Slide show audio

How can I add narration to a slideshow>? I have iLife 5. I've created many slide shows adding music from iTunes. Now I want to add my own voice narration. I bought a microphone from the Apple Store, but I haven't figured out how to get it to record. Do I need some other software, hardware, or what?
iMac   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

Try iMovie to record your audio.....
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=iMovie/6.0/en/imv1077.html
One possible workflow for the whole project:
Build the slideshow in iPhoto and "Send to iDVD." Then import the QT file made by iPhoto into iMovie, and then add music and your voiceover.....then use the iMovie project in iDVD....

  • PSE 8 Slide show audio problem

I am in the process of editing my slide show. I downloaded some MP3 files and when I try to add them, I get a error message.
"Unable to add the audio file ..............."
"The selected file cannot be played because your system does not have the required compressor/decompressor (codec) installed"
Whats going on? The downloaded files are in the same directory as some older mp3 files .....the older files work and will install in the slide show. The newer ones will not.
    Any advice?

Well ..... I solved it myself.  By using itunes I converted the mp3 files to wav files. Why these particular mp3 files would not import into the Elements slide show editor ..........I do not understand. Anyway...problem solved....for now

  • Photoshop Elements 10 Slide Show Audio

    (Not Premiere version)
In creating a slide show (in the Create Slide Show option out of the Organizer), after I add a mp3 audio clip for background music, I would like to adjust the volume as I do narration over the top of it.  The volume slider in the audio properties tab has no effect except for previewing the clip within the tab.  The volume during playback within the slide show remains constant.  What exactly does the volume slider do?

I realize that you said not the Premiere version.
However, I have not been able to lower the volume of the music during Narration using the Create Slide Show option of the Organizer (which is the create slide show that was previously in Photoshop Elements).
1 -- FYI - Premiere Elements does have an Audio Mixer that can be used as an easy method to adjust the volume of the music during the time periods which you choose (for example, during the narration). So that is what I have used.
2 -- Otherwise I think that you may need to use an audio editor to create your soundtrack volume adjustments and then add this "volume adjusted audio" to the Create Slide Show process.  Audacity is a free audio editor for which I have seen recommendations but I have no personal experience with it.
3 -- What will be the final output format for this slide show ?  What software will you use to create that final output ?  Perhaps the answers to these questions will identify another alternative for your audio.

  • Slide show audio - PSE8

Despite repeated attempt to create a slide show with no audio Elements 8 picks music and applies it regardless. Is this a software bug and if so is there a patch to retify the problem?
    Thanks. Shoopa

If you created your slideshow using the slideshow editor you will need to open your project and click on the audio track to highlight it in blue; then hit the delete key and resave.
If you are playing a full screen slideshow from the organizer or from an album; click on the tool icon at the bottom of the screen and in the full screen dialog select none from the background music dropdown menu.

  • IDVD Slide show audio issue

Slide shows created on iDVD look and sound great during preview, however after burning to disk, audio drops out for about 5 seconds after every 99 slides?  I have been told that this is a known issue with iDVD.  How can I correct this error??

There are many ways to produce slide shows using iPhoto, iMovie or iDVD and some limit the number of photos you can use (iDVD has a 99 chapter (slide) limitation).
If what you want is what I want, namely to be able to use high resolution photos (even 300 dpi tiff files), to pan and zoom individual photos, use a variety of transitions, to add and edit music or commentary, place text exactly where you want it, and to end up with a DVD that looks good on both your Mac and a TV - in other words end up with and end result that does not look like an old fashioned slide show from a projector - you may be interested in how I do it. You don't have to do it my way, but the following may be food for thought!
Firstly you need proper software to assemble the photos, decide on the duration of each, the transitions you want to use, and how to pan and zoom individual photos where required, and add proper titles. For this I use Photo to Movie. You can read about what it can do on their website:
    http://www.lqgraphics.com/software/phototomovie.php
(Other users here use the alternative FotoMagico:  http://www.boinx.com/fotomagico/homevspro/ which you may prefer - I have no experience with it.)
Neither of these are freeware, but are worth the investment if you are going to do a lot of slide shows. Read about them in detail, then decide which one you feel is best suited to your needs.
Once you have timed and arranged and manipulated the photos to your liking in Photo to Movie, it exports the file to iMovie  as a DV stream. You can add music in Photo to Movie, but I prefer doing this in iMovie where it is easier to edit. You can now further edit the slide show in iMovie just as you would a movie, including adding other video clips, then send it to iDVD 7, or Toast,  for burning.
You will be pleasantly surprised at how professional the results can be!
To simply create a slide show in iDVD 7 onwards from images in iPhoto or stored in other places on your hard disk or a connected server, look here:

  • Slide show - audio Narration & Sound Track

IN PE7 is there a way to adjust the volume of the audio narration and the background sound track . If I add an audio narration to the slides and add a music Sound track to the show - The music steps on the narration and it can not be heard.

    Robert,
In the PSE 7 slide show editor you could decrease the volume of the music soundtrack for its entire duration - but that may make the volume of the music too low when there is no narration. You can also add multiple music files to a slide show, but creating separate pieces (files) from a music sound track would require additional software to edit the music files and then difficult precise placement of the pieces of music around the narration. In my opinion, neither is really a good answer.
What format do you plan to use for the Output command of your completed slide show?
Do you also have Premiere Elements 7? If no, do you have other video editing/creation software on your PC?

  • Slide Show Audio Problem at Beginning of Show

Very strange occurence that I have never encountered and I'm really stumped.
I have a slideshow that was created in Encore CS4 that plays directly after the main menu.  The show begins normally with two blank slides at the head end for timing and to as a fade up from black.  I use cross dissolves between slide. The music begins with a video at 0 level then the video fades in behind it within three ~ 4 seconds.
Just after or as the first slide advances to the second other close to this point the music stutters for about two seconds then clears up and is fine for the remainder of the show. I felt this was some hiccup with the blank slides or some wierd issue with the audio track so I used a different one and it did the same thing at the same spot.  I the render the slide show in Encore and played it from the beginning--it sounds perfect with either audio track.
I then burned the project to a folder and played the DVD from the folder in a virtual DVD player in Windows--it plays fine.
I then took one of the many disk that I had made while experimenting with different burn speeds and played the disk in the computer dvd drive--the slide show was again fine.
So only when the DVD is played in a DVD player do I have this problem.  This is crazy.  I have done maybe forty different slide show integrations in Encore and never encountered anything like this.  Why would the show play perfectly in Encore and when the burned DVD is played in the computer but not in the a DVD settop player?
This points to the pplayer but this seems odd--what is causing it.  How can I be certain it won't do it in the customer's player?  It does the same thing in another player as well--but it happens to be the same model but if it were a glitch in one player it isn't likely that the same glitch would be in both.  I still think I am missing something here.
Any suggestions please--I can't send this out to the client like this and tell him it's a glitch that I will fix it for obvious reasons.
    Thanks!!

It sounds as if for some bizarre reason, the transition is causing the player buffer to empty out.
This happens on certain - usually older - players when sequential cells are set as non sequential in compiling.
(I had this one bite me - hard - recently, although from a different application).
Best way to check this is to go get a copy of the excellent PGCEdit (shareware) and load the compiled disc.
    http://download.videohelp.com/r0lZ/pgcedit/index.html
Find the main timeline for the slideshow, and double click it. (see attached image)
The "chapters" will be listed, and we need to see these ticked as sequential playback, or seamless.
If there is no tick, add one between each track, save the disc & reburn with IMGBurn (freeware/Donationware)
    http://www.imgburn.com/
For some reason, certain chipsets seem to create a gap when transitioning a chapter marker on a timeline with a single sequential audio stream when the chapter is incorrectly set to non seamless.
This may not be what is happening here, but I think it is worth a look.

  • Slide Show Audio Error Message

I am getting an error message, "The selected file cannot be played because your system does not have the required compressor/decompressor (codec) installed."
This is what the adobe support says about it, "The error occurs because the file contains copy protection, digital rights management, or another mechanism that prevents it from being used outside of designated applications or devices.  To use this content in an Adobe product, you will need to obtain a copy of such content from the copyright holder or their licensee, who are able to provide the content without such copy protection."
Does anyone know how I go about getting that unprotected copy from the copyright holder to use in my slide show?

