Smartforms to PDF & then show PDF in Browser

Hey,
I have made a smartform and converted the exported OTF to PDF-bin lines in a table. After that, I gave this table to the function so_object_send, and I got an email with the pdf file as attachment.
I call this routine within a BSP. Now it should be possible to view the PDF directly from the browser!
Is it possible to generate the pdf-file with the bin-table by clicking a link and show it directly in the browser? is it also possible to convert the bin-table to a pdf file and download it to the workstation by clicking a link?
I hope, anyone can understand my problem ;o)
Cheers Arne

Hi ,
If the pdf file is located somewhere on your server,
You can use the following FM :
DATA : w_url(600) TYPE c value 'http://....' .
* I imagine if the w_url contains something like that :
* '\SERVERTEMPfile.pdf', it shoud also work.
  CALL FUNCTION 'CALL_BROWSER'
   EXPORTING
     url                           = w_url

    new_window                   = 'X'

  • PDF in-browser will not show attachments panel

    Hi. I'm working with a PDF with attachments. I created it to open with the attachments panel visibile. It works fine except for in Chrome, it shows the PDF in-browser but the attachments panel is not visible. This is causing some problems for our site users.
    What is the solution here. I'm working my IT department to update the .htaccess file to force all PDF files to download, but this seems like an overly complex solution.
    Why won't the attachment panel just show up in Chrome?
    Thanks in advance (if this is not the right forum to ask this, any help would be appreciated)

    That's not exactly helpful, I know I can set my local computer settings . I was looking for a solution to force the download on our users pages. I came up with a solution regardless.
    I just ended updating the .htaccess, adding this command which forces all .pdf files to download versus rendering in the browser, however this is still ignored by Chrome:
    AddType application/octet-stream .pdf
    But since Chrome accepts HTML5, I also added the download attribute:
    <a href="../files/is/2013_EPP_RFP.pdf" download="2013_EPP_RFP.pdf" target="_blank">2013 EPP RFP</a></div>

  • Top bar does not show for displaying PDFs in browser

    The top bar (the one that has: File-Edit-View-Documents-Tools-Window-Help) displays when the Preference is set to NOT display PDFs in my browser. But when I set the Preference to display PDFs in my browser, the top bar does not display.
    How can I get the top bar to display when my Preference is to display PDFs
    in my browser? That is the manner in which I use Acrobat Reader 90 percent of the time.
    I am using Acrobat Reader 9 which I just downloaded yesterday, my operating system is Windows XP (with Service Packs 1 and 2) and my browser is Internet Explorer.
    Can anyone here help me? Or is there a better place to get help on this?
    Milton Beychok

    Well the problem is that, in Windows, the menu bar is owned by the application. When you view the PDF in the browser, the browser owns the menu bar and chooses what to show. Hence it shows only the browser items and not the Reader menus. If you view it outside the browser, Reader is running stand-alone and shows it's menu items.
    I think, all you can do is show make sure the button bars you want are exposed by default.

  • Smartform as PDF On Button Click

    Hello Everyone,
    I need to display a smartform as PDF on click of a button.
    I have done the conversion using CONVERT_OTF. And then,
    CREATE OBJECT cached_response
    EXPORTING add_c_msg = 1.
    *Start display PDF
          cached_response->set_header_field( name  = 'content-type'
                                      value = 'application/pdf' ).
    some Browsers have caching problems when loading PDF format
          cached_response->set_header_field(
                             name  = 'cache-control'
                             value = 'max-age=0' ).
    start PDF viewer either in the Browser or as a separate window
           cached_response->set_header_field(
                               name  = 'content-disposition'
                               value = 'attachment; filename=form.pdf' ).
    finally display PDF format in Browser
          l_pdf_len = xstrlen( l_pdf_xstring ).
         cached_response->set_data( data   = l_pdf_xstring
                              length = l_pdf_len ).
    DATA: OBJ1 TYPE REF TO CL_BSP_NAVIGATION,
                lr_runtime type ref to cl_bsp_runtime.
    CREATE OBJECT OBJ1
      EXPORTING
        RUNTIME = lr_runtime.
    call method OBJ1->RESPONSE_COMPLETE .
    Is this correct, did I miss anything?
    I get a blank screen when I click on the button.
    I know this was asked many times , checked those posts but no help.
    Looking forward to your input.
    Regards,
    Mohit Joshi

    Mohit,
    did you check the smartform itself?
    is it complete executed?
    can you test it via the FM?
    most of the times when the url shows an empty page is that or the SMARTFORM is not executed correctly or the pdf is not opened automatically.

