Skype 7.0 Feedback!

Dear Microsoft,
Thank you so much for updating me to skype 7.0, even though I told skype not to update, banned it in my hosts file, and repeatedly deactivated the processes designed to update. Clearly, I must not have understood the wonders of untoggleable autocorrect that only works in my system language, difficult-to-read chats, tiny ui, and cell-phone-app graphics. I definitely feel passionately about this new update that was forced upon me, that much is certain!
Ok, now that that's out of my system... How can I permanently deactivate skype updates once and for all after downgrading? Is there a stable older version where disabling automatic updates actually works? Or maybe I did something wrong with tabs or spaces or placement or commenting in my hosts file... All I know is, I hate everything about skype 7.0 that isn't available in older versions, and if I can't toggle the autocorrect (the option's grayed out and turning off system autocorrect did nothing), then there is no way I can even cope like this. How can I downgrade to a 6.x version skype and be sure that, excusing windows updates, I stay there?
I have already: disabled autoupdates, blocked skype in my hosts (though my syntax may be wrong), disabled the update service (it re-enables itself), and deleted temp files. I don't know how to block the updater in windows firewall. I am using windows 8.1, windows firewall, and avast antivirus. Someone, please help!

Having been in exactly the same boat as you, and having tried most of the same things you have, I've eventually managed to stop Skype from updating, though not from trying to do so. To achieve this I changed the permissions on the Skype folder under Program Files (x86) to explicitly deny all write and delete rights to the SYSTEM and CREATOR OWNER users. Skype still tries to update and closes itself after a few minutes the first time I boot my PC for the day, but it can't actually uninstall the 6.x version or install the 7.x one in its place. After it quits I can simply restart it, and it runs fine for the rest of the day. It's not perfect but it's better than having to reinstall 6.x every time. Hope this helps.

  • Skype-in Canada Feedback

Moderators please do not mark this topic as "Accepted Solution" until there are Skyp-in Numbers available in Canada.  This is a Feedback thread so that Skype can see what people think about us not having Skyp-in in Canada.
For myself I have cancelled my subscription of unlimited calling in Canada and US which I have had for 4 years as I do not see the point in calling out when people can't call in.  Especially since there are so many other viable options such as "e-Phone" (Free), "Fongo" (Free) and many others some with a minimal fee.
Here is a copy of the Feedback message I left for Skype after I cancelled my subscription:
Just wanted to let someone know.  I have cancelled my Skype unlimited subscription due to the fact that you still do not have any Skype-in ability for Canada.  YOu have made many excuses over the years such as CRTC problems etc...  The fact is that I now have at least 3 other apps with free calling on my iPhone with Canadian phone numbers so if they can do it you are out of viable excuses as far as I am concerned.  Without a Skype-in Phone number my Skype subscription was not very useful.  Hopefully enough other people will follow suit till you see the benefit in serving Canadians as you serve Americans and other countries.  Unfortunately there are so many other viable options available now that I am not sure you could win me back even if you did suddenly get Skyp-in numbers for Canada.  At least not at the rates you are charging.
Again Moderators (or whomever does that) Do not mark this topic as "resolved" or "Accepted Solution" etc...  The only way this is "resolved" is if we get Skype-in in Canada.  The only "Accepted Solution" is if we get Skype-In in Canada.
Until then this is meant to be an ongoing discussion topic.
    Thank you.
    Carl

I'm disappointed that Skype has wasted my time in getting half way through an install for me to learn there is no Skype in Canada?  Canada is one of the highest connected countries in the world. Disappointed and surprised shame on you Skype for not doing your homework.

