Snmp enable traps slb ft

I trying to enable snmp traps on the CSM-S in order to get notification through HP Openview Network Node Manager that a 'fault tolerant' event has taken place. I am running 2.1(5) code.
I found the command reference for the CSMS 2.x code:
http://www.cisco.com/en/US/customer/docs/interfaces_modules/services_modules/csms/2.1.1/command/reference/s.html#wp1057213
There is a reference to the command: snmp enable traps slb ft
This is supposed to send an SNMP trap when the CSM transitions from standby to active after detecting a failure in its fault tolerant peer.
This example shows how to enable fault tolerant traps:
Cat6k-2(config-module-csm)# snmp enable traps slb ft
This command is not available in CSM configuration mode. In fact, there are no snmp commands at all in the CSM config mode.
Do I have to enable something globally on the 6500 first?

The "config" trap enables the ciscoConfigManEvent notification, which triggers when you exit configuration mode or do a SNMP set.
The "config-copy" and "copy-config" traps are the same thing on different platforms, and enables the ccCopyCompletion trap, and triggers when a configuratio copy operation via SNMP completes.
The "config-ctid" trap enables either the ccmCTIDRolledOver or ciscoConfigManCTIDNotifyGroup, which appears to be related to the configuration change tracking identifier feature.

  • What traps are generated from "snmp-server enable traps module"?

I'm at wit's end here ... I've been browsing doucmentation like a madman, but I just can't find it.
I've got a 6500 sup 720 running Cisco IOS Software, s72033_rp Software (s72033_rp-IPSERVICESK9-M), Version 12.2(33)SXI3, RELEASE SOFTWARE (fc2) with this in the config:
    esdb8#sh run | inc module
    snmp-server enable traps module
    esdb8#
Can anyone tell me what traps would be generated on what conditions with this statement?  Pointers to docs are more than welcome!
    Thanks in advance,
    Olof

This command will enable the following traps:

This is from the CISCO-STACK-MIB, review the link for entire MIB.  I could not find an IOS document,
however this 6500 CatOS command reference shows the same command in CatOS lingo (set snmp trap module).

    Hello,
I am trying to figure out what is the equivalent command to configure the IOS "snmp-server enable traps config" on a Nexus 5020 running NX-OS version 4.2.1.N2.1 ,can someone please help me with this problem.
Also I would like to know if there is a cisco howto document or tool to migrate from IOS to NX-OS  ?
    Any help is greatly appreciated
    Thanks
    Frank

    Hello,
both Nexus 5k are not generating a trap after a config change, because on both Nexus running same NX-OS version show up the snmp-server enable traps config command. This is really strange behavior, because we are using the same software version for the Nexus 5k devices it doesn't make sense to me. In the meantime I checked the command line guide for this software version but the command wasnt showing up.

  • Syslog equivalent to "snmp-server enable traps fru-ctrl"?

Does "[no] snmp-server enable traps fru-ctrl" toggle cefcMIBNotificationEnables of CISCO-ENTITY-FRU-CONTROL-MIB such that traps/notifications concerning cefcModuleOperStatus get generated?
Are there syslog equivalents to the traps/notifications above? If so, can anyone post a sample entry, so I know what it looks like and what keywords to search for?

It depends on the platform and IOS release. There is the %ENTITY_ALARM-6-INFO syslog which signifies an entity change. This would come closest to the cefcModuleStatusChange trap.
Generally speaking, card insert and removal operations, the OIR syslog messages are supported across platforms:
    %OIR-6-INSCARD : Card is inserted
    %OIR-6-REMCARD : Card is removed
Other platforms and card types may provide additional details if a module fails (e.g. %FECPM-1-INITFAIL for a NM module in a 2600/3600).

