  • Submit: Great Skype for iOS ideas

The new iOS idea board lets you all share and exchange your ideas on how to improve and develop Skype for iOS.
Before you start sharing your ideas, here are some guidelines to help you get started:
    Idea Submission Guidelines
Search before posting. Do a quick search and make sure you are not submitting a duplicate. If the idea already exists show your support by giving kudos to the original idea rather than watering down the potential impact across multiple submissions.
Draft your idea. Be as clear as possible, tell us what your idea is, how it would benefit users and why you think we should consider it. That will not only help us to better understand what you want, but we may even be able to solve your problem more quickly another way. Please avoid text speak and keep the idea short and to the point. Ideas are available within a limited number of topic sections of the community as they are not discussion threads.
Currently you can choose one of the following topic labels for your ideas:
    Video
Video calling is one of Skype’s most popular features. What do/don’t you like about Video calling on Skype for iOS and do you have any ideas for how we can make video calling even better? You can send video messages to family and friends, even when they’re not online. Let us know what you think of Video Messaging in Skype and any ideas you have for how we can make it better.
    Voice
Calling individuals and groups is at the core of Skype. Anything you are currently missing with those features? What would make you use the Skype app more for calling?
    Instant Messaging & Contacts
How can we make it easier for you to find friends and family on Skype and add them as a contact? What are your thoughts on how contacts are managed on Skype for iOS? How to enrich your chat experience? Do you have any recommended improvements?
    Sharing
Tell us how you would like Skype to be integrated with iOS. Would things be easier if Skype was better integrated with your contacts? Better integrated into other apps? Or in the dial pad?
    Some things to include:
Start with a clear title, e.g. "Add XY", ""
Add appropriate label(s) from the list of labels shown below
    List features and benefits
Review the ideas of others. Look at other ideas to see what your fellow community members are requesting and feel free to exchange on them in the comments section. While we take into account the numbers of kudos an idea receives, we also consider the amount and quality of member feedback when making our decisions.
Add value. Vote for those items that you like and agree with by giving the idea a kudos. It's really a significant way to recognize someone's effort. We are using votes as a barometer to find out more about what our contributor community thinks is important, so we can factor this into our prioritization process.
Submit a new idea. Adding an idea is just like posting a message on a board. To create an idea, click on the “New Idea” button, located on the left side of the page content tab, and in the left column under the actions heading click “create an idea”. Be sure to enter a clear title and description of your idea so others can decide how they would like to vote. Remember, the more complete your thought, the more likely it is to get noticed! You can use simple HTML, format the text, or add links or images. You can also preview your idea and check your spelling before you post the idea.
Do not be discouraged. Sometimes what seems simple may not be so simple to build. Some ideas take longer than others, and some ideas will not be possible within the scope of what we want to accomplish in the next year or so.
Be respectful. Comply with the Community Guidelines and Skype etiquette.

