Slow database connections due to large listener.log

hi gurus
A 9.2.0.8 database running on AIX system,it took nearly 1 seconds to make a connection to the database. I cleared the listener.log which is around 1.2g and restart the listener and the problem solved.
I want to why this happed?Does large listener.log will degrade the performace of listener?
Thanks in advance!

Hi,
Yes, i also faced the same issue and after trimming the listener log, problem got resolved. As far my knowledge as big the log file is it takes time to write in log file (its a general concept if you have notepad file of 100MB and want to write something end of the file then it takes time to load in memory or moving cursor to last position for writing, same concept is here).

  • Slow database connection with mysql

    I am using MySQL Server 5.0 as my backend and java1.5 as my front end for the GUI. The following statements I use to connect to MYSql.
    Class.forName("com.mysql.jdbc.Driver").newInstance();
    String url = "jdbc:mysql://localhost:3306/mysql";
    The database access seems to be very slow.
    I have a data file with about 3000 lines. The parser reads the file one line at a time, formats an insert query and calls executeUpdate. The process takes more than 2 minutes.
    What is slowing down my process? Please help

    ThanksHi,
    1. Are you opening and closing the database connection ,During inserting every record from data file?
    If so, please avoid opening closing connection for each query execution.
    Because , opening and closing the database connection is a time consuming one.
    You should open all the required database connections, before you use them or use
    Database connection pooling if your application is sucah a big one.
    2. Try PreparedStatment instead of Statement. Because Prepared statment query is
    compiled and stored into Cache. so if you are executing the same query again and again, the compiled query will be picked up from cache, by replacing with new
    parameters
    3. Check the logic you used to pick record from datafile and insert into database .
    4. Check your RAM size , if you installed database and jvm on same machine.
    if so , increase your RAM size.

  • Slow internet connection due to firefox

    When using Firefox 13, my internet connection slows down. When using 'speedtest' the download stays at 4,14Mbps. Ping is 92ms. When using another browser (IE or Google Chrome) I'm at 128,87 Mbps. Ping is 13ms. Is there a reason why this is happening. I've already contacted my provider to complain but after using another browser I saw that the only problem is Firefox.

    maybe this is an issue with the latest flash update & adobe's introduction of the protected mode - try disabling the protected mode or downgrade to a prior flash version to see if this is making a difference...

  • Immediate HELP in Tomcat 5 to Postgresql 7.4 database connectivity problem

    Hi,
    I failed to connect Tomcat 5.0.24 with Postgresql
    7.4.2. The files created by me and the changes i had
    made in the existing files are rates.jsp,
    conversionDAO.java, web.xml and server.xml. The error
    message on the top of the rest of it was "The value of
    useBean class attribute converter.conversionDAO is
    invalid". So far I found out that the coding for
    database connectivity purpose in conversionDAO.java
    cause the error. Another thing is Postgresql jdbc
    driver is required to set in the CLASSPATH for the
    java file to access the Postgresql database. I don't
    know where should I put it in Tomcat for web

  • Listener EA2: database connection pool and connection revalidation

    Hi all,
    As one can expect from early adopter release there could be some bugs but I can't find any references in forum to my situation:
    * My 11g XE database and listener are starting as windows services when server boots operating system (Windows Server 2003 R2).
    * I configured my web server (unsupported Jetty 9.0.0.M1) to start as windows service when operating system starts.
    * Apex Listener 2.0.0.268.17.05 configured to connect with XE using JDBC thin driver with default settings (initial pool size 3, max statements 10, min connections 1, max connections 10, inactivity timeout 1800, abandoned connection timeout 900)
    * Because web server starts a bit faster than Oracle database when apex connects first time it gets "ORA-12528, TNS:listener: all appropriate instances are blocking new connections" (could be that database still starting but already registered service with listener)
    * From listener.log file I can see that all further connections made from Apex listener succeeds
    * When I try to open any apex page with browser I am getting 404 error and apex listener logs error (*time is 2 days after system startup*):

