Slim errors in journalctl.

I've had this random shutdown a few hours ago, so I naturally looked at the journal to see if something would explain the cause. I noticed some errors about ACPI and the battery*, but I also noticed a lot of slim errors as well.
The errors were multiple occurances of these:
Nov 15 09:37:38 black-rock slim[438]: [678:678:1115/093738:ERROR:base_feature_provider.cc(122)] manifestTypes: Allowing web_page contexts requires supplying a value for matches.
Nov 15 09:37:39 black-rock slim[438]: [1307:1352:1115/093739:ERROR:form_data.cc(108)] Bad pickle of FormData, no version present
Any idea what is causing that?
*The Acpi errors are shown below. I probably should open a new thread about it, but then again it could be just a transient error.
Nov 15 09:37:50 black-rock kernel: ACPI Exception: AE_TIME, Returned by Handler for [EmbeddedControl] (20130725/evregion-287)
Nov 15 09:37:50 black-rock kernel: ACPI Error: Method parse/execution failed [\_SB_.ADP0._PSR] (Node ffff8802238722f8), AE_TIME (20130725/psparse-536)
Nov 15 09:37:50 black-rock kernel: ACPI Exception: AE_TIME, Error reading AC Adapter state (20130725/ac-126)

If you want help in an English forum (except the "other languages" section), you should probably post in english.  There is a way to make your output english by setting your locale to C I think for the given command, but the only language my system is setup for is English, so I don't have this issue.

  • [SOLVED] Error in journalctl after replacing netctl wth NetworkManager

    Following the Archlinux installation wiki, I installed netctl and configured a new wifi profile (I called it "my-network"), some time ago I replaced netctl with NetworkManager and I think I deleted the wifi profile I created (I can't find it anywhere).
    The problem is that now I see this error in `journalctl -xb`:
    Sep 15 11:39:58 wil93-arch systemd[1]: systemd 204 running in system mode. (+PAM -LIBWRAP -AUDIT -SELINUX -IMA -SYSVINIT +LIBCRYPTSETUP +GCRYPT +ACL +XZ)
    Sep 15 11:39:58 wil93-arch systemd[1]: Set hostname to <wil93-arch>.
    Sep 15 11:39:58 wil93-arch systemd[1]: Cannot add dependency job for unit netctl@my\x2dnetwork.service, ignoring: Unit netctl@my\x2dnetwork.service failed to load: No such file or directory. See system logs and 'systemctl status netctl@my\x2dnetwork.service' for details.
    Sep 15 11:39:58 wil93-arch systemd[1]: Starting Login Prompts.
    As you can see, it searches for some "my\x2dnetwork.service" that doesn't exist anywhere on my system. I searched through all systemd services to see if there was someone who wanted that but I haven't found anything. How can I completely get rid of this?
    If I run `systemctl status netctl@my\x2dnetwork.service` as said in the error line, I get:
    [email protected]
    Loaded: error (Reason: No such file or directory)
    Active: inactive (dead)
    Jul 11 16:24:34 wil93-arch systemd[1]: Stopped Networking for netctl profile myx2dnetwork.
    So there's some log dated back on July 11, that I think is the date when I uninstalled netctl. Any ideas?

    Thanks. I've removed the file /etc/systemd/system/multi-user.target.wants/netctl@my\x2dnetwork.service
    I don't know why I haven't found that before. Maybe it was there because I tried reinstalling netctl (now I uninstalled it again).

    I don't know if I did. Anyway, now I know that I probably should have done that.

  • Repetitive Broadcom errors in journalctl

    Hi,
    I've managed to get everything setup on my Macbook Air 2014. I checked journalctl for errors since last boot and discovered that the following is getting logged once a second (also present in dmesg output):
    kernel: ERROR @wl_cfg80211_get_tx_power : error (-1)
    kernel: ERROR @wl_dev_intvar_get : error (-1)
    I think it is referring the the wireless driver. The wireless is working fine for me at the moment. Is there any way stop it complaining (either fixing the issue or just suppressing the error)? I'm using broadcom-wl-dkms from the AUR.
    lspci output:
    02:00.0 Multimedia controller: Broadcom Corporation Device 1570
    03:00.0 Network controller: Broadcom Corporation BCM4360 802.11ac Wireless Network Adapter (rev 03)
    Thanks in advance.

    Hey there,
    I'm using Macbook Air 2014 with broadcom-wl and every kernel upgrade kill wifi (I'm using wifi-menu to connect). What helps me -- uninstalling and re-building package broadcom-wl.