What type of file is it?
You really need mp3. If it’s a track you purchased from iTunes, try deleting album art before using the track.

  • After adding audio to slide show, can we...

With the help of posts from this forum I got the audio up and running on a couple slide shows. I'd like refine a couple things, so has anybody done any of the following:
    1) Can the pictures in the slide show fade in and fade out for better picture to picture transitions?
    2) Can the play/pause button for the audio be changed? I'd like to add volume and maybe a percent indicator while the audio is loading.
    3) Could the slide show start AFTER the audio is loaded? By the time the audio starts the slide show is usually on the 2nd slide.
    4) Sometimes the audio will not loop. I think this depends on how the slide show window was closed. If the same page is reloaded again, the audio usually doesn't loop. Is there a way to re-initialize the slide show audio to guarantee it will loop each time.
    5) Will the audio work if the end-user doesn't have quicktime on the computer?
I've been using this section of the website for beta testing -

Yes, but you will have to do extra works with javascript. There is a transition variable in slideshow javascript, but there is no control over the slide duration (it's fixed and there is now way to change it). This can cause some strange effects.
    2) Can the play/pause button for the audio be
changed? I'd like to add volume and maybe a percent

Yes, change one of the arguments in QT_WriteOBJECT:
    QTWriteOBJECT('SF_Soundtrack1.mov', '34', '16', '',
    3) Could the slide show start AFTER the audio is
loaded? By the time the audio starts the slide show
is usually on the 2nd slide.
You can put a delay time to call QT_WriteOBJECT function, once again javascripts.

QT is preloaded in a mac, but not so for pcs; so QT needs to be installed on a pc.

  • Mastering and/or mixing narration & music in PSE 11 slide shows

I cannot find a way to get acceptable quality out of slide show audio options in PSE 11. Using clips of a music recording instead of the whole piece produces amateurish clicks or abrupt cuts instead of smooth fade-outs. Mixing narration with background music does not seem to be possible at all. Are there eventual plug-ins or other means available to get around this problem?

  • I want to make a copy of slide show create from my own photographs and with a an audio track behind them. I have carefully followed the iDVD tutorials and burnt the result to a disc but image quality is very poor. What is wrong?

I want to make a DVD of a slide-show with an audio track behind the photographs. I have carefully followed the iDVD video tutorials but the result is far from satisfactory. The quality of the images on the resulting DVD are blurred and indistict although the original photographs are of a very high quality. Where am I going wrong? Would I have better results from a different program than the inbuilt iDVD and if so so what programs have others found to be better? I should be grateful for some expert guidance.

    Hey Falcopebo,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
Looks like you have image quality issues when using iDVD to burn.
iDVD 7.0: Burned DVD has interlacing, pixelation, or image quality issues
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4078
A standard DVD made by iDVD is made to the standard DVD resolution of 720 X 480, which is smaller than most HDTVs and monitors. When expanded to fit the entire screen or monitor, the image will distort slightly due to upscaling to fit the screen or monitor.
    Have a nice day,
    Mario

  • Keynote to iDVD: loss of audio in slide show

I have made a slide show on Keynote with music from iTunes. I export it to iDVD and it works fine from the computer while in iDVD. When I burn the disc, the music from the Keynote slideshow is missing although musc that I have added to menus does play. I want to use the Keynote slideshow and not transfer it to iMovie then iDVD because of loss of quality. I do not want to use the slideshow from iDVD because Keynote provides more opprtunities for effects in the slide show as well as clearer text. I think the problem has something to do with the fact that when I export, on my desktop is a copy of the slideshow AND a copy of the soundtrack.mov. How can I get them together? THANKS!!!

