Site backup task failure

Ever since I did a site recovery my site backups are failing, I know you can set it back to no then set it back to yes but thats all the options I have (and that didn't work btw).

Hello Marc,
I would personally try and solve each issue separately. If you can start the backup job manually by starting the service, then troubleshoot the directory structure first. If you look at the link I provided (updated), it shows how to trouble-shoot this. Here
is the direct link here:
http://blogs.technet.com/b/configurationmgr/archive/2012/08/01/support-tip-a-backup-site-server-maintenance-task-may-fail-to-run-in-configmgr-2012.aspx
Using Procmon with the filter settings listed really shows what each process is doing and why it failed.

  • SCCM 2012 R2 CU4 - Site Backup Task failed

Hi, I set up a Site Maintenance Task for Backup our Primary Site, but every time I run this task it fail with the following message:
Error: Backup folder \\backupserver\backupshare$ does not exist or backup service does not have permission to access the folder.
I tried to use "erveryone" in share permissions and NTFS Permissions with Full Control and then the Backup works! ... I tried to remove the everyone from NTFS completely then the Backup also still works .. but when I remove everyone from the share
permissions (and grant the SCCM Site Server and SQL Server Computer Accounts the Full Control Permission) the backup fails..
so it seems to me that I have a permission issue ... what is the correct Permission setup for UNC Backup? (Share and NTFS Permissions) ... I tried to give the SCCM Server and SQL Server Computer and SQL Cluster Account Full Control without success...)
    kind regards
    Klaus

  • Site Backup Task fails

I am using SCCM2012 R2, I am trying to take backup i am getting error, i am using domain admin account, i gave full access to it in SQL , in sharing and security permissions(folder) i gave full access. (MY SCCM and SQL Server are in one box)
Warning: SQL installation root directory is empty: The registy key "SOFTWARE\Microsoft\MSSQLServer\Setup\SQLPath(populated by configmgr setup) was found empty
Backup Folder doesnot exist or backup service doesnot have permission to access teh folder

    Hi
You need to give the computer account of the site server and the computer account of the SQL Server, if SQL Server is installed on another computer, Write NTFS and share permissions to the shared network folder.
By the way, I would recommend that you create your backup from SQL (SQL maintanence) instead. The only advantage of using the ConfigMgr Backup maintenance task is that you can specify what to do after the backup has completed in the AFTERBACKUP.BAT
    file created in the smsbkup.box.
For information about how to create a ConfigMgr backup in SQL check out this post:

  • Project Site's Tasks List not sync

    Hello,
It seems I am having an issue with Project Site's Tasks List as it doesn't sync with the Project Plan/Schedule in Project Online.
In all of the instances, the setting in PWA Settings/Connected SharePoint Sites: "Sync Enterprise Projects tasks to Tasks List" is always checked.
The thing is that it used to work fine: whenever I published a new project, whether it was "Automatically create a site on first publish" or "Allow users to choose", the Tasks Lists were successfully synced.
Recently I have removed/deleted the existing connected project site and created a new one based on default Project Site templates, meaning the synchronizable lists (Risks, Issues, Tasks etc.) must remain. Now the sync problem occurred for both newly published
projects and existing projects. The Project Site's Tasks List appeared empty although it was locked for edit in PWA. I though the sync would have run overnight, but it didn't.
Does anyone have any clues about this and how it can be fixed?
    Thanks,
    Linh

    Linh,
What is the task list you see under the column Server Settings >> Connected SharePoint Sites,
under the columns Tasks List, when you use the default template?
More over, is this is a new project or an old project? I think there is an issue if yo turn off and turn
the sync option again for existing projects. May be it applies to projects that you delete and recreate project site for?

  • Manage Site-Specific Tasks ERROR

    Hello,
I have been using Site-Specific Tasks to alert my users when we take our APEX environment down (for patches and upgrades). I created a Site-Specific Task that I guess was just too long. Now, when I go into the ADMIN tool, instead of allowing me to edit/delete the task it throws this error:
    report error:
ORA-06502: PL/SQL: numeric or value error: character string buffer too small
Is there a table that this task sits in? Can I manually delete it?
    Thanks!