    I'm willing to bet the bank you are attempting a re-install after a previous (possibly failed) installation attempt.
    There's no way to truly uninstall the Sneak Preview once you have attempted a previous install. If you're on XP then use a System Restore (Accessories -> System Tools -> System Restore) and select a restore point on a date BEFORE you ever tried to install the Sneak Preview. After you do, the machine will reboot. Make sure all your prerequisites are still intact and run the install and it should work.
    I did this myself after one week of banging my head on this. Best of luck --Shibli

  • Thunar and LibreOffice crash on open (no errors shown in journalctl)

    My system is completely up to date. I'm running XFCE with a custom theme. I'm not sure if that is the problem.
    Basically when I try and open Thunar and LibreOffice it closes all the open applications and kicks me out to the login screen (using lightdm with the gtk2 greeter IIRC).
    I'm stumped about this. I can't find any errors in journalctl at all.
    The thing is this system has been running well for ages and it is only recently that I have started having problems. I've been able to use Thunar and LibreOffice in the past just fine. The problems started reasonably recently and I can't work out when the problems started.
    Can anyone offer any advice on how to debug this problem please? Thanks.

  • [SOLVED] Broken SLiM after pacman -Syu

    I know that it's good to understand the rolling release approach from ArchLinux and that an update may have unforeseen consequences.
    Yesterday I wasn't that smart and updated my system using pacman -Syu. I'm having the system with SLiM and Cinnamon on top. Now
    when I login I get the message: "failed to execute login command".
    I already googled the error (SLIM+error) here: https://www.google.nl/#q=slim%20error%2 … %20command
    And I've checked .xinitrc and slim.conf. everything looks just fine.
    When I put in my ArchLinux cd, boot from it, /mnt my /dev/SDA1, bash and try to see what error I get from the system then I see a message
    about PulseAudio (but guess my check was useless ). Anyway, my Pacman log is down here, my log from SLiM and Xorg.

    Xorg.0:

    SLiM:

    Am I that stupid? Guess so but well, who can help me out without reinstalling my system?
    My image I built with CloneZilla was corrupted so I'm kind of lost for now.

  • Error just before shutdown

    hello
    i have an error at the end of shutdown, but i can't read it because it's just before the computer switches off. I can read something like "...error...ext4...". I don't know where i can find the error with journalctl. I tried journalctl --all, journalctl _SYSTEMD_UNIT=udisks2.service, journalctl _SYSTEMD_UNIT=systemd-shutdownd.socket, but there is nothing about this error.
    Any idea.

    Thank you, it was a good idea. But the problem is weird. The message is : EXT4-fs(sda3): ext4_da_writepages: jbd2_start: 8192 pages, ino 663752; err -30.
    On google i saw it can be a hardware problem, and the sata port has to be changed, but i never opened a laptop...
    I booted on debian and fsck sda3 (/), i had 2 problems : last mount and write are in the future, it was corrected, and no other problem. Then i boot arch and halt and i see something like : can't unmout /   OK. Then i switch off, boot again, halt again, and the first message comes back : EXT4-fs(sda3): ext4_da_writepages: jbd2_start: 8192 pages, ino 663752; err -30.
    Well, i don't know...

    FAT-fs (sda6): cant find valid FAT filesystem

    Unit home.mount has failed
    The result is failed.
    Dependency failed for Local File Systems
    I think this "bogus number of reserved sectors" has been there since initial installation about 6 months ago, but since upgrading to systemd, its becoming a fatal problem, whereas before when in initscripts it wasnt an issue.
    I tried runing parted, but couldnt see any problems, and didnt know where to go from there.  It is an MBR type table.
    I am able to run my network connection from maintenance mode, and install what i need to.  I was able to get past the maintenance mode and get the system to boot up by running
    mount -t ntfs-3g /dev/sda6 /home
    but when i do that i get an empty home drive
    The funny thing is when i am in  maintenance mode, i can access the home drive no problems.  So it is mounted.

