How to configure Solaris 10 on a dell laptop to connect to internet

Hi,
I am student and have installed Solaris 10 on my Dell laptop using SUN's Virtual box. I also have Opensolaris on my laptop that is able to connect to internet using any available wireless because of its auto settings. Can some one please guide me with the steps or tutorial to configure Solaris 10 to connect to internet either by LAN or wireless(preferable)
Some information about my Laptop:

For a start I would give my interface an inet number:
ifconfig <interface> inet <ip_address>
ifconfig e1000g0 inet 192.168.100.198
...further than that I would need to study.

  • How to configure Solaris 10 IPMP for Oracle VDI 3.3.2

    Hi,
Does anyone have an indication on how to configure Solaris 10 IPMP in a manner that supports Oracle VDI?
We have setup two servers with 2 test addresses on physical and 1 logical for the hostname of the box, but when we configure VDI the VDI database does not come up on the 2nd box. We have also tried configuring IPMP without test addresses, but it doesn't make any difference - the DB still doesn't go into the up state after configuration on the 2nd server.
    Solaris 10 u9 with patches
Two physical NICs on management VLAN via 2 switches
Two physical NIcs on VDI VLAN via 2 switches
    VDI 3.3.2
All hostnames are in DNS and resolve for short name, FQDN and also reverse IP lookup
The is a proposal pdf on Oracle website that mentions IPMP, so someone has done it. Just could do with a hint on how it was done so that it works.
    Thanks
    Paul

OK, updating this with what was causing the issue.
Not an IPMP problem this was a DNS problem. The VDI servers have access to two DNS environments, so had a DNS search path that had the domain where the VMs where going to go and another for management of the box with two DNS servers listed in /etc/resolv.conf.
We configured VDI using the FQDN for the management DNS, however the vda-config script takes the hostname of the box adds the first DNS domain from /etc/resolv.conf search entry and configures using (it seams to ignore what you put into the vda-config). When the config script comes to configuring MySQL because the names didn't match (FQDN it created by adding hostname to the 1st entry in DNS search path & FQDN that you put into vda-config command), it decides that it is configuring a "Client MySQL" instance rather than a "Slave MySQL" instance, which means the VDA DB never comes up in the out of vda-center status.
    So the fix is to:
    1) configure IPMP without test addresses (so traffic comes out of the correct IP and can be reverse looked up in DNS by the other host)
    2) if you have multiple DNS search entries, configure VDI using the first entry in your search path as its FQDN

  • Solaris on x86 Dell Laptop - keyboard driver!

    Hello,
As some of you may have a Dell Laptop I am asking if anyone has
had any success installing Solaris 8 for Intel. If you have please
    drop me a line.
So far I have worked my way past the hangs during the install's
configuration of /dev. I had to remove all references to cardbus in
the "Edit Device" settings of the device configuration assistant.
But then I hit the second problem where the first keypress at the
language selection window sends repeating characters until the keyboard
buffer is full. In other words it goes nuts because the Solaris driver
does not support the Dell Latitude CPi laptop keyboard. I know it is
not a supported configuration but I have little option since Sun are
no longer interested in supporting laptops in Solaris 8.
I already know there is a USB keyboard workaround but I dont
fancy myself hauling around a seperate keyboard just so I can use
    Solaris 8.
More specificallly I am looking for driver settings to make the
existing keyboard driver work or an alternative keyboard driver to solve the
issue. Sun can you help out here?
Any suggestions appreciated, especially some input from Sun.

    Hi knightweb,
Did you checked the BigAdmin center to know if your box is compatible / known to work ?
The installation program says your drive is RO ? Are you installing from a CD ? If yes, be sure that the disk choosed to the installation is not the CD drive (I don't know Dell 6350 anyway)
Did you tried to broke the last partition if there's one with fdisk ?

  • Upgrading Graphics for Solaris 8 on Dell laptop

I installed solaris 8 for Intel on a Dell Laptop. I could only get the 16 color option working.
What drivers or patches can I use and where can I get them????

    Hi,
I don't know what video card you have, but I just downloaded this porting kit for solaris8 intel. It work perfectly on my desktop Dell 4100. I think it will also work for the dell laptop. The porting kit is NOT XFree86; it only make use of the xfree86 drivers for solaris.

  • No IP address intermittently on Dell laptop when connecting to EA6400

Ever since I have a new EA6400 wireless router, my Dell Latitude laptop doesn't always get an IP address when connecting to the router. It's only a problem with the Dell, other devices connect without trouble. The Dell laptop doesn't have problems with any other routers it connects to. Any ideas...?
When connecting, the wireless icon in the tray sometimes shows a yellow exclamation mark saying 'No internet access'. The wifi status shows 'Limited' in that case. The solution is most of the times to turn off wifi completely, then turning it on again. This apparently forces a reconnection including a new IP address from the EA6400. My setup is pretty out of the box, no changes made to DHCP settings or other network related things. I'm puzzled...
    Any suggestions greatly appreciated!

    Router Placement
Forum User - "Well I feel really dumb. After moving the router away from other electronic devices my speeds are back to normal. Just a heads up for anyone experiencing slow speeds, you might want to move it away from other electronics and see if that helps."
3-6' feet minimum safe distance between devices.
Placement on main level floor and central in the building and WELL ventilated is preferred. Not in basements or closets as building materials, or near by electronics devices could interfere or hinder good signal propagation.

