Smartview: HSSetValue with VLookup

Hi,
I have a sheet with some HSSetValue formulas. The link for the values is a cell with VLookup formulas.
If I want to submit the data, the following error occures: #Error run forumlas interrrupted
If I link to a cell with the same values (but inserted manually), then it works fine!
Any ideas?

This is coz the server get confused with the existing member names that are in the outline/dimensions.
And also it could be that the format of the cells it self.
If you have this workbook working and just updating, I recommend you manually update the sheet rather than copy+paste.

SmartView issue with Excel protected sheets

Hi,
I'm facing an issue working with SmartView and Excel protected sheet.
When a try to refresh data SmartView get error "One or more sheet(s) in the workbook are protected. Unprotect the sheets and try the operation again".
Sheet layout is composed as:
- account in row
- period, scenario and version in column
- other dimension in point of view.
The goal of sheet protection is restrict on Excel side the set of cell available for user input and avoid the user add more account in row.
Is there a workaround to use SmartView work with protected sheet or the only way is unprotect it?
Any suggestion is really appreciated.
The system configuration is:
WindowsXP SP3
Excel 2007
SmartView 11.1.2.1.00

No, sorry Smart View has no access to write to the cell of a protected sheet. If you are skilled in VBA you could write a routine that unprotects your sheet does the SV operation and then re-protects. This may require you to hard code your protection password in code so I am not sure if this will work for you. Excel sheet protection lock the user and programs from updates so there is not much that can be done.

Smartview Issue with MS Office 2010 on windows 7

Hi,
I have installed Hyperion Smartview 11.1.1.1 on windows 7(64 bit AMD Processor), After the installation i tried to go with Datasource manager but nothing it shows there in Right side panel("smartview data source manager").
Each option is in Disable mode(like Adhoc Analysis- Zoom In, Zoom out, Keep Only, Remove Only, Forms)
Also i am unable to find the EAS console( but instalation wizard shows it has been installed)
Version we are using -Hyperion Smartview 11.1.1.1
Ms Office- 2010(32 bit)
Platform- Windows 7 64bit( AMD Processor)

You should always use official documentation for support details but I am pretty sure Windows 7 support was not available for the EAS client until 11.1.1.3.

Hyperion planning data form in smartview: problem with summary time period

We are using Planning ver. 11.1.2.2.300.20 and smartview 11.1.2.2.300 (build 070)
We use common Data Form:
In columns: Periods (Descendants including YearTotal - with no checkbox on start expanded)
In Rows :accounts
In some of our users computers,
When they open Data Form in Excel (with Smart View) - its appears very strange:
Summary Accounts are displayed as level 0 account in the summary Period columns (i.e. not in grey) and permit entering data.
In addition when Entering data in summary time period (i.e. Year or Quarter),
strangely, the data doesn't spread to the descendants months (level 0) .
This phenomenon occurs just in few of the computers.
Please help, how can we overcome this problem?

All computers have the same version of planning and smartview.
The computers where the Periods spreading and aggregation properties in Data form are not working,
do work wonderfully when opening the Data forms in the web.
I've tried everything, (remove suppressing, validations etc.):
In all kind of data forms the spreading and aggregation properties on summary time periods are not working in smartview -
and summary accounts on rows are not displayed in grey and permit entering data.
We remove and reinstall MS-Office (2007) from the problematic computers, but it didn't help.
Do you know if there is any kind of settings or softwares that might cause this phenomenon
i.e. interrupts the smartview translation of the web Data Forms.

Smartview - HypExecuteQuery with suppress rows 'No Data/Missing'

Hello,
I'm executing a MDX query by executing the command 'HypExecuteQuery' and I set the options suppress rows 'No Data/Missing'.
But everytime, the query is working successully but without suppressing missing data.
Does someone know it the suppress missing rows is compatible with the hypExecuteQuery or 'Execute MDX' ?

Add rows with vLookup

I have a spreedsheet which is used to give estimates. One table with colums of items and their prices. The second table is to lookup those prices and add them to the estimate.
I have used vLookup which does the job. The problem is that you do not know how many items (rows) an estimate might have.
At the present, when I press enter in the last column, a new row is created but the vLookup formular is not coppied to that new row (cell).
Can this be done?