    Frequently Asked Questions
What is the Idea Board all about?
Idea Board is a new part of the Skype Community, where members can share their ideas about existing products and services. Anyone in the community can see and vote on the ideas you post.
We encourage you to give kudos and comment on submitted ideas as we are more likely to take the top kudoed and most discussed ones into consideration.
How do I navigate the Ideas Board?
Finding your way around the ideas board is a pretty straightforward task, here are some of the things you will see to help you get around.
    •  New Ideas – The most recent ideas.
    •  Hot Ideas – The most popular ideas right now.
    •  Top Ideas – The most kudoed ideas.
    The sidebar widgets
In the sidebar you'll find more ways to sort the ideas board, see new and popular ideas and the top rated contributors to the idea board. It's also really easy to view only the ideas with certain status', for instance if you only want to see ideas that are “Accepted”.
How to check if an idea exists already?
Use the search function filtering by the ideas board – or click here (direct link to search function)
    What do the votes/kudos mean?
Just as you can give kudos in the community boards and blogs, you can vote for ideas you like on the Idea Board. Ideas with high vote totals are more likely to be recognized and accepted by the teams at Skype who develop our products and services. You can also leave comments on ideas, but remember to be kind!
What do the different idea statuses mean?
We strive to review submitted ideas on a biweekly/monthly cycle. Each idea will go through a life cycle that will be assigned statuses at each milestone. The statuses are explained here:
New Idea - Sparkly new idea, submitted by you, and ready to be vetted by the community.
Comments Requested - Items set as Comments Requested will be open to the community for feedback and votes.
Under consideration - Idea has been forwarded to appropriate business team who is determining feasibility.
More information needed - More information is needed before our Product Management team can take this forward, please review the comments left by the team.
Duplicate - Ideas in this status have already been submitted in some form or another. We will link these items over to the other idea so you can review the status or track the progress there.
Already exists - This is available in the product.
Future possibility - Idea is a good one but not something we can include in a near-term product or software release.
Accepted - Idea has been accepted and has been taken forward for implementation, check back soon for updates.
Not right now - We like the idea but just not for right now, we will revisit it in the future.
Implemented - You asked for it, we did it!
My idea has been accepted. How long will it take to be implemented?
Sadly, we will not be able to provide dates for the implementation of any accepted ideas within the community due to the number of factors involved. Please be patient and let us make sure it is completely ready before we make it available.
How will I know if an idea has been implemented?
You can track the status of your ideas as your ideas are sent to the people here at Skype who can make them happen and you will see the status of your idea is updated. We will be telling you if the idea is something we are working on now or would like to do in the future, or if it’s something that is not feasible for us at this time. To ensure you don’t miss any updates select “Subscribe” from the “Idea Options” menu when viewing your idea.
What ideas have been implemented so far?
You can check "Accepted and Implemented ideas" topic here.
Can I edit or delete my ideas comments?
No, you can't. Be sure to check your spelling and preview your comment before you post it; you can't edit a comment once it's posted.
Who and how often moderates/ manages the ideas board?
The community team is monitoring the board on the weekly basis and product managers will come in on a monthly basis to update statuses of the ideas and post their comments.
If Skype decides not to pursue my idea, will you tell me why?
We do not always provide the reasons for our decisions regarding ideas submitted for review but will strive to provide an explanation where possible.
If I am not comfortable submitting my idea over the Internet, is there another way I can do so?
    No.

I would really appreciate if you guys work on the feature “ custom backgrounds for chat notifications”.
If users will be able to choose any image of their liking in the custom background feature if would add value. Currently some of the chat messengers provide this facility to the users which makes interesting to the users while improving user friendliness and satisfaction. Options that would include are
    Take a photo
    Choose from albums
    Search from web
    Delete
That appears to be a reasonably robust selection. In search, a user can use a built in engine to pull up images based on search and then select it as it their choice. Once you chose an image, it will be asked to confirm and ‘set’ as the universal chat window for all contacts.

  • Stopping Skype in IOS

Hi, i would like to know how to block skype under IOS.
as i read the article, http://ciscotips.wordpress.com/2006/06/07/how-to-block-skype/
it can be done, but many posted that skype does manage to pass through the router via different protocol.
Other than FPM, what other option do i have to block the skype. Please advice. thx

I'm not at all familiar with Skype, but I will suggest the following:
Many applications provide the option of "port 80 tunneling" as an alternative to using their native port assignment (to get through firewalls).
If you establish appropriate interface ACLs (restrict transiting traffic to specific applications permitted by security policy), and combine it with Granular Protocol Inspection (GPI), and the APPFW inspection feature, I believe you would succeed.
We have eliminated use of generic TCP and UDP inspection with GPI, and have used the APPFW feature to eliminate P2P, IM, and port 80 tunneling (with HTTP compliance verification).
Some of the other application-specific inspections also perform compliance checks.
I'd start with verifying which protocols and ports Skype can utilize, and configure accordingly.

