Slow Infinity and incompetent staff.

My Infinity has been slow for almost 2 weeks now. Getting "speeds" of 2-8mbps. It used to be 20+.
I've been trying to get this fixed.
Firstly it took BT ages to understand I am not availible before 7pm as I am in work.
Then when I went through online to chat to a technical advisor they said my profile had not been updated and an engineer will be sent to fix it. They did that and it's still slow.
Last night at 8.55pm they phoned only to say there's an error on their system and can they call back tomorrow.
They've just called saying it my be a faulty ADSL filter and to plug in my spare one. I said I'll have to go find it and try it.
They said they'll call back tomorrow.
I found the filter and got to my phone socket only to find with fire optic broadband an ADSL filter isn't even used as there are 2 sockets, 1 for the phone and an added on one that was attacted when the Infinity was installed. Surely the staff should know how these systems are set up!
If this isn't fixed by Saturday I'll be going over to Virgin.

  • Errors and incompetent staff

Does anyone else find Bt business billing grossly incompetent?? I've had 10 months of billing errors, incurred hundreds of pounds of fees and constantly get calls to pay for a website that doesn't work. I've paid for changes and nobody has called me. The site is live and is a pile of rubbish that doesn't work properly, a humiliation for my business. Does anyone else find Bt service appalling???

  • Bt infinity 2 slow speeds and disconnection

hi all hi all after having spent over two hours on the phone with BT being passed from post to post from billing to technical support back to billing people slamming phones down on me and no  help what so ever today 22/05/2014 have been with bt over 5 years phone  line the broadband and all services
    it a joke now
2012 I have had fibre optic broadband service with BT and all was ok till November 2013 when start have slow speeds and in January year 2014 started having disconnections reconnection connections form 5 mins to to 60mnis or sum times 2mins  of the broadbands and the connections sometimes 3 to 4  times a day disconnections and so on .... when was supposed to be fixed the upload speed was very slow and the download speed was okay when I first started with BT with the fibre-optic broadband two years ago nearly I was averaging about 42 meg per day and average speed of upload was 6.5 Mag
but now 32.meg dowm /up is 3.5 Rwent off in February he did a shift in lift because the broadband was 42 meg download bought lacked upload speed of less than half meg for the day of the lift it ran at 52 meg  with an average upload speed of about seven meg from around February till the end of February then stat act erratically reboot the bt hub 4 rebooting all time DSL light off on the main openreach modem in one day was off and on 36 times
had  engineers visit last week 14th of May to test line all was ok with line but i had now found out that bt they'll are now only selling me option one broadband fibre-optic even though I am paying for option two they now states that the speed on my line will never go above 36 meg so why am I paying for option 2 fibre-optici be through to the billing department today said yes you are an option 2 but  the technical department to say my line will only support 36 meg and I did find out from the engineer that I am on option one and only for the supply of the broadband line but have been pay for BT infinity option2
I think this is just an easy way for BT to get out of fixing the mind correctly by downgrading the line but wanting the customer to carry on paying for option to have tried with billing to sort this problem out today they just said you need to speak to technical support technical support what support manages to say you need to speak to billing one of them even slammed the phone on me
No customer support spent over two hours on the phone today and got nowhere and one department saying we can downgrade you to option one broadband but it will cost you £30 to do so
who i speak to if billing are no help at all ??????

  • Bt are a bunch of thieves, bullies and incompetent...

