Skype to go expenses

Does Skype to go have daily subscription expense? I turned this feature yesterday and my credit is decreasing since!

3. Whenever we place an international phone call, we assumed our unlimited month subscription covered the cost of these calls? Is this not correct?
 4. We have a Skype telephone number, too. Is this necessary in order to subscribe to the unlimited international calls?
5. Final question: sometimes I place international calls on my mobile phone using my Skype app. Does this incur a fee?
Hello and welcome to the Skype Community.
1. Your account shows that your current credit balance is $28.76 after your $25.00  purchase on July 5th 2015.
2. Full details are on your account page. Click on "Usage".
3. It is correct provided the country and number you call are covered by your Subscription e.g. the UK Shared Cost - 0845 number you called is not covered and your credit account was charged.
4. No. It's not necessary.
5. No. It doesn't incur a fee.

  • Skype got really expensive when Microsoft took it....

Has anyone noticed how for years Skype provided fairly good service at a reasonable price?
Then suddenly Microsoft has taken over and POW!  35 dollars a month for unlimmited calls to Mexico?
Can't they see how much competition is going around?  Well, I guess they must see. And if they determine that they can bend us over for 35 dollars it must be because they can. That's the way Microsoft has always been.
I hope somebody comes and takes them off though.

Try the standard fixes to rule out a software problem:
    - Reset. Nothing is lost
Reset iPod touch: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Restore from backup
    - Restore to factory settings/new iPod
if still problem that indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.
I suspect you have a hardware problem.

  • Having trouble viewing USA subscription service be...

I'm planning to be in Europe for the next month and wanted to buy a subscription(s) that would:
    1) enable me to call the USA cheaply (landlines and mobile),
    2) enable me to call USA mobile numbers cheaply when mobiles are also in Europe
    3) call European landline numbers.
I think my best option is to buy the USA and unlimited Europe subscription, then get a skype phone # and finally setup voicemail.  The idea is that I would only login to Skype when in WIFI.  My plan was to buy a simple ATT plan, turn off roaming and set up my iphone in airport mode. Then when I get to a wifi spot, download all and return calls as appropriate.
Does this sound like the best plan for anyone who is actually familiar with this stuff? Are there better plans or other factors I should be considering?
It sounds like Skype has practically zero customer support based on my efforts thus far.
I frustrated by the fact I can not seem to find a live body to chat with or # to call to confirm my expectations regarding functionality and cost for various subscription services--to include the most basic of "viewing" the USA subscription (nothing happens when I click on view)....
Please advise if you have adequate subject matter expertise on these matters--and thank you for your support.

    Thank you, that was helpful.
I'm still struggling to understand why I can't get a USA only subscription, rather than being forced into a USA/Canada version.  I don't have the "buy" option present, but do have the "view" option for the USA only--which doesn't seem to work when I click on it.  Am I missing something?
Also, what are your thoughts about getting a skype phone number?  Will I be able to forward my Iphone calls to it to avoid the high cost of those charges and simply get them on Skype?  My plan was originally to forward to my Verizon digital voice which has the option to forward to my gmail account, but I'd prefer to suspend the service as I'll be gone for a month and assume I can use Skype far less expensively.
Since I'm not planning on making that many calls, simple Skype credit may be the best option, along with turning my call forwarding on to my suspended Verizon account (so I won't get charged by ATT for calls or VMs).  I did pay for the bare bones ATT plan to mitigate risk of excessive charges, but hoping to be in airplane mode with data roaming and fetch options turned off.
I welcome thoughts from others who have negotiated this situation, but I need to make a final decision in the next 24hours as I fly WED.  Thanks again for helping me with this!
Are you looking at the subscription after logging into your account here on the Skype web site (use the "Account" link at the top of the page)?  Since you're in the US, you would be offered the Unlimited USA & Canada subscription, as opposed to a USA-only subscription that other parts of the world are offered.  Why are those two countries put together in a single subscription?  Only Skype can answer that, but my guesses are that (1) telephone rates across the USA and Canada are so low compared to many other countries that it is cost-effective for Skype to do that, and (2) it may simplify Skype's call routing and billing processes since both countries are part of the same +1 country code.   Skype can clearly identify US-bound calls vs. Canada-bound calls, as those area codes do not cross the international border, but for many the border is more like a line on a map than a big fence or wall, as US and Canadian citizens cross that border so many times daily.
Getting an Online Number, and then forwarding calls from your iPhone to that number, would be one way to help avoid the high costs of roaming.  AT&T's iPhones allow the user to set a number for forwarding.  You'd have to consult with your phone's plan to see how much the forwarded calls cost.  For some plans, forwarded calls are not part of any "unlimited talk" plans.  They may have their own allotment of monthly minutes, or have a charge (per call, or per minute). Then you can answer calls at your Skype account, or configure its voicemail to receive messages that you can listen to at a later time when you have access to WiFi and can log into Skype.
Having your phone in Airplane mode with Data Roaming turned off is a very good way to ensure no roaming charges will hit your US phone plan.  Airplane mode by itself should be OK, as that turns off the phone's radios for the mobile networks.  You can then turn on WiFi and use that, whenever you are near a hotspot, without worrying about your phone trying to latch onto a foreign mobile network.  If you don't plan on making lots of phone calls, you can just get some Skype Credit for those calls.  Skype Credit could be used for calling anywhere, not just back to the US, if you needed to call some place in whatever country you happen to be in.
    Good luck!