  • Display Smartform in PDF.

    Hi All,
    I have gone through the forum threads to convert a smartform into a pdf document. All of them say to use function module CONVERT_OTF. This function module converts the output of the smartform which is in OTF into the PDF format and we can download the information which opens up with Adobe Reader.
    The question is whether we can display the output of the smartform in Adobe at runtime within the SAP GUI because if it is in the portal then we can set the attribute in SAP Connect, to display the output of SAP Script and Smartforms in PDF.
    I tried this code

    The reson why I had to download is because this does not show the PDF at runtime. Am I missing some parameter here or is there some kind of configuration required to display the smartform in PDF at runtime within the SAP GUI.
    Any hints on this would be greatly appreciated.

  • Open PDF in browser causes blank error box (Windows 7)

    I just freshly installed Windows 7 today. I then installed Adobe Design Premium CS4, including Adobe Acrobat Pro. I use IE8 and Firefox 3.6.
    FYI, this problem does not occur in Windows Vista or lower...only Windows 7.
    The problem is that when I click on links to PDF documents that open in a browser window, a blank error message box will sometimes popup and nothing else happens (see blank error box below). But other times when I click on the same PDF, it will open just fine. I tried opening it four times in a row, and it worked 3/4 times. Then, I did it four times again, and it only worked 1/4 that time. Totally random.
    So I tried clearing the browser cache - no luck.
    Tried reinstalling Adobe Reader 9.3 - no luck.
    Tried uninstalling Adobe.com and Adobe AIR - no luck.
    Tried both IE8 and Firefox - both randomly showed the blank error box.
    The PDF documents are being rendered through PHP, so I also tried changing the PHP header(), but the same blank error box kept randomly showing up.
    What in the world is going on here?

    Guys,
    There is a simple workaround for this. Just DON'T "Display PDF in a Browser". At first I was going to have all the users in my company Right-Mouse Click and Save PDF to their Desktop. But then realized it's just simpler to have the PDF open in the Reader and it gets around the problem fine. This is a great workaround until the whole Windows 7/IE8/Adobe PDF situation mature a bit.
    In case you forgot the instructions from John, here's how:
    Open Adobe Reader or Adobe Acrobat (Pro):
    -> select the menu "Edit"
    -> select "Preferences"
    -> select the Category "Internet"
    -> UNCHECK the "Display PDF in browser"
    This worked for our company. Hope it works for you.

  • CONVERTING SMARTFORM INTO PDF AND PRINTING DIRECTLY

    Hai guys,
       I got a problem.
    First the Smartform I created doesnt show all TABLE LINES(the rows coloumns)...
    so I have converted the SMART FORM to ADOBE FORM PROGRAMITICALY ...
    now in order to PRINT ..
    one has to first SAVE the FORM(adobe form) onto desktop(or whereever) and give it to PRINT...
    unfortunately my CLIENT doeasnt like the EXTRA STEP..
    so i best i can SAVE the file to a hardcoded location and
    OPEN it ..
    But then CAN I
    a)PRINT DIRECTLY without SAVING??
    b)ISSUE PRINT PROGRAMITICALY
    c)I learnt that a SMARTFORM can be GENERATED INTO PDF only at RUNNTIME(from SMARTFORMS>UTILITIES etc)..i briefly tried that..can I use that to GET THE PDF to PRINT when one gives PRINT from SPOOL REQUEST(sp01)