  • SNMP Configuration Traps

    Hey Guys,
Can someone explain to me - or point me in the direction - where I may be better able to determine the difference between the following taps.
         config                Enable SNMP config traps
         config-copy       Enable SNMP config-copy traps
         config-ctid         Enable SNMP config-ctid traps
         copy-config       Enable SNMP config-copy traps
    Thanks
    Nik

The "config" trap enables the ciscoConfigManEvent notification, which triggers when you exit configuration mode or do a SNMP set.
The "config-copy" and "copy-config" traps are the same thing on different platforms, and enables the ccCopyCompletion trap, and triggers when a configuratio copy operation via SNMP completes.
The "config-ctid" trap enables either the ccmCTIDRolledOver or ciscoConfigManCTIDNotifyGroup, which appears to be related to the configuration change tracking identifier feature.

Is there anyway of limiting the type of traps to be sent to a particular SNMP management station? When I enable snmp-server enable trap ds1 e.g., I would only like that type of trap to go to SNMP Server A and not SNMP Server B. Can't think of any way myself?

  • SNMP v3 TRAP

    Hi,
We are trying to configure SNMP V3 trap on our routers and switches. I can able send V3 trap to our NMS, but it is mentioned that we need contextengine and contextname to process the trap.
We have configured a simple TRAP configuration without aut and priv.
How can i find the context information. Is this is configurable. How ?
    Here is my trap configuration
    snmp-server user TRAP TRAP v3
    snmp-server group TRAP v3 noauth notify *tv.FFFFFFFF.FFFFFFFF.FFFFFFFF.FFFFFFFF0F
    snmp-server host 10.4.x.x version 3 noauth TRAP
    Thx
    -uthay

You don't need context information for sending traps.  Your NMS will need to know the SNMP engineID of the agent, however.  You can find that with the "show snmp engine" command.  You will then need to configure your NMS with the agent's engineID and authentication/privacy parameters.

  • How to get SNMP enabled systems

    hi,
I am using Adventnet snmp agent.
Mainly I am working on SnmpTarget class.
But my fuctionality is to add the snmp enabled systems available in the intranet.
can anybody help me to find the way for the above functionality...

Here is a tech note on how to collect CPU from devices via snmp.
Also, for future reference and a great bookmark, here is the SNMP Object Navigator here on CCO you can use to search for snmp mib objects and tehir associated OIDs.

I use Ciscoworks LMS to send me emails when a given syslog arrives. (syslog, automated Actions)
It can also take SNMP TRAPS, not sure if it can actually send you email when it gets a specific TRAP, but i guess it can.
Any linux server with the right basic tools will also do the same.
castlerock SNMPc is a very good SNMP tool, and can search and email among other things.
Also gives you a Red,amber, green view and polls devices f.x. for a given service, like a TCP port.
    highly customizable.

  • Problems understanding SNMP OIDs/Traps

    Dear Community,
i would be very glad if you could help me with this thopic...i seem to have some trouble understanding it...
    Here an example:
    2010-01-18 06:28:44    Unknown alert received from device ber-be-swt01.is24-rz.de of type SwCiscoIOS. Device Time 82+21:21:53. (Trap type 1.3.6.1.4.1.9.9.43.2.0.1.6.0)\nTrap var bind data: \nOID:  1.3.6.1.4.1.9.9.43.1.1.6.1.3.738  Value:  1\nOID:  1.3.6.1.4.1.9.9.43.1.1.6.1.4.738  Value:  4\nOID:  1.3.6.1.4.1.9.9.43.1.1.6.1.5.738  Value:  2\nOID:  1.3.6.1.6.3.18.1.3.0  Value:  10.3.32.2
Ok. Let's take the trap type:
    1.3.6.1.4.1.9.9.43.2.0.1.6.0
Searching with SNMP Object Navigator (http://tools.cisco.com/Support/SNMP/do/BrowseOID.do?local=en) i only get as far as:
    1.3.6.1.4.1.9.9.43.2.0.1   -> ...6.0 is unkown.
If i search for the OID
    1.3.6.1.4.1.9.9.43.1.1.6.1.3.738 for example
    i get the following:
    1.3.6.1.4.1.9.9.43.1.1.6.1.3  -> ...738 is unknown.
This happens with a lot of OIDs for me (not just these ones). If i understand the OID correctly, this could be a command from the command line which forced this trap.
So what's the .738 for? Why couldn't it be recognised by the search-function?
In advance i like to thank you for any feedback.
    Sven Schlingloff