    Hello
i have ipod touch since two years.
A few days ago i have to restore my ipod, and now i'm trying to download skaype agin but i can't..
It tells me the skype requiers only iOS 4.3. I'm not sure what i can do it never happends me before.
    Thank you

I guess the Skype app you have before is still available for the old version. Haven't you made a back up of all your apps to your iTunes before restoring? Or have you purchased a new Skype app?

  • Using Skype and iOS 5

I use to watch movies on Netflix and talk to my bf at the same time on skype, since we're often apart. Since the update anytime I open any app with audio Skype crashes. Any ideas?

    Regarding above link:
Please be very careful when using third party software and allowing it access to your computer, iPhone/iPod and their applications. I've forwarded your feedback to our iOS product team.
Apple does not allow easily to integrate with the device's ringtone menu to avoid malicious applications interfering with the iPhone's core calling functions. There might be a work around though.

  • Skype For iOS 7 Is Not Staying Online (Connected) ...

As of today, Skype does not stay online/connected and able to receive calls after being minimized for a given period of time.
PROBLEM: I have updated to the latest version of iOS 7 and have the latest version of Skype for my iPhone 4S. While I notices a few improvements I have an even bigger issue now. Skype will not stay onine/connected to the internet and standing by to take phone calls.
It does not take long after minimizing Skype that it goes into some dormant state that either iOS is putting Skype into or Skype itself is simply not working as it should and keeping itself awake. It is not immediate after minimizing Skype but I can say it does not take longer than 10 minutes.
If you have the SOLUTION please post, otherwise keep the restart and reinstall suggestions out.

Registered here to confirm the same or a similar issue here too, as it seems they could be related. If I lock my phone, but allow Skype to continue running in the background, it seems to work perfectly fine for a while. My contacts see me as online, and I can still receive text and incoming call notifications.
However, if I leave it for a while, my contacts see me as offline. From what I understand, if they attempt to call me or message me while I'm appearing in this offline state, they will still be sent to my iPhone and I'll receive them as normal - however it's impossible for my contacts to be able to tell if I'm really there or not since I'm appearing offline.
I'm not sure how long it takes from locking the phone to this issue occuring, but it seems to be perhaps around an hour to two hours. I would just wake up my phone every now and then, but since my contacts are in different time zones and I may be asleep when they wish to call, I can't always simply repeatedly wake the phone up.
If I do manually switch back to the Skype app while it is in this offline state, I notice it will either refresh my contacts list when the app is opened, or it will display the "Signing In" screen briefly before returning to my contacts list - as if the app is going offline or being halted in the background, and when I manually switch back to it, it's being forced to "wake up" again.
Now, my settings already have me set to "Go Offline: Never". I've deleted and reinstalled Skype already. The phone has been reset several times. It looks like something that may need to be looked into further by the Skype team as it seems to be a potential issue - the "Go Offline: Never" preference isn't working as expected under iOS 7.
My device is an iPhone 4S (16GB) running iOS 7.0.3. It's almost always connected to WiFi and Background App Refresh is enabled (whether the last one has any relevance is beyond me, but some app devs have had issues with it so I figured it was worth mentioning in case).

  • Managing Skype notification on iOS

    Hi Skype for iOS community,
Since releasing Skype 4.17 for iOS we've seen a lot of feedback from you guys around notification frequency and management. We have created an FAQ article that explains how you are in control of the Skype notifications on your iOS device. Please have a look here: https://support.skype.com/faq/FA12404
NB: You won't be able to receive call notifications if you "kill" the app using the iOS task manager. If you want to receive notifications about incoming calls please make sure you put the Skype app into background only using the "Home" button on your iOS device. IM notifications will work in both scenarios.
Please share your feedback on the updated notification behaviour which we are continuing to improve in this topic. Thanks in advance.