  • Smartform to PDF - ESS

    Hi,
    We are facing a strange problem. We implemented the payroll pay stub for ESS by means of form from PE51 to smartform and output of smartform into PDF on the portal.
    We also added a logo picture to the smartform. The pay stub looked just fine in development.
    We then transported to QAS. When I transported, I had 3 transports: one that contained the logo, one for the smart form and one for the two features that have to be setup to determine the form from PE51 to be processed and the smartform that is to be converted to PDF.
    In QAS we had the surprise to see that the logo didn't show - I tried to manually import the .bmp in QAS, and the logo was still not showing. We then re-transported the transports and re-activated the features in QAS, and the logo still doesn't show.
    Another difference we find is in the actuall view of the pay stub in PDF. It looks much smaller in QAS and the font is blue while it is black in development. I didnt' configure any blue colour in the style assigned to the smartform.
    I checked the configuration between QAS and DEV and it is identical in termns of smartform, features and logo.
    Any idea what else we could ceck? There is definitely a difference between the two environments. No ABAP development was implemented for this, everything is standard configuration.
    Thank you,
    Nicoleta

    PLease check the LOGO and its preview in SE78.

  • Migration from Smartforms to PDF

    We have to migrate some of our smartforms to PDF, which contain a lot of graphics/icons.
    As i know from the documentation it seems to be necessary to migrate all the BDS graphics (Transaction se78) to the mime repository with the report RSXFT_MIGRATE_BDS_GRAPHICS.
    Moreover it seems i am only able to use graphic nodes with the option graphic content instead of graphic reference, if i am using images from the mime repositiory (also read in the documentation of SAP). So i need the graphic as a xstring variable.
    But i wasn't able to find any documentation which shows me the right function/ the right method in ABAP to get access to the graphic in the mime repositiory.
    I found some threads, which mentioned the method get_bds_graphic_as_bmp (Class CL_SSF_XSF_UTILITIES), but in my opinion then i don't need to migrate the graphics with the Report RSXFT_MIGRATE_BDS_GRAPHICS or am i wrong?
    What about run-time and memory allocation?
    Thanks in advance for your help.

    Hi Francois
    I do not know transaction EFRM, but I know that to create a print form with SAP Interactive Forms (perhapos you are using a different forms tool?) you need to work in transaction SFP, where you manually migrate the form.
    A couple of comments on migrating from Smart Forms to Interactive Forms.
    How to do it is documented in the <a href="http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw2004s/helpdata/en/16/a369b1800e4bdda978ee0fe3b7bd2c/frameset.htm">SAP Help Portal</a>.
    There is a migration wizard that assists you in migrating. It comes with recommended settings for those elements of a Smart Forms that migrate well (ABAP program nodes, for example, are not supported in the Adobe-based solution). See the <a href="http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw2004s/helpdata/en/3b/bb186ddb4441a7875a11d46ea6580d/content.htm">Notes</a>.
    SAP-internal experience over the last three years has shown that in most cases migrating a Smart Form and then reworking the migrated form (which is usually necessary) takes more time and effort than analyzing the form carefully and then creating it from scratch in SFP. This is particularly the case when several business forms are in one Smart Form and output based on conditions. It is recommended to have one form template per business form.

    I want to display smartform as pdf in a custom contianer . I was able to find all the right code from sdn.
    but my problem is that when executed my sap gui is closed without any error.
    I am unable to understand what is going wrong.
      CALL METHOD G_HTML_CONTROL->SHOW_URL( URL = LV_URL
        IN_PLACE = 'X' ).  does not show the pdf.
    Can any one help me to find out if we need to do some setting for MIME type application/pdf. Because I tried to display a bar chart in the custom container of MIME type text/html , and this is working fine.
    Is any setting missing in our R/3 because of which the code is not getting executed.
    below code is the exact copy from a post in sdn:

    Hello Sandra,
    Thanks for your reply, but eventhen it fails to load the pdf. Is ADS required to be installed for this?
    Can I just pass the pdf_fsize imported from  CONVERT_OTF which is of type i.

  • Error in SmartForm to PDF while Saving with Preview option.