    * For some reason apex listener keeps first connection status and won't try to establish new connection if first attempt finished with ORA-12528
    * The same scenario is valid when at time of web server start oracle database/listener is not available - even if database and listener starts and apex successfully establishes further connections all apex pages gets 404 error
    * If I restart web server windows service (while oracle db and listener still running) browser opens apex pages without errors and apex listener does not log any errors
    * I know that I can avoid this error delaying start of web server windows service but it would be nice to have production release 2.x without such bugs

    Hi,
    Is there any way to use the connection pool or Datasource while connecting to database?If I am using a stateless sesssion bean and using a Data Access layer which just creates a database session to write the persistence toplink objects how I can make use of application server connection pool?Hi Vinod,
    Yes, TopLink allows you to use the app server's connection pooling and transaction services. Chapter 2 of the Oracle9iAS TopLink Foundation Library Guide provides details as do the TopLink examples. The easiest way to set this up is by using the sessions.xml file. The sample XML below is from the file <toplink903>\examples\ias\examples\ejb\sessionbean\sessions.xml. Here we are adding the datasource defined in OC4J and specifying that we are using the OC4J transaction controller also.
    <login>
    <user-name>sa</user-name>
    <password></password>
    <datasource>java:comp/env/jdbc/ejbJTSDataSource</datasource>
    <uses-external-transaction-controller>true</uses-external-transaction-controller>
    <uses-external-connection-pool>true</uses-external-connection-pool>
    </login>
    <external-transaction-controller-class>oracle.toplink.jts.oracle9i.Oracle9iJTSExternalTransactionController</external-transaction-controller-class>
    When using this approach you need to change your TopLink code slightly in the EJB methods:
    a. Acquire the ACTIVE unit of work from the server
    session (again, see the EmployeeSessionEJB code
    example) with something like:
    UnitOfWork uow = clientSession.getActiveUnitOfWork();
    b. Calls to uow.commit() can be ommitted or commented out
    because the EJB will handle this. Note that of course
    the methods you create in the EJB that are using this
    approach must have TX Required (default).
    Hope this helps.
    Pete

  • Information listener.log on database

    Good afternoon,
    I got problem to get from what souce that connect to oracle.
    my question :
    does oracle save the information about the listener.log in database ?
    I can see in listener.log there are information about source program that connect
    to oracle, example EXCEL.EXE
    I want to use it to create logon trigger and not allowed user to connect using ms excel.
    If I use v$session field program, it seem I could not get it.
    example :
    if the user used shortcut in screen then the information exel.exe is not there.
    Thanks

    Thank you very much for replaying.
    If the user using the shortcut, it doesn't show the excel.exe or access.exe,
    (actually if v$session on field program show it, it's ok for me, because if they rename the name acess.exe become my.exe, I will validate in my trigger logon, only sqlplusw.exe or ifrun60.exe are allowed to connect to the oracle, so another products are not allowed).
    my testing :
    1. open microsoft Access then open connect to oracle
    SQL> select program from v$session
    PROGRAM
    ORACLE.EXE
    ORACLE.EXE
    ORACLE.EXE
    ORACLE.EXE
    ORACLE.EXE
    ORACLE.EXE
    C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\OFFICE11\MSACCESS.EXE
    SQLPLUSW.EXE
    C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\OFFICE11\MSACCESS.EXE
    11 rows selected.
    2. create shortcut for Ms Access file on desktop then open it (double click) then connect to oracle
    SQL> r
    1* select program from v$session
    PROGRAM
    ORACLE.EXE
    ORACLE.EXE
    ORACLE.EXE
    ORACLE.EXE
    ORACLE.EXE
    ORACLE.EXE
    C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator.USR1\Desktop\Shortcut to
    SQLPLUSW.EXE
    C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator.USR1\Desktop\Shortcut to
    11 rows selected.
    test no.2 didn't show up the MSACESS.EXT, but
    C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator.USR1\Desktop\Shortcut to
    and I guess it was cut because the length field program on V$session only 64 char.
    I think PRODUCT_USER_PROFILE is basing on user, I have never tried it yet, but if base on user, I don't think I can use it. I need to protect base on computer / terminal.
    any suggestion ?