    Claudius wrote:
We understand your concerns and have been hard at work, for some months actually, to design a better system that addresses the things you outline. We understand that changing app behaviors is very upsetting for long time users, and are looking for ways to balance existing user habits with the expectations of newer users, steeped in current mobile application behavior. Our notification behaviour is aligning with the one common amongst chat apps on iOS. We don't think users should remember to switch on Skype app to be able to receive IM or calls. Just like you don't "go online" to receive normal phone calls or text messages. Instead we think you should be reachable for you contacts on Skype all the time. More info on that here: http://blogs.skype.com/2014/02/13/skypes-enhanced-chat-experience/ We continue to improve the multi device notification behaviour as well as the presence indicator when you switch off your device and your feedback here on the community has been very valuable so far to define the different user scenarios. We are not in a position to share any ETA for when these improvements will land in your hands, but rest assured we are working on it.Claudius, you seem to still not get it:
This new offline instant messaging "feature" and message sync across devices may be a cool thing, at least for some brain dead, unaware users. For the rest of us you have broekn one of Skype's basic features, one it was born with: the ability to set your status to "offline" to show people you can't answer right now.
You seem to not understand the seriousness of this - touting advantages of the new "feature" - but not understanding you just made Skype useless to millions of users who rely on Skype for serious and professional use!
If I call somebody on the phone and the person isn't in or unable to answer, do I get his voice on the phone saying "Hi, it's Mark here"? Correct, I don't. So why is it that Skype indicates me as online when I have set my status to offline on all devices on which I run Skype? I have even logged out!
It's invasive and utterly frustrating, and as many have indicated here it has already caused many unpleasant situations for thousands, probably millions of people.
I keep being unable to understand how a software company with thousands of employees is capable of making such fundamental errors.

  • HT2693 how to download skype for iphone 3g

iphone mb489so how to download skype for iphone 3g?

You're not going to be able to run Skype on your phone. Skype requires iOS 4.3 or better. The iPhone 3G can only support up to iOS 4.2.1.

Yes, you are right. Unfortunately the App Store description only allows to enter one latest required version. But we offering an older version for users on iOS 6.x
Please follow the upgrade instructions for Skype for iOS here: https://support.skype.com/en/faq/FA34438/
Even if you see a notice about iOS7 being required you should still be able to download 4.17 by tapping the download button:

  • UPDATED: Changes to your Skype online status

If you use Skype on a mobile client, we’ve recently made changes to the way your Skype status is shown to your contacts. Now, when you are offline on your desktop client and not active on your mobile client for five minutes, your status will be changed from Online to Away.

After playing with the status a bit the last two weeks, I found out the situation is even worse than I thought. In addition to the status being handled incorrectly by Skype, it also matters 'to whom' it is displayed!
Example: A person X had a Windows Phone which was connected to the network and ready to receive calls/messages. The Skype app was of course not running as the Windows Phone uses WNS to be online. Skype even made it explicitly so that its Windows Phone app is suspended behind the lock screen. So the correct status should be 'online'. - Test 1: We then used a Skype (desktop version) and noticed person X was listed as 'away'. So incorrect, but at least this seems to match new announced behavior. We send a message to be sure and it arrived instantly.
    - Test 2: We took a Windows Phone, and looked at the status of this same person X. It was flagged as 'offline'. Obviously incorrect. We send a message and arrived, indicating the connection to Skype servers was all fine.
    - Test 3: We then took an iPhone, and looked at the status of this person X. Same as on Windows Phone, the person was listed as 'offline'. Again, send a message and arrived. Person X then started the Skype app, and behold the status changed to 'online'. Person X closed the app again, and the person became 'offline' again.
=> Since it is impossible to keep the Skype app running on Windows Phone, this means this person X will be listed as offline to mobile users 24/7 despite being able to get calls/messages.
=> Also so it seems mobile apps don't know the new 'away' status and map this to 'offline'?
Now, I could be wrong, but I cannot recall ever to have seen an 'away' status in Skype for iOS or Skype for Windows Phone. So I'm suspecting certain mobile devices indeed just don't support an 'away' status. Perhaps this will be solved with an future app update?
    But regardless ...
=> So two different persons will get on occasion a different status displayed for the same individual at the same time!
And of course, just to reiterate, this is on top of the original issue, where it is impossible to see a difference between a mobile user who is connected to a network and a mobile user who isn't (in a plane, out of coverage, phone switched off, etc.). So really, Skype goes from bad to worse here ...
Currently as it is now, the 'green/yellow/gray light' presence indicator is pretty much just a random set of pixels without any consistent meaning. This means Skype is kind of like traditional calls and SMS. You can send a SMS/MMS, but have no guarantee it is read, and with calls you just have to try and see if you can reach the other person. So unless they fix this to pre-February logic, I recommend just removing the whole presence indicator as it will only confuse people.

