Slow iPod Synch with iTunes

I'm using a networked linksys NSLU to house my music library and music files. When I plug in my iPod (video), it starts to synch immediately (I have it set to do this). The problem I see is that it takes forever >10 minutes to just even evaluate my 16gb of music to determine if there are any changes to synch.
This seems extremely slow. Is this because it's doing it over the network to the linksys NLSU?
Anyone else with this problem? Suggestions on getting the synch to happen faster?
Thanks.
Dell   Windows XP   Networked to linksys NSLU

I've been frustrated w/ the speed for a long time.
When I first got my video ipod it took over 24hours to initially load it. This was w/ only 10-12GB of music.
The other week I had to reinit my ipod and fully reload it. This time I had approx 12GB of tunes, and tons of video files. Total load size around 50GB. This time it took just over 12 hours.
I discovered that the video interface of the Windows version of iTunes is a CPU hog.
Minimize iTunes while its loading your iPod. This more than doubled my data transfer rate to the iPod (over USB2.x)
fyi, I run an old PCI ATI graphics adapter. My friends w/ way faster graphics never complain about the speed issue.
On older versions of iTunes I also found that it helped to set all the iTunes processes affinity to the boot strap proc (first processor typically as Windows sees them). This had helped w/ speed, but also helped eliminate blue screens. The need to do this seems to have been eliminated in the v7.x iTunes.

My iPod Touch Gen 5 will no longer synch with iTunes on my computer.  Only change since this happened is update to iPod to OS 8.1.1  iPod synch remains stuck in "Step 8 of 8"

On your computer go to the control panel (hover in the lower right corner) then programs, add/remove programs
Uninstall iTunes, Apple Mobile Device Service, Apple Application Support then go to apple.com and redownload and reinstall iTunes and try again.
You won't lose any content, you're not deleting that, just the programs that access them.
What is thought to happen is that sometimes a new version of itunes doesn't update the drivers in those other two programs. The only way to update the drivers is to force it by uninstalling the programs which allows itunes to write the correct ones.
My iPad and iPod did exactly the same thing and this is how I fixed it.

  • Ipod wont synch with itunes

I 1st installed my ipod onto my laptop but that has since broke and I have tried to install it onto my pc and it wont synch with itunes. I cant get into my music list either. Help pleae thanks

Hi, thank you for the reply, unfortunetly i have tried all the suggestions on that link (and quite a few more).
The message is completely random as to whether its a download from the itunes store or something i have imported or a cd that i have added to my itunes. I have got to a point now where it will synch a certain amount of tracks (or photo's, books, etc) and then just give me an -50 message regardless of what it is i am trying to synch, my 80gb classic has now become a 50mb classic!

  • My ipod no longer synchs with itunes

My ipod no longer syncs with iTunes and my computer. It shows up under devices, but not in itunes.  I installed an update from Apple yesterday. Could this be causing the problem (their updates have caused issues before), or is there something I need to do to get the iPod to synch with iTunes? Thanks. JP

    Try
iOS: Device not recognized in iTunes for Windows
    I would start with
Removing and reinstalling iTunes and other software components for Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8
New cable and different USB port?
Runs this and see if the results help with determine the cause

  • Slow iPod sync with network drive

I run a small network for my home/office (I am self employed) with about 4 PCs for me and my family.
We have 3 iPods in our family and we just use one PC to host iTunes, but because we have so much music, I have put the music on a network drive served from my file server (Windows Small Business Server - Windows Server 2003 based).
There's no problem with this setup, except one:
I've noticed that when iPods sync with iTunes, it takes a very long time, perhaps 5 times as long than when I had my music files on an external hard drive directly connected to the PC on which we run iTunes.
This is fustrating. My question is: is there anything that can be done about this ?
I can't really understand why this should be an issue. iTunes has, stored in the library files on my local PC, the details of all my music files. So when my iPod syncs, surely iTunes consults the iPod and consults what is in iTunes and figures out what should change - and then and only then should iTunes need to connect to the network drive to actually get any necessary files. Is my understanding wrong of what iTunes is doing when syncing an iPod ?
The issue is that even with no changes, sync-ing is an issue.
Any help on this gratefully received - have looked in this forum and other places, but haven't managed to trawl and info on my issue.

Having been given an iPod video 60Gig as a present, I am sometimes forced to use it.
Recently I tried - I downloaded and installed latest itunes 7.5 on the PC running Windows XP.
Built up the library of music - tried to do a sync. So slow I nearly hit the PC. The transfer rate would merely get 40 Meg on in 5 minutes (thats my estimate all I know is it never finished). I tried to leave it running for 3 hours and still not finished - the size of music to transfer was about 2400 songs.
I then tried to use Vista Home Basic - with itunes 7.5 - it wouldnt even recognize the ipod.
After a few days of giving up and banging my head against the wall I tried Linux too - but that was slow too.
I eventually went back to Vista and de-installed itunes 7.5 - found version 6.05 and installed it. It went through like clockwork (well as clockwork as can be it was magically fast but fast enough to fill half of the 60Gig).
I then had the magic idea - why not update to 7.5 from 6.05 and guess what - its slow again painfully slow.
    Version 7.5 *****!

