SMS... iPhone spontaneously adding 1 to phone numbers, resulting in error

I have all of my contact phone numbers stored as 10 digit numbers.
Recently, when texting to some of these contacts, the iPhone has started adding the extra digit "1" before the phone numbers, resulting in error messages, and undelivered text messages.
What gives? Has anyone else had this problem?

you can do this with apple script.
Paste the following into Script Editor and run it.
<pre style="

padding: 5px;
border: 1px solid #000000;

color: #000000;
background-color: #ADD8E6;
overflow: auto;"

tell application "Address Book"
set NP to number of people
repeat with i from 1 to NP
set pers to person i
repeat with cphone in phones of pers
if value of cphone is not equal to "" then
set cur_phone to value of cphone
set value of cphone to "1" & cur_phone
end if
end repeat
end repeat

  • HT1386 my iphone doesn't import phone numbers correctly

    my iphone doesn't import phone numbers correctly from my address book.  some are imported with the area code separated from the number, as it is in the address book (by a dash or parentheses).  these the phone will dial correctly.  others are imported with all the numbers bunched together, without separations between the number and area code, even though in the address book they are separated.  these the phone won't dial correctly, and I get a message from verizon saying it won't connect with the number as dialed.  how can I get the phone to import the numbers as they appear in the address book?

    Hi, bjholladay.
    I would recommend the steps in the article below.  See the section labeled Verify that the Apple Mobile Device USB Driver is installed > For Windows XP or Vista, Windows 7, and Windows 8 > Update the Apple Mobile Device Driver.

    Correct. When you did that, you voided all warranty/support, & forfeited the right to an out of warranty replacement.
    There was nothing wrong with the screen I bought,
    And, exactly, how do you know that? Since Apple DOES NOT sell iPhone parts, there is no official source for genuine parts. Thus, many on the market are counterfeit & produce nothing but problems.
    Good luck.

  • Will iPhone 4s support 2 phone numbers?

    I am self employed and find myself needing 2 phone numbers, one personal and one for business. I also don't want 2 phones if I don't have to. does anyone know if it will support 2 numbers??

    That's a good question considering it is both CDMA and GSM. IF it can, which I doubt due to software limitations (iOS), you would need one line to be on a CDMA carrier and the other to be on a GSM carrier since the iPhone 4S only has one SIM slot.
    Alternatively, you could use something like Skype with an incomming number or the MagicJack app with an incoming number. If you used both these software solutions, you could technically be recieving three numbers on your iPhone.

  • How can I make iMessage work on 2 iPhones with 2 different phone numbers using the same Apple ID?

    My work requires me to split time between two countries (Ph and Bn). I had an iPhone 4 with a Ph number and a Nokia for the Bn number. iMessage was running on the iPhone 4 with the Ph number and my apple ID. I recently replaced the Nokia with an iPhone 5 which I set up using the iCloud back up of my iPhone 4. I cant seem to set up iMessage (and Facetime) the way I want it to work on the iPhone 5. Im not sure if iOS 6 would allow me to do this so I'm throwing this out to the forums to check if its possible.
    iPhone 4 w/ iOS 6
    - uses Ph sim card
    - Ph number set in Phone>My Number
    - iMessage>Send & Receive has the following data
    Ph Number - greyed outand checked
    Apple User ID - checked
    iPhone 5 w/ iOS 6
    - uses Bn sim card
    - Bn number set in Phone>My Number
    - iMessage>Send & Receive has the following data
    Ph number greyed out and not checked
    Same Ph number checked
    Apple User ID checked
    Ive tried turning on/off my iPhone 5 and logging on and off iMessage but I cant seem to get it to update the iMessage phone number to the Bn number. Any idea how I can do this?

    I believe because you migrated from a Nokia to an iPhone you need to register the Bn phone number with your Apple ID so it can be used for iMessage. The Pn number seems to be the only one registered
    Go here > https://appleid.apple.com/cgi-bin/WebObjects/MyAppleId.woa/
    Manage your Apple ID and see if that does the trick
    Hope that helps

  • I purchases additional storage last night when advised by iCloud that I had little storage left on iCloud. Discovered that an unknown iPhone was added to my account resulting in lack of storage. How can I cancel this. And get refund?

