Slow repaints after removing JComponents

i'm writing a simple game but got problem with repainting and couldnt figure out what i'm douing wrong. i'll do my best to explain as clearly as possible.. :) i'm having pnlMenu (JComponent) which contains a button and a label with an image in it. pnlMenu is transparent (setOpaque(false)) and then is added to gameField (also JCoponent) which in turn is set as contentPane of the frame. the problem is when user clicks the button and i'm trying to get rid of pnlMenu by
gameField.remove(pnlMenu), component indeed dissapears, but whatever is drawn on gamefield right after is very slow comparing to if pnlMenu hsnt been previously shown. then resizing window frame while the animation is performed brings repainting speed to normal, but i'd like to know how to do it programtically. i've tried almost everything and none of repaints, updates etc etc seems to help so if anyone could give me a hint how to fix it i'd really appreciate it. thx in advance for any help

Rule #1: make backups.
TimeMachine AND bootable type
#2:
Before messing and removing Windows - which was working, figure out the problem and why.
#3:
Repair the OS = Windows DVD / Mac OS X DVD
Lion has "Command-D" Recovery Mode to do disk maintenance
You probably have corrupt partition(s) If Safe Boot won't work, and if you can't fix with OS X DVD - instead of Installing go to Utility menu and Disk Utility.
Might even want to install Mac OS to an external drive, just 30GB partition. And then see if you can recovery your files.
Pretty basic system maintenance and repair ideas, though maybe not straight forward the first time through.
You posted this I guess from a different computer. Maybe it can do a Firewire Target Disk Mode or something.

  • Very Slow Performance After Removing Windows Partition

    Hello,
    Recently I went through a failed attempt at installing Windows 7 onto my Macbook Pro using boot camp. After this failure I decided to try again another day and used the boot camp assistant to remove the Windows partition.
    Ever since doing this, my computer has been running extremely slowly and beach balls on the simplest of tasks.  I have tried resetting the SMC and my PRAM all to no avail.  I have also used Disk Utility to verify my disk and it says that my disk looks OK.
    Has anyone else experienced this/know of any possible fixes?
    Thank you for your help!

    Hi,
    This may happen sometimes due to anti-virus or firewalls also.Disable them and check if it works better...Or, otherwise try these:
    - First uninstall the latest Windows Updates.
    Click on the Start Button> Type Windows Updates in the Start Search box > Click View Installed Updates at appears at the top > In the Installed Updates screen Sort the updates as per installed date by clicking on the Down arrow next to installed and choose a date or last week...
    Uninstall the updates that were installed recently one by one. Do not restart.Click cancel on restart window.
    Then perform a clean boot as shown in the link and follow these steps:
    Perform a clean boot  >
    In the start search box type msconfig > Click Startup tab > Click disable all at the bottom > Then Click services > check the box next to Hide all microsoft services at the bottom > Then select disable all > Click Apply > Ok and restart.
    Once it restarts then go to windows updates and complete all the updates > Restart and check. If it works better then Go bak to msconfig and enable only the startup programs and services that are required. Enable few and check again..
    Let me know if problem continues..
    Note:
    If you have HP Support Assistant installed on the computer(The Blue Question Mark) then open it ==> Complete all pending Updates & Tuneups==> Restart and Check. It may solve your problem
    Although I am an HP employee, I am speaking for myself and not for HP.
    **Click on “Kudos” Star if you think this reply helped** Or Mark it as "Solved" if issue got fixed.

  • Slow boot up after removing boot camp

    I removed boot camp aftering realizing that I barely use it and hoping that the boot up time would be as quick as when I bought my mac a year ago. However, the boot up time is just as slow even after removing boot camp. I have gone into system preferences and chosen mac ox as the primary disk but nothing happens. Please help!

    Check the setting in the Startup Disk pane of System Preferences.

  • Mac Pro slow down after Yosemite 10.10.2 upgrade

    Upgraded in January.
    I get the spinning color wheel all the time.  Programs crash.
    I've run adware medic a few times, and etrecheck.
    First run through, adware found Genio.
    Since then, it hasn't.  Etrecheck still says it sees it, but Adware doesn't. Still no good.
    I reset SMS and PRAM.
    This machine is slow. Previous to the upgrade, this machine was very fast!