  • Why calls to Ukraine via Skype more expensive than...

    Hello there!
I often call to Ukraine from Canada to stationary and mobile phones. I would like to use Skype. But the phone companies offers a lowest rate than Skype. Why? Do you plan to change something?
Now my phone calls to stationary phones cost 6 cents per minute. To mobile phones 9 cents per minute. No any extra fees.
     Please take this into consideration.

    Reasons:
    Australian import duties
    Australian taxes on foreign imports
    Australian VAT
Got complaints? Talk to your politicians. Apple has nothing to do with it.

  • Does Skype always charge MORE EXPENSIVE of 2 overl...

Have 2 subscriptions to the same destination. First (cheaper) for landlines and Second (more espensive) for landlines and mobiles.  Based on FAQ below I expected landline subscription is used for landlines and landline + mobile for mobiles at least until one of them exausted.
However when I call landline I'm crarged minutes from the Second (landline and mobile) subscription.  So I cannot use my landline only subscription until landline+mobile is exausted and then Skype will charge me pay-as-you go rate for calls to mobile.
Is that how that supposed to work? Then either I miss something in the statement from Skype website below or this statement is misleading:
If I have more than one subscription that covers calls to the same country, which one is used when I make a call?
Skype is pretty clever about using the subscription that’s best for you. It ranks your subscriptions and uses them in this order:
By minute rate – lowest rate (i.e. cheapest) ranks first
By plan type – unlimited* ranks first, and limited ranks second
By next monthly minutes reset date – nearest ranks first

Any response to this from Skype? This is pretty phony practice IMHO.  Sure, couple of dollars stollen by Skype this way does not validate any serious action from single customer besides just stopping being fooled by this subscriptions scam.  But I hope that some class action lawyers monitor these forums.

  • Skype has Become Too Expensive- Bye Skype

Skype went from $60 a year last year including number and 12 month subscription to $165 a year. It seems the price increase happened as a result of Microsoft buying Skype. I just found a much cheaper solution that is not affiliated with Microsoft so there is hope. Farewell Skype, I was with you for 8 years

  • Skype charges have now become too expensive

I haven't used Skype for some time, it used to be fantastic and very cheap to make calls to other landlines, I receintly started using it again and found I was recharging almost every week, then I decided to check the amount it was costing me for calls, I was staggered to find that a 10 minute call cost me over $3... I decided to call support to see if that was right however, I thing it would have been easier to get into the central bank than get a chat session with skype... so this will be my first and last post as I'll probably get kicked of.... so fairwell skype, I've turned of the auto recharge and now I will now use my mobiles to make calls. I guess it was inevitable that with Microsoft being involved the charges would go up.

Thanks for ur post, u right, i have check other alternatives and all of them are at least 30% cheaper.

  • Is changing a skype-to-go number impossible.

We have had skype-to-go for a while now and it works great, but recently our land-line service provider identified one of the numbers from our skype-to-go list as a "Conference Line" which suposedly is more expensive. So, we want to change the number we dial, keeping the number it calls the same. For example, say we currently dial AAA-AAAA in Toronto and it calls BBB-BBBB in Mexico City. We would like to be able to call CCC-CCCC in Toronto, while still calling BBB-BBBB in Mexico City.
We have tried everything: deleting the entry, creating a new one without deleting, changing the number slightly, etc. Every time we create a skype-to-go entry on our list that is meant to call BBB-BBBB, we *always* end up with AAA-AAAA as the number we must dial. Frustrating!
Is there a solution? Thanks in advance.

    Hello,
You can set up your family members' phones as registered phones and your UK World SIM number as a SkypeToGo contact. This way, your family members can call the local direct-dial numbers to reach your UK phone number.

  • Transfering services on skype

I have an international unlimited call feature that comes annually to renewal in April. I have been reading about SKYPE PREMIUM which seems to have features which include this unlimited call. How do I tell you that I want to stop my international call feature and adopt seamlessly the skype premium solution which is both less expensive and more complete for services?
I looked at the forum pages, no answer
I looked at my account page and could not find a solution for managing my account in this manner
I suggest you look at your site and allow the user to pass from one service to the next, to have a comparative table on services to insure that people understand what they get, what they have, what service is best for them.

PS - I have been receiving for the last 3 months notification that I should update SKYPE. I have tried several times and it repeatedly failed. Then I eliminated skype from my machine and re-installed it. It worked fine but once again I started getting update messages. In the last few days I capitulated and accepted the update. This time it eliminated skype from my machine. You should have a look at this since I cannot believe it's my machine. I am an ex IT Director and know enough to know that my machine is ok. Good luck.

