SNMP - Setting up inventory system to gather Apple equipment information

I'm working on setting up an inventory system to track our desktops, laptops, switches etc on our campus. I'm able to use WMI for the windows boxes and SNMP for the network devices. My main goal for the Apples is to use SNMP get the "system name" (done) and "serial number" (not done). For this, I know I'll need to enable SNMP on all the Macs and then I need a MIB/OID that helps me get to the the Serial number. At this point I've looked around as many places as I can and can't find a good MIB to help me get to that data. Assuming this data is there, can anyone point me in the right direction?

Can you provide a few more details about your plans?
Windows cannot backup using Time Machine, so you'll need to look for a Windows backup program if you want to back up files on the XP laptop. The backup program will assume that you are using a drive formatted for Windows though, which the Time Capsule is not.
It might be possible to store some files from the XP laptop on the Time Capsule, but life would be much, much easier if you added an inexpensive USB drive directly to the XP machine for your backups.
The Time Capsule drive is formatted for Mac and you can't even "partition" the drive without removing it from the Time Capsule (voiding the warranty).
When you get the new Mac laptop, you can start backing up to the Time Capsule using Time Machine.

I have gone through the referred documents and also done an example about the ADF Security from Cue Cards.
But i want to know something about the Security about the adding Users.
How can we add, drop and edit users from within the Fusion application or a web application, as for now as in the example we create the users and roles by using the jDeveloper.
To be clear, like in any other webpages like in a mailing websites or any other.
As in my program, i want the function to add, edit and remove users through the application.
I also had written similar comment in Shay's blog and he directed some good thing but I couldn't get to the point.
Is there any example or tutorials for this ?

Because the permissions have been changed, you will need to put them back to what they were before. One of the ways to do that is to reinstall your OS X to make sure that everything permission wise gets put back to what it needs to be to work properly. Based of to the operating system that you say you have, I have provided the steps for reinstalling Snow Leopard. When doing this, it does not overwrite your personal data; it only touches the operating system.

Right, but the original question was not, "do you think a mute status indicator on the screen would be useful". The question was whether there would be some way to implement one.
In any case, what you seem to be overlooking is that there would be a lot of people who MIGHT need to be reminded of the mute status, PASSIVELY. Its a different cognitive operation, where the device takes the lead and reminds ME of its status, on-screen, (just as I look at it for other status indications, such as new email in inbox).. without me having to remember to think of the mute status question unprompted. I find it totally illogical that Apple left this out. It could be in the bar at the top with the other status indicators SO EASILY.

This question has been asked and answered several times in the Boot Camp forum https://discussions.apple.com/community/windows_software/boot_camp.
You should read the Boot Camp Installation Guide. The new Boot Camp drivers are a download. They are not included on a disk.

Set up a system that can use iPad

What does it take to set up a system? I cant seem to to find a how to for enterprise ipad use. I want an ipad that has nothing but an RDP connection that i control.

You could via the Restrictions lock out the use of the Mail and Safari apps, and turn off the ability to install other apps. That's all you can do, though; you could not lock out all the other apps other than your RDP app. For more information, see:

As to wiping remotely, you could do that via the Find My iPad service, but that's not hard to defeat. A third-party management system such as Casper from JAMF Software might offer more capabilities for both wiping and configuration.

Changing from Periodic inventory system to SAP

Hi All,
I have an accounting questions regarding company that switching from Periodic Inventory system to SAP's perpetual inventory system.
For company that practices Periodic Inventory System, the method to calculate cost of goods sold = opening stock balances + purchases - closing stock balances. All these is reflected in the P&L statement.
When they switch to SAP, do they need to enter all these figures into SAP for the opening balances?
As SAP will not have opening balance stock, closing stock and purchases accounts, do they have to create these accounts in P&L just to take in the balances?
Does anyone have implemented for company that changing from periodic to perpetual inventory system? How do you take in the opening balances? if possible please give example, thanks in advance.

Thanks for the reply. But what is the variance that you guys are talking about? Take example:
Old system:
Opening Stock balance = $ 5,000
+Purchases = $20,000
-Closing Stock balance = $ 9,000
Balance = $16,000
The amount that goes into Asset is Closing Balance $9,000 and the amount goes to P&L as COGS is $ 16,000? The rest for $20,000 and $ 5,000 can be ignore?

Im not sure wether I got you right or not. But my advice/s would be as follows:
These steps help you get rid of old apps you downloaded years ago and you do not use anymore.(Also frees space on your mac after emptying the trash)
1) go to iTunes and delete all applications in it. Make sure to move them to trash! Do not empty your trash yet. Its your backup if step 3 doesnt appear.
2) connect both your devices(one after each other) and make a backup. !!!Dont press the Sync button, press the Back Up Now Button
3) Then it asks you if you want to backup applications as well. Confirm. (This is how apps get transferred manually)
4) Then Sync your devices... The first time it might be, that there are some additional apps loaded to your devices you dont want to.. delete them on your Device (not iTunes) and after that you should be good every time you sync again.
5) now you can empty your trash on your mac.
Further,
- You should regularly connect your devices with iTunes to make sure they are backed up. (Even if you have activated iCloud backup, the iTunes backup is more proper i.e.. Apps)
- If you hate scrolling through a list of apps in iTunes, you can re/install apps directly on iOS not via iTunes. I absolutely never go to the "Applications" section in iTunes. I install and delete apps directly on iOS.

To change the iCloud account on your phone you have to go to Settings>iCloud, tap Delete Account, provide the password when prompted to turn off Find My iPhone. When you delete the account you will be given the option to either keep or delete the iCloud data from your phone. This also, only deletes the account and the iCloud data from your phone, not from iCloud. Your husband's phone won't be effected by this. Then, to create a separate account, sign back in with a different Apple ID (you can continue to share the same ID for iTunes).
If you have any photo stream photos that you want to keep on the phone, save them to your camera roll before deleting the account.
If you're sharing the same ID for iMessage and FaceTime you'll end up getting each other's text messages and FaceTime calls. To prevent this, go to Settings>Messages>Send & Receive, tap the ID, sign out, then sign back in with your new iCloud ID. Then do the same thing in Settings>FaceTime.

Pretty much, I want to set up iCloud with my Mac and iPhone. I have my own Apple ID that is different from the rest of my family, if I set up iCloud with my devices, it won't interfere with the rest of my family's settings? It's a trust issue. You can set them up so you don't receive each other's messages as long as you each have your own email address.
The trust issue is the fact that either of you can change the separation at any time via Settings by checking the appropriate (inappropriate?) email address.
To be absolutely sure you can never receive each other's messages will require two Apple IDs.
