Snow Leopard Compatability of Third Party SW Question

I'm considering getting Snow Leopard OSX 10.6
However I do use the applejack cleanup utility and Disk Warrior a lot to maintain my system.
Can anyone tell me if these third party SW tools are compatible with Snow Leopard if they work OK with 10.5 Leopard?
Does anyone have a list of things that DON'T work with 10.6 Snow leopard?
Thanks,
Steve

When will we get a fix for the Snow Leopard Compatibility issue?
I am growing impatient not being able to use cross dissolve or titles.
Its going to be a pain having to back out to OS 10.5. This is beginning to be like Windows Vista.

You don't say what "..Snow Leopard Compatibility issue.." you're having.
My titles and Dissolves - and everything else - work perfectly with iMovie HD 6 and with iMovie '09 in Snow Leopard.
Perhaps you need to revert to QuickTime 7 ..just in case you over-wrote QT 7 with Snow Leopard's own QuickTime X when you upgraded to SL.
QT7 and QT X both sit happily alongside each other in Snow Leopard ..you might want to give that a try.
But I have no problem with any aspect of iMHD6 nor iM09 (..and no trouble with "stills"..) using Snow Leopard on a "late '08" MacBook Pro.
I haven't yet installed SL (Family Pack) on my Mac Mini ..I'll let SL throw away my QT7 on that, and will see if that causes any problems with iMovie. If it does, I'll then download and re-install QT7 and see if that fixes any problems. But don't hold your breath ..I may report back tomorrow, but today I'm pretty busy! I'll do my best, though..

  • HealthKit Compatibility of Third Party Products

    Hello,
With iOS8 being released in two days I'm curious about support by third party products for the new HealthKit framework.  I've seen statements about Health app and HealthKit supporting standard bluetooth medical devices but I don't know what "standard" is (any LE BT 4.0?  specific bluetooth communication standards used by medical devices?).  I've also seen many references to support by third parties like WiThings but the context is never clear to me as to whether that's an example of the type of companies that could integration; that they've announced they WILL integrate; and/or whether that applies to future product releases or existing devices.  I'd like to pick up a few products to work with this new framework but right now I lack clarity as to which (if any) current devices will have this support.  I don't want to throw everything away in six months when the wave of actual HealthKit supporting devices come out (or natively supporting of the Health app versus having to keep using the menagerie of other apps to pass data back and forth through Health).
Anyone have insight on who does or does not support this?  Is the an equivalent to MFI that is a HealthKit specific certification?
    Thanks!

still technically an accurate response but doesn't get me where I'm hoping to go
I've done some searching and didn't find anything but I'm appealing to the discussion forum in case anyone else knows of anything or has better search skills than I.
So, we've established that Apple doesn't have a big list, that's OK.  We all agree that manufacturers would probably have this data somewhere they control.  Here are some more specific questions that I hope clarify what I'm after:
Is anyone aware of third party manufacturers that have stated HealthKit or Health app compatibility in their current product line?  (press release, statement on web site, have it on good authority, etc...)
Does anyone know if Apple has claimed support for a specific BlueTooth protocol for their native support of BT medical devices in either HealthKit or Health app?  Looking for the possibility to just select any device that adheres to that specific BT protocol.
Is there any certification that third party manufacturers have/will obtain for items that are compatible with HealthKit or Health app?  (a la MFI)
    Thanks!
PS Meg: I hope this doesn't sound snarky, I appreciate you taking time to respond.

  • Need help with Snow Leopard compatibility issue

We have a new iMac in (with Snow Leopard) and have loaded all our programs. Due to budgets, we have not made the jump to CS4 and are still on CS3 (waiting for 5). We work in an InDesign/InCopy workflow.
In launching InDesign on the MAc with Snow Leopard, we have noticed that the assignment folders are nonexistant and within the program you can't even open an assignment window. When you reopen on a system without Snow Leopard, the individual assignments are there, but the program states it can't find the main assignment, so it's cancelling out the assignments if opened on the Snow Leopard unit.
Does anyone have any info on compatibility issues with Indesign CS3 and Snow Leopard? My tech guy found nothing on this before we ordered the new system.

First things first. CS5 was announced today and preorders are being accepted.
I believe if you upgrade to CS4 you'll get a free copy of CS5. This is important because if you're upgrading a suite, tiered pricing makes CS3 to CS4 $200 less than waiting til CS5 comes out.
That out of the way, is everyone fully patched to CS3 5.0.4? Is Snow Leopard fully updated to 10.6.3? Do you have full read/write permission on the server?
    Bob

  • Snow Leopard compatibility ?