  • IPad 4.3.3 not synch with iTunes

Hi Folks,  I have not been able to get my iPad to synch with iTunes.  From my search for a fix to this problem I've noticed and followed each suggestion but ALL to no avail.  I suspect it may have to do with the fact that my Laptop is OS X 10.4.11, my iTunes ( 9.2 [61]  ) is not the latest version (in any event the latest version of iTunes requires OS X 10.5).   My iPad is ver. 4.3.3. (SJ2).  I should note here that when I plug the iPad into the computer there is No Device showing in the iTunes left column, as is the case when I plug in my iPod.  I also followed the Authorize This Computer route thinking that it might give me the option of selecting the iPad but zilch again.  I sure would like to have access to all the music and movies I have available on my computer via the iTunes Store.   ANY suggestions on how to fix this  . . . if there is a fix .... would be most appreciated.

From other replies I read to similar query, I find this suggestion to be in conflict with same, but thank you nonetheless.   I'll try again,
Having the same problem with my Wi-FI /3G, 64gGB (ver 4.3.3.) in that it will NOT sync with my OS X 10.4.11 laptop.  D/l'ed all the suggestions and tried them all . .  to NO avail.  My iPad is not recognized by iTunes (Ver.9), i.e. does not appear as a Device as e.g. my Shuffle.  On following the list suggested below --
iPad Troubleshooting Assistance, I noted something of interest; "Other symptoms may include:
        •    Computer recognizes your iPad as a camera but it doesn't appear in iTunes
What I have noticed is that each time I've attempted to mount the iPad when it was connected to my Computer I got the msg .   " NO Camera Found".   and that's as far as or as close as I can get to having my iPad recognized at all.  The Question now defaults to 'how to avoid / correct this 'misinterpretation' that is happening, such that I can finally use the iPad to more capacity.
    Appreciate Any and All suggestions?

  • My Apple TV (1st Gen) will not synch with iTunes on my Laptop

I've been trying to do this for a while, it shouldn't be too difficult i think.
All i want to do is synch all the content on my laptop with my Apple TV (and vice versa) so all the content including photos and home videos is the same on both my Apple TV and my laptop.
    Some points:
There's enough hard drive space on both
I'm using Windows 7 ultimate on my laptop
The correct port exceptions have been added to Windows Firewall
I have purchases on both my laptop and Apple TV from the iTunes store
We're using a wireless network and it while it's possible to get them both cable wired, it would be a pain
Home networking is set up in iTunes on my laptop
I've set up my Apple TV to synch (not stream) with my account on my laptop
Both iTunes and Apple TV are up to date with their downloads
I think that's it - am i missing anything, or should this now just work?
    Cheers
    David

    As per the question, really...
"My Apple TV (1st Gen) will not synch with iTunes on my Laptop"
    There's no error messages
Only the films i've bought on my AppleTV appear on my AppleTV
It's been synching for over 4 hours and hasnt got past the first film and the progress bar is not moving

  • I lost a lot of tracks while syncing my ipod touch with iTunes. I have managed to get some of them back with a free download, but iTunes will not let me dowload whole albums which I have paid for. It does recognise that they have been purchased. What do n

As I've already said to get this far: I have lost a lot of tracks while syncing my iPod Touch with iTunes. I have managed to get free downloads of some of the single tracks, but when I try to download entire albums the system informs me that I have already purchased them and a pop-up window informs me I can get them back from my "Purchased" file. I would not be trying to dowload them again if they were anywhere on the iPod, would I? The other problem seems to be that with single tracks I don't know before I hit the purchase button if I have picked it from the right album and I have had to pay for it again.
I feel that I have been totally ripped off by iTunes and, apart from ranting on this forum, I don't seem to be able to let my feelings known. It's like a guy from my local record store coming round and nicking my albums and telling me that it's tough!
The point here is folks, that it was syncing two Apple sites which caused the loss of these tracks and from what I've read elsewhere this is a regular fault. And please don't tell me that it's my fault for having a pc. Apple shouldn't sell a product for pc, when it doesn't work on pc!

    - Are you saying that they are not listed in your Purchased section?
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store
    - Are they listed in your Puchases history when you log into your account on your computer?
    - Are they still available now for purchase? If not then you are out of luck
If they are still available and listed in your Puchase History then contact iTunes
