Smooth transitions betwen audio

im ptreety new to the FCP world and am having trouble getting a smooth transition between two bits of audio (first bit is in sync with person on camera - second bit is voice over with other video) they are supposed to sound as though they were recorded at the same time (ie the guy you see talking at first is just continuing to talk over the other picture) but they weren't... the second section of audio was recorded at a different time so the level is a little different and the background hiss is different - and that's the biggest problem... when you hear that sound of nothing change its really easy to spot the cut in the audio... how can i smooth out this cut without having 'atmos' recorded at the locations when they were shooting?
can i dissolve the two bits of audio or something?
help! this is driving me crazy!

Get a third track of room tone sound put it under both clips to start. Yes, you can do audio dissolves. Slect the edit point on the clips and hit Command OptionT to add a dissolve. Also, you probably want to look into the audio filters for some EQ, etc. This is the basic way to get started. You might not be able to "cure" the problem, but you should be able to get it to sound a lot better.

  • Transition of Audio Between Clips

I made an iMovie from several video clips and used the circle opening transition between the clips.
Although the video looks good, the audio part of the transition did not work out well. [The audio is the audio that is imbedded into each clip.] The audio for each clip in the iMovie begins (abruptly) after the transition. There is no smooth transition of audio from one clip to the next.
Is there a way to have the audio of the first clip smoothly change into the audio of the second clip during the period of the video transition?
Is there a way to have the audio of the second clip begin at the start of the transition rather than at the end of the transition?
    Thank you for your help.
Mac Mini Intel   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

    Hi
You should extract the audio from the clip (cmd+j i think). the audio will be placed on a new track. Make sure you have clip volume enabled and you will see a line through the clip. Palce nodes and drag them up or down - this represents volume and you can cross-fade betwteen audio clips for a smoother transition.
You can also grab these audio clips and place them where you want.
    Hope this helps

  • Need smoother transitions between .swf's

I have a website I am doing that has a flash intro with
music. I then have the site itself which is also designed in flash.
These 2 swf files sit on 2 different .html pages with an action
that tells one frame to go to the next "page".
My client whats it to be a smoother transition, almost like
its going within the same .swf fles. I tried to save the flash .fla
and just importat and try to figure it out how to import the
intro.swf file into my main flash site and to just add it at the
beginning. Bu this didn't work either...

    Try using a fade-in or a fade-out
    located in transitions
    between the pics
play with the timing of the fade
    this helps between all pics
but adds alot of time to the movie.

  • Handling Smooth Transitions in SAP Lumira Chart Extensions

I assume render is the function that does all the drawing logic for a specific Chart Type in VIZ Packer Utility. How do we handle any updates to the Data and do a smooth transition from the initialized State of the Chart to a final State as defined by Data.
Currently I see render function as to Initialize SVG and implement some code that would display the Chart with initial Data.
-- When the Data gets updated - I don't want to call render function which initializes my SVG again
Is there a different function that makes use of the SVG that was initialized in render function and then apply updates to it that would create a smooth transition from Initial to Final State.

    Hi,
I believe your question has been answered in your duplicate post here: http://scn.sap.com/community/lumira/blog/2014/06/28/cool-chart-extensions-demonstrated-at-lumira-codejam-vancouver#comment-502992
In summary, You need to use VizPacker to package the extensions, then deploy those extensions to C:\Program Files\SAP Lumira\Desktop\extensions\ . this process is covered in detail in the supporting documentation SAP Lumira SDK (Chart extensions). See here: http://help.sap.com/lumira#section4

  • Transitions cause audio/ video sync problem

Lets see if I can explain this one. Its certainly an odd problem.
I have an iMovie project, with around a couple hundred photos in it, and some short video clips. Im putting transitions in between everything.
At some point I noticed that, sometimes, I'll add a transition after a video clip, and then the last few seconds still have my audio from that clip but the video changes to a photo 2 photos later in the time line. Then it changes to the next photo after the clip.
Im using the latest iMovie HD, and Quicktime Pro 7.5.5, and Mac OS X 10.5.4.