Here we go guys, this is my story with my encounter with the infamous BT.
After a year of acceptable service it was unfortunately time for me to move house. As my contract with bt was coming to an end we decided to renew our contract and set up a home move after being told that our new house had a bt line. We found out the next day the new house did not have a BT line. We then called BT to cancel and was told it was about 30 pounds to cancel the contract which I thought was ridiculous as the contract had only been agreed 24 hours ago. I reluctantly agreed to pay this and all was well. At the end of the month 30 pounds came out of my account and all was rosy.
After moving house and setting up our new services with Sky (who are excellent by the BT), my wife and I decided to merge our accounts a couple of months later. Lo and behold we saw that we had been paying money every month to BT for our old house. Unhappily I called BT and after lengthy conversations with incompetent customer service advisors it was found the only thing that was cancelled was the home move not the contract.
I then asked them to listen to the phone call that they claim to record and listen to us stating we wish to cancel our contract and the advisor confirming this. BT then sent us a bill for over 150 pounds to settle the contract. After complaining about this I got passed from pillar to post with many incompetent fools repeating we agreed to the terms and conditions of the contract therefore had to fulfill it. After letters and e-mails asking the company To reconsider as I believe they have broken trading laws by not informing me on how much the cancellation charge would be which could affect my decision to cancel and the original advisor LYING telling me my contract had been cancelled not just the home move, myself and my wife felt intimidated to pay as they started mentioning debt collectors and defaults if we refused to pay. All we asked for was to be released from the contract free of charge, not even a refund for the 3 months we paid at a empty house, not much to ask really as it was their fault.
Well BT this is for you now. I have consulted legal council and they agree we have a case against yourselves and will be pursuing legal proceedings. We will not be bullied by a thieving company like yourselves. We are also in contact with trading standards and have passed all correspondence to them who are currently investigating as stated in our unresolved letter to yourselves. To stop you doing this too other people I have also given all information over to watchdog researchers so make sure you smile when your on the bbc if your not to cowardly to go on.
For everyone reading this if you feel like you have been wronged by companies like this, don't just allow them to bully you. Contact legal teams or ombudsmen and we will stop these thieving bullies. Thanks for listening and we will see if anyone from BT dares to comment.

Got to say that I completely understand. I was a long standing (10 year plus) customer who has just had the experience that I had always dismissed from others as "over egging it!".
My experience was with asking BT to help with nuisance calls.... They put me through to a foreign call centre (pretty standard so far) and explained that they couldn't help me unless they charged me for a service, I was unhappy about the charges and was escalated to a manager who had spoke to me and 100% confirmed that there would not be any charge on my account.
3 months later when by bill is produce I have 50 in charges for a service I never authorised to be charged to me. I called the customer service teams and spoke to UK Customer retention teams etc only to be told that they pulled the call, and did not have a recording of the conversation with the manager, therefore I must pay?....
After multiple calls and after the 4th evening spent pulling my hair out with the teams trying to explain why I want the charges removed I finally said ok I want to leave..... I am then put through to apart another team.
During the ensuing conversation the gentleman put in a cease service request and then explained to move I would have an issue if the service was stopped. Realising the this would be a mistake I asked him to stop the cancellation order and give me the Mac code - I was told this was done and all was fine.
Last night I called the customer services team again reference the erroneous charges on my account and finally get to an official complaint being raised. However this morning at 10am I return home to find my phone and internet service has been cancelled!!!
I have called BT asking them to put the service back on until we resolve the billing issue, only to be told they cannot until I commit to another 12 months (effectively holding a gun to my head!)....
I have now decided to leave these bullies and move my broadband / tv and phone to another we'll know provider. I will keep up the fight with their customer service teams until they recognise that they have contravened every consumer protection regulation I can think of in this space, and they have lost a loyal and supportive (and lucrative) customer in to the mix.
I will be ensuring that all of my staff (for whom I pay their b.band as homeworkers) migrate off the service and any business premises I work with in the future avoids this target driven, un sympathetic and incompetent customer service team!
I understand BT received Money Week's WOODEN SPOON for their readerships voted Worst Customer Service of 2013 (managing to beat the tax man by dole the number of votes!)...... How times change eh! What happened to Busbee!
    Disappointed....

  • Run e-tester from a server and have staff remotely update scripts

Can we run the floating e-tester from a server and have staff remotely access the server to run and update scripts instead of installing the client on everyone's workstation?