  • ORA-12535 error but TNSPing Works and listener logs connection

    We recently migrated our firewall and then started seeing this problem for users outside of our own subnet. However, although the user gets this error when launching the application, the workstation is able to TNSPing the server successfully and listener.log does log the connection.
    I was hoping someone might have some ideas or suggestions as to what might be causing the error despite the apparent connectivity to the database.
    Thanks in advance.

    Thanks so much for the suggestions.
    1. telnet <host> 1521 connects

    I've been doing more research on this -- please note that I'm not an Oracle dba so I am just getting familiar with lots of things -- and have learned that user connect requests come in through 1521 but are then randomly redirected to other ports. Given the new firewall, I'm wondering if it's an issue that the random ports being selected aren't open for the users outside of our subnet. Does this sound like a plausible explanation? If so, how do administrators generally handle this -- by opening the necessary ports on the firewall? Is there some other standard approach?
    Again, thanks so much for any assistance you can provide.

    Thanks In Advance,

    This is basically not a RMAN problem,but a media management issue,which has to be addressed to the TSM staff:
    ANS1314E
    File data currently unavailable on server
    Explanation:
    The file data is currently unavailable on the server. A retrieve or restore operation was attempted. Possible causes are:
    Data was corrupted at the server
    Server found a read error
    File is temporarily involved in a reclaim operation at the server
    Server requested a tape volume that was marked unavailable.
    System action:
    Processing stopped.
    User response:
    Retry the operation. If the problem continues, see your system administrator to determine the problem from the server console or the activity log. Check whether any requests were made for a tape volume that was unavailable. A tape volume may be marked unavailable if prior read errors were encountered or the volume is checked out of the tape library.

  • Standby database is not applying redo logs due to missing archive log

    We use 9.2.0.7 Oracle Database. My goal is to create a physical standby database.
    I have followed all the steps necessary to fulfill this in Oracle Data Guard Concepts and Administration manual. Archived redo logs are transmitted from primary to standby database regularly. But the logs are not applied due to archive log gap.
    SQL> select process, status from v$managed_standby;
    PROCESS STATUS
    ARCH CONNECTED
    ARCH CONNECTED
    MRP0 WAIT_FOR_GAP
    RFS RECEIVING
    RFS ATTACHED
    SQL> select * from v$archive_gap;
    THREAD# LOW_SEQUENCE# HIGH_SEQUENCE#
    1 503 677
    I have tried to find the missing archives on the primary database, but was unable to. They have been deleted (somehow) regularly by the existing backup policy on the primary database. I have looked up the backups, but these archive logs are too old to be in the backup. Backup retention policy is 1 redundant backup of each file. I didn't save older backups as I didn't really need them from up to this point.
    I have cross checked (using rman crosscheck) the archive log copies on the primary database and deleted the "obsolete" copies of archive logs. But, v$archived_log view on the primary database only marked those entries as "deleted". Unfortunately, the standby database is still waiting for those logs to "close the gap" and doesn't apply the redo logs at all. I am reluctant to recreate the control file on the primary database as I'm afraid this occurred through the regular database backup operations, due to current backup retention policy and it probably might happen again.
    The standby creation procedure was done by using the data files from 3 days ago. The archive logs which are "producing the gap" are older than a month, and are probably unneeded for standby recovery.
    What shall I do?
    Kind regards and thanks in advance,
    Milivoj