    I purchased addional storage for iCloud after being advised that I was running out of storage. Later I discovered a iPhone which I do not own was added to my account . How I don't know. Anyway I want to cancel and get refund. How can I do this. Try various apple contact methods..can't get to talk or email anyone.

    I have the same problem. For about 1 month ago I extended my iCloud storage account (+20 GB) in order to maintain my backups for iPHONE and iPAD as my account would expire 14/10. In spite of this, I got an email 15/10, which said that iCloud was reduced to 5 GB. 2 hours later I received a new email with comfirmation on the purchase of +20 GB storage plan. However, I only have access to 5 GB on my iPad and iPhone. Called Apple Support but they couldn´t help me. Did you find any solution ?

  • Upgrading to iPhone and adding old phone back onto plan later... is it possible?

    I am on the verge of upgrading my non-smart-LG Octane to an iPhone. Currently my husband has a very very cheap Tracfone, which is fine for him as he rarely uses it- we don't have a land line so it's basically an emergency phone. However, Tracfone is not that great and his cheap phone is falling apart. My current Verizon plan is just for one phone, with no data plan. If I upgrade to an iPhone now, can I hang onto my Octane and add it back to my current plan as his phone later on if he decides he would rather do that than keep the Tracfone? Last time I upgraded I was able to let him have my old phone and use it as the second phone on the Verizon plan, but I want to be sure I can do it later on instead of having to decide when I get the iPhone. I'm trying to keep my costs down as much as possible, and he won't be needing a data plan (I don't have one currently) so I want to wait until know for certain what the iPhone will cost monthly before deciding if it's a good idea to add another Verizon line and give up the very cheap Tracfone line. Thanks for any help you can give!

    Yes, you can upgrade now, add the data plan for the iPhone ($30 for 2 GB data), and then later add a second line using the Octane.  At that point you MAY have to switch to the Share Everything, since you are on an individual (I'm assuming) Nationwide plan with limited minutes; the option to add a line and make it shared plan may convert it to SHare Everything (unlimited minutes and texting, shared data).
    In either case, you don't need to decide when you upgrade to the iPhone.  The options will be similar now or later.

  • HT1495 I have 2 iPhones for 2 different phone numbers and a new ipad. Is it recommended to use 1 Apple ID or not?

    I have 1 phone number with an iPhone 4 and I have got one more number with an iPhone 5s and an ipad air.
    I don't know if to set the new devices (5s and ipad) with the same Apple ID or not.
    Of course I would like to use the same contacts and emails on all the 3 devices but I'm not sure how to proceed.
    Thx in advance!

    First, my answer assumed you are the primary user on all the devices.
    To use a different Apple ID, simply log out of the Apple ID in Settings > iCloud and log in with the old one.
    Check these other locations to be sure they use the same Apple ID (the one you want to use).

  • Adding two possitive numbers results a negative????

    Hello everybody i posted that in an other subforum but i guess it was the wrong place. I have a strange problem that it's racking my brain! i have the following code for (int i=0;i<ascii.length;i++){
    int randNum=rand.nextInt(100000000);
    buffer=randNum*256+ascii[i];
    (ascii[i] is an array of four integers that picture an ascii characters).
    Normaly that would result a buffer full of positive numbers.In my case thats not always true. Many times i get as a result a negative number even if the other two numbers that i add are positive. What's wrong here?? Thanks in advance!

    Integer.MAX_VALUE is 0111 1111 1111 1111 1111 1111 1111 1111
    Add one to it, and you wrap around to Integer.MIN_VALUE: 1000 0000 000 0000 0000 0000 0000 0000 (-2 billionish)
    Keep addiing, and you end up at -1: 1111 1111 1111 1111 1111 1111 1111 1111

  • Can extension numbers be added to phone numbers?

    Is there was a way to include an extension to a phone number in 'Contacts'? For example, (202) 555-1212 x2232.

    Tap , then tap Pause. Pauses appear as commas when the number is saved.

