Slowly loosing it

i use windows live mail and over the last 3/4 weeks i think i have had to change my password about 15/20 times i get emails on two days maybe, then it asks me for my password when i enter it it says it wrong, i have to go to bt.com and try and sign in there to email when i try to it shows me a page that says something about suspicious activity, tells me to download some firewall which i don't need or want and i have to change my password..then sign in to bt mail at yahoo this is the only way i can get my e mails..i can receive them on bt yahoo mail and windows live mail..so every 2 days i have to go through this rigmarole to get them??
i know nothing about email accounts or how they work but i don't think you should have to change your password every two days.. i now have went through about 20 passwords in the last few weeks and if i did not need the computer it would have been out the **bleep** window long ago, but at the present time i am beginning not to care anymore so if any kind person can be of any help please do before its to late!!!!!! because i think i will go along with the computer

My iphone slowly looses free memory

I have a problem where every time I delete an app I have LESS FREE MEMORY. When I delete large files like videos, free memory increases but then, over time, looses available memory even if I am doing nothing on the phone until there isn't any free memory left. Usually takes 1/2 an hour.
I have reinitialized my iphone to factory settings a few times and then restored from itunes and, for a day or so, things seem fine but then this scenerio happens again. Very frustrating. Not sure how to fix.

Check to make sure youdon't have any automatic downloads set for podcasts or songs in your settings, maybe? Could be that your apple id is set to automatically download new songs, but it still seems ridiculous that it'd fill up that quickly.
If you plug your device into itunes and go to the device page, it should show you what sort of files are taking up so much space. Which colors do you see grow from when things are normal to half an hour later?

Songs disappear from itunes library - and from the harddrive - by itself. One song here and there, not entire albums. Have been surfing on the web, and can see that many people have this problem. What is the solution?

I'm deeply worried. About to digitalize my entire CD collection, but can't continue until this problem is solved, or i'll risk slowly loosing my music. Song by song. Discovered the problem while browsing the Itunes library, when I realised that for example song number 2 and 11 was missing from one album, and 4 and 7 from another album. Very strange. When browsing the when I found lots of people experiencing the same. I'm using the 2011 Macbook Pro, and the Itunes library is on the Macbook Pro harddrive.

just want to add that i use Itunes 10.4.1. But I can see that users have problems with many versions.

HT1926 Today 1/29/14 I attempted to update iTunes to the latest version - I got Error 7 (193) on W7 64 bit PC. I did everything to completely uninstall all apple folders on this site. I followed every step. I did this three times.

Apple is slowly loosing me as a valued customer. I attempted to update to the latest version of iTunes (11.1.4.62) for my desktop W7 service pack 1 64 bit PC. It would not upgrade it even told me that the install verson was incorrectly installed. Error 7 (193). Wow. An attempt to update the verson and the whole install is corrupt. I followed every step to uninstall iTunes and all the Apple directories. I installed it only to crash everytime. I repaired it. No improvement. I uninstalled it again as this support sight suggests. Still iTunes began "unresponsive" and closed. I reinstalled on another harddrive - no luck.
How is it Apple with all its glory and money can mess up a simple thing as an update? I, in good faith, do as Apple suggests and now I can't access my purchased content. I will voice my opinion and see if Apple will correct this ASAP for ask for all my money back - well over 40 movies, 2,000 songs and 300 music videos.

Hey I finally got an older vesion of itunes to work!!! 10.7 x64 for windows 7
After uninstalling all apple products even quicktime
I had to delete everything from (program files, and program files x64, program data,)
And all downloads from apple, and I went in to search deleted other stuff from apple, and itunes
But definently not my itunes library and Playlist
Down loaded 10.7 x64 for windows 7, but checked (do not start when done)
Then I emptied my recycling bin and restarted my PC
I ran geek tech tool box same as reg cure pro, also PC Tools registry cleaner, and CC Cleaner
Then I emptied my recycling bin and restarted my PC
And wallah... It finally works, and I Love the older version anyways.
Easier to download and transfer music!!!!!

I just installed my new audigy 4 pro with the Gigaworks s750.
Well, all is fine with the sound quality but when i solicite more the system hard dri've, there is some loud bad noise that appaird.
i contacted the heldesk, they told me to r?install my windows!
I'm not really happy front of this lake of quality from cr?ati've.
I used a AC97 chipset onboard before and no disturbing noise appaird during transfering files or open heavy applications.
I seen in the forum that many X FI chipset present the same problem when playing games.
The help desk ask me too to change the pci slot or install the audigy in another
computer !!! thru!!
I responded that is not my job to make the card working but , yes i can give some feedback to them.
I think that creativelabs are front of a situation now that they slowly loose they good reputation with they new products that are not really stable and ready for the sale.
But many companys use this system to put a product on the market.
The first buyers pay the reshearch to finish the conception of the final product.
where i don't agree is to pay so much amount of money for a product that they said is working (4 pro) but is still in prototyp or beta testing !!