I have a Macbook which is about 3-4 years old which has OS X 10.5.8 (9L31a) as the operating system and want to know if I can download the Snow Leopard update

    Upgrading to Snow Leopard
You can purchase Snow Leopard through the Apple Store: Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard - Apple Store (U.S.). The price is $19.99 plus tax. You will be sent physical media by mail after placing your order.
After you install Snow Leopard you will have to download and install the Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1 to update Snow Leopard to 10.6.8 and give you access to the App Store. Access to the App Store enables you to download Mountain Lion if your computer meets the requirements.
         Snow Leopard General Requirements
           1. Mac computer with an Intel processor
           2. 1GB of memory
           3. 5GB of available disk space
           4. DVD drive for installation
           5. Some features require a compatible Internet service provider;
               fees may apply.
           6. Some features require Apple’s iCloud services; fees and
               terms apply.
Upgrading from Snow Leopard to Lion or Mountain Lion
You can upgrade to Mountain Lion from Lion or directly from Snow Leopard. Mountain Lion can be downloaded from the Mac App Store for $19.99.
If you sign into the App Store and try to purchase Mountain Lion but the App Store says your computer is not compatible then you may still be able to upgrade to Lion per the following information.
    A. Upgrading to Mountain Lion
To upgrade to Mountain Lion you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.8 or Lion installed. Purchase and download Mountain Lion from the App Store. Sign in using your Apple ID. Mountain Lion is $19.99 plus tax. The file is quite large, over 4 GBs, so allow some time to download. It would be preferable to use Ethernet because it is nearly four times faster than wireless.
OS X Mountain Lion - System Requirements
Macs that can be upgraded to OS X Mountain Lion
             1. iMac (Mid 2007 or newer) - Model Identifier 7,1 or later
             2. MacBook (Late 2008 Aluminum, or Early 2009 or newer) - Model Identifier 5,1 or later
             3. MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             4. MacBook Air (Late 2008 or newer) - Model Identifier 2,1 or later
             5. Mac mini (Early 2009 or newer) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             6. Mac Pro (Early 2008 or newer) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             7. Xserve (Early 2009) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later
To find the model identifier open System Profiler in the Utilities folder. It's displayed in the panel on the right.
         Are my applications compatible?
See App Compatibility Table - RoaringApps.
For a complete How-To introduction from Apple see Upgrade to OS X Mountain Lion.
    B. Upgrading to Lion
If your computer does not meet the requirements to install Mountain Lion, it may still meet the requirements to install Lion.
You can purchase Lion by contacting Customer Service: Contacting Apple for support and service - this includes international calling numbers. The cost is $19.99 (as it was before) plus tax.  It's a download. You will get an email containing a redemption code that you then use at the Mac App Store to download Lion. Save a copy of that installer to your Downloads folder because the installer deletes itself at the end of the installation.
         Lion System Requirements
           1. Mac computer with an Intel Core 2 Duo, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7,
               or Xeon processor
           2. 2GB of memory
           3. OS X v10.6.6 or later (v10.6.8 recommended)
           4. 7GB of available space
           5. Some features require an Apple ID; terms apply.

  • Snow Leopard & Compatibility with ATO (Australian Tax Office) CSI applicati

Since installing Snow Leopard on my Mac PRO I have not been able to access CSI and the Business Portal. Have updated to latest version from ATO website but the Business Portal does not recognise the CSI program as present on the computer. Any experience?

