Slow to switch to wi-fi

Has anyone else noticed this issue:
If Im at home, have my iphone wi-fi turned on and connected to my home network. I'll set the phone down - come back to it a minute or five minutes later and go to check email or surf the web and my phone is on the EDGE network, wi-fi does not show as being connected. It will usually take anywhere from 5-10 seconds for it to automatically switch back to wi-fi.
My first generation iphone never did this - it would stay connected to wi-fi - but the 3G phone seems to wanna switch back to EDGE or 3G and then slowly 'remember' the wi-fi is on and it should use that option.

I'm positive it's nothing to do iwth my wi-fi conneciton. The problem occurs only when my iphone is sitting idle, then I'll pick it up to check email and I know for a fact the wi-fi is on - but for some reason its starts out on the EDGE network and you can see it processing checking the various email accounts I have and only after about 10 seconds does it then switch back to wi-fi and the process speeds up of course.
I just don't understand why it does not stay on wi-fi - I'm thinking perhaps when it is just sitting there in standby mode it drops the wi-fi, which is fine, but I just wish it did not take 5-15 seconds to re-engage it.

  • Ios7 Update Problems on iPad 3 - My iPad is not going to black screen after not being touched.  Also, am I crazy; I can't find timing adjustment to go to black.  Finally, iPad slow to switch between some catgagories in control panel

O.K.  I found 3 issues on my iPad 3 after ios update:
    1.  iPad does not go to black after non-use
    2.  iPad is slow to switch between some catagories in control panel
    3.  Speaking of control panel; have I lost my mind?  I can't find time adjustment responsible for iPad going to black.

Outside of the contact number for that you've already used I don't know another way of direct contact. Here are some things that they may or may not of had you try that might help you. If you will go to the settings app and pick general on the right-hand side you will see accessibility. Within that you can adjust a text size make the text bowl you can also increase the contrast. You can also adjust the brightness and control panel.
As for Siri again in the settings app under general you should see Siri on the right-hand side with the switch to turn it on. If that is turned on and you're still having issues
    Try a Restart.
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button for a few seconds until the red "slide to power off" slider appears, and then slide the slider. Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button until the Apple logo appears.
     Resetting your settings
You can also try resetting all settings. Settings>General>Reset>Reset All Settings. You will have to enter all of your device settings again.... All of the settings in the settings app will have to be re-entered. You won't lose any data, but it takes time to enter all of the settings again.
    Resetting your device
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button together for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears. Apple recommends this only if you are unable to restart it.
Or if this doesn't work and nobody else on the blog doesn't have a better idea you can contact Apple.
Here is a link to their contacts with most of the information below.

  • G5 dual/1.8GHZ slow when switching users and starting mail, opening files

I have 20' imac dual cpu G5/1.8ghz/1gig/250gig drive with 10.4.11.
It is much slower than the G5 it replaced. Symptoms include: very slow when switching to another user desk tops, opening up the hard drive for the first time once you get there, opening entourage or mail for the first time; lots of beach balls.
The drive has more than half the space left, we don't have many applications running, our iphoto and itunes libraries are under 20 gig combined. I ran the disk utility and cleaned up permissions. We typically leave the mac on all the time but restart occasionally.
    Any ideas?

We'll let you in because you used to have a G5 iMac , but you really should post on the dual page. Anyway, have you cleaned your caches in the browser you use? You can use OnyX to clean all the caches. Make sure you empty the trash in all your user accounts as well. Try resetting the PRAM too.
    Hope some of this helps,

  • PS CC 2014 Slow Layer Switch

I am running PS CC 2014 on a 27 inch iMac. My version of PS is up to date. But I've been having problems with sluggish performance for three to four days.
I try to switch between layers using the shortcuts and it's really slow. Even when I switch to an adjustment layer, the properties tab takes almost a second to load. I even re-installed a clean copy of OS X 10.9.4. But I still have the same issues.
I am totally going insane now. I really hope to fix this issue.
    My System :
Processor  3.2 GHz Intel Core i5
    Memory  24 GB 1600 MHz DDR3
Graphics  NVIDIA GeForce GTX 675MX 1024 MB
Has the current versiona of Photoshop, Lightroom and Bridge.

