So I have first to finish C03 manually via SPRO or at least I have to maintain a Number Range and a Grouping so that I´m able to create the Billing Unit as an Corporate Account and then proceed with C05?
    Regards
    Andreas

    Hi Padma,
We are facing the same issue while installing Baseline Best practices.
"Transport numbers not fullfill the requirement"
We are trying to activate full solution.
I have already created a new work bench and customize request ,but stills its gvg "Transport numbers not fullfill the requirement".
Iam not able to find a solution for this on service market place.
    Thanks & Regards,

  • Best practice - material staging for production order

    Hi Experts,
could any of You pls, support me with some hints of best practice how to handle material staging WM-PP interface in a certain case?
Up till now we had a system, where production had no separate location in IM, but one location existed including raw material wh and production. In the same time in WM we had separate storage types for production and raw materials u2013 hence we did material staging transferring goods only inside one IM location between different WM storage types. The material staging should be done based on separate prd. orders.
Now this need to be changed and separate location need to be handled in IM for production u2013 which means the staging should be done between different IM locations and WM administration also need to be handled.
Up till now we used LP10 for staging, then LB13 for TO creation etc. We can keep going like that, but if do so, there is another step required in IM u2013 movement 311, where material numbers and qty need to be added manually to finish the whole procedure. I would like to avoid this u2013 which makes the administrational procedure quite long.
I have been checking the following possibilities:
    1.     Set released order parts-staging at control cycle and use MF60 for staging u2013 but I can not select requirements based on pro ordders here (only able to find demand if component including into selection)
    2.     Two step transfer 313/315 u2013 but this not a supported procedure u2013 313 TI /TO / 315
    3.     Try to find solution how to create 311 movement based on TO or based on WM stock at certain storage type / dynamic bin.
    I have failed.
So, could any of You pls, support me with some useful ideas, how to handle material staging where 311 included and definetly the last step of procedure, but administrator does not need to enter items manually one by one in MIGO.
    All answers will be appreciated

    Hi,
Storage location control should be able to take care of your problem.
If you want to stage the material to a different IM location then the WM location then make the following settings
If location xxxx is your WM location and location yyyy is your Production location.
You have defined Production storage type ZZZ for production storage location YYYY and have maintained the supply area for the same
In WM configuration - For interfaces - IM interface-Control of Assignment "Plant / Stor.Loc. - Whse Number"
Assign location XXXX as the Standard Location. Maintain entry donot copy sloc in TR for location YYYY
In WM configuration - For interfaces - IM interface-  Storage Location control for WH
This entry ensures that there will be a WM tarnsfer Posting between your WM and Production storage Location automatically when you confirm your TO. You can have this done via a btach job also if you want cumulative posting. (schedule job RLLQ0100)

  • What is best practice for conditional rendering?

i have a set of radio buttons that conditionally render another set, which in turn conditionally render a 3rd set.
i am doing this by using a valueChangeListener on an h:selectOneRadio
when i click yes on the 1st set it renders the 2nd set.
when i click yes on the 2nd set it renders the 3rd set.
when i click no on the 1st set now it correctly removes the 2nd & 3rd sets, the method also nulls the values.
when i click yes on the 1st set, it renders the 2nd set with the old values even though they were nulled. and i can see in the debugger they are still null.
so there seems to be an issue updating the model, but i dont know what that issue is. im sure it just has something to do with the way i am trying this conditional render. please see below for my first field and my valueChangeListener method.
any help with what is a best practice for this scenario would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks in advance

Similar issue is covered and explained here: [http://balusc.blogspot.com/2007/10/populate-child-menus.html]. Not sure if it solves your problem as you're using ajax4jsf whereas I don't, but it might give new insights. To the point you might need to bind the component(s) and use setValue(null) or setSubmittedValue(null).

    1. Does anyone know where I can download the transport file, if any?
    2. Should I use the transport file from Baseline Best Practice instead?
    Thank you,
    Bomo

    Hello!
The file should contain eCATTs with data according to best practice preconfigured scenarios and transactions to install them.
Some information about preconfigured scenario you could find here:
    http://help.sap.com/bp_waterutilv1600/index.htm -> Business Information -> Preconfigured Scenarios
Under the "Installation" path you could find "Scenario Installation Guide" for Water Utilities.
I hope it would be helpful.

I have downloaded the package (now  available only Mat.No. 50079055 "Docu: SAP BP Water Utilities-V1.600")  from Marketplace, but there is NO transport file included on it. It only contains documentation.  Should I use the transport file from Best Practice for Utilities v 1.500?

  • Best Practices for migrating .rpd

    Hi,
Can someone please share with us the industry best practices for migrating the .rpd file from a source (QA) to a destination (Prod) environment. Our Oracle BI server runs on a unix box and currently what we do to migrate is to save copies of QA and prod .rpds on our local machine and do a Merge. Once merged, we ftp the resulting .rpd to destination (prod) machine. This approach does not seem reliable and we are looking for a better established approach for .rpd migration. Kindly help me where I can find the Documentation..Any help in this regard would be highly appreciated.

I don't think there is an industry best practice as such. What applies for one customer doesn't necessarily apply at another site.
Have a read of this from Mark Rittman, it should give you some good ideas:
