Slide show loop and quality

Hi, help! I have to put together a couple of slide show presentations for a kiosk type setting, I will have a 2 DVD players available. I will have one presentation with music and about 95 slides and the other presentation of over 100 slides with music. I don't want to leave my Mac unattended while we are in meeting but need the slide show to loop continuously while in the meetings. I know how to make a slide show in IDVD and IPHOTO, but not sure if I can make them loop or is there any other software that would be better or any advice. I need the best quality photos also. My last slideshow presentation using IDVD looked a little less then professional in photo quality. Thanks in advance and do covet the wealth of knowledge out there.

You can set a a slideshow in an iDVD project to automatically play and loop. Go to the Map mode and drag the the slideshow into the far left (blue) bin.
Click to view full size
To loop selet the slideshow in the Map mode and use the Advanced menu.
Click to view full size
You will only be able to have one slideshow per disk play and loop so you will need to iDVD projects resulting in two burned discs.
The slideshow with 95 slides will not present a problem but with the 100+ slideshow you can run into a pause at slide #100. That's because the DVD standard is only 99 chapters per slideshow and each slide, when created from still photos, is a chapter. iDVD gets around this limitation by renumbering the slides back to #1 when it reaches 99. At that point some DVD players will pause briefly or stop. A lot depends on the DVD player being used. Of course if you create the slideshow in iPhoto and export it to iDVD as a Quicktime movie file using the Share->Send to iDVD menu option the pause will not be a problem.
If you plan on using your laptop or Mac to play the slideshow you won't even have to burn the iDVD project to disk. Just use the File->Save as Disk Image, mount the disk image and play it full screen with DVD Player. If you need to create a disc of the project then burn to disc with Disk Utility at the slowest speed available to assure the best burn quality. Always use top quality media: Verbatium, Maxell or Taiyo Yuden DVD-R are the most recommended in these forums.

  • AS 2 for infinite slide show loop

    I don't know if there is a simple answer to my question. Here goes.  I created an infinitely looping series of photos that scrolls from right to left. The animation was created with 6 photos and was animated using AS 3.
    Is there substitute coding using AS 2 in place of my AS 3 coding?
    Or is it more complicated and does it depend on how the photos were set up in my document, how the photos and groups of photos were converted to symbols etc??
    here is my current AS 3 code that works.
    var centerX:Number = stage.stageWidth / 2;
    var galleryWidth:Number = infiniteGallery.width;
    var speed:Number = 0;
    addEventListener(Event.ENTER_FRAME, moveGallery);
    function moveGallery(e:Event):void {
    speed = -(0.02 * (mouseX - centerX));
    infiniteGallery.x+=speed;
    if (infiniteGallery.x>0) {
    infiniteGallery.x= (-galleryWidth/2);
    if (infiniteGallery.x<(-galleryWidth/2)) {
    infiniteGallery.x=0;
    I'm not a coding guru and find my AS stuff through blogs and tutorials and need to be led by the hand.
    Thanks!

    kglad
    thanks for the info - but I did find coding that worked for pausing multiple instances on the timeline in AS3
    I imported my infinite slide show loop as a movie clip at a pause on the timeline and it works great
    Only issue is that the infinite slide show loop pops into the scene instead of fading into the animation
    I found a snippet that fades it out great at this pause - but can't make it fade in this section of my animation
    here is AS 3 coding that fades it out
    any thoughts on the code or what I might do to this code that will make movie clip fade in?
    Do I need to put this fade in code on a different timeline?
    any info will help
    infiniteGallery.addEventListener(Event.ENTER_FRAME, fadeOut);
    function fadeOut(e:Event){
    infiniteGallery.alpha -= 0.01;
    thanks

  • Web Gallery Slide Shows:  Music and Captions an option?

    The title sums up the question. Can web gallery slide shows (on my .Mac account) be made to look and sound like the slide shows i'm running in iphoto - with captions and audio?

    Mark:
    You can get the captions to be displayed in the web gallery by running this script to move the description to the title field before you publish the gallery. After the gallery is published you can change the title back to the file name with the Photos->Batch Change menu option.
    Have you considered using iWeb to create a photo page/slideshow and add the music to it. Here's a test page of such a setup. Be sure to read all of the comments on the linked page as there's a minor error noted in the script that is easy to correct.
    TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
    I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 6 and 7 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • Why are my slide shows disappearing and drop down menus not working?

    I have a huge problem with clients currently waiting on a response from us.
    We have created a website with MUSE, we have implemented slideshows and drop down menus which work fine when you preview them.
    HOWEVER, once we put an editor in place for the client to then input their content onto the website, all of the slideshows disappear and the drop down menus no longer work!?
    What do I do to rectify this problem??
    Thanks Guys

    This actually did work... But, I have figured out that the issue is really in IE7... and for whatever reason the code was making IE8 go into compatability mode (essentially using IE7).

  • Best way to produce a slide show with good quality

    OK, I know this is an ongoing issue, but I am trying to figure out the best way to proceed.
    Made a movie of stills. They are jagged unless there is a title or a transition, then they are very smooth.
    So anything rendered in iMovie looks good. How do I get from here to iDVD without the jagged stills?
    I was even considering putting fake titles over the whole thing (with no text) just to render it nicely.
    Why is this still a problem?

  • Best way to create slide shows in PE4 and PSE 6

    What's the best way to create a fancy slide show in PE 4 and PSE 6? I need to create a slide show of about 600 pictures. I'm on Windows XP with 3gb RAM. I've done this a few years ago in earlier versions of PE and PSE. Before i plunge into this again i wanted to get some overall guidance for what to do or not do.
    My ultimate goal is to create a slide show that:
    1. uses pan and zoom on every photo
    2. transitions between every photo
    3. has an audio track
    4. has some nice special effects -- words and graphics that appear on slide at precisely the right moment to match the song, and stay on the screen as one slide transitions to another. i want the text to be able to move and fade in and out.
    My view is that it's easy to accomplish #1-3 in PSE 6; it's quite simple to create a slide show, add pan and zoom, and transitions. However, #4 is not doable because adding text and graphics can only be done on a slide at a time and only when the slide start/stops (i.e., you can't have text appear 2 secs after the slide has started displaying and stay on screen while the next slide appears). Need PE 4 to do that.
    What i'm wondering is:
    -- is it best to create the basic slide show in PSE6 and then export to PE 4 to do the final fancy stuff, or is it best to just create the show in PE4? Seems that doing the pans, zooms, and transitions are easiest in PSE 6.

    eric,
    I am going to offer some reasons NOT to start this slide show in Photoshop Elements. This is despite the fact that I have used the workflow of starting in Photoshop Elements and used the Send Slideshow to Premiere Elements in PSE5 - PE 3 and PSE7 - PE7.
    1- Timing differences between the PSE and PE slide show construction and processing
    There are many differences in timing between the two products. Transitions can start/end slightly offset from their timing in PSE once they arrive and are processed in PE. Same for pan and zoom. Does this matter? Well the more precise your timing, the more potential for a show stopper.
    Example: one person who wanted continual motion using pan and zoom needed to go modify the transition positioning and the keyframing of the pan/zooms on every single slide after sending a slideshow from PSE to PRE.
    2- your requirement to
    "words and graphics that appear on slide at precisely the right moment to match the song, and stay on the screen as one slide transitions to another. i want the text to be able to move and fade in and out."
    You can't really sync the audio to a slide in PSE. The text can't move or fade in/out. I think that it will be more grief to retrofit these functions to a slide show that was created in PSE than it will be to do the all the work in Premiere Elements.
    3- "Add the sound track for the ENTIRE slide show (this will be longer than i currently have slides for because i don't have all the photos"
    I am suspicious that adding the ENTIRE sound track in one PSE slide show will not work.
    I have done multiple sends from PSE slide show editor to Premiere Elements. However, I decided on the approach of using no audio in the PSE slideshow editor and adding Audio in Premiere Elements AFTER sending all the slide shows.
    Again, your objective of syncing specific photos to music points is good artistically - but I am concerned that it will make your PSE to PRE workflow problematic.
    4- "as new photos arrive, do the arrangement/pans/zooms in PSE and move them to PE"
    As Steve mentioned when you do subsequent sends of the slideshow, it appends to the end - does not seem to fit your objective of replacing part of the middle.
    Also if you get new photos in for the second section of the slideshow - but over in Premiere Elements you had already made other changes in the second section. There is no function to combine new changes doen in PSE and changes done in PE for that same "section" of the slideshow.
    5- you did not say whether you will be outputting this slide show in Full Screen or Widescreen format. Will you be burning a DVD? If you will be doing widescreen output, additional problems with specifying pan/zoom in PSE have been identified on various forums because the PSE pan/zoom boxes are not widescreen aspect ratio.
    Conclusion:
    Some of my comments here are definitely subjective - however, it is my overall conclusion that your objectives and work plan are not a good fit for the Photoshop Elements slide show editor to Premiere Elements workflow.
    My perspective on the Photoshop Elements slide show editor is that it is designed to simple, quick and easy. Therefore it has limitations.

  • IMac goes into iPhoto Slide Show and won't exit unless shut down.

    When I am in iPhoto it will sometimes (no patter) slip into slide show mode with music without my having done anything.  It will play the slide show over and over and not let me exit unless I shut down.  I made a slide show with music when I first got my computer and the slide show always plays this music (R.E.M. "Everybody Hurts"-no jokes please!), but the images can be of any photos I have on the computer. Last time it happened with my Last Import.  Please help as the folks at Apples could only shrug their shoulders and tell me "Wow, never heard that before."

    Take a look at these slide show control keys did you try these, also click on the settings icon in the lower right corner of the slide show and make sure the repeat slide show check box is unchecked. (This applies to iPhoto 11)
    Slideshows
    Stop a slideshow
    Press the Escape (esc) key, or move the mouse to show the slideshow controls, and then click the close button (X)
    Pause slideshow or resume playing
    Space bar
    Move through a slideshow manually

  • How do I make a slide show for a Mac that is not a video file?

    I made a .mov slide show at "Display Quality" using iPhoto on my Mac Mini 2011 and it was 334 MB file size.  When I made a similar show using Photodex ProShow Gold on my Windows PC (Windows executable file) it was only 14 MB and of equal quality (actually slightly higher resolution).  I beleive the differnce in file size is because iPhoto is exporting a movie while ProShow is not.  Is there any way to get the file size of a Mac slide show to a resonable size, yet retaining the quality one can get on a Windows PC?  I would like to place the slide show on my web-site.
    ngc7000

    iPhoto lets you export as a webpage.  This will create a webpage based slideshow of all the selected photos you can upload to your website.

  • Really sliding slide show

    Can anyone tell me how this is done, or send me to a
    tutorial? I would like to use one long horizontal picture where
    only 800 pixels shows. When the user presses advance, the picture
    slides to the left 800 (1000?, my choice) pixels to reveal the next
    segment, and so on. Ease the start and end of each movement. So
    this is literally a "slide" show. And have a "previous" option to
    do the same thing backwards.
    Flash 7 Mac OSX

    http://www.kirupa.com/developer/actionscript/tween.htm
    I've linked this twice today, but it really is a very nice
    tutorial on ActionScripting motion without hand coding
    everything....
    Ahhh flash 7.
    Okay, you'll have to hand code it using either a timeline
    loop, or setInterval.
    function moveToRight() {
    movieClipName._x += 5
    function goToNext() {
    setInterval(moveToRight, 5);
    Calling goToNext will send your mc off to the right, but it
    won't ease, and it won't stop.
    function moveToRight() {
    movieClipName._x += 5
    if (movieClipName >= 800) {
    clearInterval(myInt);
    function goToNext() {
    myInt = setInterval(moveToRight, 5);
    now it will stop. All you'll need now is to match a curve
    with our += 5 (you can do this with % of distance as well... try it
    on your own and see if you can get it to work.

  • Can I make a non-flash slide show using Flash, with JPEGs not GIFs?

    Since Flash .swf is not supported in iOS. I wanted to make a simple photo slide show with high quality JPEGs. How can I do this?

    Look to using jQuery instead of Flash.  There are a variety of redy-made solutions available, just search Google or visit the Dreamweaver forum and ask there.

  • Slide show output to DVD

    As a surprise for my wife, I am trying to create a slide show of our wedding photographs on DVD. However, having created the slide show in PSE6 and saved it as a 'wmv' file, I have not been able to output it to a DVD. I have managed to output it to a VCD, but the quality is extremely poor.
    I would be extremely grateful to anyone who could explain to me how I go forward from here. I should perhaps add that the DVD writer I purchased for this purpose came with Nero 7 Essentials, although whilst this has an option to burn videos to DVD, it does not seem to recognise my slide show file. Is there an economic solution?

    >Is there an economic solution?
    I'm new to slide shows, too, and just got my first DVD burner which included Nero 7 Essentials and I purchased the DVD burner plugin.
    I don't know about PE6 but the wmv output from PE3 when converted to MPG-2 in Nero Vision SE 4.9.7.6 is not much better than my earlier attempts with VCDs. If you want to try it you should be able to get the wmv accepted in Vision by selecting "Make DVD/DVD Video" and then on the "Content" screen selecting "Add video files". Have you applied the update to Nero 7 Essentials? I don't remember if this worked before I did that.
    I've been able to get near commercial DVD quality by using Nero Vision to produce the slide show using the following steps:
    1. Since my target TV is widescreen I use PE Editor to crop the pictures selecting the best view in 16:9 ratio.
    2. Resize the canvas to 107 percent with a black fill to eliminate the effects of the TV's overscan so I get exactly what I want. (The percentage took some trial and error.)
    3. To speed up the process of adding pictures to the slide show in the sequence I want in Vision create a sequenced Collection in Organizer and export renaming to a temp folder.
    4. In Vision go to "Make Slide Show/DVD-Video"
    5. Browse for media/Browse and add to project.
    6. Add preferred Transitions
    7. Optionally Browse to a music track and add it (also created in Nero Essentials from a commercial CD.)
    8. Click Next.
    9. Select "Make Slide Show". (When making a slide show the option to "Create Chapters" is not available.)
    10. Right Click "Title 1" and rename appropriately.
    11. Click Next and Rename "My Disc" if so desired.
    12. Click Next and Next again.
    13. Click the "More" button and set up "Video Options". I use NTSC and for DVD-Video: High Quality, Progressive, High-Quality (2-pass VBR).
    14. If you do not want to produce Chapters to allow "Scene Selection"
    Burn to your DVD burner. If you want Chapters "Write to Hard disc folder". (First time through I'd just burn a test DVD and see how you like it.) If later you want to create Chapters:
    a. Open Vision.
    b. Select "Make DVD/DVD Video" and then on the "Content" screen select "Add video files", open the previous "Write to Hard disc folder". This time Create chapters will be available and you can go through that and burn to DVD.
    Sorry for such a long post but since you are trying to build a surprise for your wife the results of my trial and error may short cut the process.
    I'm unhappy with the music option in Vision. So far as I can see you're basically stuck with whatever length and level is in the track or tracks you choose.
    Good luck.
    Bob
    Edit: Thanks to Barb O I've gotten a lot of info at this very friendly forum http://muvipix.com/phpBB3/