Here's the thing. I don't have any other extra plugin installed. To eliminate any OS issues, I installed a clean copy and then used photoshop without installing any other softwares. Just my OS X and Photoshop without any modifications.
But still, I have the same problem. The other thing is that, when I use alt +[ or ] to cycle layers, it's slow. If I save the same thing as an action and run the action, I'm able to switch to another layer instantly.

  • 4s trouble with wifi. it connects however is very slow then switches back to 3g

If anyone out there could help I would appreciate it!
iphone 4s brought as a replacement form Apple on the 6 September  2013 has developed an issue!
I can connect to my home BT HomeSpot however its so slow and will then go back to 3g, so frustrating!  I have a BT Booster and the single is strong, we have no problem with any of our other devices.
i've been to the Apple store twice now and they've said there is nothing wrong with the device as it works on there wifi!
    Can anyone help?

I have brought the Virgin Media super hub back to the manufacturing original configuration then changed the user name and password. Only my iphone was connected. Then I've switched to 5 Ghz = 30Mbpm BANG!; went back to 2.4Ghz=dead. Now is getting worst. At the beginning it was picking at least 2Mbpm. Then 1. Then 0.something. Now it doesn't even connect. I'm pretty sure the iphone 5 must have 2 antennas and the one that uses 2.4Ghz is just gone.
    Any advice?

  • Re 1000 slow to switch connection ?????

So actually the extender works . But it takes about 15 seconds to maybe 60 seconds to switch from the normal router to the RE 1000 and so on.  And sometimes it doesn't seem to switch at all???
So it's not really handy like this. It happens with all the machines but mostly with the android phones....
Is there something I can configure to make it switch instantly???

    eezdva wrote:
Yeah it's slow when connecting wirelessly.
Like I'm on a boat. And when I move from one room to the other it sometimes takes on minute to go from my normal router (Thomson tw 850) to the re 1000. I have a normal windows 8 and a windows 7 laptop and 2 android phones.
You mean the wireless network name of the regular router is not the same with the RE1000? They should be the same. By the way, how far is the RE1000 from the router?
How about using the following method:
Configuring the Linksys RE1000 with a gateway using Site Survey

  • Encore 2.0 Very slow when switching apps

I have only been using Encore for about 2 weeks since I got it as part of the production studio suite. I must admit I am really taking to this product having got over the initial learning curve.
But I do have a problem with it's performance when switching from any other app. I tend to restrict running apps to those I need for the project, such as premier, AE,photoshop.
If for example I edit a menu in Photoshop and then return to Encore, the Encore menu bar is drawn immediately but it can take up a minute for the rest of the UI to be drawn.
The system is WinXP2 pro on a p4 with 2gb ram. The entire project and
files are on an external USB drive which has about 150GB free space.
The issue doesn't appear to be disk access but I do notice one of the HT CPU's tops out at 100% ish whilst this is happening.
I am running a virus checker (McAfee) but have this set to only check programs
    Any suggestions willingly received!
    Dave

    More info:
Not suprisingly this problem appears to get worse depending on the complexity of the Encore project. First let me give you an example of how I measure this "slowness"!
    1) Lauch Encore 2.0 from start bar.Takes 20 seconds before it asks for new/existing project...maybe a bit slow but not a big deal.
    2) Create a new project on a drive with 100GB+ space and call it forum test. Takes less than 5 seconds before app is stable and UI is ready.
    3) Mimize/maximize application. Instantaneous...great so far!
    4) Open existing project with multiple slide shows (8) animated menues with audio and about 30 minutes of video. Project has about 15 menus. Takes 5 minutes to open and CPU to settle back down. Disk IO not the bottleneck here. OK, it's slow to load but I can live with that!
    5) as a test, launch notepad...Launch instantaneous...as you would expect..have task manager running at the same time..
    6) With Encore doing nothing in the backgroumd, minimize notepad so encore gets focus. Immediately in task manager the CPU goes up to 50% (P4 HT) and sits therefore 4 minutes and then the app is usable again. Minimize Encore and maximise notepad pad. Launch Premier Pro 2.0 and open a project - few seconds. Minimise Premier - instant. Max premier. Instant. Close notepad and premier. Instant.
    7) Max Encore...5 minutes...once the app has got focus it may not be the fastest in the world but it is usable. The trouble is I find in a complex DVD project I do need to use other apps such as photoshop and premier...
    Any other suggestions?
    Thanks in Advance,
    Dave

  • Slow window switching after Yosemite install.

