Siri starts a facetime call when asked to read a text

Siri will not read any text message that I have recieved.  I have tried to use "Read new message" and other suggestions, but everytime I try Siri facetimes someone randomly from my contact list.  Does anyone know why this is happening or how to fix it?  Thanks.

  • Ipod touch won't ring receiving FaceTime call when in standby

I am trying to FaceTime one touch from another. If the one receiving the 'call' is in standby it will not ring. If I take it out of standby or disable locking then it rings normally. I am assuming this is because it loses the wifi connection when sleeping? Is there a way to keep it connected? Is there a way to receive FaceTime calls when in standby mode?

    Welcome to Discussions, mjl4321
My iPod touch rings and displays the incoming FaceTime screen from sleep. Yours should, too.
Here are some things you can consider:
    • If you are using both on the same LAN, try moving one to another wi-fi location. Some users report problems when using more than one FaceTime device simultaneously on the same LAN.
    • If you have multiple devices on your network, check with your ISP for this possibility:
        http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2460
    • Might you merely not be hearing the call? I changed my ringtone to a louder sound and turned the ringer volume to maximum so my partially deaf ears could hear the call if I happened not to be looking directly at my iPod when a FaceTime request was received.
    • Do you have a solid wi-fi connection with minimal interference? I occasionally need to refresh my wi-fi connection. In my case, I think this is due to interference from my nearby neighbors, but interference can be caused by portable phones, microwave ovens, and a variety of other electrical sources:
        http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1365
To refresh, turn Settings > Airplane Mode ON and then immediately back OFF.
Of course, if you lose wi-fi while your iPod is sleeping, you will not know when you need to reset. However, if connected apps ever stop working while you are using them, this may be your problem during sleep, too. You can try the suggestions in the link above to see if you can eliminate the problem.
    • If nothing works for you, ask your retailer or Apple Authorized Service Provider to check whether your iPod may need service.
BTW, your posted system info shows "new ipod touch  iOS 4". If this is correct, you should update to iOS 4.1. If it is wrong, you can correct the info in the "My Settings" link in the upper right part of the page whenever you are logged into Discussions.

  • Face time says I'm already on a FaceTime call when I'm not.

I have to re-start my computer to start a Facetime call. Otherwise it says I'm already on a Facetime calll when I am not.
It just started in the last few weeks.
I'm running a one year old iMac with 10.7.4
    Any ideas?
    Thanks in advance.

Basics from the User Guide are restart, reset, restore.

  • How do I accept a FaceTime call when there isn't an accept button?

The first time I used FaceTime everything went fine. Now when I try to call the same person all I get is a soft ringing, I'm not sure if she gets the ringing or can just hear it over the phone line, but she doesn't get the accept bar on her screen either. Same thing happens when she calls me, no accept bar appears.

If you're having trouble using FaceTime, make sure the feature is turned on. Tap Settings on the Home screen and then tap FaceTime. Tap the On/Off button to turn it on or turn it Off and On.
You have to use the appropriate method for placing a FaceTime call, depending on the kind of device the person you're calling has. If you're calling an iPhone 4 user, you should use a phone number; if you're calling an iPad 2, an iPod touch, or a FaceTime for Mac user, you need to make the call using that person's e-mail address.
    Accepting a FaceTime call
If you're on the receiving end of a FaceTime call, accepting the call is about as easy as it gets. When the call comes in, just tap the Accept button to take the call or tap the Decline button to reject it.
If this is not working, go to Settings > General > Reset > Reset all settings.
Then keep the Powerbutton and the Homebutton pressed at the same time until you see the Apple logo on your iPad screen.
I use Skype, because I think it is working better;  http://itunes.apple.com/app/skype-for-ipad/id442012681?alreadyRedirected=1&mt=8

  • My iPad is randomly placing FaceTime calls when not in use

I got an iPad for my birthday and all is well except while I'm at work and my iPad is at home, my iPad will place calls to people.  I've been at my desk at work when my iPhone (which is sitting on the desk ... locked and nowhere near my hands) will show a FaceTime call coming from myself.  Since I didn't have this problem before I got the iPad, I am assuming it is my iPad placing the call.  Upon returning home, I can see the calls on the iPad and will get texts from friends and family saying I kept FaceTiming.  Aside from disabling FaceTime (I still want to use it ... only on my terms!), what the heck?

iOS 7 defaulted a lot of stuff to on htat you may not need. Such as background app refresh, background app updates and tons of notifications. You might want to look  in the settings and check.

  • Siri is not making calls when i ask

For some reason, siri is telling me it has a problem every time I ask it to place a call.  How do I fix this?

Return for exchange or repair. It can't be doing that, actually, since it is human-finger touch activated. If it is doing that on its own, there is a problem with the hardware.
THere is another thread on this - so yes, it does appear to have happened to someone else. But it isn't correctable by any of us on here, it needs to go to Apple for service or exchange.

  • Hi, today I was making a FaceTime call when a friend of mine knocked my iPhone 4s onto the ground. The screen turned blue for ten seconds then the phone rebooted. What happened?

I haven't noticed anything wrong with the phone, I just want to know what happened and if I should do something about this.