    http://www.projectseven.com/products/galleries/ssm/
    Leaps beyond the ordinary...
    Efficient code and buttery smooth animations make for a truly
    engaging
    user experience. Slide Shows and individual images can be
    bookmarked and
    all images can be viewed - even if JavaScript is disabled.
    Search Engine Friendly
    Unlike many of today's Flash and AJAX applications, Slide
    Show Magic
    markup is always fully visible and indexable by leading
    search engines.
    Auto-Choreographed Animation
    Slide Show Magic detects the size of each incoming full-size
    image. If
    it's the same size as the current image, the system will
    employ a smooth
    cross-fader - simultaneously fading out the current image as
    the new one
    fades in. If the incoming image is a different size than the
    current
    one, the system will fade out the current image, glide the
    image
    container to the size of the incoming image, then fade the
    new image in.
    It's all automatic.
    Staged preloader
    When the slide show is running in automatic mode, the system
    will
    preload the next image as the current one is being shown,
    providing a
    seamless experience in most cases.
    Intuitive toolbar controls
    The on-page toolbar contains conventional media controls:
    First,
    Previous, Play, Pause, Next, and Last buttons. It also
    contains a slider
    bar that allows users to adjust the slide show timing, plus
    buttons to
    toggle visibility of the thumbnail display and navigation
    menu, and an
    image counter.
    Drag-enabled thumbnail panel
    The Thumbnail panel can be dragged about the screen, enabling
    users to
    fine-tune the interface for best viewing of the show.
    Full-Size images can be hyperlinks
    Each full-size image can optionally be set as a hyperlink to
    another
    page, programmed to open in a new window or tab.
    Image descriptions
    Each full-size image can display an optional description,
    which can
    contain any type of valid markup (paragraphs, tables, DIVs,
    lists,
    links, or images).
    Automated image processing with Fireworks...
    Web-ready images are automatically produced from your
    original images,
    which can be located on any drive connected to your computer
    - including
    drives mounted by your digital camera. Slide Show Magic
    handles all
    image processing automatically - preserving your original
    files in their
    original locations in their original and unaltered states.
    Your images
    are scaled, optimized, and neatly organized into folders
    within your
    defined site.
    Import your existing images...
    Point to a folder (or folders) that contain your existing
    full-size and
    thumbnail image and Slide Show Magic will match them up and
    add them to
    your slide show - unaltered and ready to view.
    Organize Images into sets
    Slide Show Magic enables you to define logical image sets and
    organizes
    the thumbnail panel into navigable sets.
    Mix landscape and portrait orientations
    Your images are never distorted in any way. Original aspect
    ratios are
    always preserved. Use both landscape and portrait images in
    the same
    slide show.
    Deploy alone or inside existing layouts
    Slide Show Magic can be inserted on a page by itself or
    inside an
    existing page.
    Select from 6 Themes
    Select a dark toolbar, a light toolbar, shadow boxes (in 3
    sizes), or an
    image rotator interface. Style themes can even be switched
    for existing
    slide shows.
    Manage it all inside a dedicated Dreamweaver Interface
    Add (append) new images
    Delete images or re-order them
    Manage Descriptions, links, and ALT text
    Edit existing full-size or Thumbnail images
    Reprocess all of your slide show's images

  • How do I add more than one song to a slide show

    What if I have a long slide show (300+) and want to have two or three or ... more songs on it? Any one know how I would do this? PS - This is my first ever post on a forum.

    Create a single track out of the multiple songs using audio editing software. Try audacity (free) or if you have a mac, use garage band.

  • Premier 3.02 crashes when breaking apart transferred slide show

    Following the instructions in a reply on the PS Elements forum, when I right click on the scene transferred from PSE to Premier Elements and right click in the menu to break apart the slide show for additional editing, after receiving a "low system memory" warning Premier eventually crashes. The error message is "Sorry, a serious error has occurred that requires Adobe PE to shut down. We will attempt to save your current project."
    I'm running PE 3.02
    Vista Business
    3.00GB RAM
    Video card AT1 Radeon HD 3450
    54.3 GB free disc space
    No browser or Outlook is open and have even closed PS Elements before trying to break apart the Premier scene slide.
    I have had no problems, warnings, or crashes constructing a 30 minute slide show in PS Elements.

    Gina,
    >Open Premiere then try to begin my project in from Photoshop and get the same issue. The message from Windows says shut down due to serious error.
    It is not clear to me WHEN the failure occurs in this scenario. Does Premiere Elements start up OK? Can you open a new project in Premiere Elements? And does it then fail when you have do the Send of the Slideshow from Premiere Elements?
    Or like the original poster on this thread, does it fail only when you attempt to Break Apart the slide show?
    And also - have you deleted or moved or renamed any of the photo files or video files included within that slide show?
    A more general question - have you previously done any projects successfully in Premiere Elements?

  • How can you create a screen width slide show?

    I have created screen width images that resize depending on the screen resolution using the fill option.
    However, when I use any of the slide show widgets and size them to the edge of the site, it doesn't fill the screen width on the live mode. It always leaves a margin.
    What can I do?

    Widgets do not support full width or responsive. I hope they do support it in the near future though.
