Slow to Load Prepopulated PDF Form in Workspace

We experience that sometimes it takes a long time (abt 10-15 sec) to load a prepopulated PDF form in Workspace. This is not acceptable by our users. They expect that the prepopulated PDF form to be displayed below 5 sec.
FYI, we use customised Default Render service to prepopulate the data retrieved from multiple remote DB server (Oracle 8i and SQL Server 2005) into the PDF Form. In particular, we retrieved about 1500 rows of employee information (ID and name) from Oracle DB View to be populated into a dropdownlist in PDF Form.
Please find below the server and client machine spec:
SERVER:
IBM XSERIES_3650
Intel Xeon CPU 5160 @3.00 GHz
2.99 GHz, 4.00 GB of RAM
Windows Server 2003 SP1 Standard Ed
CLIENT:
512 MB of RAM
Windows XP Pro SP2
Adobe Reader 8
Adobe Flash Player 9
Internet Explorer 6
Does anyone can give us advice what to check/investigate to determine the root cause of the problem and how to improve the performance? Thanks.

At first, we also guessed that the 1500 rows query is the one which cause the slowing down. However, this is what we observe:
- Whenever the client machine is restarted, the time it takes to load and display LiveCycle ES Sample MortgageLoan-Prebuilt PDF form in Workspace will be slow (more than 10s). Subsequent try of loading the PDF form will be faster (2-3s)
- Whenever the client machine is restarted, the time it takes to load and display our prepopulated PDF form in Workspace will be slow (15-25s). Subsequent try of loading the PDF form will be faster (5-7s)
- In our custom Default Render process, we write trace message to server.log file at the start and end of the process. We noticed, the time it takes between the start and the end of the process is consistently about 2-5s which include retrieval of 1500 db records.
Please advice.

  • PDF Form in Workspace:  Format Validation message?

    Hi,
If a user tried to submit a PDF form in Workspace, what is the best way to "nicely" format the error message (rather than just the default 'you have missed mandatory fields' message).
I noticed that the LCES2 validation formatted does not seem to work.
    Thanks,

I have not heard anything further.  I think this warrants a feature request at adobe.com/go/wish
Will also be interested to see how this behaves in ES3.5, although expect it to be close to the current version

  • Problem submitting PDF form in WorkSpace

Hi, my server is ES2.5 Turnkey install (Express mode) on Windows.
Client is IE-8 with latest Reader.
My form is a PDF form created in the WorkBench,
it has 2 pages, with some Digital Signature fields,
I have also added the "Process Fields" group onto page 2 of the form.
The form is to be routed in the standard WorkSpace.
At the Initiator step (Start Point), I use the Action Profile to do the Pre-fill of the form.
I have checked the Reader Extended box.
I use a Document variable as the Output from the StartPoint, the doc variable references my .PDF form template.
Everything works fine at the Initiator step, the form fields are all properly Pre-filled.
    The problem is:
after I click the Complete button, it goes to the next participant of the workflow process,
when that person opens up the form in the WorkSpace, it's all blank, none of the data at the Initiator step show up.
This User task uses the same Document variable as the Input (specified at the Presentation & Data tab).
What do I need to do to pass the form data along with the form to the next person in the Process?
What have I done wrong?  what should I check?
    thanks.

I sort of narrowed down the problem a little bit.
I created a smaller PDF form, it has Digital Signature field as well as the Process Fields group, plus some Text fields.  When I used it in the SAME process (changed the Document variable to point to this new small form of course) everything worked!  No data loss.  Everything on the form including the Signature got passed to the next person in the workflow just fine.
So I think my Process design is fine, the problem appears to be in the original 2-page PDF form.
But I can't figure out what thing on the form could have caused the data loss!
There's no error message anywhere, nothing in the JBoss server log either.
Has anybody seen similar problem like this?
    thanks.