    Please read this whole message before doing anything.
    This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
    The purpose of the test is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party software that loads automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, by a font conflict, or by corruption of the file system or of certain system caches.
    Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards, if applicable. Start up in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. You must hold down the shift key twice: once when you turn on the computer, and again when you log in.
    Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the startup volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
    Safe mode is much slower to start up and run than normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal startup may also be somewhat slow.
    The login screen appears even if you usually login automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
    Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
    After testing, restart as usual (not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test.

Now resolved.  On the day of my appointment the engineer connected my dial tone and broadband to someone else’s line in the next village.  The fault call centre insisted the fault could only be in my property as the line tested OK and I would have to accept the possible charges.  Despite my requests for them to despatch an engineer to the exchange as it is more than a coincidence that my dial tone disappeared at the same time as my scheduled changeover they insisted I have an appointment.  The fault was cleared in the exchange by the visiting engineer.
    Problem 2.  Now resolved. The engineer did not remove the call divert on my line and I missed my incoming calls for several days as my calls were diverted to a random number.  I tried #21# and this did not work, so I contacted BT again.  They informed me they could not remove the divert because they had not put it on. After investigation #61# managed to remove my divert.  When I asked why it was not removed when my line was fixed I was told that I must have put the divert on myself as it was done by someone with access to my line. The whole point that my line had been connected elsewhere was totally alien to the call centre worker.
    Problem 3.  On going
    After 14 days of Mediocare performance I was connected much slower speed than my old connection and as my profile was 4000k this is only half of my previous performance. (See Below)
    1. Best Effort Test: -provides background information.
    Download Speed
    5959 Kbps
    0 Kbps
    4000 Kbps
    Max Achievable Speed
     Download speed achieved during the test was - 5959 Kbps
     For your connection, the acceptable range of speeds is 1200-4000 Kbps.
     Additional Information:
     Your DSL Connection Rate :4603 Kbps(DOWN-STREAM), 1251 Kbps(UP-STREAM)
     IP Profile for your line is - 4000 Kbps
    The throughput of Best Efforts (BE) classes achieved during the test is - 16.4:29.53:54.07 (SBE:NBEBE)
    These figures represent the ratio while sententiously passing Sub BE, Normal BE and Priority BE marked traffic.
    The results of this test will vary depending on the way your ISP has decided to use these traffic classes.
    2. Upstream Test: -provides background information.
    Upload Speed
    873 Kbps
    0 Kbps
    1251 Kbps
    Max Achievable Speed
    >Upload speed achieved during the test was - 873 Kbps
     Additional Information:
     Upstream Rate IP profile on your line is - 1251 Kbps
    So I call BT again and after I have established that the only changing parameter is the new 21CN upgrade I am promised that a request will be passed to the engineers to increase the profile........  The result is that they just reset my profile, so once again my speed fluctuates for several days from a virtual stop to slow.
    It is now six days since reporting my slow speed problems after receiving several calls from BT to ask me if my speed has improved, I am finally a broken man today.
    They insist that I have a broadband boost engineer, before I accept this, I ask several questions and failed to get any acceptable answers..
    What is wrong with my broadband?  You have a fault in the property (change the record!!)
    Why cannot you tell me the speed I am connected at.   You cannot WOOSH test me?  We cannot tell, we have to call you
    Can I speak to the engineers?  You cannot Sir
    Can I speak to your Boss?  No, why would you want to do that!
    What have you done in the exchange to fix my fault?  We have changed some things
    Do you thing it is acceptable to still have slow speeds after twenty days?  That's why you need a boost engineer
    What are you going to do differently from all the other people I have spoken to to resolve my issue.  Nothing
    So with no other option I accept that an appointment will have to be made again.  I am offered an appointment in the week, when I explain that I have business appointments and that I need a weekend appointment I am told none is available or would be available.  So I agree to a Monday appointment.  After the call I get a text to say I have an appointment has been made for Thursday!  So I have to call them back and ask for the appointment I have been promised and I am told it's a simple and easy mistake to press the wrong button, it happens quite often!!
    I since read here that it may help to upgrade my homehub, so why have they not sent me a replacement days ago?