My daughter has had her Razr for about 9 months now. About two weeks ago she picked up her phone in the morning on her way to school when she noticed two cracks, both starting at the camera lens. One goes completely to the bottom and the other goes sharply to the side. She has never dropped it and me and my husband went over it with a fine tooth comb. We looked under a magnifying glass and could no find any reason for the glass to crack. Not one ding, scratch or bang. Our daughter really takes good care of her stuff, but we still wanted to make sure before we sent it in for repairs. Well we did and we got a reply from Motorola with a picture of the cracks saying this was customer abuse and that it is not covered under warranty. Even though they did not find any physical damage to back it up. Well I e-mailed them back and told them I did a little research and found pages of people having the same problems. Well I did not hear from them until I received a notice from Fed Ex that they were sending the phone back. NOT FIXED!!! I went to look up why and guess what there is no case open any more for the phone. It has been wiped clean. I put in the RMA # it comes back not found, I put in the ID #, the SN# and all comes back not found. Yet a day earlier all the info was there. I know there is a lot more people like me and all of you, but they just don't want to be bothered so they pay to have it fix, just to have it do it again. Unless they have found the problem and only fixing it on a customer pay only set up. I am furious and will not be recommending this phone to anyone. And to think I was considering this phone for my next up grade! NOT!!!!

PowerBook G4 12" Question

I currently have the latest revision of a 12 inch PowerBook - this is my first laptop computer. I was wondering if using an external display will prolong the life of my PowerBook's LCD display. If it does, would keeping the lid closed and using an external display most of the time be bad for the internal components of the laptop?

Really good question.
Some people say LCDs slowly loose their brightness as time goes by, so using an external display could slow down that aging process.
On the other side, a closed screen will be exposed to more heat from the CPU which in return might not be that good.
Said that, many people are using their computer with the screen closed. Some have actually disabled the "go to sleep" function when closing the lid, so the PB continues rendering their video projects or whatever.
My advise:
USE IT!
I know, that when reading these trouble shooting boards, you get a false perception of reality. Knowing what could possibly go wrong, I guess I've become one of those super careful users as well.
Still, if you have the opportunity to use your 12" screen and an external display, use both! Screen real-estate is one of the best things to have and will make you more productive. I don't thing it's worth it, trying to extend the life of your built in LCD by that method. Assuming there would actually be a difference in the long run, in 5 years your Powerbook will be outdated anyway.
Enjoy it as much as you can today.

OS X could not be installed on your computer

... well that's what I've been doing now for at least the last 6 hours without success.
I've even created a bootable USB stick to load Yosemite (with a new installer stub), but still get the same error.
The installer log throws back quite a few errors during the install process, I have no idea why. My MBP is a Retina 2012 model
so hardware should all be up to scratch.
I can't even restart the machine (revert) as the computer now goes into a loop and will no longer start into Mavericks.
The long and short of it is, I can no longer get into my MBP. My personal HD files are all still there, but I can't get Yosemite installed for
some reason. Help please somebody!

This doesn't work for me.
although the installation process looks like it's slightly different by these means vis a vis the USB installer startup disk i created. With the USB key it gets to about 15 minutes before reporting probelms with the pkg. file, now it gets to random install time left.
via Cmd + R recovery. the first time the installer got to about 4 mins remaining and bombed out saying 'an error occurred while preparing the installation. Try running the installer again. When I rebooted I had to log into my Wireless network again as it had forgotten the password, which somehow it had never asked for during the last several attempts.
During this latest install attempt, the counter showing the remaining time at one point grew to 34 hours, has now shrunk down again to 33 mins and has been stuck on that for at least an hour and a half. Think its timed out somewhere behind the scenes.
Interestingly, the installer log is full of errors. They don't mean much to me, but it isn't happy.
The Install Asst. reports error 395: Failed to verify InstallESD.dmg: hdutil verify failed
then: Retrying Pisa://7fbbe4f7cc90:::/InstallESD.dmg after 1 failure.... 2 failures etc etc/
Im slowly loosing my mind here.Ive never had any uissues like this for as long as I've been a Mac user.
My very first mac was a Mac SE...
and as luck would have it, I didn't have a current backup thinking all would be well (as it has always been during updates/upgrades).
I've been able to copy my HD using the DiskUtil onto another external drive and all my files are accessible that way, so I haven't lost anything,
but this is really really really really annoying. Did I mention this was annoying?

i installed systemd with initscripts for arch.
i improve my boot just a little and something like rc.local.service don't work.
my question is: why systemd for a fast distribution like archlinux?