    Scott,
    <br><br>
Yeah, since I wasn't seeing those table names I started searching on everything in the DB in hopes of finding something. This is how I picked up the package names.
What I finally realized was the user I was logging in as didn't have enough rights to see the WWV_FLOW_CUSTOMIZED_TASKS table.
    <br><br>
All is well now after my DBA truncated the table. Still don't know why APEX wouldn't let me edit the field, the only thing I could think of is maybe some of the HTML tags I was using was messing it up. Now that I have access to the field, I can put the full task I created into the forum:

  • Backup task failed with exit code -1

    Hello all.
I have not been able to backup my Daylite database for almost 2 weeks. This is the error I am getting: "backup task failed with exit code -1"
I have a Mac Mini Server running 10.7.1 .    I have plenty of disk space available 140GB and the Daylite database is about 1.7GB.
I had a corrupt disk and repaired it w/ disk utility and also verified/repaired permissions. I have tried backing it up to another location with no luck.
Anyone had a similar problem ??

until you delete the previous version in zlm and do a rug ref... or is this as designed
When you make changes to the bundle you need to apply them. That creates a new version and then you need to deploy that new version. Apply and deploy are on the same page. But I guess you know that.
If you already did that and still had problems, it might be the zen loader that needs a little bit more time. Once you hit deploy, a zen queue entry gets created that informs the zen loader to update the bundle xml file in the file repository. That file is delivered to the managed device when it queries for bundle information. So if that bundle xml contains the old version, the client will see that.
Problems here can be that the zen loader simply needs a few seconds longer then when you change to the device and run rug ref. Or there can be other queue entries that get processed and the bundle xml update is just in the queue and waiting. The zen loader has 5 slots for processing queue entries.
On the zlm server you can run "zlman ql I" for in progress entries and "zlman ql N" for new state entries that ned to be processed.
Or you can use the short script I posted (Cool Solutions: Monitor ZLM queue entries with Nagios) that shows you in one line how many and what type of queue entries currently exist. This is what I always use to get a overview about the queue status.

  • I am trying to decide on a HDD for off site backup

I am trying to decide on a HDD for off site backup, should I use a bus powered drive or  brick powered?  Should I go cheaper with a powered unit or convenience of a bus powered drive.  I would clone my computer and bring it to a friends house. I would do this 2 or 3 times a year just to have an off-site backup of my personal stuff.

How you connect the drive is really what will determine what in my opinion is best. If you connect directly to the iMac then get a brick powered drive. The reason being is iMac's are not known for supplying a lot of power from their USB ports and if you want your backup to be reliable it has to get good power. However if you are using a powered USB hub hanging a bus powered drive should be fine. I also think that if you are going to use the backup as a clone  don't get a USB drive, that's just plain not too smart. Yes it would work however the performance would be awful, if you run into a situation where you rely on that drive for a time to run your Mac you'll hate the experience. In that case get a good Firewire 800 drive which will provide acceptable performance, never as good as a SATA drive but decent performance none the less. That being said if you do decide to get a FW800 drive it will be powered by a brick as I don't thing there is such a thing as a bus powered FW800 port.

  • Off Site Backups?

I have a great deal of sensitive information on my MacBook. Prior to Leopard & Time Machine, I kept regular back ups at work, and weekly backups over the weekend at home.
Does anyone know if Time Machine has the capability of maintaining two separate backups on two separate drives? I created both initial backups already, and I know that I can figure this one out on my own through trial and error, but it takes so long for my initial backup to complete that I would like to know for sure so that I don't have to go through the process all over again.
If it doesn't work, I will probably use Time Machine at work and do a more conventional back up over the weekend at home. I guess I'm just trying to save myself a lot of time and trouble and I certainly appreciate any wisdom that anyone out there can share with me before I try pushing the button myself!
    Best Regards to All!

