SNMP timeout on 9140

I have a MDS 9140 that I can't access with Fabric Manager or Device Manager with SNMP v3. I could get in with this method last week. I can telnet in and use SNMP v2 using the community strings. When I try to use Device Manager I get a message saying busy network, no route, or snmpd is unresponsive. Is there any way to restart the snmpd process?

we have now the same problem on a 9509 switch with two supervisors. we tried to initiate a fialover earlier but with no succes.
what can we do?
btw, we're running on 1.2(1b)
we want to upgrade but first this issue has to be resolved.

  • LMS 3.2 DFM-all devices QUESTIONED-SNMP Timeout

I imported 26 devices to DFM. All devices became QUESTIONED, error is SNMP timeout. Here are the troubleshooting steps that I tried:
    1. rediscovered devices
    2. deleted and rediscovered devices
    3. increase snmp timeout settings
4.re-entered snmp strings in device credentials
But I still get the same result.I noticed that devices become questioned so fast.Any advise on this?

    Hi,
What version of SNMP you are using on these 26 devices ?Try to do the following:
    - Go to Device Center
    - Select one device for test
    - click on "check device credentials", select SNMP according to the version you are using.
    - See the results.
May be you get more technical and detailed information about the SNMP timeout error. I have already experienced some problems using SNMP v3. The problem was resolved when I configured the SNMP v2c instead of v3.
Also, I suggest you to try do "SNMP walk" test in the Device Center. If you get some results reading, for example, the value of "sysObjectId", just verify the Credentials Settings in DCR. You can edit the Credentials trhough the Device Center -> Edit device credentials.

  • LMS 4.0 Fault discovery snmp timeout

    Hi all,
    I am running LMS 4.0 on windows 2008 SP2 64-bit.
I have the problem that all devices from dcr stay in the questioned State with error state snmp timeout.
I have done a credential verification and snmpwalk to the devices and this works correctly.
    regards
    Joerg

    Joerg,
What kind of devices are they that are being questioned?
Make sure Fault Management in 4.0 supports the devices.

  • WLSE Configuration archive download SNMP timeout

HI, I´m new to WLSE. My AP´s are already discovered and managed, but when I try to download the configuration archive from them, the Job Always fail with a SNMP timeout error message. This problem occur in the upgrade firmware job too.
Whe I go to reports, device center, I can see the AP configuration, but in the configuration>archives>view archive I have nothing.
    I appreciate your help

You can configure the timeout value by selecting Firmware > Advanced Parameters. From this option you can change the "Per device job operation timeout value" to a higher value

  • SNMP timeout from localhost

    Hey guys,
I enabled SNMP to try to graph different things, and SNMP walk works but always times out after "hrSWRunPerfMem".
    snmpwalk -v1 -c mycommunity localhost:
    [snip]
    HOST-RESOURCES-MIB::hrSWRunPerfMem.916 = INTEGER: 8656 KBytes
    HOST-RESOURCES-MIB::hrSWRunPerfMem.926 = INTEGER: 4420 KBytes
    HOST-RESOURCES-MIB::hrSWRunPerfMem.932 = INTEGER: 2800 KBytes
    Timeout: No Response from localhost
After this error, I have to restart SNMP completely because it won't answer anymore. /var/log/snmpd.log shows nothing except the manual restarts.
I disabled almost everything except rocommunity and still get that error. There is no firewall enabled at all.
    Any ideas?

Fixed by using net-snmp from Macports.

  • DCNM SAN Client - SNMP Timeout

    Hello Everyone,
right now iam struggling with the configuration of a DCNM SAN Client.
The Installation and licensing (with some trouble) has been finished few days ago.The DCNM LAN Client is working well and there are no problems with connectivity or timeouts. SSH and SNMPv3 are working fine for both Clients (SAN&LAN).
Discovering Fabrics for the DCNM SAN Client is working very well to. But when I start the DCNM SAN Client and open a session to a fabric it looks like this:
If I try to "edit local full zone database" it looks like this:
Tried to troubleshoot this behaviour but at the moment I am not able to figure out the problem.
Maybe someone in this community does?
    Best Regards,
    Sascha

    This can be closed.
I got all answers... For the benefit of others who are searching answers for the same question:
    1) I just downloaded the dcnm client for LAN ... is there a seperate client for SAN ? I dont see any download links for SAN...  --- Yes .. DCNM SAN has a seperate client. After installation, you can open the DCNM page on http, and you would find the download links on top right corner for DCNM-LAN, SAN and device manager.
    2) Is it possible to add brocade switches to DCNM-SAN? Does it require additional licenses? - I dont think this is possible
    3) Can we use the fabric manager license "N5000FMS1k9" for DCNM SAN, or do we need "DCNM-SAN-N5K-K9" license for the nexus 5000? - Yes.. Use the same license and generate the PAK file. FMS licenses do work in DCNM-SAN..
    Good luck