The simpler your setup, the smaller the benefit of course. That said, the benefit would be that you can start a daemon when a certain device is plugged in (e.g. bluez when a bluetooth adapter appears or cups when a printer is connected), or when a certain file appears, etc.
This is obviously not something for everyone, but for early boot (think rc.sysinit) this kind of control is very useful, and allows us to remove some hacks that we currently have.
3: - automounting of any device on first access with fsck pre-mount (how often do you really need /boot mounted?)
For me, all the normal drives are mounted in fstab, to be there all the time anyways,
and others, like my usb or cd'drives, i really do prefer to mount them myself at need,
most usb drives has a long wake-up time, so it is quite annoying to have it re-mounted when accessed,
and it takes quite a bit of time,
Systemd is only meant to control devices in /etc/fstab, typically your usb devices would be controlled by udisks, so that is sort of a different discussion. It might be worth pointing out that systemd would not "re-mount on access", the fs is fsck'ed and mounted on first access and stays mounted after that. Examples of why this might be useful is, as Dave mentioned, fs'es that are rarely used (/boot), but also fs'es that are always mounted might benefit from automounting. In order to speed up my boot I automount my /home. This means that systemd will start fscking/mounting it as soon as it can, but it will not wait for /home to be available before starting kdm (or any other service). Rather, if and when kdm tries to access /home it will just wait until the directory becomes available.
4; - daemon supervision

This (along with the point below) is the most important feature of systemd, imho. The point is that with systemd an administrator can know the state of the system, which is not really possible with sysvinit. You can find out if a daemon is running, stopped or crashed, and you know which processes belong to which daemon. Even if you have several instances of the same daemon, and it's children have double-forked (so a simple "ps aux" tells you nothing). Once we have this, we can make policies of what to do in given scenarios. Restarting crashing daemons, etc. As of the next version of systemd we'll also have (optional) watchdog support. I.e., if a daemon hangs without crashing, it will be restarted, and if systemd itself hangs the computer will be rebooted.
5: - fine grained control of services -- niceness, oom_adj_score, scheduling policy, fd 0,1,2 redirections, syslog facility/prio, security limits...
Are these really properties that we cannot already control without systemd as a system-swiss-army-knife?
Everything can be controlled in the individual rc script now. However, especially in the case of security sensitive settings, getting it right is very difficult so it either not done, or it is done wrongly. In systemd's unit file, you just specifiy what you want, and systemd itself will take care of all the fiddly details to get it right (and if there are bugs, they will be fixed in one place that benefit all daemons, on all distros).
Finally, the boot-time discussion also feels a bit unmotivated,
again, not booting every service under the sun already,
and computer-speed increasing alleviates this.
I believe that boot-time can never be fast enough, and with systemd we have the opportunity to improve it a lot. Imagine the embedded case of switching on a phone / TV. You don't want to wait around for several seconds before you can use it. The fact that we accept long waits when it comes to computers is just sad imho.
While systemd already improves speed somewhat (or a lot, depending on who you ask), there are still lots of cases to improve, so I am very optimistic about this. The difference between systemd and sysvinit is that in sysvinit we don't have the architecture in place to start optimizing, and we don't have contributors who focus on this.
The booting time is the thing that bothers me most to be hearing about repetively as a reason for systemd, even if that might not be it's larger drive.
The boot times _are_ fast already, when one deals carefully with what one runs or loads,
shaving,. say, 1-10 to perhaps even 20 seconds for booting off (if going extreme), what would one have done in those few seconds that was so important?
For me, it feels like taking one, or three sips on my coffe or not, before getting to business,
it is not something that hinders me from completing my work, those few seconds,
and a stable system is not meant to be booted often at all.
Even booting as often as once a day, 20 seconds a day is not a critical lose of time.
I boot in about 8 seconds after bios and grub has done their thing, and my mothers much older machine does it in 15 perhaps,
it was a long time ago boot time felt annyoing in my opinion.
The other virtues you meantion, they do sound like good things, certainly,
but as it stands now, having followed the systemd mailing list, and arch-dev-mail discussions, and threads here on arch,
i still don't see any great benifits from what i read people discussing/saying/reporting.
Most often, it is about why something that has already worked well, does not work that easily, with systemd.
And in the systemd mailing list, many replies to things not working seems to end with stuff like:
"Well, we won't support that no more/that is not supported no more on fedora, other distros will probably follow suit",
Why all the fuss?, do we really need to repair things?
I will deal with systemd when i have too, i just do not think it fits into either KISS,, or linux principle,
And i hope Arch can be on systemd and still feel Arch, not just turning into "a distro like the others only with pacman".
Systemd gives me this feeling of slowly loosing the control i have gotten with linux, over,
say, windows-systems and their "services".
But, i think i will save some of my arguments until we have seen where systemd takes us, in linux,
I just hope people stay positively/constructively critical and thinks things over closely
(Oh i do find it hard explaining my thoughts on this in words)