Try using my search and translate tool at http://jaguar.ir.miami.edu/~marcus/snmptrans.html .  If you do, you will see that 1.3.6.1.4.1.9.9.43.2.0.1.6.0 translates to ciscoConfigManEvent.  The OID 1.3.6.1.4.1.9.9.43.1.1.6.1.3.738 translates to ccmHistoryEventCommandSource.  However, ccmHistoryEventCommandSource'd OID is 1.3.6.1.4.1.9.9.43.1.1.6.1.3.  The .738 is the specific instance.  The definition of ccmHistoryEventCommandSource is:
"The source of the command that instigated the event."
This object comes from the ccmHistoryEventTable which is indexed by the ccmHistoryEventIndex object.  The definition of that object is:
"A monotonically increasing integer for the sole
purpose of indexing events.  When it reaches the
maximum value, an extremely unlikely event, the agent
wraps the value back to 1 and may flush existing
    entries."
So, the 738 is simply a unique number which identifies this particular history event.

I configured the SNMP but nothing is been seen on SYSLOG Server. But I am able to ping the syslog server from ACE as it is in the same subnet.
But the messeges are not getting recored to the syslog server. I reloaded the ACE and saw OID getting generated for link up/dow and restart but nothing been recorded on the syslog server.

  • Enabled SNMP trap

    Hi Experts,
When i configure Snmp trap in switches it is showing a list of commands, What exacatly is these are?
snmp-server enable traps snmp authentication linkdown linkup coldstart warmstart
    snmp-server enable traps tty
    snmp-server enable traps vtp
    snmp-server enable traps vlancreate
    snmp-server enable traps vlandelete
    snmp-server enable traps stpx
    snmp-server enable traps port-security
    snmp-server enable traps config
    snmp-server enable traps entity
    snmp-server enable traps copy-config
    snmp-server enable traps fru-ctrl
snmp-server enable traps flash insertion removal
    snmp-server enable traps syslog
    snmp-server enable traps bridge
snmp-server enable traps envmon fan shutdown supply temperature status
    snmp-server enable traps hsrp
    snmp-server enable traps bgp
    snmp-server enable traps pim neighbor-change rp-mapping-change invalid-pim-message
    snmp-server enable traps ipmulticast
    snmp-server enable traps msdp
    snmp-server enable traps rtr
    snmp-server enable traps vlan-membership
Does it cause more CPU utilization? Do i need to enable snmp traps to monitor network using solarwinds NPM. I have configured community string and snmpserver host address.
    Thanks
    Vipin

    Hi Vipin,
We usually configure SNMP traps to monitor our network reachability and availability. If anything goes on Device whether it is a link down situation or any issue with protocol running on the Device. So, whenever anything goes wrong on the device it generates an SNMP Trap and notify you if you have configure SNMP-Server host to receive the notifications/traps.
To configure SNMP host command following is the command that you need to configure:
    (config)#snmp-server host
    E.g.:
snmp-server enable traps snmp authentication linkdown linkup coldstart warmstart
Above trap will send you send you following information :
    >Authentication : if any one tries to poll the device using wrong community string
    >linkdown/linkup : if any of the interface/ports/links goes down it will notify you
    snmp-server enable traps bgp
Above trap will send you traps regarding problems with BGP running on your Device
Now I come to CPU part, yes it may spike CPU sometime if regular polling is done from the Management Server or if any MIB has long output. You can use Solarwinds NPM for the same however if it causes high cpu then you have to openup a TAC Case with NMS team to have the issue resolved.
To know more about MIB's on your device you can execute command on your Device 'show snmp mib' and can translate the MIB's using following link to know more about particular MIB :
    http://tools.cisco.com/Support/SNMP/do/BrowseOID.do?local=en&translate=Translate&objectInput=1.3.6.1.2.1.15
Kindly let me know in case you have any other doubts.
    Thanks & Regards,
    Nikhil Gakhar