    Hi
    I do like this:
    • Select the video-clip
    • goto Advance menu - select extract audio
    • now apply transition
    • adjust audio clip

  • Preset imports and "smooth" transitions

    Good Morning!
I have 2 things that i needed help on:
    1) I always struggle with each update of Premier. I always lose my presets (effects) that are both in "My presets" and My favorites. I don't know why these don't transport with the update, but they are gone again. I did take the time to export my old presets in 8.0, but now in 9.0 I don't see where it gives me the option tyo import anymore? Can someone help?
    2) Once I either get my back my presets or create new ones, I struggle wit that perfect transition. Anotherwords, I always seem to drag a prest to my picture and then when it plays, the frame is frozen for a split second, then effect executes, then effect stops. I always have to go in and edit the effect and drag the "button" for rotation or scale to either end of the frame to get my smoothness? So ..
      - Is there a way to create a preset and have it know I want the scale or rotation to start at the very beginning and end at the very end?
      - And is ther a "best way" to create the movie. Like do I add transitions first and then drag presets, or drag presets and then add transition. It seems if I do either or, my prest gets truncated in the image.
    Thanks for any help!!

For the "smooth Transitions," one must set the In & Out Points of the Clips, so that there are adequate Handles, to allow for the Transitions. If one does not have adequate Handles, one of two things will happen, depending on the structure of the Clip:
If there are no more Frames, then the last one will be repeated, as a Freeze Frame.
If there are Frames, but they are in the next "scene," then material that was believed to be removed, will appear in the Transitions.
This ARTICLE will explain Handles in detail. The secret is to move the In and/or Out Point, to allow for adequate Handles.
    Good luck,

  • BEGINNER: Best Framerate for smooth transitions

My animation is jagged in movement.
What would be the best framerate for a smoother transition?
Right now I'm using the default 12FPS
Should I make it higher or lower and if so, by how much?
    This is the animation:
    http://www.tarilynquinn.com/site/SE_INDEX.html
    Help would be much appreciated.

Higher framerates do make for smoother animations -- up to a point. Depending upon how many things you have going on and the computer in use a really high frame rate can cause some machines to choke and then it will look worse than a lower frame rate.
I recommend getting a rate that you work at and that you tailor all your designs to meet work at that rate. That way if you need to combine assets later they will be compatible. And you will have a feeling for the rate.
At work we are now doing everything at 24 and at home I use a 30. I think both of those are pretty reasonable and that most machines these days will be able to handle those rates.
Of course there are always times when for a very specific reason I might use a different rate, but I only do that knowingly and not just because, "eh, seems like a good idea."

  • BUG: Speed Change + Audio Transition = No Audio-Video Sync

BUG: Speed Change + Audio Transition = No Audio-Video Sync
If you change the speed of clips (125%) and make an audio transition between them (power), the audio runs out of sync. The longer the transition, the more out of sync.

  • How do I do smooth transitions between clips?

After trimming clips, what type of effects do I need to use for smoother transitions? I tried several types of video transitions, for example Crossover Dissolve between the clips. But I want to show as if I never did any cuts or clippings even though I have done it. Did I make this clear?

You may want to ask yourself, "Why do I want to use a transition?"
As you think about this question watch any network TV program and look for the transitions.  You will generally find very few transitions in a professional video. Those you do find will generally be dips to black rather than cross-dissolves.  You will generally find cross-disolves being used only where the editor wanted to give a sense of time changing.
This s a situation in which less is more.  I believe that a 1 sec cross-dissolve draws more attention to itself than would a 0 second cut.

  • When I have two audio clips next to eachother, how do i 'dissolve' them so its a smooth transition from one to the next?