  • Headset for use w/Skype?

Best headset (head phones & microphone) for use with Skype? In Mexico (La Manzanilla, Jalisco, sm town) for 5 months. Do not have phone (landline, cell, nada) & will depend on Skype for incoming/outgoing calls. Also, no stores nearby (radioshack @ 60+ miles away). Order from Apple or from Skype? Mac issues w/Skype products? I know the built-in mic works great, but using wireless access in restaurants... really need a headset. Also, can't go to "any Apple Store nearby" and can't get help via email from Apple with Mac product? A real drag without a phone & out of country (USA). Have Extended Care plan w/Apple, but seems useless right now. Brand-new to Skype & to MacBook so appreciate any help on this issue.

The problem for me is that there are so many on the market and they are all (generally) expensive. If I do buy one, I would much prefer to buy one someone else has used and approved. There is also the problem of transporting it when I go abroad. The last headset I got (Plantonics Digital) is great, with a long cord, good sound, and folds. But even when folded, it's hard to pack in my Crumpler. The Freetalk Wireless Stereo Headset (on Skype) seems impossible to carry.
Help?! ... and Happy New Year,
    Aitan.

  • How to disable Skype Wi-Fi?

Skype WiFi is a very annoying (and potentially expensive) feature and I do not want it.
To start with, I am in hotel and every time WiFi is connected, popup appears asking me to use Skype WiFi.
How does one completely disables it? There is no option in preferences (at least I did not find one).
    Thanks,
    Rudolf

If you are in a WIFI network that is secured then you will need the password, which by the way, is a long number (I believe is about 26 digits). The owner of the network sets this password so there is control over who has access his/her Internet and email service. You can ask that person if you can jump in and join his/her network, if they allow you to do it then they will give you the password key.
I hope this helps… enjoy your iPod touch, its awesome!

  • I want to use SKYPE... what mike do I need & what Prefs are needed?

My G4 has a mike input plug ... But the mike I was using on my old Graphite sys will not fit.
Can anyone recommend a mike to use for SKYPE on my machine and please explain what Sys prefs are needed?
    Thanks in advance.
    Jim B

You didn't say what kind of G4 you had, but bear in mind some Macs have a mic-level input and others have a line-level input. Those with the latter (eg the latest G5 dual core Macs) don't pick up enough sound from a normal microphone without an amplifier. It's confusing because both inputs use a 3.5 mm headphone style plug and they look identical.
So if you're buying a headset that you might want to use if/when you change Macs, USB is the way to go.
I use the Logitech 350 USB headset and avoid the mic input altogether. It's best to use a headset rather than a mic, because the incoming audio from your caller won't 'feed back' into your microphone. You can use non-usb headsets coupled with Griffin's iMic USB adaptor as well, but that's an expensive solution.
    Hope that helps.

  • Using a studio microphone with skype

Hey! So i've recently bought a Samson Meteor USB Studio microphone for recording and such. It sounds flawless in programs like audacity. I tried to use it in skype while playing some video games with friends and the sound quality dropped so much, even my $50 gaming headset's mic sounds better. Anyone know why that is? Is a microphone like this not meant to be used with VOIP programs? My friends complain that they can barely hear me or that i sound depressed lmao, and keep making fun of how bad the quality is. I'd rather use my new studio mic, not my gaming headsets mic though, any thoughts? Thanks!

I don't know I've seen plenty of headsets more expensive than that Mic.  One thing I've learned with Skype is the more bells and whistles a device has, the more problematic it can be with Skype.  I also would suggest initially not doing other things when testing out the mic to narrow down if the issue is mic settings, Internet or USB bandwidth related.  If the USB mic has any hardware modes or virtual software modes/enhanced settings (EQ, Noise cancellation, etc.), I would suggest disabling them as they can distort or limit audio levels in Skype when other apps are seemingly unaffected.  If you are connecting the device through a hub, try directly to a USB port on your computer.

  • Does anyone know if the webcams advertised on skyp...

The skype shop lists a range of webcams but doesnt specifically say that they are compatible with all TV makes.  I have both a Samsung and Panasonic TV so would like get a webcam that will work with both.    Needless to say the manufacturer specific cams are much expensive so would much prefer to purchase a microsoft or logitech one.  Any advice welcome.  Thanks

I just replied to a similar question here.

If you can find an inexpensive 3rd party device that uses the same hardware, if may prove more affordable.   I do not believe you will be able to find a webcam that simultaneously works with two different manufacturers if those models are locked to a specific model/chipset.

If you have the unlimited Europe landlines and mobile subscription you can forward your skype number to mobile phone at no cost. If you go abroad if you use a local sim depending on the country you are in France, Germany. UK, and I belive Italy and a few others you can forward at no cost.  If you use your UK sim while roaming you will need skype credit and it will be expensive depending are where you are.