  • How to enable a disabled iPod that won't connect to internet

trying to enable my disabled 5th generation iPod touch. I have tried connecting to iTunes on the computer, which I couldn't get it to do anything. I then tried using the "Find my iPhone" website and erased the iPod. However, I got a message that says "This iPod will be erased when it connects to the internet". How do I connect a disabled/locked iPod to the internet/wifi while it is waiting to be erased because it won't connect to internet/wifi?

    Disabled
Place the iOS device in Recovery Mode and then connect to your computer and restore via iTunes. The iPod will be erased.
iOS: Forgot passcode or device disabled
If recovery mode does not work try DFU mode.

    iTunes: Restoring iOS software
    To restore from backup see:
iOS: Back up and restore your iOS device with iCloud or iTunes
If you restore from iCloud backup the apps will be automatically downloaded. If you restore from iTunes backup the apps and music have to be in the iTunes library since synced media like apps and music are not included in the backup of the iOS device that iTunes makes.
You can redownload most iTunes purchases by:
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store
If problem what happens or does not happen and when in the instructions? When you successfully get the iPod in recovery mode and connect to computer iTunes should say it found an iPod in recovery mode.

  • How to configure Solaris that third-party software can use Netscape

    Hi,
I don't know if this is Solaris configuration issue.
I have Storage Foundation installed on Solaris 10 SPARC.
And I am using the VEA GUI application to manage storage. Then I intentionally made some activities that the Error window appears with the link.
This link point to the Veritas web page.
After clicking on this link the error appears:
"Error attempting to launch web browser.:
    netscape: not found"
Please tell me whether this issue is because it needs some changes in Solaris or maybe the Storage Foundation needs to be configured properly?
The internet connection works fine while executing the Netscape from CDE.
    Kind regards,
    Daniel

I don't think it has anything to do with the third-party software. When you click on a link or document, the OS tries to access it using the associated application. In your case, clicking on a hyperlink tries to load the default web browser which on your system is Netscape.
If say, you installed Firefox and configured it to be the default web browser then Solaris would launch it instead.
Try to manually launch Netscape and in the preferences, set it as the default web browser. See how you go with that.

  • How to Configure an Cisco 5505 for PPTP VPN connectivity

I currently have a Cisco ASA 5505(ASA Version 8.2(1), and ASDM gui version 6.2) and a Windows 2008 R2 server with one NIC card. Currently the router is connected to the interent sucessfully using the 'outside' interface(devices connected to the 'inside' interface have access to the internet and are assigned IP addresses via DHCP on the Windows 2008 Server which is also connected to the 'inside' interface) When connected with a client on the inside interface I can establish a VPN connection with the W2008 server, however when I try to connect through the internet I cannot. I have tried researching this on the internet, but have not had much luck. I know it has something to do with pptp port and allowing gre, but I am not familiar enough with configuring Cisco devices or the language they use, to configure this router. I feel as though I am missing something small but very critical. Any help or feedback you can provide regarding this issue is most appreicated, thank you.
*Edit: I have attached a network diagram of what I am trying to accomplish, and I have also attached a dump of the current running-config.

    Hi,
Below is the link to the admin guide for the RV042.  Chapter 9 covers the configuration of site to site VPN’s and begins on page 123.

  • How to configure the RFC destination of ERP-CRM connection when moving to Q

    Hi Experts,
I set up a ERP sales order and quotation in CRM but under configuration
Customer Relationship Management -->Transactions -->Settings for Sales Transactions -->Define Profile for ERP Sales Transactions
you can only configure one which is i already did in development now we are moving to Quality then next to Prod.
Do you mean we will change this everytime we move to different environment thanks in advanced
    Br,
    Etrafanob

    Hi Etrafanob,
Yes, in each system you will have to change the RFC destination for this as the destination set in your development system will normally be transported through to QA and production. To make the change you will need to contact your basis team and request the system client to be open for configuration changes in transaction SCC4.
    I hope this helps.
    Regards,
    David.

  • How to updare Airport software if I'm not connected to internet

I have a Catch-22 situation - my indigo clamshell laptop won't connect to my network because the Airport card software is still 1.0.3. I want to update it to the 2.0.4 version my other laptop has, which does connect. How do I do this easily? I tried using a CD to copy the download from one to the other but it didn't work. I guess I could hard wire the laptop to the router, but my base station iMac is running OSX, and the laptops are both on OS9.2. I've never used a Firewire connection either, but have the ports for this.
What is the best way to get the update onto the laptop?

Before I had a phone line at my house I used to spend 30 mins in a local Internet Café with a CD-RW downloading Apple (& other) updates. I think an hour plus a blank disk cost me about £5.
I don't really follow why using older software won't work - just suspend your Encryption on the WiFi network for the 10 mins it takes to download the Airport update. Given that you have one machine connected.. download the latest software for your OS and then use Firewire Target Mode to transfer the software.
Connect the two machines using a 6pin to 6pin fw cable.
Restart the machine with the new Airport software download on it.
Once you hear the chime hold the T key down to enter target mode.
The hard disk of the one machine will appear on the others desktop.
Drag and drop the Airport software accross.
Then install on the indigo machine.
Drag the other machine's hard disk to the trash on the Indigo's desktop.
Switch off the other computer using the power button.