I have a few clips besides eachother.. levels are up and down, but i want to do an 'audio dissolve' per se, or fade from one audio clip into the other.. to make it smooth..  how do i do this? thanks

One might think that you could simply drop a transition effect on to two connected audio clips to fade from one to the next. In fact, that's what the menu seems to imply:
But you can not. No transition effects can be attached to Connected Clips. The menu lies!
There are however several ways to do accomplish the transition.
You can overlap them and drag the fade gadgets like this:
Another way is to transform the audio clips to a secondary Storyline (command-g). This will allow you to use transitions.

  • Smooth transition.

I have problem to make smooth jump. I created 30 sec clip animated menu, than it jumps to menu 2 not smoothly. Even if I use the dissolve transition its even worse. It goes to the first frame stops and than transitions into next menu. I tried to make a track and first play and than go to a still menu... the same thing. I also noticed that a still picture that was captured as the last frame of the animation is smaller horizontally.
    Any help will be appreciated.

On the sound issue, there will be a break if using two menus
On the menu issue (sounds like this will work if I understand what you are tryng to to do) and approach that may be what you need is to have the menu with video extended woth a loop point at 30 seconds where buttons will be active, and make fades and transitions as part of the menu background (video)
    An example is here
    http://dvdstepbystep.com/motion.php
And another example (which shows how to use DVD SP templates if you want as part of it) with Final Cut here
    http://dvdstepbystep.com/useelements.php
And both of those will play audio straight through

  • Is there a way to create a smooth transition while using a cutaway?

I'm creating a music video for my band and I have a great scene that I've 'dropped in' the middle of a clip with the audio muted. The problem is, because of the movement in the clip it looks like a very sloppy edit and could really benefit from a cross dissolve transition. Unfortunately every attempt to drag, drop, assign a tranisition over a cutaway ends in failure. Is this possible. And no I'd perfer NOT to split the clip at edit points, drop the new clip in and manually try to sync the audio. Honestly iMovie is extremely imperfect at that.
    Any answer is appreciated.
    Message was edited by: wheresgrant1

I don't believe it is possible to apply transitions to a cutaway directly.
hmmm I see what a pain this is. You are right. There might be a round about way.
You might try to improve your cutaway clip first in a project all by itself. Then add it to your full vid.
    another roundabout way:
There is no need to resync the audio. Right click on the original track. Select detach audio. Choose the cutaway clip and drag it onto the original one. Make it so the ends are where you want them.
Now zoom in all the way and select the frame where the clip starts (use the left and right arrows to help). Split the original clip at this point. Do the same for the end. Now the selection you remove will be the same length as your cutaway and audio will stay in sync. Then copy the cutaway, delete both the original split section and cutaway, and paste the "cutaway" into the space.
a pain, but seems to work?

  • Help with Flash smooth transitions

Can someone please tell me how I can make a Flash movie like
    this one
    here
where it transitions smoothly from one image to another.
I have been using Flash for a while at a basic level, but my
attempts at such movies always seem to be jerky. When I create them
I use a simple motion tween using fade in and out with Alpha
between the images as that's what I have read in tutorials to
create these. I have also tried increasing the frame rate as I read
that could help, but it still doesn't look right. I have put a copy
    of my latest attempt
    here and you can see
it's juddery between transactions, and I don't even really want the
fade effect, I just want it to transition smoothly between images
as in the Broadmoor example above.
Do I have to use Actionscript to make a more professional
movie like the one linked to? If so, I have never used Actionscript
before so would appreciate if someone can point me to a tutorial
    etc.
Thanks a lot in advance for any help or suggestions.

Are you fading the second image in as the first image is
fading out? If so try layering all of the images in the order you
want and fade just the top image out so the one underneath appears.
If you want to have it loop just have the very first image appear
again as the last image and then use actiomscript to jump back to a
frame where the same image is fully loaded at the beginning... I
hope this makes sense. If not please let me know and I can try to
    explain a little better.