    On a physical standby database
    To determine if there is an archive gap on your physical standby database, query the V$ARCHIVE_GAP view as shown in the following example:
    SQL> SELECT * FROM V$ARCHIVE_GAP;
    THREAD# LOW_SEQUENCE# HIGH_SEQUENCE#
    1 7 10
    The output from the previous example indicates your physical standby database is currently missing log files from sequence 7 to sequence 10 for thread 1.
    After you identify the gap, issue the following SQL statement on the primary database to locate the archived redo log files on your primary
    database (assuming the local archive destination on the primary database is LOG_ARCHIVE_DEST_1):
    SQL> SELECT NAME FROM V$ARCHIVED_LOG WHERE THREAD#=1 AND DEST_ID=1 AND 2> SEQUENCE# BETWEEN 7 AND 10;
    NAME
    /primary/thread1_dest/arcr_1_7.arc /primary/thread1_dest/arcr_1_8.arc /primary/thread1_dest/arcr_1_9.arc
    Copy these log files to your physical standby database and register them using the ALTER DATABASE REGISTER LOGFILE statement on your physical standby database. For example:
    SQL> ALTER DATABASE REGISTER LOGFILE
    '/physical_standby1/thread1_dest/arcr_1_7.arc';
    SQL> ALTER DATABASE REGISTER LOGFILE
    '/physical_standby1/thread1_dest/arcr_1_8.arc';
    After you register these log files on the physical standby database, you can restart Redo Apply.
    Note:
    The V$ARCHIVE_GAP fixed view on a physical standby database only returns the next gap that is currently blocking Redo Apply from continuing. After resolving the gap and starting Redo Apply, query the V$ARCHIVE_GAP fixed view again on the physical standby database to determine the next gap sequence, if there is one. Repeat this process until there are no more gaps.
    Restoring the archived logs from the backup set
    If the archived logs are not available in the archive destination then at that time we need to restore the required archived logs from the backup step. This task is accomplished in the following way.
    To restore range specified archived logs:
    Run {
    Set archivelog destination to '/oracle/arch/arch_restore'
    Restore archivelog from logseq=<xxxxx> until logseq=<xxxxxxx>
    To restore all the archived logs:
    Run {
    Set archivelog destination to '/oracle/arch/arch_restore';
    Restore archivelog all;
    }

  • THE DATABASE CONNECTION IS LOST :;; WIERD  ORA-01012 NOT LOGGED ON ERROR

    ERROR: ORA-01012 NOT LOGGED ON ERROR
    I AM USING A JAVA SWING INTERFACE (JDK 1.1.8), WHICH USES JNI TO CALL C PROGRAMS WHICH IN TURN CONNECTS TO THE DATABASE, ORACLE 8.1.6.
    A DATABASE CONNECTION IS ESTABLISED IN THE MAIN CLASS BY CALLING A FUNCTION FROM THE CONSTRUCTOR.
    FOR ALL OTHER FUNCTION CALLS WHICH ARE MADE FROM WITHIN THIS CONSTRUCTOR, THE CONNECTION STAYS.
    BUT AFTER THE CONTRUCTOR CALL IS COMPLETE, DATABASE CONNECTION IS STRANGELY LOST. THUS ALL OTHER FUNCTION CALLS FAIL BECAUSE OF CONNECTION ISSUES GIVING ORA-01012. THOUGH IF I CHECK UP IN THE DATABASE, THE CONNECTION DOES FIND AN ENTRY.
    SO IT APPEARS THAT SOMEHOW THE JAVA INTERFACE LOOSES TRACK OF CONNECTION. BUT STRANGELY ALL THE FUNCTIONS WORK IF CALLED FROM THE CONSTRUCTOR......... BUT THATS NOT THE IDEA.
    PLEASE HELP, THIS PROBLEM IS BUGGING ME FOR WEEKS NOW.
    THANKS
    AMIT

    apologise for the caps lock.
    i am working on a previous system with java swing front end which alread uses jni, and connects to database using pro *c.
    My problem is that the connection is lost as soon as the constructor of the main class is run, giving an
    ORA-1012 NOT LOGGED ON ERROR.
    But if i place the same calls in the contructor all the database call work.
    It somehow appears that the java interface looses the connection context. Though the session does find entry in the oracle dynamic tables as long as i dont close the front end main window, thereby meaning that its the jave interface which looses the context.
    part of the code of the main class eiquser.
    //constructor
    public EiqUser() {
         super();
         initMRI();
    private void initMRI() {
         try {
              /* initialize geoManager environment */
              int rccc = new EiqCfuncs().eiqInitEnv();
    //eiqinitenv is a c function which connects to database using pro *C
              EiqCfuncs cfuncs = new EiqCfuncs();
              //EiqCfuncs has the prototypes of c functions used bye the java interface
              this.ivjFileMenu.setText(cfuncs.eiqGetText(resNum.getTEXT_FILE_MENU())); // sets the menu name
    and so on.........
    public void eiqUser_WindowClosed(java.awt.event.WindowEvent windowEvent) {
         new EiqCfuncs().eiqTermEnv(); // gives ora-1012 error
    //eiqtermenv is supposed to disconnect from data base, but returns an ora-1012 not logged on erro
         return;
    //eiqtermenv closes the connection with the data base. But fails in this case. if i place the same call ( eiqtermenv) in the initMRI function or the contructor it succeeds.
    Plus if i dont use the java interace and use a c stub for executing the same sequence of functions, then i dont face any problems.
    the proc calls exectuted ultimately by...
    :::eiqinitenv
    exec sql connect using :sqlid identified by sqlpw; // succeeds giving sqlerr.sqlcode=0;
    ::::eiqterm env
    exec sql commit work; //fails giving 0ra-1012 error
    exec sql rollback work;
    Why is the java interface loosing track of the connection once done with the constructor of the main class?? The session still finds an entry in the oracle dynamic tables.
    Please help
    Thx
    Amit