    Macbook Pro Retina 15" (2012)
Having a problem since Yosemite with window switching, using CMD-W to switch windows.  The switching works, but it's extremely slow.  It's to the point where sometimes I can see a frame of the window come in and then the controls are drawn.  Sad that this machine was so fast with Mavericks.
Weird thing I noticed is it's only when I'm unplugged from my two monitors.  When I'm using the MBP as an actual laptop, it's extremely slow.  (Plugged in or battery, both)  But when I am plugged in to my two monitors (24 inch and 23 inch) I don't have the problem, switching windows is back to normal.
I researched and can't find anything that would cause this.
I only notice one thing weird is discoveryd is always running and at around 15 - 20+ % all the time.  I can't see how that would do it, but I'm at a loss.
    Thanks

Try these in order testing your system after each to see if it's back to normal:
    1. a. Resetting your Mac's PRAM and NVRAM
        b. Intel-based Macs: Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC)
    2. Restart the computer in Safe Mode, then restart again, normally. If this doesn't help, then:
Boot to the Recovery HD: Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the
COMMAND and R keys until the Utilities menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the
computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager
screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
    3. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions: Upon startup select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions as follows.
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the main menu. Select Restart from the Apple menu.
    4. Reinstall Yosemite: Reboot from the Recovery HD. Select Reinstall OS X from the Utilities menu, and click on the Continue button.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.

  • Blackberry Hub slow when switching from any account to an Exchange Activesync account

I'm experiencing a very slow hub when switching from any account (facebook, LinkedIn, Whatsapp, Gmail, etc...) TO my work email using Exchange Activesync. When switching back from Exchange Activesync TO any other account the issue is noy there. It basically takes a couple of minutes to enter the Exchange Activesync acocunt, and looking at the Device Monitor, CPU section, seems like the Hub process is constantly at 50% CPU usage during this time. This is really causing me lots of issues, as of course I switch between accounts quite frequently. Any suggestions are welcome. Thanks for the support!

I'm having the same issue.  What can be causing it.
It was fine using a Z30 until 10.3.1.1865 was recently updated.
Switching between all other accounts is fine just when going to my exchange account (or the main hub view)

  • SLOW WHEN SWITCH TAB

My problem is just the slow switching over multiple tabs in Firefox. Each time I go to another tab it takes a while (sluggish), or you can say the ‘click’ on the tab takes time to happen. The rest Firefox is working perfect in speed.

    Tyler,
'''Thanks for the reply - it seems to have worked.''' For anyone else looking at this thread, the option Tyler mentions is on the "General" tab rather than the "Tabs" tab. It also takes some mucking around to un-click the "Don't load..." setting.
I had to select the "Show my windows..." option from the "When Firefox starts:" setting. Then I could un-click the "Don't load..." setting. Then you can re-set what ever you were using for the "When Firefox starts:" setting.