  • Wanted: Your Skype for Windows Desktop ideas

We have just launched a new Windows Desktop Client idea board to let you all share and exchange your ideas on how to improve and develop Skype for Windows desktop client.
Before you start sharing your ideas, here are some guidelines to help you get started:
    Idea Submission Guidelines
Make sure your ideas are for the right client.  This idea board is for Skype for Windows desktop client, not Skype for Windows 8.
Search before posting.  Do a quick search and make sure you are not submitting a duplicate. If the idea already exists show your support by giving kudos to the original idea rather than watering down the potential impact across multiple submissions.
Review the ideas of others.  Look at other ideas to see what your fellow community members are requesting and feel free to exchange on them in the comments section. While we take into account the numbers of kudos an idea receives, we also consider the amount and quality of member feedback when making our decisions.
Add value.  Vote for those items that you like and agree with by giving the idea a kudos. It's a way to recognize someone's effort and to signal to us how important the idea is to you. We are using votes and comments as a barometer to find out more about what our contributor community thinks is important, so we can factor this into our prioritization process.
Submit a new idea. Adding an idea is just like posting a message on a board. To create an idea, click on the “New Idea” button, located on the top left side of the idea board.
Be sure to enter a clear title and description of your idea so others can decide how they would like to vote. Be as clear as possible, tell us what your idea is. Remember to include how it would benefit users and why you think we should consider it as well as scenarios that you think the idea would be used it. That will not only help us to better understand what you want, but we may even be able to solve your problem more quickly another way. You can also preview your idea and check your spelling before you post the idea.
You will need to select a label for your idea, you can choose from one of the following labels:
    Voice
Tell us how you would change the calling experience in Skype when making voice calls to contacts or phone numbers.
    Video
Video is one of the core functionalities of Skype, tell us how you would make it better!
    Instant Messaging & Contacts
How would you make the messaging and contacts experience better?  You can also include ideas around how you would improve the main user interface of Skype within this label.
    Sharing
Today you can share photos, videos, files or your computer screen using Skype for Windows desktop. What would you change or add to the sharing experience to make it better?
    Tips to draft your idea:
    Start with a clear title
Include scenarios and use cases for how the idea would be used
    Add appropriate label(s)
    List features and benefits
Keep it short and to the point
    Avoid tech speak
Do not be discouraged if your idea was not selected.  Sometimes what seems to be a simple idea may not be so simple to build. Some ideas take longer than others, and some ideas will not be possible within the scope of what we want to accomplish in the next year or so.
Be respectful.  Comply with the Community Guidelines and Skype etiquette.

Recent Feedback: We have gone through some of the recent posts on the Skype for Windows desktop board and gathered some of the improvement ideas posted there.  However we need your help to prioritize these ideas against other ideas that you may have.
    Frequently Asked Questions
What is the Idea Board all about?
Idea Board is a new part of the Skype Community, where members can share their ideas about existing products and services. Anyone in the community can see and vote on the ideas you post.
We encourage you to give kudos and comment on submitted ideas as we are more likely to take the top kudoed and most discussed ones into consideration.
How do I navigate the Ideas Board?
Finding your way around the ideas board is a pretty straightforward. Here are some of the things you will see to help you get around:
New Ideas – The most recent ideas.
Hot Ideas – The most popular ideas right now.
Top Ideas – The most kudoed ideas.
    The sidebar widgets
In the sidebar you'll find more ways to sort the ideas board, see new and popular ideas and the top rated contributors to the idea board. It's also really easy to filter ideas by status, for instance if you only want to see ideas that are “Accepted”.
How to check if an idea exists already?
Use the search function filtering by the ideas board – or click here (direct link to search function)
    What do the votes/kudos mean?
Just as you can give kudos in the community boards and blogs, you can vote for ideas you like on the Idea Board. Ideas with high vote totals are more likely to be recognized and accepted by the teams at Skype who develop our products and services. You can also leave comments on ideas, but remember to be kind!
What do the different idea statuses mean?
We strive to review submitted ideas on a biweekly/monthly cycle. Each idea will go through a life cycle that will be assigned statuses at each milestone. The statuses are explained here:
New Idea - Sparkly new idea, submitted by you, and ready to be vetted by the community.
Comments Requested - Items set as Comments Requested will be open to the community for feedback and votes.
Under consideration - Idea has been forwarded to appropriate business team who is determining feasibility.
More information needed - More information is needed before our Product Management team can take this forward, please review the comments left by the team.
Duplicate - Ideas in this status have already been submitted in some form or another. We will link these items over to the other idea so you can review the status or track the progress there.
Already exists - This is available in the product.
Future possibility - Idea is a good one but not something we can include in a near-term product or software release.
Accepted - Idea has been accepted and has been taken forward for implementation, check back soon for updates.
Not right now - We like the idea but just not for right now, we will revisit it in the future.
Implemented - You asked for it, we did it!
My idea has been accepted. How long will it take to be implemented?
Sadly, we will not be able to provide dates for the implementation of any accepted ideas within the community due to the number of factors involved. Please be patient and let us make sure it is completely ready before we make it available.
How will I know if an idea has been implemented?
You can track the status of your ideas as your ideas are sent to the people here at Skype who can make them happen and you will see the status of your idea is updated. We will be telling you if the idea is something we are working on now or would like to do in the future, or if it’s something that is not feasible for us at this time. To ensure you don’t miss any updates select “Subscribe” from the “Idea Options” menu when viewing your idea.
What ideas have been implemented so far?
You can check the "Accepted and Implemented ideas" topic which we will post once the first idea got implemented.
Can I edit or delete my ideas comments?
No, you can't. Be sure to check your spelling and preview your comment before you post it; you can't edit a comment once it's posted.
Who moderates/ manages the ideas board and in what frequency?
The community team is monitoring the board on the daily basis and product managers will come in on a bi-weekly basis to update statuses of the ideas and post their comments.
If Skype decides not to pursue my idea, will you tell me why?
We do not always provide the reasons for our decisions regarding ideas submitted for review but will strive to provide an explanation where possible.
If I am not comfortable submitting my idea over the Internet, is there another way I can do so?
No. Unfortunately we are only collecting ideas using the idea board at this time.