  • Prepopulating PDF forms with data from XML file

How can I get a PDF form to open pre-populated with data from an XML file automatically? I've been using Adobe LifeCycle Designer 8.0 and there doesn't seem to be a way to do it. The closest I came was to use the ImportData method, but that only lets you specify a data file if the form is signed (certified), which these aren't and don't need to be because we're using them on an internal company web page. ImportData works if there is no file name, but then the user has to navigate to and select the correct file, which we can't rely on our users to do.
I've researched this problem for days on this and other websites and haven't found an answer (one Adobe advisor suggested purchasing LifeCycle Forms, which is not an option because it's a $10,000 software package and the company wouldn't authorize a purchase that steep). We will buy a less-expensive option if there is one. We'll even hire a consultant if we can find one to who can design a supportable solution. All suggestions will be much appreciated.

    Hi Sharon
    The easiest way is:
    - Open your PDF form within Acrobat
    - From the File menu, import the XML form data into the form
    - From the File menu, use Save As... to save the file with a new name.
The new PDF will be identical to the original one, but will have the data embedded in it. Voila.
If you want the same form to pre-populate with different XML files depending on the circumstances, or if you're generating the XML on the fly, then things get more complicated. (And more expensive.) As your consultant said, LiveCycle Forms is one option, but it is expensive (actually even more than 10K). There are other options, including Cold Fusion, custom servlets, etc.

  • PDF form takes ages to load

    Hi
I have deployed my first interactive form, downloaded it and was able to update the data it contains. One thing bothers me though, and that is the very long time it takes to load the pdf form I developed.
has anyone seen such a behaviour?
    Thanks
    yuval

Are you displaying the form as an offline form or through a WD web page?
I have found switching the displayType to native from activeX in the Interactive Form UI element properties can speed up things.
If it's an offline form maybe you are using version 8 of Acrobat Reader?

  • PDF Form Mandatory Field Validation Issue in Workspace

If we open a PDF Form with mandatory fields (e.g. Mortgage-Prebuilt sample PDF form) in Workspace and then click the Workspace Complete button without completing the mandatory fields, there will be mandatory validation check which will highlight all the mandatory fields and display the mandatory fields error message dialog box.
However, if we click the Workspace Complete button again afterwards, the mandatory fields error message dialog box will not be displayed. The dialog box will be displayed only if our mouse is moved to any active/enabled fields/buttons in PDF form.
Does anyone encounter this strange issue before?
Kindly advice what should we do to solve this issue.

  • How to stop someone from filling out pdf form multiple times?

My customers order my service by down loading a .pdf form. They then fill out the form and submit the form to my email. How do I stop a customer from submitting the form multiple times. I would like for the customer to submit the form only once filled out. If I need more info I could follow up to their order manually via email. Thanks for your help!

One of the main reasons why you have a customer posting multiple submits would be because for some reason he/she doesn't know the first one was successful.
Add a property your form to record whether or not a valid submit has already happened. Use script to set that property on submit. Check each time the submit operation is fired to see if the property is set. If it is display an error dialog and stop the submit from occurring.
If someone wants to open multiple copies of your form and fill it out and send it to you, well there's nothing you can do about that.

  • Editing PDF Forms using C#

I'm completly new to PDF form creation.
I have loads of PDF forms which I need to edit and fill using C#.
My app is a desktop application. But I have not been able to find any resource which shows the steps of do'in this using Acrobat SDK and API,
Can anyone direct me to some links which actually show how to get started with such C# developments.
    Thanks & regards,
    Rohan

If it is truely a fillable form, then when you move the cursor over a field it will change to an I-bar. Then just select the field and enter. If it is only the picture of a form, then you need to either use the form tools to create the fields or just simply use the typewriter tool to fill in the information.
You basically have provided no information about the file really being a form or what, so that is my feedback to you.

  • ALC-WKS-007-027 error while loading PDF form

    Hello,
I have created a process to load pdf form. When I invoke the process on woekbench, it works.   But when I tried to load it on workspace, the workspace showed
"An error occured during the opeartion (endpoint id 2601). (ALC-WKS-007-027)"
The process is look same as sample "render pdf form" process, the only thing I modified is the formUrl, I unchecked the input for formURL and add a pdf url as default value.
    Any idea?