  • Button Link Transitions with Audio?

Ive got a question on what can be used as a Button Transition. I have a 10 sec. AV in PP2, that I want to use. In general, no problems. Ive Exported the Video to DV-AVI (silent), and it works beautifully. I only have to do a blend from the Menu for the head and then a still from the Timeline at the tail. No biggie. What I am having problems with is getting an SFX Audio file into the PP2 Sequence for this Transition. So far, I am having problems. I tried to make a Timeline for this AVI with an AC3 Audio, but Encore2 would not allow a link to it, via the Pickwhip. I tried to Import several variations of muxed files, but kept getting errors with the number of channels on Import. Then, I did a muxed MPEG file, and got my first big "Crash" of Encore2. When I linked to the M2v, I got something about Abbie Normal Condition. Wasnt he the founder of the Yippies back in the 60s, along with poet, Allen Ginsberg? The error (really An Abnormal Condition... Please try to Save... ) came up and I could not even exit from Encore2. Had to finally use TaskManager to kill the Process. This was a first for me after all of these years. Lesson - do not use the M2v as a Button Transition!
Now, Im certain that there are possibilities that I have not tried, but before I beat what could be a dead horse, I wanted to find out one thing: can I even have Audio in a Button Transition?
I have total control over my Asset, so I can engage in any workaround necessary. If anyone has any info (Help/Manual do not go deeply into specifics on Button Transitions, and even Jeffs Book, Focal Easy Guide... doesnt mention them, as I can find.), Id greatly appreciate it. Same for any ideas on using Audio for these. In my case, its a bit of an electronic whoosh with a long gong tone, and moves left to right and rear to front to rear (in the 5.1 version). I do not need to do 5.1, as stereo, panned left to right would work fine too.
Appreciate the direction, thoughts and ideas,
    Hunt

    Jbowden,
Thanks for the simple little test. I just linked my existing SFX AC3 to the Main Menu's Audio and it worked fine. The pan/fade of the 5.1 was intact and worked in Preview.
I Exported the Button Transition test as a DV-AVI/PCM WAV from PP2, and Imported as a Timeline into Encore2. Tested and it played fine, but there was just the left-right pan, as expected. Linked my Button #1 to the AVI, as it would not link to the Timeline (as before), and went to Preview - "An Abnormal Condition... Save... " happened again. It is obviously not just the M2v, but the AVI, as well.
Back to square one in my tests. I've been working with a preliminary, test Project in Encore. It was used to create a DVD set for client review of most other aspects of the Project. It contained 4 Dynamic Links to AE, which were rendered out, plus 2 Menus a short lead-in AVI and some other Assets. Without any Button Transitions, it previewed and burned perfectly.
What I am going to do now is create a fresh Encore2 Project. Initially, it will only have the Play First AVI, the two Menus (Main & Scene Selection) and then I'll work with just the Button Transitions - all other Assets will not be included. I want to eliminate any other possible problem from the mix.
One thing that occurred to me was that this Project was a very full DVD. Though the Transcode is Automatic, I wonder if I am now adding too much to an already Transcoded Project. Rather than clear all Caches, and Revert to the unTranscoded state in this Project, I'll build, instead, from scratch. If that works, I'll just do the Button Transitions for the Scene Select Menu (4 Buttons/Links) and test again. If it still goes well, I'll add in the Rendered AE files and probably not use DL this time. Then, I'll Transcode and test to see if it all holds up. This method will not tell us exactly where the problem lies, if it works at all, but then when I have time, I can go back and clean Caches and Revert the Assets for a final test.
To date, the motion-only Button Transitions worked fine. It was only when I have tried (several different schemes) to add Audio, that I have encountered the problem.
Should have the preliminary test this AM, as the Project is very simple and starting over is not a big deal.
One side observation that I have made is that after I had to use TaskManager to end the Encore2 Process the other day, it now takes Encore2 a few minutes to even get the Splash Screen up. This is new behavior. I also cannot shift focus to/from Encore2 (with PP2 open), by clicking on the icon in the Taskbar. Even Rt-clicking and choosing Restore does not Maximize it. Only by going to TaskManager and clicking on the Application does it Maximize. As this was my first Encore2 "Crash," I am not sure what might be happening there. If I can get this Project done, I'll probably do a Repair Installation of Encore2, to see if the new behavior subsides.
Thanks for the input. Will be back with followups.