There are many conference calling sites that accept incoming connections via Skype. For security, they all require the caller to enter a "conference ID" number after the call is answered, before the caller is connected to the conference. The one that I use most often has Skype ID join.conference, but there are many others, such as freeconferencing.com.
I have been using these sites for years with the desktop versions of Skype (Mac, Windows, and Linux), and on my Android phone. All that is required is to initiate a call to the appropriate Skype ID for the conferencing service, bring up a dial pad in the Skype user interface, and use it to enter the conference ID number when asked.
But when I got my new iPhone and tried to do the same thing, there was no way to bring up a dial pad in the latest version of Skype for iOS - WHILE IN A CALL TO A SKYPE ID.
Strangely, it IS possible to bring up a dial pad while in a call on the same version of Skype for iOS, but ONLY if that call is to a telephone number, rather than to a Skype ID. This state of affairs is totally bizarre, unexpected, and dysfunctional.
PLEASE fix the iOS version of Skype so it is possible (and convenient) to bring up a dial pad so that key presses can be sent during ANY call, as it is possible on all other versions of Skype for other platforms.
Here is a list of the previous posts on the Skype for IOS forum that have raised the same issue, about the lack of access to a dial pad while in an established Skype-to-Skype call. They go back through several prior versions of Skype for IOS. Only one has gotten a response that was supposed to be helpful, but that response was off the mark, because it pointed to a help article about how to use a dial pad to place a call, which is not what this issue is about.
Here are links to all of the relevant postings that I have found. They show that this is not an isolated or new problem. A lot of Skype users need this issue to be resolved.
(they all start with "*h*t*t*p*:*/*/*c*o*m m*u*n*i*t*y*.*s*k*y*p*e*.*c*o*m*/*" but without the stars. To turn each of the "links" below into a valid URL, append the above string [without the stars] to the front of it. I couldn't get this to work any other way in the Rich Text posting tool. It kept telling me to "Please enter a valid URL", so I'm trying to make it look like these aren't supposed to be URLs at all ... sorry ....)

  • "Can't connect to Skype." message using iPhone 3G,...

    Howdy, y'all,
I don't use my iPhone 3G as a phone, but occasionally for web browsing and Skype calls. Since I installed Skype several months ago using iFunBox, it's worked adequately for voice calls via Wi-Fi. Today when I started Skype, configured for automatic sign-in, it signed in correctly and showed my contacts. Then the app quit.
Now I can't sign in even when providing my user ID and password for each attempt to run Skype. Skype on my laptop works as expected using my credentials.
Is the Skype server no longer accepting connection requests from iOS client 3.7.4?
    Thanks much.
    Solved!

After searching the Support pages, I discovered that Skype for iOS 4 or earlier is no longer supported:
    https://support.skype.com/en/faq/FA34493/is-skype-for-ios-being-discontinued-on-ios-4-and-below
If you a using Skype 3.x on iOS 4 or earlier, you'll have to upgrade iOS (if you have an iPhone 3GS or later) or, if you're using an iPhone 3G, you'll hafta find some kind of hack to install a version of iOS later than 4.x.

Try this first - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. (This is equivalent to rebooting your computer.)
Or this - Delete the account in Mail and then set it up again. Settings->Mail, Contacts, Calendars -> Accounts   Tap on the Account, then on the red button that says Remove Account.