  • IPhone 4 sync erased all my phone numbers

    Okay, call me technology-challenged but I'm new to having an iPhone and getting used to the sync-ing process.
    Had a Verizon phone ported over to my new iPhone with 100s of phone numbers in the address book. The first time I tried "sync-ing" with my Mac Pro, I was really just trying to recharge the iPhone and get some tunes on it. Next thing I know, ALL of my phone numbers disappear from the iPhone and I have all these useless old email addresses in the contact list of the iPhone.
    I'm the type of person who doesn't keep phones numbers in the Address Book on my main computer because I don't need phone numbers in there ... just addresses for my email lists for my business.
    So, is all lost?
    I noticed that it said the iPhone was "backing up" before the sync-ing process began but can't seem to find the actual back-up file anywhere or any way to "restore" it.

  • Can I get iMessages from two separate phone numbers

    I have two iPhones with two separate phone numbers and two separate Apple ID's.  I would like to get the messages being sent to my computer to come in from both phone numbers.  Is this possible?

    Hi,
    for the   Points
    Thank you.  Now....can you explain to me HOW to do this?
    I was sorely tempted to say "yes" again.  (I can explain)

  • Help with iPad Identifying Phone Numbers in iMessage Send & Receive Settings / iMessage Syncing Help - iOS 6 - iPhone - iPad

    With iOS6, iPhone and iPad users will see that their Send & Receive iMessage settings have updated across their devices to be made available at both phone numbers and email addresses. You may have also seen alerts on one or more of your devices advising that another device is now using the same Apple ID/phone number for iMessage.
    Being able to be reached on iMessage on both Apple ID and phone numbers across devices means that iMessage can keep the same thread and sync across devices.
    Due to having 2 iPhones on different phone numbers running along side my iPad at one time, (whilst I was waiting for my phone number to be moved to a new provider), my iMessage settings on my iPad lost my phone number completely. I thought I would document the steps to recover this for anyone in the same boat.
    1. Check that you are signed in with the same iCloud Account on both iPad and iPhone.
    2. Turn off iMessage on your iPad from Settings > Messages.
    3. On your iPhone, go to Settings > Messages > Send & Receive. You should see your phone number and your iCloud email address in the 'Your can be reached by iMessage at:' list. Make sure both are ticked.
    4. At this point, I synced my iPhone with iTunes, then synced my iPad with iTunes.
    5. On your iPad, turn iMessage back on - your phone number should now show in the 'You can be reached by iMessage at:' list. Tick the phone number. You should receive an alert on your iPhone.
    This should resolve the issue.
    With the above set up and with the iOS 6 updates, iMessage should now sync fine across devices however I have still found the most successful way to run iMessage is to always start new conversations from your Apple ID and to start new threads by addressing the first message to an Apple ID from an Apple ID.
    To do this, go to Settings > iMessage > Send & Receive and tick your Apple ID in the 'Start new conversations from:' list, then start a new iMessage thread to the recipients Apple ID. This way, the thread will sync across iPad and iPhone. Note that a thread set up this way will not fall back on SMS, so you get a clean iMessage thread. This method also worked/works on iOS 5, as long as you send the first message of a new thread from an iPad (which can only send via Apple ID) to an Apple ID.
    Hopefully this helped someone!

    ipad has no phone number, you use a same email address for both devices. and set it in Settings>Messages>Send & Receive

  • HT1766 I want to restore my iPhone to the backup I did just before upgrading to iOS6. Today's sync/backup erased most of my contacts and almost all of my phone numbers within the remaining contacts.  No iCloud backup because of other issues still to resol

    I want to restore my iPhone to the backup that I did just before upgrading to iOS6.  When I try to pull up old backups, I only see one from this morning and an old one from May 2012 when I still had my iPhone 3GS.  I have not been using iCloud since it was set up improperly when I first switched to the 4S, the contacts weren't being synced AT ALL.  visited the genius bar, they said I need a whole other appointment to visit them and solve that, I haven't had a chance to do that yet.  Thus, I am backing up to iTunes.
    This morning's sync/backup resulted in me losing most of my contacts, and for the contacts that remain, 99% of the phone numbers are gone.  I can recover my calendar entries from this past week, but I don't know how I can recover all of them from my May 2012 backup.
    Since I had a backup just last week, I'd like to just go back to it.  But how?  Or, is there another way to get my contacts restored?  And why did they disappear?  And what else may be gone that I just don't know about yet?