     IP Profile for your line is - 2000 Kbps

    I know there are more important things going on in this world.  But my work, my ebay, my shopping, my banking, my social sites etc. all require bandwidth and to have it taken away disguised as an upgrade obviously upsets me.  I am shocked at the complete lack of communications, and the inability to listen and understand your customers.  What is the point of a call centre that can do NOTHING outside their script to help!
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Not sure why my profile is still changing and why I was disconnected today, probably the call centre doing another line test.

    I am assuming that this is related to my slow computer after waking from sleep.  Every click has delayed reaction up to spinning beach ball in length.  Went to console log and see this same message repeating over and over and over.  What does it mean?  How do I fix it?  Is it related to the slowdown?
    Thanks

    Ok...  Sometimes Mail will abort the restart that I am trying to do to get the system back to normal speed so I was wondering about that "plug-in" which appears to be more than a plug in.  It put a bundle in my Library/Mail folder that can't be deleted...
    Here is my log now which starts showing errors as soon as I reboot... I am backing up now.  It seems that there should be something that I could remove without a clean install, but I can't figure it out from this....Thanks for the insight...

  • Slow responses after upgrade to lion

    slow reponses after upgrading to Lion

    Slower with Lion-----Same story as Texas Cats above.
    Lion is killing me and my attention span was erratic to begin with...now I can't get anything accomplished.
    Replaced my 80 GB hard drive with a new 160 GB HD and it did nothing!
    I was told by Apple Genius Bar that more memory might be the answer but my mid-2007 MacBook is not supposed to be capable of handling more than the 2GB I have installed.
    Idid the clean-up, cache cleaning, photo removal, etc. Just trying to access simple searches on Google or Safari via Verizon Fios can be excrutiating. So far I have spent $400. on upgrades, etc. and wondering if Lion should be uninstalled?

  • Server slows down after a while

    Hi all,
    I've a problem with a linux machine which slows down after running for
    some days. It usually handles about 100 request per second and after a
    while it goes down to about 5 requests per second. I'm running WL6.1Sp1
    on Linux with JDK1.3.1 and "-hotspot -ms512m -mx512m". I'm wondering if
    this is related to some problem in my code or maybe rather is a database
    issue. I took a thread dump, and the server looks idle. Does anyone see
    something unusual in this dump? Does it indicate anything else than a
    nearly totally idle server?
    Thanks for your input!
    Daniel

    There are several threads like the one below. I would think that they are the

    code.

    this is related to some problem in my code or maybe rather is a database

    nearly totally idle server?
    Thanks for your input!

  • Query Designer slows down after working some time with it

    Hi all,
    the new BEx Query Designer slows down when working some time with it. The longer it remains open, the slower it gets. Especially formula editing slows down extremely.
    Did anyone of you encounter the same problem? Do you have an idea, how to fix this. To me it seems as if the Designer allocates more and more RAM and does not free that up.
    My version: BI AddOn 7.X, Support Package 13, Revision 467
    Kind regards,
    Philipp

    I have seen a similar problem on one of my devices, the 'Samsung A-920'. Every time the system would pop up the 'Will you allow Network Access' screen , the imput from all keypresses from then on would be strangely delayed. It looked like the problem was connected with the switching from my app and the system dialog form. I tried for many many long hours / days to fix this, but just ended up hacking my phone to remove the security questions. After removing the security questions my problem went away.
    I don't know if it's an option in your application, but is it possible to do everything using just one Canvas, and not switch between displayables? You may want to do an experiment using a single displayable Canvas, and just change how it draws. I know this will make user input much more complicated, but you may be able to avoid the input delays.
    In my case, I think the device wasn't properly releasing / un-registering the input handling from the previous dialogs, so all keypresses still went through the non-current network-security dialog before reaching my app.