Thanks for the help but I faced the same problem as others with iMovie. Also I am trying to avoid the use of iMovie because the final product, a QT from iMovie, is not as clear visually as an import from Keynote - graphics are a lot muddier. I would have to agree that, as much as I LOVE Keynote, the inability to simply export a slide show with audio intact certainly is a problem with Keynote.
    Also disappointed,
    Jim

  • Why can't I add audio to my slide show from my itunes in elements 11?

I am trying to make a slide show using my newly purchased photoshop elements 11 and I cannot get it to add any audio. It does not recognize any of my files. I know there must be a way to do this but cannot figure it out.

Not copy protection unless these are very old purchases that you never updated. First try eliminating the album artwork, which often solves this.

  • How can I trim audio in a slide show

How can I trim the music in a slide show

You need Photoshop Elements + Premiere Elements in order to trim and mix audio tracks.
Or in PSE make the timings and transitions match the music track.

  • Newbe requests help with audio for slide-show on Premiere Elements 4.

I recently wrote you regarding a problem I was having with a slide show I was making on Premiere Elements 4 importing photo clips and music from PhotoShop Elements 9.  Thank you for your help.
This very large slide show, some 200 clips that I have not resized is completed.  I am now having many problems with the music audio I am adding to various sequences of the slide show.  Specifically:the audio will not stay fixed on the places where I put it and end it.  Working on the Timeline Usually the length of the audio is shorter than the ending of the photo clips where it must go.  I click on the audio and stretch it and end it at the place I designate.  However, the other end has moved also so now I am left with a gap where there is no audio at the beginning of the segment.  Now in addition, the "Delete and Close Gap" does not work most of the time causing me to manually move the photo tiles which sometimes move when this happens.  I have to move each one or two individually to the left to close the gap and many times this causes loss of one or two photo tiles or they are out of order or have increase in number (of the one I am moving).
The program has also shut down for the past 10 days causing me to lose a good deal of work and sometimes photo clips and sometimes I get many duplicates of the photo clips.  All I do is edit mostly the same two segments doing this over and over because I can't proceed to importing any more music because I can't get the first segments correct.  I have chatted with you people, Sony techs, Microsoft Techs and Canon Techs.  The Sony techs suggested the program was at fault and I used the original installation disk and repaired the program.  It has still shut down on me but not as much.
I got error messages on the photo-cap instructions page you suggessted otherwise I would show pictures of the above problems.
I tried to copy and/or cut and paste from the Timeline thinking I would start a new slide show in PhotoShop Elements 9 using the same photos in reverse.  The program would not let me copy or paste.  There is great difficulty in highlighting the photo tiles in Timeline because I have to shift click on each individual tile and there are too many tiles and it would take too long to get a whole segment copied.  Maybe you know another way to do this?
I am at a stand-still now and I am quite despondent because I have been working on this slide-show for 3 months and it was a surprise for my daughter's 25th anniversary that was last Tuesday.
I do hope you have some good suggestions that will lelt me complete this Project and get it on a disk.  I am not that technical so please be specific.
    Thanks in advance.
    Kathy

Here's the basic advice I'd give, based on my experience. Much depends, though, on your goals and the specifics of your computer system:
    1) Resize all of your photos to no larger than 1000x750 pixels in size. This is VITAL if you want the program to maintain stability as you work. Also render often (by pressing the Enter key). When the render, the red lines above the clips on your timeline will turn green and the program will run much more efficiently.
    2) Work on your large slideshow project in shorter segments. You've got over 15 minutes worth of slides. Try working on this slideshow in 5 minute segments, output each segment and then combined the finished videos.
    3) Use only WAV audio as your music and audio for your slideshow.
    4) When you add video, audio or stills to a parallel track on your timeline, hold down the Ctrl key to override the ripple function and your current clips will remain in place.
    5) Maintain your computer by using a tool like the excellent, free, one-click Advanced System Care available at http://www.iobit.com/advancedsystemcareper.html
As for Delete and Close Gap, how it performs depends on whether you've selected Clear or Delete, whether you've pressed the Backspace key or the Delete key and if there is video or audio on a parallel track. (This is all covered in my books, by the way, if you're interested.)
Without knowing the specifics of your project and your situation, it's hard to give out more specific information -- but this advice should get you a long way toward completing your project!