Or if you turn off 'Use header names as labels' in Preferences:

Glitches seem to creep in to legacy documents created in Numbers 2.3 and opened in Numbers 3.0. Sometimes what works to clear these up is to clear a cell by selecting it and hitting 'delete' then reentering the formula or value.

We've got a macro that runs a couple of business rules. When we run this macro, the first BR is executed without any troubles but when it gets to the execution of the second business rule we get the following error:
-41 SS_NOSUPPORT_PROVIDER
We only get this error in the developing environment and not in production environment however they both use the exact same versions and same configurations. We only get this error in production environment when we run the macro with certain pc's. What's really awkward is that this exact same macro used to work properly in both environments.

Smartview Problem with Protected Sheets

Hello,
We use Hyperion Smart View in our company and discovered a problem while using protected excel sheets while the addin is active. Excel asks for the password but doesnt accept it even if it is the right password. If we disable the addin the problem disappears. Has somebody else such a problem ?

This issue was logged under Bug 6591401 - When Smart View is active and the worksheet is protected, the following error message is encountered ''Drawing Objects in one or more sheet(s) in the workbook are protected. Please unprotect them and try to save again.'' However, Bug 6591401 has been closed as not a defect.
The following is an explanation of how Smart View handles protected cells and a workaround for this issue:
Smart View needs some place to store it's own metadata within the Excel spreadsheet and it has been using a certain non-obtrusive object for the same. In versions 9.2 and prior, Smart View attempted to unprotect the Excel worksheets to be able to write it's metadata. That led to unexpected behavior when there were passwords used with the protection. This was fixed in 9.3.1.1.2 to make Smart View elegantly honor the spreadsheet protection and not touch objects which are specified as out of bounds by the user. However, when a spreadsheet is protected, this object can become inaccessible to Smart View, after which even a simple save operation cannot go through. In that sense, the current behavior is indeed the correct behavior, where the user placed restriction is honored correctly. The next question will be how can customers then work with protected sheets.
While protecting a worksheet, the following dialog appears which is where the user will have to establish what kind of operations will be allowed on this worksheet. By default the top two options are the only ones that come pre-selected. Just allowing these two options is not sufficient for Smart View to be able to work with the worksheet.
What also needs to be enabled is the option for "Edit Objects" which appears towards the end of the list. It is this option that helps Smart View to be able to persist it's own metadata within the worksheet in a non-obtrusive fashion. The guidance to all Smart View users should be to start enabling this option too, if they choose to apply worksheet protection.

SmartView working with Essbase: Preserve Formulas

Hi everybody, has anybody achieved to preserve formulas in the same worksheet as one connected to Essbase using Smart View?
The documentation says that "The “Preserve Formula on POV Change” option only applies to data forms in Hyperion Enterprise, Planning, and Financial Management".
I have set options to "Preserve Formula on POV changes" but Im having two main problems:
- Formulas within the same work sheet as retrieved data and its data disappear when Refreshing the cube
- Formulas that reference retrieved data and that are in other worksheets get the cell reference converted to #REF when Refreshing the cube.
I guess that both problems are because this incompatibility between Smart View and Essbase (It should work with Planning and HFM)

But it's a little bit strange because formula and associated data are only removed when i close, save the excel file, open it agan and do a refresh.
Then, once the formula and its data has disappear, if I create the formulas again and i do a refresh, formulas are still there, then if save the file, close it, open, refresh... again disappear

Start SmartVIew Addin with VBA

Hi,
I need to activate the Addin of SmartView via VBA code from an Excel Worksheet.
So far I created a worksheet and added the module SmartViewVBA to the VBA-Project.
I wrote a program to start the addin:

This added the HSTbar.xla to my VBA-projects. I also got the tool bar activated by this.
In the extras / addins I see that the SmartView Addin is activated. Nevertheless all SmartView Buttons do not react when I click on them and I am missing the SmartView menu bar.
Has anybody an idea or hint, what needs to be done in addition?