I am trying to authenticate against a background
applications.

I now need to send a record with a header set as a token.

The header I want to set is FLASH_AUTHORIZATION going into a
rails app, but every time I try the header seems not to be there.
I have found many documents and blogs giving various syntax
methods for this, and have been through them. I have also found
blogs which state that authorization header is disabled but it has
been reinstigated and headers do not work with get commands.

Bluetooth woes

not sure what is going on. i have a macbook pro 13inch with 4gigs ram and os 10.7.3.
before i had snow leopard.
i have a logitech keyboard (made for mac) and it has always connected and stayed connected. same with the wireless mighty mouse.
since lion- my mouse slowly looses function (right clicking, followed by side buttons). i disconnect them and try to reconnect- does not happen. then i turn off bluetooth on my lappy and turn it back on and the **** thing puts a huge power button on the screen. sometimes i just tap the mouse to wake up the comptuer and it wakes up only to display the huge power button.
what the heck? i have all the updates. this NEVER EVER happened with leopard or snow leopard. any thoughts?

Misbehaving assets in FCP6.

I have an interesting problem that is occurring inside FCP6. I have a still image asset that has a motion path applied to it. When playing back in preview everything is fine, however, when I render or export a problem develops. Part way thru the motion path my asset has a distortion in it. It seems to adjust itself as if the aspect ratio was changed.
There is no keyframe or aspect ratio change at all. Only rotation and center point changes. If I remove the rotation key frames, then the images moves along the motion path just fine, even after rendering. But when I put the rotation back in, it comes back. I have even completely rebuilt the element by re-importing the asset and re-applying the motion setting, and I get the same thing.
There is another instance of this occurring with an asset that has a crop that comes out of nowhere. Again, in the preview and before render (even in the VIEWER!) everything is fine, but render the element and pop comes the crop up again. No matter if I change the motion, resize the asset even re-import the asset, every time I render, it goes to the same thing.
I'm slowly loosing my mind over this. Please help.

Ok so here is the update.
I managed to figure out a workaround for the images. One of the problems was being caused by a mis-matched aspect ratio on a clip that was under the image track. Deleting the hidden video seemed to fix the problem? Why would video elements on other tracks effect one and other?
One of the other glitches was being caused by a cross-dissolve transition. Deleting it and drawing in an opacity curve in basic motion took care of that.
I was still having problems with the preview showing me something different than the rendered element. But by intentionally messing up the preview, then the render would be in the right place. I am still confused by this and any more insight would be helpful.

Hard drive advice - I'm in a bit of a bind for time.

My friends birthday is very soon, and he recently helped me out of a tough spot. His macbook 2.16 has a hard drive which is slowly loosing sectors - its killing his seek times for everything.
I need to get him a new drive, and I have always found western digital to be the best, so no need to debate that. Also, I'm not getting a 5400rpm drive. I plan to get the Western Digital Scorpio Black 7200rpm 250GB. My confusion is this - do I need to get the version with a "freefall sensor"? It seems rare, expensive and difficult to find. I don't feel its a big deal, but I wonder if the macbook will want it to be there.
WD2500BJKT - this is the 250GB model number with free fall sensor.
WD2500BEKT - this is the 250GB model alone, available everywhere for about 140 bucks.

Just FYI: there've been some reports of a couple bad batches of the 250GB Scorpios. Some people have found them to fail pretty quickly. I've got a 320GB Scorpio, and haven't had any trouble (and the people I know who've had the 250s fail on them have said that the 320s don't exhibit the same problem.)
YMMV though, just figured I'd pass on the information.