If you are asking questions about skype issues this thread is really the wrong place lol. Getting an answer to yoru question will require a little effort on your part.
    First go here:

Read through that page, if you want to narrow it down and search, use the search.
Since the search targets all skype forums, include which OS you are on.
However since you all are probably on windows, click this link and use search or browse topics.
Do not post a new thread without using search. Look for forum topics marked as [Solved]. Doing otherwise spams the forum and is globally known as inappropriate and poor forum etiquette.

  • Skype & NFL Mobile Apps for Verizon

What's the deal with getting these apps approved?  According to VZ, Palm is holding them up from being available.  There has been a lot said and written about the relationship with VZ, but to have the apps available on android and blackberry phones, but not web OS is a huge mistake.  Please tell me that this will change soon.

    Hello and welcome to the forums;
Unfortunately, we have no information on the status of app submissions or approvals.
As far as I knew, Skype was not even making a webOS app yet, as seen in a 2009 article from US News. I admit that's a bit dated here in the world of webOS, but a quick visit to the Skype download page lists mobile apps for several platforms, but no mention of even a 'coming soon' placeholder for webOS. I didn't stay there for long, but hopefully Skype has a feedback and suggestion page where you could request a webOS version of their mobile application.
As for the NFL app, again we don't have any information, but if you would like to see a particular app or feature like VZ NFL added, visit our feedback portal at www.palm.com/feedback .
Life moves fast. Don't miss a thing.

  • Disable Call Quality Feedback

Morning all, Does anyone know how to disable the call quality feedback that keeps popping up after making a call. I use skype for business purposes and have the call quality feedback box popping up all the time. Very frustrating. Can anyone assist please??? Thank you in advamce!

    Dear Skype support,
I have a huge problem with your Skype call quality feedback. I use Skype to talk with my friends and play together full screen games online like CallofDuty7 BlackOps. We have a big community and we have our own discussion which we never leave, we use it to talk while we play the game together (instead of the game team speak). We do this all the time but with your new add "call quality feedback" popup window it throws me and my team mates out in Windows to ask us about the quality of the conversation. This happens everytime someone from the group decides to end call, while the caller and everyone else are still talking on the discussion. This interrupt out game and sometimes the game even crash and Skype ruin the experience with this unwanted and offensive popup. Please fix this problem at your next version of Skype or me and everybody else I know that is a Skype lover but have a problem with your harrasing way to ask people about every conversation - we will leave Skype and go on something else. I have friends, family and co-workers that use this to contact me and they all would change Skype with something else just because I cant stop this harrasment !
    Best regards,
    Yours truly user.

  • Feedback on Skype 6.21.85.104 preview for Windows

Hi Skype team, thanks for the update.
Here's some feedback/requests/criticism for you as you've requested as such:
(Claudius, they asked for feedback and not "suggestions" and not in any specific area here: http://blogs.skype.com/2014/10/09/improved-skype-desktop-clients-for-a-dynamic-new-chat-experience/)..."Give it a try, and let us know what you think. We’ll be closely following your feedback onTwitter, Facebook, and the Skype Community."
    1. Mood status should be editable below my name in the top left, adjacent to my user pic, and not only in the "profile" popup when clicking on the blue bar.
    2. Recipient chat bubble colour can stay the same blue colour. Sender colour should be distinctly different and not a different shade of blue. It should be the green colour skype used to use.
(Hell, you guys could get REALLY crazy and allow sender/recipient chat bubble colours to be completely customisable! Crazy, I know).
    3. User picture bubble in above chat should be perhaps 10% larger than it currently is. On a 27" display @ 2560x1440 I cannot even make out any distinct features of their face. It's just too small.
    4. Scrollbar for navigating user list on the left hand side is too small and doesn't adhere to Win32 scrollbar standards by using the system scrollbar. The right hand side for navigating conversations does adhere to Win32 and uses the system scrollbar. Please change it back to the system default Win32 scrollbar. Over 51% of your users are more than likely on Windows 7, and only 8-10% on WIndows 8/8.1/8.1 Update 1 with the different scrollbar kit. It's best to stick with what the system uses.
If I find more I'll update it as I go along; these are just my first impressions.
    Thanks!