Smart View is a com add-in so you cannot unload it this way you would need to use code to change the 'connect' state of the com add-in:

This will vary based on your smart view version and OS. In fact in windows 7 you would need to be running Excel as an admin and this in unlikely. Is there some reason you are needing to unload SV in VBA?

Need help with VLOOKUP

I'm trying to put together a spreadsheet that has a master table with questions and categories. I then have separate tables for each of the categories. What I would like to do is do a lookup on the master table, and then populate each of the category tables with the questions of that category.
So for example
Master table
Question (column A) - Category (Column B)
Question1 Math
Question2 Math
Question3 Science
Question4 Math
Question5 English
Question6 Science
Question7 English
Question8 Science
Then the Math table will only contain
Question1
Question2
Question4
Science
Question3
Question6
Question8

You got it. For those that don't see how it works:
You want to see how many times the word in column B shows up from the row your on, up to the top of that column.
So you want to always count from cell B1 to the row your on. That will tell you what number item it is.
So, if we had =COUNTIF($B$1:B2,B2) in cell A2 will count from B1 to B2 to see how many times the text in B2 shows up (only if the whole ell matches). We added a B2 & to the beginning to append that can't to the end of the word we just counted. (Math2 if it's the second time math showed up.)
The dollar signs are there to ensure that the first reference to B1 never changes, and the second part with no dollar signs will change as you fill it down. So on row 100 cell A1 formula will read: =B100 & Countif($B$1:B100)
This is called absolute referencing if your looking for more info on the web.

Planning and SmartView query

If we import forms from Planning application on SmartView, can we do ad-hoc analyses on it?
I imported Planning formas an alternative to F.Reporting failure but am unable to do member selections on the imported form, etc. Is there a work around for this?
ALSO,
When I build SmartView reports, it gives me No Data whereas data does exist as it shows up on the forms. Where is the problem here? Is there a data mismatch somewhere? There is data on the forms in Planning but it shows no data on the report. I did refresh it but it still shows No Data (#Missing).
How do I get the data to show up on SmartView connected with Planning?

Migration from 9.3 to 11.1.2 Smartview error

I have this kind of message when i open an excel smartview created with version 9 and I try to connect to the same application in version 11
"The signd-on token i no longer valid
Do you want to connect with username/password"
If I click on YES the connection proposed (and it is not possible to modify it) is the one to the version 9.
Is there a way to "convert" the file?

Is the SmartView file utilizing hsGetValue functions? If the application name is specified in the formula it will attempt to open up that connection, else it will default to your default connect, which you also may want to verify is the new application.

Merging queries with not exact matching data

Hi fellow Webi and OLAP bods
Does anyone know how I can merge data from 2 different queries where the data is not an exact match?
I have one query where the key is
001
002
003
004
etc
and another where the key is
AAA001
AAA002
AAA003
BBB004
etc
basically they are the same thing but the second has this prefix in the data that I am not interested in.
If it were on oracle or some other relationanl data source I could clearly create a new object in the universe that used substr(mykey,4,3) and they'd match fine but both queries are on SAP BW datasources and I wanted to know if I can do this anyway without having to wait for our BW team to create me a new object in BW. I'm guessing my only options are with some neat MDX in the universe (I'm on xi 3.1) or with some clever stuff in the report......
Maybe I'll just do it in excel with vlookup......(again!)

Since I don't have the same set of data that is why I cannot replicate on my system so don't take my answer as final answer.
If both fields have the same data type then you can do and if you dont want to see the prefix then you can use formula and hide it.

Essbase connection w.r.t Smartview and Excel add-in

donno if this is the right place for this thread, I thought planning experts are experienced with both smartview and excel add-ins
what is the protocol used behind the scene in both ways (HTTP, RMI, TCO/IP) and which one takes less resources and works faster
to serve better interms of performance while connected to essbase? that I know we add URL for conneceting to essbase thru aps for a
smartview essbase connection and we directly connect to essbase in essbase excel add-in connection.
any help is much appreciated!

I think Essbase Excel add-in connects through TCP/IP whereas Smartview connects via web services (http).
Excel add-in should be faster as it speaks directly with Essbase as opposed to Smartview which connects Essbase through another service (APS). But Smartview comes with its own advantages (i.e. better integration, smoother user experience etc.)