    Original Question:
Can we run the floating e-tester from a server and have staff remotely access the server to run and update scripts instead of installing the client on everyone's workstation?
There are different alternatives to consider and different ways to answer the question.
    1) You can run e-Tester with a floating license from a server and have people to use remote desktop to run and create scripts.
    Pros:
    * Multiple users can be updating scripts in the server at the same time.
    * There is no need to install e-Tester in any other computer.
    Cons:
    * If the max number of floating licenses is reached no other person can open another instance of e-Tester.
    * Having multiple people running scripts in the Job scheduler will create conflicts therefore is not recommended. Running multiple instances of e-Tester manually shouldn't cause problems, but it is a slow way to do regression testing. The job scheduler can run a script after another without user intervention. Teamwork can be affected if the default settings are changed by different users.
    * Running thru remote desktop(or any other remote tool such as vnc) is slower than having etester in the computer. The refresh rate of the screen tends to be slower.
    * If multiple users are using the server resources at the same time it can slow down the work of others. The server can run out of memory or it will be slow because the CPU running near max capacity.
    2) You can run eTester with a node lock license from a server and have people to use remote desktop to run and create scripts.
    Pros:
    * Multiple users can be updating scripts in the server at the same time.
    * There is no need to install eTester in any other computer.
    * Only one license is required.
    Cons:
    * Having multiple people running scripts in the Job scheduler will create conflicts therefore is not recommended. Running multiple instances of etester manually shouldn't cause problems, but it is a slow way to do regression testing.
    Notes:
    1) Having eTester installed in each individual's computer will allow the person to run tests with no worries about conflicts of server resources or job schedules trying to start an etester instance. Installing etester is a one time thing that takes in general less than 10 minutes.
    2) Instead of sharing the server resources you can share the place where the scripts reside. You can place the scripts in a central location and and configure etester to read the scripts from there. Instructions on how to do this should be in the knowledge base (if not please let me know)(Don't be lazy Zuriel, paste the link here).
    3) You can consider to have eManager Enterprise if you want to have better organization of the scripts. In eManager Enterprise you can relate your test cases to your scripts, you can run the scripts from a central location, it is less limited for scheduling scripts than the JobScheduler, and it can be accessed from anywhere inside the company with a web browser (for security reasons requires username and password). eManager Enterprise doesn't have the ability to create or update scripts, it uses scripts that were created in eTester already.
eManager can also create schedules conflicts if multiple runs are attempted. There are ways to deal with this situation by having multiple computers to run the tests. (Please post in another thread if more information is necessary).
    I hope this helps.

  • BT Infinity and online gaming - has BT changed tra...

We use our internet a great deal for online gaming and a few months ago on our old ISP games started to become unplayable due to extremely slow response times. After a great deal of investigation I discovered the reason for this...
Some ISPs examine the sort of data being transferred and when they think the data is Peer-To-Peer traffic they place this in a low-priority queue.  Historically, most people didn't care as 99% of P2P traffic was illegal file-sharing.
BUT, online games are increasingly making use of data packet formats that 'look' like P2P traffic.  The gaming data is incorrectly identified as being P2P file-sharing and placed in a low priority queue.  This makes online gaming, where responses need to be made in fractions of seconds impossible - you often just stand still for 5 seconds while the rest of the world moves on.
This is what happened with our old ISP and why we looked around for a new provider. Infinity recently came to our area and while browsing the Infinity information on the BT site I was asked if I wanted to speak to a customer service rep.  I wasn't expecting a very helpful discussion, but figured it couldn't do any harm to ask a very specific question:  "Do you perform traffic-shaping on P2P traffic?" -  the rep went away to find out and then responded "BT never shape P2P traffic".  (I have screenshots of this conversation as it formed the basis of my decision to subscribe to Infinity).
Flash forward a month.  We have Infinity and have been very pleased with it ..until tonight when the same problems started again.
Several speed-test sites report pings about 20ms, download speeds of 30-40mpbs  - all very nice, same it has been for the past month.
BUT, tonight all online gaming has ground to a halt.
Typical pings reported in games like World of Warcraft have gone from 50-100ms to about 3000-5000s.
Online chatter is FULL of people asking if anyone else is having problems; and yes, the ones I've spoken to are all on BT.
    So -
Have BT changed their policy ?
Are they now aggressively shaping traffic it thinks is P2P-related ?
Are the problems tonight related to a temporary glitch or a permanent change in policy ?
I'd really like to know as I've still got proof of BT's answer to a direct and specific question about this sort of policy and if it's changed will need to change ISPs and reclaim setup costs.
Any information from anyone who knows about this would be most welcome.