My feedback: I don't want this. Ever.
I don't want this text-bubble bullcrap. It's cluttering and annoying to look at. I don't want to see these tiny versions of avatars either, they're cluttering and won't be very visible either way. If I want to look at their avatar, I will click on their profile or talk to them 1:1. Actually, I do indeed enjoy the look of the current skype. Minimalistic. My only problem with your mess is that it's 100% WHITE. It burns the eyes and causes actual pain to tab into.
I cannot imagine how this UI is going to work out in large group chats. I'm in multiple, and all I can see is hell. Especially with image previews like this? Plain and simple, you're asking for disaster.
Why do you, Microsoft, continue to give us things we don't ask for? Why has the suggestion for themes been "under consideration" for nearly a year? I don't understand, but at this point, I don't care. I really do hope a new IM/Call program emerges from the shadows and people start moving there. I'm beginning to really despise Skype, and for good reason.
If anything, please make this "dynamic new" garbageexperience optional. That's my feedback, and I pray that you will take what I say into consideration. Then again, you probably won't. Because you're Microsoft.
In any case, I'm going to keep my skype not updated for as long as I possibly can to avoid this calamity waiting to happen. Maybe you'll learn from the backlash of the last time you forced us to update and let us use the program the way we want to, as consumers.

  • Re: Looking for your feedback on Skype To Go servi...

    hallo.cannot sent SMS.Help

I agree that there is too little information given about the 'call from' local  number. Luckily I understood the problem before falling into the same situation as you. i live partly in the UK and partly in Greece - and of course I have to change my 'local'number depending upon which country I am in. But that changes ALL the numbers every time! I have asked Skype how to manage this - but my work-around is to have two Skype identities - one using the UK local number and the other using my Greek one.
I think Skype needs to wake up to this local number thing - it is poor practice not to make things a lot clearer.

  • Complain/feedback about subscription for Skype To ...

    Dear Skype,
I think that you should allow your customers to buy as many subscriptions of any type, as many times they like, not limiting the purchase of one type of subscription to only one time per month/three month/a year period.
The other day I recognised that I run out of minutes from my monthly subscription after about 12 days from its renewal and decided to buy another one identical (120min). I bought it - I was charged for it - my purchase was delivered, but the minutes did not show up on my account. It took me hours of search into the community to understand that I cannot buy two identical subscriptions. That made me furious. And I felt even more upset to learn that the money I spent will, effectively, be used only to renew my useless subscription at the end of the billing month. I have asked for a refund.
    So, these are my suggestions:
If you charge me now I should have the subscription minutes now, right? If you go to a coffee shop and pay for a coffee, you want it immediately, not in 2 weeks time. If you cannot provide me what you sell immediately, do not sell it. While I was buying the subscription you could have told me that I was not going to be able to access the minutes until the end of my current monthly subscription, or you could have just forbidden me from purchase it.
Instead, I have bought a subscription, and I have asked a refund. That's inefficient useless bureaucracy you can avoid easily! I could have saved my time too.
If I want to have two identical subscriptions, let me do it! The smaller subscription packages we buy, the higher the call/minute price will be. So it is even more convenient for Skype if we buy multiple subscriptions of the same type per month.

    Hi,
You should see a warning when you are about to purchase another subscription to a country you already own. This should be shown before you finalize the purchase. It should also include that if you continue with the purchase the minute duration wil be added at the end of the current subscriptions. Here's some example screenshots of what it should look like:
Are you saying that you weren't seeing those?

  • Skype Feedback: Do not change the way Skype is lai...

DO NOT change the way skype is laid out. i like friends list on the lft and chat window on the right. DO NIOT CHANGE THAT OR SUFFR THE CONSEQUENCES >:L
This post was transferred from its previous location to create its own new topic here; its subject and/or title has been edited to differentiate the post from other inquiries and to reflect the post's content. A link to this post appears where the post was originally added.