  • Smooth transitions between menus without using DVDSPs built-in transitions?

My project has two menus: a main menu and a chapter menu. When going from one menu to the other I would like to have the current menu fade out and the new menu fade in. When going from the end of the track or when using the remote menu button after getting to the track from the main menu I would like to have the main menu fade in (and the background for the chapter menu not appear). When using the remote menu button after getting to the track from the chapter menu I would like to have the chapter menu fade in (and the background for the main menu not appear).
I am able to accomplish what I described above by using DVDSPs built-in transitions. However, I have been advised by Trai Forrester that DVDSPs built-in transitions can cause problems: http://www.dvdverification.com/public/155.cfm I have therefore modified my project to not use DVDSPs built-in transitions, but in order to have my project behave as I have described above I found it necessary to use two versions of the main menu and two versions of the chapter menu. One version of the main menu has a video file that fades in the background of the main menu, while the second version of the main menu has a video file that fades out the background of the chapter menu and then fades in the background of the main menu. (Similarly one version of the chapter menu has a video file that fades in the background of the chapter menu, while the second version of the chapter menu has a video file that fades out the background of the main menu and then fades in the background of the chapter menu.)
My project behaves as desired using the two pairs of menu and does not use DVDSPs built-in transitions, so that pleases me. However, the almost-identical copies of the menus annoys me greatly. For an explanation of the programming principles that lead to my annoyance, see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Code_duplication and http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Don%27trepeatyourself for elaboration.
Is there a way to have just two menus instead of two pairs of menus and achieve what I described above without using DVDSPs built-in transitions?
Looking forward to being surprised by a clever solution,
    John Link

Since you have no audio or motion then try the jump to loop point script. Either way would be fine.
I played around with that a little bit and it seems that to get all the fade-outs I'd like to have would require several scripts and keeping track of SPRM 7. I think that I am going to abandon all of the fade-outs but keep the fade-ins. I can do that with a single main menu and a single chapter menu and not use the built-in transitions or any scripts at all. The behavior looks good and I think the disc will be very safe.
I agree, duplicating code is not good practice but remember your not writing code here - DVDSP is doing all this work under the hood for you.
I may not be writing code but I am programming the DVD and the principle of non-duplication is violated by almost-identical menus.
If you'd like check out a tool like My DVDEdit or AfterEdit
    http://www.mydvdedit.com/
    http://dvdafteredit.com/
It allows you to see the "real" DVD Structure which tools like DVDSP or Encore hide to make things simple. You can even go through the abstraction layer line by line to see how that SPRM 7 is used (wish I knew why that Sony Player doesn't work for your project).
Be sure to take a look at my report on the RDR-GX355: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1896575&tstart=0 That player also operates incorrectly on Concert for George: http://www.amazon.com/Concert-George-Andy-Fairweather-Low/dp/B0000CEB4V/ref=pdbbs_sr1?ie=UTF8&s=music&qid=1233954620&sr=8-1
Its not rocket science (especially for a programming like yourself) but remember authoring a disc in DVDSP vs a spec tool like Scenarist isn't even in the same ballpark - not even the same sport Last time I heard Scenarist is down to $6000 - it was $20K a couple years ago.
That's a deal breaker! I'll be working with DVDSP in the foreseeable future.
    Also go here:
    http://www.dvd-replica.com/DVD/index.php
it explains the spec in detail
    Thanks. I'll take a look.