    Hi,
    I have created a report to convert Smartform to PDF.
    I want the user to Preview data, if user is interested, then they can save the file.
    When user clicks the Back button in SmartForm Print Preview, user can select the path of PDF file to save the data.
    My code works fine, if Preview is disabled.
    In the sub-routine createpdffile, I am getting error while creating PDF file.
    The program works fine, if I disable the preview option i.e. if I uncomment
    cparam-getotf = 'X'.
    How can I have the both options in my report?
    1)     Preview SmartForm.
    2)     Save the SmartForm as PDF.
    Regards,
    Vikas

    I think the excerpt and link below is the why, but the page talks about server code and not javascript.  I guessing that this is why blank pages work, but not wiki pages.  Can anyone verify this?
    The following are general rules for using server-side code on a site page.
    If the page is uncustomized, server-side code is supported on the page.
    If the page is customized, server-side code does not run, and the page does not render. This includes the code-behind for the page itself.

  • Display PDF in Browser Option

    I am able to open a PDF file from a particular protected Website. I can fill in the required info, but when I attempt to Save/File it back to the site, the following pops up: "For security reasons your return could not be saved. Please ensure that the 'Display PDF in Browser' option is selected under the Edit-Preferences-Internet Settings in Adobe Reader."
    Adobe Reader XI, Internet Explorer 10 & Windows 7 are loaded on my PC.
    I cannot trace 'Display PDF in Browser' under settings, but using Tools>Manage Add-ons>Toolbars and Extensions>Show>All Add-ons, I can see that 'Open PDFs in the Browser' is Enabled.
    I also used the Registry Editor: Adobe>Reader>exe to confirm the Name, Type & Data in the string value: (ab), REG_SZ, C:\Program Files\(x86)\Adobe\Reader11.0\Reader\AcroRd32.exe
    No help is forthcoming from the Website, despite me logging a call to their service centre
    Does the problem lie at my end, or the Website?

    Hi Ben,
    I manually added the registry setting but it made no difference.
    I uninstalled 10.1.4 and reinstalled 10.1.3 and with 10.1.3 I am able to view a PDF in IE when launched from the command line.
    I re-downloaded and reinstalled 10.1.4 and retried and now I can view a PDF in IE when launched from the command line.
    Strange.
    Regards
    Craig

  • FF 5 no longer opens pdf in browser window & only fix on offer, Dafizilla ViewSourceWith, won't instal and greys out Menu bar.

    ''locking this thread - discussion is here - https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/questions/857882''
    I thought I had the Foxit Reader Plug-In reinstalled since I installed FF5, but I've reinstalled it again anyway and reset it to open in Firefox under Tools Options. Once I was happy with the latest Foxit Reader I really didn't want to even try the dead-buried-and-decomposed Adobe Acrobat again. I've disabled that now as it wasn't opening pdfs in Firefox either when I had it selected under Tools Options.

    These are the steps I performed on my own system many months ago. I could not view PDF files in Firefox with both Adobe Reader and Foxit installed.
    #Close Firefox (File > Exit '''''OR''''' Firefox button > Exit)
    #If you have not already done so, uninstall Adobe Reader 9.4.5 using Windows Start > Settings > Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs, click on the item, click Remove. You may need to restart your system.
    #Open Foxit in your programs list Windows Start > Programs
    #*on the Foxit menu, click Tools > Preferences
    #*click File Associations and be sure "Display PDF in browser" is checked then click "Make Default PDF Viewer" then click OK
    #*close Foxit Reader (File > Exit)
    #Start Firefox
    #*Open the Applications panel (Tools > Options > Applications '''''OR''''' Firefox button > Options > Options > Applications)
    #*type '''pdf''' in the search box; you should see "Foxit Reader PDF document"
    #*in Action column, click the down arrow at the far right end
    #*choose "Use Foxit Reader plugin for Mozilla (in Firefox)'
    #**if the full name does not display, place the cursor over the item to see the full name in a tooltip box
    #Test on a pdf file from the internet
    #*If there is no toolbar at the top of the PDF display in the tab (just a blue strip), tap the F8 key to get the Basic toolbar, or right-click the blue strip at the top to display/not display other toolbars by clicking on them (checked=display; un-checked=do not display)