    this was great info, thanks for that.  it really looked promising to me, and it led me to trying things i have not tried before, and taught me a few new things. However, no matter what i try i cant get the users home directories mounted properly on ntfs.  Its probably over the top for me to reach into the AUR and and add another program to solve a problem that's getting over complicating to solve what deceivingly seems to be a rather simple issue.  so i tried your examples of fstab every other way without bind, i even installed what i thought was bindfs, under the name 'bind', all i got to say for that is oops, it installed (Berkeley Internet Name Domain).  As far as the taboo of mounting users homes to ntfs, i am able to reconfigure my system at anytime after i achieve this, but for right now i would rather go through the pains of mounting the user directories residing on sda6 than i would to reformat the drive to another file system type that wont be accessible to windows.  this is mainly for a learning experience, to try it on for size, and to realize for myself why i would or would not want this in the next build.
    in the mean time,  what i tried hasn't work, i have only been able to use the ntfs file system as root, and not able to alter the permissions at that.  looking at my fstab below you can see what i am trying to accomplish, the 'miker' entry has dmask and fmask entries from a root test just to see what it will yield, so ignore that one, but the last 2 entries of users are the way i would like it to be.  can i accomplish this using fstab without having to install bindfs through the AUR?
    # /etc/fstab: static file system information
    # <file system> <dir> <type> <options> <dump> <pass>
    tmpfs /tmp tmpfs nodev,nosuid 0 0
    /dev/sda2 /boot ext2 defaults 0 2
    /dev/sda4 / ext3 defaults 0 1
    /dev/sda5 swap swap defaults 0 0
    /dev/cdrom /mnt/dvd iso9660 ro,user,noauto,unhide,iocharset=utf8 0 0
    #/dev/sda6 /home ntfs-3g agid=users,dmask=022,fmask=133 0 0
    /dev/sda6 /mnt/ntfs ntfs-3g auto,dmask=022,fmask=133 0 0
    #/mnt/ntfs/miker /home/miker ntfs-3g auto,uid,1002,gid=users,dmask=022,fmask=133 0 0
    /mnt/ntfs/liaml /home/liaml ntfs-3g auto,uid=1002,gid=users,umask=027 0 0
    /mnt/ntfs/ellal /home/ellal ntfs-3g auto,uid=1001,gid=users,umask=027 0 0
    as you can see, the fstab wont work because /mnt/ntfs isnt a block device, but its just where i gave up and am asking for more ideas...

  • Systemd error when using separate /var partition

    I recently moved /var to a new partition and have noticed this error in journalctl log
    Dec 05 07:48:00 archlinux systemd[1]: Started Console System Shutdown Logging.
    Dec 05 07:48:00 archlinux systemd[1]: var.mount mount process exited, code=exited status=32
    Dec 05 07:48:00 archlinux systemd[1]: Failed unmounting /var.
    I added an entry in fstab for /var
    /dev/sda4 /var ext4 defaults,noatime,discard 0 1
    Drive is ssd and I simply added the options I have for / is this correct?

    HungGarTiger wrote:The error message is actually showing a successful unmount by journald not being able to write to the log file....
    What? I don't understand.
    The log says "umounting /var" then "Failed to umount /var"
    What I think falconindy is saying is that, yes systemd will still try and fail to umount /var. However, if you add "shutdown" to the end of your HOOKS="" array in /etc/minitcpio.conf and rebuild the initramfs. That shutdown hook will umount /var after all the systemd and journald stuff is no longer running.
    Personaly, I'm just going have journald write the journal to /run/log/journal. I run AIDE before and after every upgrade, so I will know if anything funky happens to my system. A log would be usefull, but as long as I know what files have been changed I can recover them from my backups.

  • [systemd]Unmount error at shutdown + moc

    Hi there,
    I have recently noticed many errors using journalctl:
    systemd[1]: Failed unmounting /home.
    It's always the same issue. I tried to reproduce it and I found what's going on.
    When I shutdown my computer without starting moc (music on console), I have no message. If I start moc and if I use $(mocp -x) then (this command closes the server), I have no issue.
    But when I shutdown my computer, without "killing" moc server before, I have the previous message. I reproduced it several times.
    It's strange because I see no difference when the computer halts.
    There's a similar message here: https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php … 4#p1336594 It might be related.
    I'm almost sure it started with systemd-207-5.
    My fstab:

    # HOOKS="base udev autodetect block filesystems"
    ## This setup will generate a 'full' image which supports most systems.
    ## No autodetection is done.