  • System Slow-Down After Printing

    I recently installed Mountain Lion. Over the last couple of weeks I have noticed a significant operating system (10.8.2) slow down after printing with my Epson R3000 printer. This happens after every printing session. When I say slow-down I mean significant delays and dreading "beachballs" when opening applications, selecting menu items or anything else I should choose to do. I'm left with re-starting the computer to get going normally again.After re-atarting I have gone to "verify permissions" and I get approx "5" pages of permission errors, all associated with the printer library in some fashion or another. I then repair all those permissions and re-start my MacPro. The operating system then works as normal and I can use the computer with no problems (until I start printing again). I mainly use the computer for photo editing with Adobe Photoshop CS6, Adobe Lightroom 4 and Aperture 3.2.
    I did not have this problem before upgrading to Mountain Lion (and then to 10.8.2). I did not get "significant" permission errors before upgrading. Since all printer drivers for this printer are handled now by Apple via the "new" Software Update process I can't even re-download the Epson printer driver and start over. I'm completely at a loss as to what, associated with the printer function, is causing these "significant" permission errors and subsequent operating system slow down. My printer is almost brand new and was working flawlessly before Mountain Lion. Let me be clear though, I can print fine. My problem is the system slow down after using the print function which I am only guessing has something to do with the "5" pages of permission errors after printting photos (with CS6/Lightroom/Aperture).
    Incidently, I am not in any way a computer expert. Verifying and repairing permissions is about all I know how to do that's why I need help. I also just thought I would try the forums first before going to technical support to see what people thought about this.
    Again, I repair the permission errors, re-start my system and all is fine. Any further suggestions would be deeply appreciated.

    When you see a beachball cursor or the slowness is especially bad, note the exact time: hour, minute, second.

  • Can't find printer after removing it.

    Hello,
    I happen to have an HP LaserJet M1132 MFP, which was working pretty well until recently it started sending that "/usr/lib/cups/backend/hp failed" error described in the wiki. I did have dbus running, I tried running avahi-daemon, but no use. So after googling up the problem, I found out that people had the issue solved after removing and installing the printer again.
    Well, I removed the printer via CUPS web interface, and tried to install it again via hp-setup, but this time the printer is not recognized! dbus is running fine, so does cups. lsusb does seem to recognize the printer:
    Bus 001 Device 006: ID 03f0:042a Hewlett-Packard
    Trying to manually feed the device id to hp-setup completely freezes it (and even pkilling it won't remove the window after that).
    dmesg find it too:
    [ 554.981309] usb 1-1.1: new high speed USB device number 6 using ehci_hcd
    [ 555.066090] scsi7 : usb-storage 1-1.1:1.0
    I had it installed before with no problems.
    Anyone can help me to get my printer installed and working again?

    It sounds like you have not installed, but only downloaded it. Have you checked your downloads folder for the installer?

  • Can't delete a file displayed in ListView ("File in use") even after removing it from window.

    I have a ListView displaying a collection of icons. The user can then select different icons (checkboxes) to do things like Copy or Delete.
    Problem is, when I try to delete the actual file from the disk, I get an error telling me the file is "in use" ("vshost.exe", the VS runtime during testing).
    I thought maybe it was because it still appeared in the window and was still in the ImageList, but even after removing it from both locations, I still get the error. My code:
    Dim intCnt As Integer = 0
    Do
    ImageList2.Images.RemoveAt(intIconsChecked(intCnt)) ' Remove from collection.
    lsvCollection.Items.RemoveAt(intIconsChecked(intCnt)) ' Remove from ListView window.
    FileIO.FileSystem.DeleteFile(strIconPath & "\Icon" & Format(intCnt + 1, "00") & ".rsc") ' "+1" b/c Icons start with "01".
    FileIO.FileSystem.DeleteFile(strIconPath & "\Icon" & Format(intCnt + 1, "00") & ".png") ' "In use" Error here.
    ".rsc" deletes just fine, so I know I'm deleting the correct file. Why does VS still think the file is still "in use"?
    Thx

    Mugsy,
    Consider this as food for thought, even if you don't use it.
    If you set it up right then you can control how it works. A reference is a reference and any left behind will cause you grief down the road when you try to delete things.
    As an example, a simple class follows. It does *not* implement IDispose, although it does have a private shared Dispose method in it:

    When you look through that, look specifically at the "Remove" method and in particular, look at the order in which things are done. That's the critical part in this.
    I tested it with a simple form:
    Two buttons, a checkbox, and a picturebox. I also copied a small folder full of image files to my desktop since I'll be deleting a file from it. Following is the code for Form1:
    Option Strict On
    Option Explicit On
    Option Infer Off
    Imports System.IO.Path
    Public Class Form1
    Private miList As New List(Of MyImages)
    Private Sub Form1_Load(ByVal sender As System.Object, _
    ByVal e As System.EventArgs) _
    Handles MyBase.Load
    Dim desktop As String = _
    My.Computer.FileSystem.SpecialDirectories.Desktop
    Dim imgFolder As String = _
    Combine(desktop, "Images")
    PictureBox1.BorderStyle = BorderStyle.FixedSingle
    For Each imgFilePath As String In My.Computer.FileSystem.GetFiles(imgFolder)
    MyImages.AddNew(miList, imgFilePath)
    Next
    btn_RemoveFirstImage.Enabled = False
    CheckBox_RemoveSourcePath.Enabled = False
    End Sub
    Private Sub btn_ShowFirstImage_Click(sender As System.Object, _
    e As System.EventArgs) _
    Handles btn_ShowFirstImage.Click
    Try
    If miList.Count >= 1 Then
    With PictureBox1
    .SizeMode = PictureBoxSizeMode.Zoom
    .Image = miList(0).Bmp
    End With
    btn_RemoveFirstImage.Enabled = True
    CheckBox_RemoveSourcePath.Enabled = True
    End If
    Catch ex As Exception
    MessageBox.Show(String.Format("An exception was thrown:{0}{0}{1}", vbCrLf, ex.Message), _
    "Exception", MessageBoxButtons.OK, MessageBoxIcon.Warning)
    End Try
    End Sub
    Private Sub btn_RemoveFirstImage_Click(sender As System.Object, _
    e As System.EventArgs) _
    Handles btn_RemoveFirstImage.Click
    Try
    If miList.Count >= 1 Then
    MyImages.Remove(miList, miList(0).SourceFilePath, CheckBox_RemoveSourcePath.Checked)
    End If
    PictureBox1.Image = Nothing
    btn_RemoveFirstImage.Enabled = True
    CheckBox_RemoveSourcePath.Enabled = True
    Catch ex As Exception
    MessageBox.Show(String.Format("An exception was thrown:{0}{0}{1}", vbCrLf, ex.Message), _
    "Exception", MessageBoxButtons.OK, MessageBoxIcon.Warning)
    End Try
    End Sub
    End Class
    Running it is straightforward:
    Now when I click to show the first one:
    A different image is shown because that first one no longer exists - either in the collection or in the folder.
    Closing/disposing all references is the key and the order matters.
    Something to consider the next time around. :)
    Still lost in code, just at a little higher level.

  • After removing system fonts and reinstalling fonts, FireFox will not start

    After removing system fonts and reinstalling fonts, FireFox will not start! When I start FireFox the "Mozilla Crash Reporter" opens as if FF just crashed??? I don't see any records in event viewer. I am using FF v3.6.3 on a Windows 7 box. I tried uninstalling 3.6.3 and installing 3.0.18 and had the same problem!
    == This happened ==
    Every time Firefox opened
    == After a uninstalled all fonts including system fonts and then reinstalling system fonts. ==
    == User Agent ==

    The files with submitted crash report ids are inside the ''submitted '' directory, from the directory you found the LastCrash.txt timestamp file.
    The file names will begin with '''bp-'''
    There might be more information from the crash report, but it might just tell us you are crashing the first time Firefox tries to use a font.
    One thing I suppose you could do is select only those fonts you've got in Tools -> Options -> Content -> Fonts and Colors -> Advanced and then uncheck the '''Allow pages to use their own fonts''' option.
    See http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Options+window+-+Content+panel#Fonts_Dialog
    To be honest, I can't find anything on this Netscape Font Navigator and it sounds highly dubious.