I am sorry that it has taken me this long to add this post as an answer to my own question. After quite a bit of reading and a little bit of experimentation, it is now much clearer to me how Time Machine works, and it is also clear that it can only manage one back up drive at a time, even though that single back up drive can host many different computers running Time Machine. So, if you change your back up drive, it will become an archive with all of your back up data intact, but Time Machine will start over from scratch with the new back up drive, creating its complete back up all over again. This is great in one sense, that being if you want to have archival hard drives and don't mind tying up your computer for the initial back up process to run all over again. But for my purposes, I really want Time Machine to be able to go back as far into time as possible so that I can recover and/or review documents as they were in the past. Therefore switching drives, even from time to time, would not work as a solution for me.
    So here's my plan:
    • My Time Machine drive (which, by the way, is a big honker and will hold a lot of back ups, especially considering how Time Machine does backups), will remain at the office where I do the most work on my laptop and where files are changed throughout the day, every day.
    • I will use DejaVu when I bring the laptop home at night and over the weekend in order to create an off site back up of my data. (I had been using DejaVu previous to my upgrade to Leopard and the advent of Time Machine, so it is a simple matter of continuing to use this particular program for me, but there are many other possibilities out there that will create a "mirror" of your data for off site purposes).
By trial and error I have found that the two programs in no way interfere with each other. When I go home on the weekend, DejaVu knows what files have changed and makes the appropriate back ups. When I plug my Time Machine drive back in at the office, it knows what has changed since the last time it was connected and it picks up right where it left off.
As I said, I did test this out myself, and it does work for me. As I also said, I did a good bit of reading as well. One of the best written, most thorough, and easiest to understand articles, (complete with pictures, I just love pictures!), can be found at Apple Insider:
    http://www.appleinsider.com/articles/07/10/12/roadto_mac_os_x_leopard_timemachine.html&page=1
(Please note that this is the link to page one. The article goes on for several pages and is really a great read!)
Thanks to taalinukko and to Vince DiStefano for their replies and their input. I will continue to monitor this post just in case anyone out there might have any questions for me and my particular application of Time Machine and DejaVu to do regular and off site backups.
    Best Regards to All!

issue. I will be very grateful for assistance. This is an example of real
message that I want to catch:
    Server: Msg 911, Level 16, State 11, Line 1
Database 'not_existing_db' does not exist. Make sure that the name is
    entered correctly.
    Server: Msg 3013, Level 16, State 1, Line 1

    DATABASE is terminating abnormally.

    Hi GeorgeKochkin,
As Shanky post, you can review or monitor the single database backups via the above scripts. You also can find the backup history for all the databases on a single instance. The following script shows the database backups status, history of their when they
are done based on schedule, at where are taking and when, backup types , backups physical device and size of the database backups and time to perform backup and all other related backup statistics.
    USE msdb
    GO
SELECT bs.server_name AS Server,-- Server name
    bs.database_name AS DatabseName,-- Database name
    CASE bs.compatibility_level
WHEN 80 THEN 'SQL Server 2000'
    WHEN 90 THEN 'SQL Server 2005 '
WHEN 100 THEN 'SQL Server 2008'
WHEN 110 THEN 'SQL Server 2011'
    END AS CompatibilityLevel,
    -- Return backup compatibility level
recovery_model AS Recoverymodel,-- Database recovery model
    CASE bs.type
    WHEN 'D' THEN 'Full'
    WHEN 'I' THEN 'Differential'
    WHEN 'L' THEN 'Log'
WHEN 'F' THEN 'File or filegroup'
    WHEN 'G' THEN 'Differential file'
    WHEN 'P' THEN 'P'
    WHEN 'Q' THEN 'Differential partial'
END AS BackupType,-- Type of database baclup
bs.backup_start_date AS BackupstartDate,-- Backup start date
bs.backup_finish_date AS BackupFinishDate,-- Backup finish date
bmf.physical_device_name AS PhysicalDevice,-- baclup Physical localtion
    CASE device_type
WHEN 2 THEN 'Disk - Temporary'
WHEN 102 THEN 'Disk - Permanent'
WHEN 5 THEN 'Tape - Temporary'
WHEN 105 THEN 'Tape - Temporary'
    ELSE 'Other Device'
    END AS DeviceType,-- Device type
    bs.backup_size AS [BackupSize(In bytes)],
-- Normal backup size (In bytes)
    compressed_backup_size AS [ConmpressedBackupSize(In bytes)]
-- Compressed backup size (In bytes)
    FROM msdb.dbo.backupset bs
    INNER JOIN msdb.dbo.backupmediafamily bmf
    ON ( bs.media_set_id = bmf.media_set_id )
    ORDER BY bs.backup_start_date DESC
    GO
There is another example scripts about find the backup history for all the databases on a single instance, you can review the following blog.