  • SNMP Service Timeout Issue

    Hi,
I am facing SNMP timeout issue with 3 of my Windows Servers (2008 R2 Enterprise Edition). I am using Network Monitoring System to monitor devices. The issue I am facing with these servers is that the NMS is not able to poll CPU and Memory graphs.
I have restarted the SNMP service many times but no use. I rebooted one server and Its problem is gone. But rest of the two servers are still with the same condition (not rebooted yet).
I used the "Paessler SNMP Tester" to check the issue but sometimes it passes and mostly gives "No response" or "Timeout".
I also used "SnmpWalk.exe"  with command 'snmpwalk -r:<server ip> -c:community' but after processing few OID's it gives error "%Failed to get value of SNMP variable. Timeout."
Can anyone help to identify the problem and how to resolve it?

    Hi Zain,
Can you try to ping your server with the command "ping your server ip
-t"? It may be a network issue.
Besides, is there any warning or error related SNMP in the event viewer of the server? It may give some hints.
Here is a article about how to troubeshoot SNMP,

    Hi Steven,
Thank you for the response. I tested "SnmpWalk" both locally on the same server and from network as well but the response is same
"%Failed to get value of SNMP variable. Timeout.". However, I have checked the ping response and it is very much smooth. The server is actually an Active Directory Domain Controller.
The article you provided above applies to Windows Server 2003, Windows Server 2003 R2, Windows Server 2003 with SP1, Windows Server 2003 with SP2. I have Windows Server 2008 R2 installed on servers.
Can you provide me the event id for any warning or error related to SNMP for Windows Server 2008 R2? It would be then easy for me to filter the alerts.
    Thank you!

  • LMS 3.2 with SNMP v3 not working

    Hi ,
My network is currently running with SNMP v2 configured in easch devices. With snmp v2 our LMS 3.2 server is working fine. However we have planned to migrate our network to snmp v3 . I have configured my few devices for SNMP v3 and added them to my LMS server.
Except DFM module these new SNMP v3 devices are working fine in all other modules. In DFM these devices are reflecting under "snmp timeout" group.

    Thank you for your reply.
I can manually poll using SNMP v3 with the credentials (user, auth and priv).
I have other devices switches and routers also using SNMPv3 and was able to see the device using chassisview.
Since this is a LAB environment for now, I manually added each of these devices. See below; (ASA-VPN) is the device in question. Already tried increasing snmp timeout to 30 secs still no luck.

  • DFM doesn't send snmp packet for discovery

    I have a LMS3.2 DFM3.2.0 on Window 2008
After I imported a device into DFM, It's stuck at Questioned State
    It's shown as
*** Data Collector Status Information ***
    Error Code = Snmp Timeout
    Error Message = N/A
then I tried capturing packets and rediscovery again
I've seen only 16 Ping packets between LMS and Device
but I haven't seen any SNMP packets from LMS to Device
( I've tried SNMP Walk from Device Center and it's work )
So I think DFM has any problem on Window 2008 ?
because I have another LMS3.2 on Window 2003 but it's work normally

I  close firewall and delete the DFM.rps and DFM1.rps files under NMSROOT/objects/smarts/local/repos/icf.  Then, add one device to DFM, and  it to go into a Known state.
But when I open Firewall (have allowed already UDP 161 snmp) , It go to Questioned again. How should i do with firewall on Server 2008 ?

  • SNMP painfully slow

On SG500, SG300 and SG200 series switches, SNMP is painfully slow.
When I snmpwalk the switch, it dumps about 30 to 40 entries, pauses for a second, then dumps another 30-40 entries, pauses for a second, etc.
Multiple snmpget requests cause the snmpget to timeout becuase the switch didn't respond.  Monitoring traffic on stacked switches is basically impossible because of this due to the snmp timeout.
    1) why does this happen
    and
    2) how can I fix it?

I'm not specifically walking the entire tree, but I see the same symptoms when I do walk the entire tree.
This is on a set of 2 SG500-52P's stacked as a single manageable unit.  I'm walking the PoE power usage tree in order to obtain the total PoE power usage for the entire stack.    It takes about 15-20 seconds to complete this walk, during which time it seems other snmpget requests for other metrics (port bandwith, etc) are delayed and/or blocked until it is done.
Can the SG's only hangle one snmp session at a time?
The stack is pretty much fully populated with copper links and 3 fiber links.  All at 1 Gb/s.  A few LAG groups are setup as well.
The CPU usage on the stack as seen through the web interface is low even when the snmpwalk is timing out.
I've only had this issue on the SG series of switches.  Any other cisco product (true IOS product) snmpwalk is blazing fast.  I've done this same thing on catalysts with higher port density with no issues at all.