  • CR XI not responding when connecting to a large visual fox pro database

    Using Microsoft FoxPro VFP Driver (*.dbf) I cannot connect to a large (100mb) visual fox pro database.  Any suggestions would be welcome.

    Hi Tim,
    First thing to do is upgrade for free to CR XI R2 SP 6:
    https://smpdl.sap-ag.de/~sapidp/012002523100011802732008E/crxir2_sp4_full_build.exe
    https://smpdl.sap-ag.de/~sapidp/012002523100015859952009E/crxir2win_sp6.exe
    Use your XI keycode when installing.
    Not Responding is actually misleading, It's how Windows works, CR is waiting for the database info, tables, fields, etc. to be returned from the DB file and Windows defaults to Not Responding while this is going on. If you wait, and not sure if you did, Windows should return control to CR.
    Try using ODBC or OLE DB to connect also.
    Thank you
    Don

  • Allow grid control agent to connect to a database as sys with no listener

    Hi
    I have a database which I would like to monitor using the 10g grid control agent.
    the agent and DB are on a Unix Box
    The database has a listener, but because it is part of a contingency system we keep the listener shut down
    my question is:
    Is it possible to configure the agent to connect to a Database (as sysdba) without the listener for that database running?
    Regards

    No its is not possible if listener is not running

  • Slow Initial Database Connection

    I think I have a slowness issue with the initial Oracle database connection. When I try to connect initially, the connection , it takes a long time. Is there anyway to speed this up...
    I am using encryption and jdbc on oracle.
    This takes a good 20 - 30 seconds....
    Class.forName("oracle.jdbc.driver.OracleDriver");
    PARAMETERS.put("oracle.net.encryption_client","REQUIRED");
    PARAMETERS.put("oracle.net.encryption_types_client","DES40C");
    PARAMETERS.put("oracle.net.crypto_checksum_client","REQUESTE");
    PARAMETERS.put("oracle.net.crypto_checksum_types_client","MD5");
    PARAMETERS.put("user",user);
    PARAMETERS.put("password",password);
    connect = DriverManager.getConnection(dbUrl,PARAMETERS);

    Didn't I answer this question?
    The process of encrypting the connection, and generating MD5 checksums for each message sent over that connection both take considerable time to set up and the only way to make it go faster is to throw more processing power at it (i.e., get a faster computer), or switch to a far weaker form of encryption (but that means we can break the code in mere minutes).
    This is a known feature. This is why the National Security Agency (NSA) and the National Reconniassance Office (NRO) have more supercomputers than any other US Government Agency.
    If time really is a factor, then I suggest that you drop the MD5 requirement. MD5 essentially confirms that you have received all of the data you are expecting (and in a particular order) and no more than that. Attempting to decrypt DES also confirms that you have received all of the data you wanted (in the correct order) and no more than that. In other words, the two functions are redundant.
    However, MD5 is a one way function whereas DES is two way; DES allows you to decrypt the message itself, but MD5 only allows you to confirm that the message is genuine. Hence, drop MD5 in favor of DES.
    If you're really interested in rewriting the DES and MD5 schemes for more speed, do some reading on the cryptography forums, or check out an appropriate book at the library.