After some troubleshooting, I decided to order a new battery.  I replaced the battery and was then able to get it to restore, however--after I restore it and it comes time to restart the phone, it gets stuck and doesn't turn on.
Sorry, your repair ruined the iPhone.
She does not have apple care and even though she loved this device, she isn't going to buy another iPhone because of all the problems shes had with this one (it's just over a year old).
After you ruined the iPhone with DIY, Apple won't touch it anymore. You should have asked before all these had happened.
I'm an android user myself and I love rooting/flashing new ROMS, so if jailbreaking her phone or doing some kind of super-restore with 3rd party programs might help, I'm all for it-
Yeah, all Android user can think of is Jailbreaking, read this: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3743

  • In FaceTime calls, other person's audio cuts when mine is sending (when I'm talking)...

I seem to remember a time when this wasn't the case... Maybe I'm misremembering?
In a FaceTime call, when I'm in the middle of speaking and the other side speaks, they can't be heard until I stop speaking.
I.e. Audio only goes one way at a time it seems.
This is extremely problematic in slightly noisy areas where there's some background traffic where I am having to mute my end everytime I finish saying something just so I can hear the other person at all.
Bandwidth is not an issue, and it
Am I crazy, or didn't it used to allow me to use the headphones as well as the microphone at the same time?

I have the exact same issue... I've been using a Jabra Extreme2 and just this weekend, bought a Plantronics Marque2 and today had the same issue, so it's clearly not the headset but the phone or OS.
I might try a restore and see if it helps...

  • I bought a 4s last week.siri is not connecting phone calls when requested.

SIRI IS NOT CONNECTING CALLS WHEN THE COMMAND IS GIVEN.SOME TIMES WHEN A CALL IS TAKEN THE CALL GETS CONNECTED BUT CANT HEAR THE VOICE ON THE OTHERSIDE & HAVE TO REDIAL AGAIN

Camera roll photos are contained in the backup. If you have a backup restore from that.  All data created since the backup was made with be lost

  • How to record FaceTime calls on a Mac?

My wife is trying to record her FaceTime calls with a friend from across the country. I noticed that Messages has a record chat option under video but whenever I start a FaceTime call it become gray. Am I doing something wrong? How can we record her conversations?

    Yes it did!
As you can see on my screenshot, there are checkboxes for both mic and mac audio.
Audio quality is great. By default, it saves the video with both sides of the conversation in one stereo channel. No edit needed. But if you plan to edit the audio later, it's capable of saving two stereo tracks. This way you can achieve great quality video podcasts by turning down the volume of the person which is not talking. If both sides uses microfone and disable noise reduction, you can have the full stream of both sides almost uninterrupted and you can fade from one track to the other on your video editing software.
About capturing the video: You can even record full screen. It works OK on MacbookPro non retina, 8G RAM, 2.7Ghz Core i7 in OSX Mavericks in 30fps, sometimes FaceTime drops the fps and I am not shure if it's the performance or networking problems. I like to record a 800x800 square in 10fps, tho. I believe FaceTime is smart to not stream the full quality video, and usually I get better results. With this setting I also can use iGlasses (another comercial software, works also works on Mavericks) to make fun effects or show videos and still have good performance. I record a square because when people turn the devices FaceTime turns the window too. This way it's never cropped.

  • I have a new phone and when asked do iwant to start this as a new phone or do a back up from my last back up. i chose the last back up option and it has taken all my recent photos texts and call off and replaced them with ones frow about 18 months ago.

A minor point, but it may avoid a little confusion if, instead of saying "black" in reference to the iPhone 5s, say "space gray":

  • My Iphone 4 32GB started having this issue when I downloaded the 2 last 6.1.X... VOICE CONTROL pops-up even when I sleep and calls random people just by the sound of the snoring... in FACETIME even more annoying. I confirm that it does this day and night

    Turn off Voice Control.
Otherwise, basic troubleshooting from the User's Guide is reset, restart, restore (first from backup then as new).

  • My iPad 2 doesn't ring when there are incoming FaceTime calls. This problem started when I updated to iOS 8.1.  IOS 8.1.1 didn't correct this problem.  Any suggestions?

My iPad 2 does not ring when receiving incoming FaceTime calls since updating iOS 8.1.  iOS 8.1.1 has not helped this problem.  I checked the settings to make sure Restrictions were off.  I cannot find anyplace that turns sound notification for FaceTime on or off.
    Any suggestions?
    Thank you

In spite of the fact that you said you checked the settings, I still believe that you have system sounds muted.
System sounds can be muted and controlled two different ways. The screen lock rotation can be controlled in the same manner as well.
Settings>General>Use Side Switch to: Mute System sounds. If this option is selected, the switch on the side of the iPad above the volume rocker will mute system sounds.
If you choose Lock Screen Rotation, then the switch locks the screen. If the screen is locked, you will see a lock icon in the upper right corner next to the battery indicator gauge.
If you have the side switch set to lock screen rotation then the system sound control is in the control center if you are running iOS 7. Swipe up from the bottom of the screen to get to control center . Tap on the bell icon and system sounds will return.
If you have the side switch set to mute system sounds, then the screen lock can be accessed in the same manner as described above.
This support article from Apple explains how the side switch works.

AS for your other issues, have you done any other troubleshooting like resetting your iPad, resetting all settings or doing a complete factory reset?

    Millietrixie-
Are you trying to call yourself to test FaceTime?  If so, you must have a second E-Mail address registered with your Apple ID.  In other words, there must be a different E-Mail address on each unit.