  • IPSec VPN won't initiate from remote site

    Hi all,
I have a site-to-site VPN configured between a 5520 at our data center, and a 1700 at a client's site for site-to-site connectivity.  What I've noticed is, is that the VPN can only initiate from my Data Center, never from the client router.  I can telnet into the router and start a telnet session sourced from the "inside" interface and it fails, yet I can see the NAT translations get created in the state table that should match the crypto-map.  However, if I ping a host on the inside of the remote LAN from my workstation (behind the 5520) to bring the tunnel up, and run the exact same command on the client router once the tunnel is up, it works.  Right now I have a continuous ping running from my workstation to keep the tunnel up, but obviously that's not the best solution
I had to modify this config to NAT the LAN addresses at the client to a non-overlapping subnet, so anything coming from 128.1.0.0/16 should be NAT'd to 192.168.105.[50-200]/24.  I've also got two static NATs for inbound access from the data center and those seem to work fine.
I've pasted the config below, can anyone see what I might have missed?

Although now that I removed and re-added the above config it brings the tunnel up as expected now.  Strange, yet irritating.

  • RME 4.3.1 on new server - 2 issues with Inventory and syslog

    Hi,
I recently installed new server 2003 with LMS3.2 and after the problems with DevicePackages i resubmitted all device and the device center tasks that was missing now reappeared.
So I went on and added my two VPN3030 VPN Concentrators.
This device is supported for RME inventory and syslog
I got the config-archive running (!) so thats fine (Runs via HTTPS login)
    I have two issues:
    1. I can not get inventory to work .
I have communication going, and a packet trace/sniff show I have syslog going into RME and i see SNMP GET and respones to/from device
I see some java error logs in ic_server.log fil
I have tried with two different LMS32-servers
I have increased SNMP timeout etc
I tried deleted the device and rediscover
    log are like this:

2.:I can not get syslog into the devices syslog reports
This is wierder than issue 1: I have two VPN3030, one actually does syslog fine, but one VPN 3030 does not
I havent done any thing different for the two device ...
one simply works, one doesnt ...
I get no syslog msg in device center for one of the device.
The syslogs ARE infact in the syslog.log
The syslog msg DO show up, but in Unexpected device report  ...
The same VPN device does work with my second server so I think this is related to RME database on one specific server.
But i have tried delete device and rediscover etc ...
    please help ...

ok - looks like i need TAC again ...
As for the syslog issue - this happens only for one device on one of my servers ...
That is what is strange ... So IP is coorect and ok - (they do get syslogs into DevCenter on one server and on other device)
Thank you for your reply - really nice that you take your time into this forum !

  • What's wrong? Verify and compare Cisco 2901 config after loading old config from Cisco 2801

    Hi Cisco Community / Friends,
I am new to this site though I have cisco account for many years. I am a CCNA ,I  passed my certification on January 2013 I seldom use and utilized my skills on networking becuase of my type of work. I am Project Eng'r working in a System integrator company . Anyway, I would like to ask assistance on the configurations of my Cisco router for this gov't projects.. Here's the situation.
We have a new project for the VSAT Comm'n of  Coast Watch Station ,  The VSAT was installed 7 years ago. The VSAT was only used for a year by this Gov't agency because of  subscription issue. Now, they wants to revive and use their VSAT facilities for the Coast watch monitoring. Now, some of this routers are working up to now and for some site  are already defective so I need to replace the old 2801 router with a new equivalent model which is Cisco 2901. My plan was just to load the old config into the new Cisco 2901 router. However, after loading it to the new router, I am a little worried because I've got some errors received. I load the old config by copying the old files, edit it in notepad, and load the config using Secure CRT (terminal emulator). When I copy the old config of cisco 2801 to new router cisco 2901 , below are the command not recognized on Cisco 2901. What's wrong ? What are these commands for?
Appreciate your comments and help on this matter.. Thank You very much
Note: I Attached the original config from Cisco 2801 and the other file is the config after I load the config file to Cisco 2901.

    Hi
    From Cisco's website:
The Modem Management Interface (MMI) is software that enables auto-provisioning for the Cisco 827 routers. The MMI uses a fixed PVC to communicate with the Proxy Element (PE) residing on the digital subscriber line access multiplexer (DSLAM). Using MMI, the Cisco 827 router updates the running image and downloads the prescribed configuration using a configuration file or configuration values in a provisioning information database.
The customer premise equipment (CPE) can be automatically configured using the Cisco DSL CPE download, but it can be configured only with the image provisioning feature.
So because this is your device, you don't want to use MMI anyways.
And "priority-list" is QoS. Probably that QoS-command is old and removed, because now QoS is configured using class-maps and policy-maps.