    Hi ge1971,

  • Slow Infinity

Hi I upgraded from broadband to Bt Infinity and on day of connection I got a download speed of 37mb and since then my speed keeps droping to 7.7mb.
When I rang Bt I got usual script but managed to get an enginer apointment but not till a week later,my exchange is only round the corner from me and should get full 77mb so in effect im getting 1 tenth of what I should and basicly the same speed as most standed broadband.
I know new connections need to stabilise but the speed should increase from connection speed not drop so drasticly, and for the cost BT honestly think its right that we pay full price for a service that to be honest is a joke, then expect you to wait over a week for an enginer to look into it when the service was just connected.
every speed check compleated shows different speeds from 27mb then within seconds 9mb to its slowest so far of 7.7mb,this is not stabilisation this is a major issue.
Now what seems to puzzle me is that when I had standed broadband I had same issue with speed getting slower to a point that I went from 14mb to a stable 5.5mb and was contantly told this is within paramiters and no faults found but hey its happening again now with infinity.(Do BT honestly think that our old phone lines that come into our homes might not be the problem and possibley chec and replace when installing this new fast internet becouse there seems to be far too many people with the same problems that dont seem to get a permanent fix.
I would be interested in any ones responce to this and if they are or have in the past the same issues.

Hi just did more speed tests and got 38mb then immediately set it to test again and came back with 9mb this is crazy either BTs own speed tester is messed up or my connection has been duff from point of first connected to Infinity.
Why why did I think this would resolve my standed broadband issues of the same problem.

  • Slow Internet and troubles loading

Hi guys and girls I was looking for a bit of help with my Internet connection.
I have Bt Infinity and everything was fine until around about the end of November. Now it is so slow in loading most (but not all) websites. It starts to load websites then it just stops, and I have to cancel it then reload it a few times to get it to load.
When I try to download files it only downloads a little bit then it stops, the only way I can download things is to keep redownloading it over and over until it finally finally finishes.
When I try to watch videos on youtube it Instantly buffers a section of the video then just stops. When I change the video quality either up or down it bufffers the next section instantly.
The Internet works perfectly on the wifi tho. Everything loads first time and very fast on my ipod and xbox but not so on the PC. I ran the Bt speed check and it came back with a downlaod speed of 35.2 mbps and a connection speed of 38.7 mbps.
If it helps I'm using a Desktop PC, running windows 7, I have made sure that all the windows updates are installed, Checked for viruses, Removed temp files. I am using firefox, the lastest version. I tried running it without add ons, I also tried using IE and Google Chrome and still it is so slow and hardly loads anything.
I am using Bt Home Hub 3 as was supplied by BT.
Like I said the Internet was fine til about 1 month ago and loaded everything fast first time. I never had any problems before with buffering videos.
Any help would be very nice as it is starting to get very annoying now.
    Cheers Kirk

  • Super slow Infinity 1

I wonder if anyone can help me please?
I have had Infinity 1 for about a year or so. It was great for a long time - we were getting the full 38Mbs and sometimes more.
Recently I noticed we were getting slow downloads and watching anything on youtube became impossible - a couple of seconds would play, then it'd stop completely for 10 or more seconds, then play another couple. We ran a speed test and are getting 1.83Mbs! No wonder!
I reported this to BT via their website on Sunday night. I hadn't been contacted so rang them this evening. They have booked an engineer to come around Monday. I don't intend to get into my views on the customer support - just wondered if anyone else has experienced similar?
Thanks for any thoughts and input!

    Thanks for the quick reply.....

My iMac 8.1 (10.6.8 ) was slowing down and had recurrent permissions problems, mostly with Java. I backed everything up, and then re-installed from time machine. Now all I get is a black screen which says I need to reboot. Power+D gives me a hardware error message: 4 MOT/1/40000003: HDD-1336 or HDD-1327. When I reboot from the OSX CD and start disc utilities everything checks out OK. When I reload 10.5.2 from the OSX CD everything seems to work OK and no more permissions problems. But then I loose all my email and safari stuff. Anyone have any ideas short of going back to my old PC?

No unfortunatley it's too old, you are referring to Target Display Mode which became avialble in 2009, your 2008 needs to have the HD replaced. I'd still do that if everything else is OK or you can simply buy a new MM and display or even a new iMac  or an Apple refurbished iMac to save money.

  • Solution for Slow Open and Save As Dialogs under 10.4.4

I don't know how many others out there may be experiencing this, but...
I noticed that -- after updating to 10.4.4 -- I started getting really long delays when accessing Open and Save As file dialogs -- I mean, sometimes it would take 5 to 15 seconds for the dialog to appear!
I did a lot of troubleshooting, and finally hit upon the solution a couple of nights ago:
    It's the Desktop iDisk!
Going into the .Mac Preference Pane and turning off "iDisk Syncing" has totally eliminated the slowdown.
I think it has something to do with DiskMirrorAgent, since that has frozen on me a couple of times and prevented logoff until I force-quit it.
    'Hope this helps.