I also found the error under log file:

  • Forms slow to load in Prosight V7

We are having difficulty with forms being slow to load in Prosight. It can take up to 20 seconds for a form to load.
I have found if I redo the Statistics on the SQL tables it settles down back to normal but does not seem to last long as a fix.
It seems that the SQL execution plan that the database comes up with isn't stable and slows things down again.
Anyone else had issues with forms loading slowly, if so is there a fix that sticks ?
    Let me know - cheers.

I am also having trouble with large pdf files ie. architectural plans. My problem is using in PDF Expert. Very slow. I have contacted PDF Expert support and they tell me they are using the system for rendering pdf's and it has been a problem since iOS5. This is a problem Apple needs to fix.

  • Load data in xml file into Pdf form created by LiveCycle Designer

I want to load data in xml file into Pdf form when Pdf opened and Form field will be filled with data from xml file .I try to use $host.importdata("filename.xml"); But i could not find suitable place to run my code. Can anyone give me some advice? thank you.

    Hi,
extract your xml and then you can use insert all clause.
here's very small example on 10.2.0.1.0
    SQL> create table table1(id number,val varchar2(10));
    Table created.
    SQL> create table table2(id number,val varchar2(10));
    Table created.
    SQL> insert all
      2  into table1 values(id,val)
      3  into table2 values(id2,val2)
      4  select extractValue(x.col,'/a/id1') id
      5        ,extractValue(x.col,'/a/value') val
      6        ,extractValue(x.col,'/a/value2') val2
      7        ,extractValue(x.col,'/a/id2') id2
      8  from (select xmltype('<a><id1>1</id1><value>a</value><id2>2</id2><value2>b</value2></a>') col from dual) x;
    2 rows created.
    SQL> select * from table1;
            ID VAL
             1 a
    SQL> select * from table2;
            ID VAL

  • How to Supply the form field values to a pdf form when loading it

I am working on a web site project using Asp.net where the user has to fill in a PDF eform in acrobat reader. Then when he clicks on submit it returns to my asp.net app and the PDF form supplies the values back to my asp.net app. So my asp.net app has the values that were filled in the PDF form and can save those values and work with them...
    OK.
What I need to know is when I am in my asp.net app, and the user wants to go back and reopen the same form, from my asp.net app..... then how do I pass back the values that were saved back to the PDF form??
I know if I had a way to pass the values to the PDF form in some way then in the Doc.open or doc.load event of the form I could easily write a little javascript to plug in the values in the PDF form fields.
but how do I pass those values from my asp.net app to my PDF form???
    thanks

Thanks bcweed for all the info. I fixed my problem, it had something to do with LiveCycle Designer. If I just use Acrobat to add the form fields, then the FDF works fine. As to your situation with the SavToBuf, that happens to be the method that I am using, so I will just post my code here, and maybe you can pick out what is different from yours. The Response.BinaryWrite(FDFin.FDFSaveToBuf)is at the bottom.

I created a pdf form and then imported it to Forms Central for distribute. It is now loaded to my website and setup so a person clicks on the link to open the form. At this point they then have to go to upper right to open form using a different view. I would like the form to open directly in Adobe Reader form to make it easier to enter information. Thanks, Ike

If you created it in Forms Central, you have to edit it there. I believe Forms Central is similar to LiveCycle Designer in that the form created is no longer able to be edited in Acrobat. I might be wrong, but that is my understanding. You add the submit button in Forms Central. Within Acrobat, you should be able to go to the forms menu and Manage Data to save the data to an Excel file. Others better with forms should be by to clarify things, but this should get you started. In the future you might find it better to post a forms question in the forms discussions.

  • How to Pass XML Data to a PDF Form and Load it into form fields

I have xml Form data in a string. I would like open a programatically launch a pdf document and pass the xml data as one of the parameters and this xml data needs to load all the form fields.
Any Idea as to how this can be done?

I have the same requirement as Daminu, but from the research I have been doing it seems your reply is only partially true.
If your PDF is an XFA PDF form, with Reader Extensions enabled, and you want to keep the Reader Extensions functionality for a user to use after your programmatic manipulation, then neither of these tools will work (FDFToolkit or iText).
Upon the user opening the file once it has been programmatically modified, the user will see the following:
From what I have read, this requirement can only be fullfilled by use of LiveCycle Reader Extensions Server?  Please confirm?
