Slow loading of page.

I've replicated the "Auto Suggest" sample that's included in
the Spry download.
I've got about fifty listings on my version of the XML file.
When the URL with the Auto Suggest is visited, I noticed it takes a
long time to process (ie, downloading the XML and javascript
libraries?).
And sometimes the pages seems to pause for a few seconds
before allowing user input.
Anyway to speed up the Auto Suggest?

thanks, I'll give that a shot!!
on another note, do you know if it's possible to put an data
reference tag in the xml file?
for instance:
I want the title to be a link to an IMDB search...
my HTML looks like this:
<a href="{imdbsearch}">{title}</a>
and the xml would be this:
<imdbsearch>
http://www.imdb.com/find?s=tt&amp;q={title}</imdbsearch>
I tried something different that works, but then for the
movies that have direct links to the sites rather than a search it
screws up
This is what I had before:
html:
<a href="{imdbsearch}{title}">{title}</a>
xml:
<imdbsearch>
http://www.imdb.com/find?s=tt&amp;q=</imdbsearch>
just in case I'm gonna post this part in a different
topic

  • Safari is extremely slow loading web pages, i have to latest software, no updating needed

Safari is really slow loading internet pages and uploading images. I have the latest software update. I just purchased this mac book pro within the last 3 months..just frustrating that it's already this slow so soon....Any suggestions? I called tech support and nothing they walked me through helped. He was going to reinstall everything but I wanted to wait and see if there was anything else I could possible do before considering I just got this notebook, I hate to reinstall everything. It seems like there should be a simpler solution...

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of this exercise is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login. Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. The instructions provided by Apple are as follows:
Be sure your Mac is shut down.
    Press the power button.
Immediately after you hear the startup tone, hold the Shift key. The Shift key should be held as soon as possible after the startup tone, but not before the tone.
Release the Shift key when you see the gray Apple icon and the progress indicator (looks like a spinning gear).
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including your login items.
Launch the application(s) and test. Same problem(s)?
After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode.)

  • Firefox very slow loading most pages, sometimes error message :"can't find server for......." ....."

Firefox is very slow loading pages, some pages never load, sometimes error message stating "cannot connect to server" Router is not an issue I don't think as other computer connected to it has no problems. Used Malwarebytes to clean up problems, only 5 found. Internet Explorer does not have the same problems.

The default of the pref network.http.max-connections has been increased from 30 to 256 in Firefox 6+ versions.
Try to decrease the value of the pref <b>network.http.max-connections</b> from 256 to 30 as used in Firefox 3 versions.

  • My ipad air is slower loading web pages and opening apps than ipad 2

Bought new ipad air a month ago, it seems very slow compared to my ipad 2, when loading web pages and apps, is anyone else having these problems or have I got a faulty ipad?

    (A) Try reset iPad
Hold down the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears
Note: Data will not be affected.
    (B) Try reset all settings
    Settings>General>Reset>Reset All Settings
Note: Data will not be affected but settings for Wi-Fi, FaceTime, Message, Home Sharing will be reset

  • Slow loading safari pages

All, when I try to load a web page in Safari 5.1.2 it is very slow to load. I'm wondering if I have a virus?

    You don't have a virus.
If Safari is getting very slow:
(Presumably you regularly empty your Safari cache by deleting the following file:
    Home/Library/Caches/com.apple.Safari/cache.db
    and clear your History)
Adding Open DNS codes to your Network Preferences, should give good results in terms of speed-up as well as added security, including anti-phishing and redirects) (Full information about Open DNS is here: http://www.opendns.com/home/nobloat )
If you are using a single computer: Open System Preferences/Network. Double click on your connection type, or select it in the drop-down menu, and in the box marked 'DNS Servers' add the following two numbers:
    208.67.222.222
    208.67.220.220
(You can also enter them if you click on Advanced and then DNS)
Sometimes reversing the order of the DNS numbers can be beneficial in cases where there is a long delay before web pages start to load, and then suddenly load at normal speed:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2296
If your computer is part of a network:please refer to this page: http://www.opendns.com/start/best_practices/#your_network and follow the advice given.
If you use a Router, make sure it has the latest firmware installed.
One reason for a slowness in page loading may be the 'DNS Pre-fetching' feature of Safari 5.x as is described here:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3408?viewlocale=en_US
You can cancel DNS pre-fetching by going to Terminal and typing:
defaults write com.apple.safari WebKitDNSPrefetchingEnabled -boolean false
You have to restart Safari for it to take effect.
If Safari seems to hang for ages:
If you have a lot of tabs open and/or a lot of pages running Flash, Safari can sometimes 'hang', requiring a restart of Safari. This can often be inconvenient, and as it is rarely Safari itself that is hanging but merely one of its plug-ins, usually Flash, there is a way using Terminal to restart the plug-ins (without restarting Safari and losing your tabs) by quitting the WebPluginHost process:
Open the Terminal from the Utilities folder in /Applications and type
    killall -9 WebKitPluginHost
Note that this command kills all Safari plug-ins, not just Flash. All plug-ins should start back up when you reload the page.
Then go back to Safari and refresh any pages that were using the Flash plug-in. This also fixes the Beachball of Death. Try this whenever Safari gets slow or freezes. The latest versions of Flash 10.1 onwards appear to have improved the situation somewhat, but haven't completed eliminated it.
For this and other reasons Apple switched their websites to HTML5 in January 2011:

  • Slow loading web pages

My iMac G5 used to perform just fine. But for the past 4-5 days any internet content seems to load at a "snails pace", even compared to my older Powerbook G4. I thought it my have had something to do with Simplify Media program for iPhone, so I deleted, but made no difference. I also ran all sorts of cleaning and maintenance with Onyx. Any ideas why my Mac has gotten "tired"???

    Try this:
The following usually works on both Tiger and Leopard:
Many, including me, have had success with adding DNS codes to their Network Settings, with good results in terms of speed-up:
Open System Preferences/Network. Double click on your connection type, or select it in the drop-down menu. Click on TCP/IP and in the box marked 'DNS Servers' enter the following two numbers:
    208.67.222.222
    208.67.220.220
Click on Apply Now and close the window.
    Restart Safari, and repair permissions.
If that didn't do it, then try this as well:
Empty Safari's cache (from the Safari menu), then close Safari.
Go to Home/Library/Safari and delete the following files:
    form values
    download.plist
Then go to Home/Library/Preferences and delete
    com.apple.Safari.plist
    Repair permissions (in Disk Utility).
Start up Safari again, and things should have improved.
Less likely, but possible, is that the slowness is caused by a Trojan such as the one called 'DNSChanger' or 'OSZ.RSPlug', which can alter the DNS settings of your network connection. This particular Trojan can be inadvertently installed if you have come across certain Quicktime movies where got a window stating that you have to download and install a particular codec in order to see the video.
If you have agreed to that installation, your system can be infected and your DNS settings altered, which results in your system using the wrong DNS servers, which can slow web surfing to a crawl.
This can be fixed by downloading and running a freeware utility called DNSChanger Removal Tool which you can download from here:
    http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/33696
Once you have run that utility you have to re-boot your Mac, then reset Safari, and re-enter your DNS settings in System Preferences/Network.

  • Safari 3.2.1 and 10.5.6 slow loading/incomplete pages

Safari was working perfectly inder 10.5.5, but since upgrading to 10.5.6 it is almost unusable. Having huge problems loading large graphics intense pages (such as newspapers, well almost anything...). Firefox is also having exactly the same problems. Anyone else getting this? Deleting caches, resetting Safari, deleting preferences, repairing permissions etc has not helped at all.

I am not really shure if the DNS really is to blame. I have a WLAN with 4 different machines connected, the WLAN-Router attached to a DSL and acting asDHCP DNS forwarder. The connected machines are a Intel iMac 1st generation, a G4-iBook, an iPhone 3G and a Windows XP machine, both Macs are running 10.5.6, only the Intel iMac has the pausing problem since the 10.5.6 update, but I saw it only in Mail and Safari, not in Firefox or other applications using network connectivity without using webkit.
Only on the Intel iMac I added the OpenDNS entries to my network settings, which of course solved the problem. But: the three other machines do not have those additional DNS entries, they only have my DSL-router as DNS forwarder, and they still do not have any problems.
I guess it is an implementation problem with handling DNS queries in 10.5.6, maybe it works now because there are now more than one DNS entries in the network settings and not only one? So maybe a deadlock/threading problem?

  • MBP slower loading web pages with Safari

Is there a 'learning' period for Safari on the MBP (2.0 dual-1G ram). The pages seem to be much slower than my PBG4. The Aple sight is painfully slow.
Otheer activities seem about the same or just a slight bit faster to open.

The only "break in" period isn't related to Safari, but when Spotlight is indexing it may slow things down a bit for an hour or two after you first boot up or xfer a bunch of files to the machine.
Other than that, Safari should run super fast. Check a couple of things:
    1) Make sure you didn't install any non-universal plug-ins.
    2) Choose "Get Info" for Safari and make sure "Open using Rosetta" is NOT checked.
    3) Empty the cache.
    4) Try resetting Safari.