    Late 2005 DC G5 2.3 GHz, 4 GB RAM   Mac OS X (10.4.4)

    Hi Matt,
One can always manually mount the iDisk when needed, and it still syncs, albeit in real time, and kind of herky-jerky.
As for the slowdown when multiple items are mounted, I believe I'm describing a different issue, related to DiskMirrorAgent. If and when you get this slowdown (with desktop iDisk syncing enabled), check Activity Monitor, and you'll see DiskMirrrorAgent sucking up most of the CPU time for the time it takes before the dialog appears. My record time was about 25 seconds.
As for slow Open and Save As dialogs when multiple items are mounted: I customarily have several external FireWire drives mounted, and often a couple of CDs and/or DVDs (I produce a radio program, and have several optical drives), and I have had no Open or Save As dialog slowdowns since at least 10.3.x, maybe earlier.
Even when the dialog opens to a directory on a CD that has spun down, the opening time on an Open or Save As dialog is nearly instantaneous for me, suggesting that Mac OS X 10.4.x is doing a good job of caching the data.
But I hear you about the "old days," when it used to take forever to get a dialog to appear, just because a CD was mounted! Maddening!

  • Slow system and application startup times

    Hi,
I've got a 17" Macook Pro (Early 2011) 2.2 GHz Intel Core i7 - ever since I bought it I feel like it runs a little slow.
I've been a long-time mac used but I feel a little disappointed with this machine.
e.g.: Startup time takes around 4 minutes.
Applications take around 10 seconds to start.
Chrome sometimes takes 5-10 seconds to start, about the same to quit.
My Xbench scores fluctuate wildly - best I've ever got is 220, worst is 18. 160 is about the average.

I feel that tried everything including:
    - Creating a new user
    - Repairing disk permissions
    - DIsk verify and repair
    - Removing all startup items
    - Installing extra ram (currently at 8GB)
It runs well most of the time but frustratingly slow sometimes and there doesn't seem to be any anomalous activity in activity monitor. I feel that it could be the hard disk, but don't know (I always have 250-350gb free).
    Any help appreciated!

Thanks for the link. I've never seen that page before but I have done everything in that list.
It's not a spinning beachball issue - the system doesn't lock-up often it just takes a **** long time to do some things. I didn't really realise it as a problem until I started using other people's older/lower spec'ed macs and noticed that they run FASTER than mine.
Activity monitor pics - just after a restart with my usual apps running:

Even using Skitch to take those screenshots took ages.

  • Slow System and cost to take to local store

    Hey All,
My system has been running slow recently and I'm not sure why.  I was thinking of taking it to my local store but do they charge a huge fee to help?

I would recommend you use a Anti virus software to scan for any virus, is there is no luck with that, personally (I am saying this because it's what I would do) I would backup any/all important documents and run a fresh install of OS X Yosemite.
Please, nobody follow this horribly bad advice!
Malware is almost never the cause of performance issues on a Mac, while anti-virus software often is the cause. Further, if this one thing didn't help (which it wouldn't), it makes no sense whatsoever to jump straight to reinstalling the system! There are many other things that should be tried first, such as removing certain kinds of third-party software (anti-virus being one of the top candidates), checking for low RAM problems, checking for problems due to insufficient hard drive space, etc.
Buckeyes1205, Apple's techs should be able to help you. If you're not able to get in to the Apple Store right away, though, you could download EtreCheck, run it and then post the report it generates here. That will give us more information about what's going on with your system, and we can give you some real suggestions for how to fix it.

  • Flash html5 - How can i make an internal movie clip slow down and stop when it get to a certain frame?

I am creating an automotive braking system using flash and have a wheel turning. I want the wheel to slow down and stop after the brake pedal is pushed at a certain frame. I know I could do this with frame by frame animation but was hoping there was a short cut - javascript?? If not the slowing down portion then is there code for just making the internal movie clip (wheel turning) to stop when it gets to a frame.? Thanks

you can use the ticker class to create a loop that you use to control the wheel's rotation or frame, TweenJS v0.6.0 API Documentation : Ticker