I also have this problem... For all of the people above who are getting snotty - you're being rather single-minded about your particular use of the iPhone. I live in an African country where it's typical to wait 10 minutes for a medium sized PDF file to upload. I purchased an iPhone 4S in large part due to Facetime being the most stable option for video calls with my parents. Here, I **cannot** update my iOS, the available internet simply does not allow for it. My parents, who live in Canada, but in a remote area where they rely on cellular data, also purchased iPhones in order to use Facetime. But Apple does not allow updating the iOS over data!
The Windows example above is a perfect demonstration of just why this is unacceptable -- internet explorer does not simply cease to function one day (without warning), forcing me to update to a different version of Windows or use an alternative. If I start out having it, I will continue to have it.
It is unacceptable to market a product for its features, then require the buyer to take additional steps in order to restore said feature. If I am required to update in order to get cool *new* features, that is totally fair. But it is not unreasonable to expect that a relatively new product should continue working as advertised, and as it has been!
If anyone learns of any other possible solutions, I will be delighted to hear them.

  • Feedback for people chatting with me via skype or google chat

How do I adjust my system so people that talk to me via chat don't get such horrible feedback.  Every time I am chatting with anyone they state that everything they say to me feeds back to them.
    I have the Toshiba 23" All-In-One LX835-D3205

Can't get on Skype. It keep saying unavailabe right now check back later.

Is your connection status on Skype Online? The status icon next to your name must be solid green with a white checkmark inside.

  • Completely useless feedback from Skype

I having been trying unsuccesfully to obtain a refund for an unwanted yearly subscription that as far as I can see I am eligable for I have sent 4 e-mails to support and then get directed to fill in an online form that when I submit it comes back with " Sorry, we're having some problems at the moment. Please try again later. In the meantime, you can post to the Skype Community or read our FAQs". I've tried reposting 5 times already & get the same answer. Are Skype so strapped for cash that they just don't want (as they claim to offer) a refund or is Microsoft the really **bleep**ty organization that you read about so much on the web? Your advice wouldd be very much appreciated because as it is I intend to never use Skype ever again. Customer srvice?? What Customer Service, quite hopless. And sorry for posting this if it isn't strictly in the scheme of things but Skype leaves me with little alternative.

  • 7.0 and your feedback on the new chat UI

Totaly agree that it would also be nice to be able to hide the useless "Home" and "Call phones" buttons on the contact list.It can be a part of a "compact list" mode or as a separate option. I never use them.

    Hi Skype Community,
Since releasing the new chat experience on desktops to users on Windows and Mac we've looked closely into the feedback you've shared with us. Since September we've released multiple updates to Skype for Windows and Skype for Mac to incorporate smaller changes based on your feedback.
Today we are making Skype 7.0 for Windows desktop available for download from Skype.com.
    New in 7.0.0.100:
Compact sidebar: Some of you asked us to see more contacts and conversation in the left hand sidebar. Enable the option "Compact Sidebar View" from the "View" menu for a more compact layout.
Compact Chat View: If you can live without your chat message having some whitespace around them to give them room to breathe you can now increase your "message per inch" ratio drastically by activating "Compact Chat view" in Skype Options - "IM & SMS" - Advanced settings. Also don't miss out on the other available tweaks to the UI we wrote about earlier.
Toggle for large emoticons: Some users prefer not to show emoticons sent in an individual messages in a larger size. You can find an option to toggle this in the Skype Options - "IM & SMS" - "IM appearance"
Toggle for unread messages: You can now quickly switch between your conversations that contain unread messages and all by using the dropdown on top right of your "Recent" list. See the screenshot on the right
Touch scrolling: If you are sporting a device with a touch screen like a tablet you can now use vertical finger swipes to scroll in conversations. Better have a screen wipe at hand all the time though
Disabling chat formatting: Especially role players using Skype have shared that they'd prefer the new text formatting options introduced in 6.22 to not apply to their IMs. This formatting is based on the use of wrapping parts of the message in characters like *, _ or ~. You can disable this permanently for all of your chats, by sending the following chat command to any of your chats:
    /setupkey *Lib/Conversation/EnableWiki 0
To enable the formatting again please use this command:
    /setupkey *Lib/Conversation/EnableWiki 1
This setting doesn't seem to stick reliably in 7.0 over restarts of the app. Skype is looking into this.
Please give the new 7.0 version a spin and customize Skype layout and design closer to your liking. We are looking forward for your feedback.