  • Slow loading text page

I am currently transferring my website (made with PageMill!) from Homepage to iWeb. Everything's fine so far with the exception of one page that I think takes far too long to load, considering it only contains text:
    http://web.mac.com/davidclifford/iWeb/FuninHounslow/Feedback.html
If anyone has any suggestions as to why this is happening, and what I can do to rectify it I'd be most grateful…
iMac DV SE, 12" Powerbook G4   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

That would be because iWeb converted your page of
text into a huge PNG file--3.2 MB to be exact!
Search the forum here and you will find others
having problems with iWeb converting text to
graphics. Changing the font to Verdana or Arial
might fix it, though I'm not sure.
I'm having this issue as well. I have posted on other forums but have not found a fix yet. I have also left feedback for Apple to at least warn us with a pop-up dialog box stating that it was going to convert text to graphics and suggets methods to fix it before publishing.
I used the default text (Arial) but it still converts it.

  • Extremely Slow Loading Home Pages At Start-Up

I'm running Vista and recently upgraded from Firefox 3.6.12 to Firefox 7.0.1. Since then my home pages take WAY too long to load at start-up, even after disabling AVG add-ons. Tried uninstallilng, rebooting, reinstalling, rebooting -- same problem. Didn't have the problem using IE8, so concluded the problem was with Firefox 7.0.1. Uninstalled 7.0.1 and went back to 3.6.12 -- problem resolved. I'd like to run the latest version. Any idea what the problem was?

  • Fixed my prob (slow loading web pages and youtube streaming) so far :)

I dont know how and I dont know why this worked but I am flying now.
On iPad went to DNSServerlist.org down the bottom it gives you IP address and suggested DNS address's.
Here's where things are strange... I *changed my DNS to the IP address instead of the suggested DNS address*. Changed it in my wifi ISP details (noting old address ) clicked return/enter. Turned iPad off then on (restart) and tried youtube.... no lag and pre fetch? very quick.
Then tried Safari and it is running as fast as my Mac... back to normal surfing speed.
Dont know how/why and dont care if it is working lol.
May help someone. Let me know. Cheers

so I went to the Genius Bar today
the genius ran the usually diagnostic
she said I had a memory issue
she tried to blame it on some old backup restore
    but I've never used one
i always start fresh on a new device manually (other than iCloud contacts and bookmarks)
well she wouldn't listen and insisted she restore the device yet again
((vie already done it 2x in the last week)
anyways things were fine for an hour
    tthe problem is now back
i made another appointment for Monday
know for a fact this issue does not affect every iPad air 2

  • Safari now slow loading pages from Apple!

This is an add on from a future post today with this problem. Safari slow loading pages, NOW even slow loading Apple pages here on the discussion board.

Repairing permissions is an important part of regular maintenance, and should always be carried out both before and after any software installation or update.
Go to Disk Utility (this is in your Utilities Folder in your Application folder) and click on the icon of your hard disk (not the one with all the numbers).
In First Aid, click on Repair Permissions.
This only takes a minute or two.
    Background information here:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=25751
    and here:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=302672
If you were having any serious problems with your Mac you might as well complete the exercise by repairing your hard disk as well. You cannot do this from the same start-up disk. Reboot from your install disk (holding down the C key). Once it opens, select your language, and then go to Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. Select your hard disk as before and click Repair.
Once that is complete reboot again from your usual start-up disk.

  • Firefox 4 is slow in loading web pages, much slower than previous version. WHY?

I am having problems with slow loading of pages, slower than Explorer for the same page for example.
    What can be done?

Have you tried (1) restarting your router, and (2) resetting the wifi on the iPad?  To do #2, go to Settings, General, Reset, Reset Network Settings.

  • Safari slow loading sites j

All of a sudden Safari is very slow loading web pages. The blue bar will start and then it will freeze and stay there. If I hit stop and refresh it zips right across and loads. I have emptied the cache, reset Safari and run Disk Utility. Any suggestions?

Hi again, researching further, I found a poster who wrote:
_+If that doesn't work try changing your dns settings. I had a similar issue and after a visit to opendns.com and changing my settings, things are better than before. Plus I changed the settings on my router and which solved the problem for all my computers._+
though I did the other two things, the .com.apple file thing and the macfixit (well I tried some of those) this is what worked, going to the above mentioned webpage and following the very simple steps. I have no idea what the heck I did actually, but it worked. I also do not know why all of a sudden everything changed and I had to do this trouble shooting. Made me feel like I was back in PC Land.
    aloha, C