  • Backup assistant failure

Backup assistant failure.  Anyone get this?  Tried CS and they told me that there would be an update for this.  Still waiting. 2 MONTHS NOW!!!!

Backup Assistant functionality has been troublesome from the start with the android phones.  You might want to consider only using Google for your contact and remove any contacts from the Backup Assistant

  • SMS SITE BACKUP service failed to start

    Hi,
Trying to start SMS SITE BACKUP service manually but it failed to start. Giving system error 2, specified service cannot find.
So how to start the backup.

Is this for the server that you just restored? Is that server healthy? If I remember right you also have the error
8 issue. A lot of these can be interrelated. IMO you should focus on the site server issue then work on the client issue.
No, this is not restored server. You mentioned right that error 8 issue is there but its getting resolved after restart.
Once restart there is no other MP related issue showing.
Not understanding where to check. Please suggest.
There is nothing to check on this one. It either exist or it doesn’t. Since it doesn’t exist you will need to contact CSS directly for support. They can work with you to fix
up your site server and make sure your site server is happy.

  • DPM Off site backup recommendations for all workloads without using tapes

    Hi All
I'm looking for recommendations for off site backups avoiding tapes if at all possible.
    My scenario is as follows:
We are soon to be migrating our backups to DPM 2012 R2 and will be backing up all workloads to disk, this will be around 10TB initially but could ramp up to over 30TB as more workloads are brought in.
What we would like to do is remove the need for tapes and shove our backups offsite onto some sort of cloud storage. We've looked at the obvious Azure online option but unfortunately this doesn't support all workloads (just File, SQL and Hyper-V).
We would need a decent retention period (7 years).
We'd like to go as direct as possible to the cloud from DPM without the need to locally double up or stage.
I'm very interested to know what's out there and what are people using.
    Cheers!

    Yes but...
As it's going to be writing potentially GB/TB of data to the VTL file it might not be the most efficient to go directly across the cloud. There are lots of issues latency, speed, contention, etc. to take in to consideration. Most of the Cloud Storage appliances
like StorSimple, BridgeStor, etc. have the smarts of cope with variables such as above. Once the complete file is on disk moving it to the cloud is relatively easy.
I agree that you'll be duplicating data but it would be far safer to write locally then move to the cloud.
A secondary is a good option too but as you're looking for long term retention, 7 years, then it may be very tricky with file data due to the 64 VSS snapshot limit. For other workloads it would be fine but would require a significant capital investment to
create the infrastructure as DPM doesn't play well with new features like Storage Spaces.

  • Best Practice for 2008R2 DC off site backup

    hello.
at the request of the management i am trying to finalize a plan that covers off different potential events that could afflict our domain controllers.
we currently have 2 DC's in our environment 1 holds all FSMO so we have redundancy if 1 goes down and i can use DC promo to build a new one and add it to the domain, then doing meta data clean up if needed.
i have system state backups which will be useful if something happens to AD and i still have the original hardware to restore onto.
however if something horrific happens i lose both dc's and need to restore to new hardware i am dubious of the reliability of these system state backups as i have tested them in the past and often got BSOD issues.
i toyed with the idea of have a 3rd DC hosted off site in a data center, have replication occur to this and then i could use to rebuild new ones onsite if such a disaster were to occur.
any one have any suggestions or ideas on this one, or speak from there own experiences in this subject
    Many Thanks

Having a off-site DC is always good, but in the event of a replicated failure it's not going to help, there is situations where you would need to do a forest recovery (for example backing out of a schema update) Then you need to restore a system state
backup of one DC and preferably re-install the others.