  • IMac is very slow after switching to OSX Mavericks

I'm still getting used to the philosophy of this site, so excuse me if I stray.  I had posted in a different thread and was asked to start a new thread.
I have a 20-inch, Early 2008 iMac and I've been upgraded to 10.9.4 for a few weeks.  I did have the fan problem, but sorted that out, forget what I did but may be able to retrace my steps.
But, the machine is so slow now - really not tolerable.  Every program I launch just takes a lot of time.  Even launching Textedit that used to just flash up is sow.  Safari is now very slow to launch.  Google, which I use all the time and was normally slow, is now excruciating.  Logging on, I have to wait a long time to even put in the PW.  Once open, most applications are tolerable.  But, like others have mentioned, the machine is just slower at everything.  I watch "Activity Monitor" to see what's using what for memory and CPU, and nothing new with that compared to 10.6.8 except it's not as good giving me the information I want in an quickly readable form.
Do I need to just go back to 10.6.8, or is this Mac's hardware is not compatible with 10.9.4?  It seemed that the upgrade was recommended for this machine.
I'd appreciate any thoughts, recommendation, suggestions. Thanks!
PS:  I was asked to send top 5 CPU and then the average User CPU....
    Firefox                    6.7%
    Activity Monitor     1.0 %
    Window Server     0.8%
    Firefox Plugin         1.1%
    kernel_task          0.4%
    User:                    4 - 11%
As you know, these constantly change, but I just jotted things down in the list above.  Nothing was taking any serious time.  Firefox will momentarily go up to 30%.  I know when Time Machine is slowing things down because I can see it backing up with the icon on the menu bar, but that's not only when it's slow.  It's just always slow starting applications or opening new windows in Firefox, opening a new window in Word or Excel.  I always have Activity Monitor open to watch for anything unusual, like if Firefox is bogging me down.
The question is should I expect this OS to be bogging this machine down, in general?  Thanks!

It would be nice to know how much RAM is installed. A report of this would help:
You should use Activity Monitor to check for:
Open Activity Monitor in the Utilities folder.  Select All Processes from the View menu.  Click on the CPU tab in the toolbar. Click twice on the CPU% column header to display in descending order.  If you find a process using a large amount of CPU time (>=70,) then select the process and click on the Quit icon in the toolbar.  Click on the Force Quit button to kill the process.  See if that helps.  Be sure to note the name of the runaway process so you can track down the cause of the problem.
If this doesn't help, then:

computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager
screen appears.
Reinstall the 10.9.4 update: OS X Mavericks 10.9.4 Update (Combo).
    4. Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion, Mavericks: Reboot from the Recovery HD. Select Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion, Mavericks from the Utilities menu, and click on the Continue button.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.

  • Why is the Camera app so slow when switching modes?

When I switch modes between still-photo and video (or back) in the Camera application, there is a 2-3 second pause while the "iris" appears and disappears. Ok, that's not very long, but when you are in a rush to capture "that moment" it can be all the difference between "great" and "rats!".
I get that an app can take a few seconds to load, but switching camera modes should be nearly instantaneous, shouldnt it? Do other people see the same delay, or is it just me? Are there any known tweaks to improve this delay?
On an iPhone 4 with latest iOS.
    --Tim

I don't know why Apple doesn't fix this problem or even acknowledge it. I have had this problem since 1.1.2. Upgrading through 1.1.3, 1.1.4 and on the 2.1 has not helped. My SMS loading time varies between 3 and 10 seconds. I maintain all my SMS messages deleted (which I should not have to do). Due to lack of support from Apple I purchased a Nokia phone for my son. At least basic phone features work like they should.

  • Outlook:Mac 2011 Slow When Switching to Contacts

I am having problems with Outlook Mac.  I am on a 1.7 GHz i5 4GB Macbook Air.  When I switch from mail or calendar to contacts, the spinning wheel goes for about 15 seconds before I can search a contact.  I can seach for a contact just fine using spotlight, but I am not accustom to this and am using it more as a workaround.  I have about 3,000 contacts so I don't think this is some sort of volume issue.  On spotlight, it searches fast, just if I click on contacts while in Outlook does it seem to take forever before I can start searching.  Once I'm past the 15 seconds of waiting, it operates as one would expect.  if I click on calendar or mail and then right back to contacts, I'll need to wait again.  Has anyone experienced this?  Any suggestions on how to resolve it?
    Thanks, Stephen

It has been quite some time since this question has been asked, and like many others, I have scoured the net looking for a solution and I believe that I have found one.
I deleted the Outlolok preferences out of ~/Library/Preferences and restarted Outlook. Behold, the problem was gone. Until I switched the sorting of the Contacts from the default "Name" to "Last Name". When I did that, the problem came back. In fact, if I changed the sorting to anything other than "Name", the delay would reappear. I tested this on three different MacBooks and the results were replicated across all three.
If you are still having this problem, check to see how your contacts are sorted. It would be interesting to know if this "fix" helps anyone else.