    ## This setup assembles a pata mdadm array with an encrypted root FS.

    But I'd like it to happen AFTER SIGTERM, because there might be processes still using the containers/devices. How can that be accomplished?
    Ok. I don't know what exactly what you mean by SIGTERM (can't find that in my journalctl logs), but I presume you simply mean it to unmount after mpd/any-other-service has been stopped?
    The answers I got on the mailing list were hard to understand for me in the first place, but at least I now figured out a new way of doing the (un)mounting of tc volumes with an advantage:
    As Matthew pointed out, it may be sensible to use truecrypt for the mapping (to /dev/mapper/truecrypt1) only and let the mounting be done via fstab (thus, fsck's should be more easily possible) via this service & a corresponding entry in fstab:
    [Unit]
    Description=Truecrypt Setup for /dev/sda4
    DefaultDependencies=no
    Conflicts=umount.target
    Before=umount.target
    Before=cryptsetup.target
    After=systemd-readahead-collect.service systemd-readahead-replay.service
    BindsTo=dev-mapper-truecrypt1.device
    [Service]
    RemainAfterExit=yes
    StandardInput=tty-force
    ExecStart=/usr/bin/truecrypt --filesystem=none --slot=1 /dev/sda4
    ExecStop=/usr/bin/truecrypt --filesystem=none -d /dev/sda4
    [Install]
    WantedBy=cryptsetup.target
    /etc/fstab:
    /dev/mapper/truecrypt1 /home ext4 defaults 0 0
    But I think this still means that /home ts unmounted before mpd is shutdown, which I don't understand. OTOH, mpd continues playing the song it was interrupted during shutdown correctly after the reboot… weird

  • [Solved] NetworkManager, DHCPC, LIBNL : NoIP error ?

    Since few, I have problems getting IP adress with NetworkManager, so I switch to WiCD which works well.
    I found this error with journalctl :
    avril 10 09:37:01 x200 NetworkManager[537]: <error> [1397115421.4269] [nm-system.c:287] sync_addresses(): (enp0s25): error -7 returned from rtnl_addr_add():
    Does anybody know how to solve this issue ? I need to switch back to NM because it allows me to manage a 3G/UMTS connection.
    [EDIT]
    it looks quite similar to this bug :

    Doing a fresh re-install of the package seems to have solved the problem
    Using wicd as connection manager
    sudo pacman -Rnsc networkmanager
    reboot then
    sudo pacman -Sy networkmanager network-manager-applet
    with all the systemctl enable/disable needed
    networkmanager also seems to use dhcpcd to get ip now instead of dhclient

  • Connman --nameservers option "Error...not supported"

    I'm trying to set a Nameserver for an SSID with connman and I'm not having any luck.
    ~ $ sudo connmanctl
    connmanctl> services
    *AO ssid_name wifi_c48508086d6c_6669726563617434313533_managed_psk
    connmanctl> config wifi_c48508086d6c_6669726563617434313533_managed_psk nameservers 8.8.8.8
    Error wifi_c48508086d6c_6669726563617434313533_managed_psk: Not supported
    I've also tried setting the 'Nameservers' line manually in the config file /var/lib/connman/ssid_name
    [service_wifi_c48508086d6c_6669726563617434313533_managed_psk]
    Type = wifi
    Name = ssid_name
    Passphrase = secret
    Nameservers = 8.8.8.8,8.8.4.4
    And it still doesn't use the nameserver. Is this a bug or am I missing something obvious??
    Thanks!
    Scott
    Edit: FYI, I've tried both connman from [community] and connman-git from the AUR.
    Last edited by firecat53 (2014-04-04 16:23:20)

    Yes, the nameserver line in /etc/resolv.conf is set to 127.0.0.1, and I've tried numerous times with the connmanctl config command (it accepts the argument with or without the dashes) and still get the same 'Error...not supported' result. I guess that's my point...it doesn't *seem* to be working the way it's supposed to and I'm wondering if anyone else is experiencing this or if I'm doing something wrong
    Thanks,
    Scott
    Edit: Also, there's no entries or errors in journalctl that speak to setting the nameserver. It mentions setting hostname and domainname though.
    Edit1: Hmmm, this is interesting: if I set the 'Nameservers' manually in the config file, it messes with my routing table:
    ~ $ ip r
    default via 192.168.0.1 dev wlp2s0
    default via 192.168.0.1 dev wlp2s0 metric 303
    8.8.8.8 via 192.168.0.1 dev wlp2s0
    192.168.0.0/24 dev wlp2s0 proto kernel scope link src 192.168.0.202 metric 303
    192.168.0.1 dev wlp2s0 scope link
    and I get these entries in journalctl:
    Apr 04 09:57:41 scotty connmand[12997]: Failed to connect to server 8.8.8.8
    Apr 04 09:57:41 scotty connmand[12997]: Failed to connect to server 8.8.4.4
    I'm not sure if that's new or I just never noticed it before....is that normal for connman?
    Edit2: Well, I guess it does work when I manually add the 'Nameservers=' line to the config file for that network. I just wasn't being patient enough. However, using connmanctl to add the nameservers still fails as above, so I'll leave this topic open.