Snow Leopard 10.6 & Compatibility with ATO (Australian Tax Office)
ECI V 5.2.0 and CSI V 3.1.19 Using Java 1.6.0_17 required for ATO dealing have 3 issues, the summary below supply the solutions working as at 14 jan 2010.
Newer release version will fix the issues but in the meantime if you need to set up a new computer with OS 10.6.2 . I have summarised the issues and the solutions which I have sourced from online apple discussion and directly from many phone call to ATO support.
Please note: You will need either a new Digital certificate from the ATO with a new password unless or you can export your current Digital certificate from your old computer and you know your current ATO password.
To export existing valid Digital Certificate, Launch CSI certificate manager from within ECI on your old computer select the certificate in the list click the Export button and save it to our desktop, use the default format CSI Store Files (.csistore)
Then copy the file to the Desktop of the new computer running 10.6.x
Next you need to Download ECI and CSI from ATO
    http://eci.ato.gov.au/release/eciclient.dmg
    http://csi.business.gov.au/Pages/default.aspx
    Install first ECI, then CSI
    - Using 10.6.2 on a new computer with a Fresh Install (all new) but importing current sDig Certificate. I have encountered 3 issues as 14 Jan 2010 which are:
    1) ECI and CSI cannot launch see Solution (A) posted posted by Bruce Linn on Apple discussion, many thanks to him.
    2) After resolving issue 1, CSI open and import the Digital certificate but it is not visible, therefore it is not imported, because in fact the csi folder is Write Protected and need to be trashed. See Solution (B) supplied over the phone by ATO support level 2
3 After fixing 1 and 2 , when I import a BAS document from the ATO, when I go to the in Tray and sect the document and click open I get an error message :
Error - BT E103 The XML for the form being opened is invalid. Further details: Content is not allowed in prolog...
See Solution (C) emailed by ATO support level 1
Why the ATO is not posting the solution online saving us to pain of the manyy calls and wait for known issue, this is poor communication and a waste of productivity for all tax payers .
    + A) Solution
    1. Uninstall your current CSI installation by going to MacHD > Applications > CSI and choosing Uninstall CSI.
NOTE:- If you are prompted to download and install Rosetta, please do so as it is an application that allows "legacy" applications to work under the 64-bit environment of the Snow Leopard Operating System. It is on your Original 10.6 Install DVD
Supply your computer Administrator password to authenticate action and follow instructions on screen.
    2. Once CSI is removed, please use your browser to navigate to the following website: http://csi.business.gov.au
    3. Download and save the Macintosh installation of CSI to your Desktop.
    4. Locate the CSIINSTALL.DMG file on your Desktop and double-click on it.
    5. Run the CSI installer package, which will install many of the CSI components to your system.
    6. Once complete, locate the CSI package file (inside the CSIINSTALL.DMG) again and click on it while holding the CTRL button on the Keyboard. This will bring up an options menu - Choose "Show Package Contents".
    7. Double click on Resources, then double click on Jar Files (not Jar Files 13).
    8. Copy the CSI.JAR file to your Desktop, then close the current folder view.
    9. Navigate to MacHD > System > Library > Frameworks > JavaVM.Framework > Home > Lib > Ext
    10. Drag and drop the CSI.JAR file from your desktop into the EXT folder.
    11. Close all applications and attempt to use the ATO Online Service of your choice.
+ B) Solution which involves Activating Root User deleting invisible csui folder and disbling root user then re-importing certificate
    1. Navigate to MacHD > System > Library > CoreServices >Directory Utility.app
Clic the Padlock in Left Bottom Corner to open it and enter your password
    2. From Directory Utility.app Menu Bar Select >Edit >Enable Root User>enter a password and confirm
Minimise the window or push it aside you will need to get back to it soon to Desactivate the Root User.
    3. Clicl once on your desktop to activate the Finder > from the menu bar select>Go>Go to Folder
Enter ~/.csi Please note the ~ is the key below Escape on your Keyboard
    Clicl Go button
You need then to change the View selection to View as Columns (Command 3) or go to View and select as Columns or click the columns icon in the View selection button (3rd button from left)
Then Drag the .csi folder to the Trash and enter you password
    Empty the trash
    4. Go back to the Directory Utility.app
Clic the Padlock in Left Bottom Corner to open it and enter your password
From the Menu Bar Select >Edit >Disable Root User
Click on padlock to close it
    Quit Directory Utility application
    5. Go to Application>open the CSI folder>Launch CSI Management Utility.app>Click Import> navigate to your desktop where you should have stored the digital certificate you need to import, locate the certificate and import it> Clic Exit
Close all window and next Down load the Crimson.jar file it will be required for the next step.
    Download: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/834924/crimson.jar.sitx
+ C) Solution ECI on Mac OSX 10.6 (Snow Leopard).: Error - BT E103 The XML for the form being opened is invalid.
Please follow these steps to resolve your issues:
    1. Unstuff the Crimson.jar file to your Desktop
    2. Navigate to MacHD > Library > Java > Extensions
    3. Drag and drop the Crimson.jar file from your desktop into the
    'Extensions' folder
    4. Open ECI, navigate to 'Business', 'Activity Statements', 'In-Tray'
    5. Delete collected documents from 'In-Tray'
    6. Click on 'Get New Documents' and collect documents again (you may
need to change drop down menu on the top of the screen from 'Ready to
    Collect' to 'Collected').
    7. Try to open documents
I recommend restarting and Running a repair Permissions from Disk utility.

  • IPod Classic Compatibility With Third-Party Sound Dock

I own a TEAC Micro HI-FI CD-X10i and I was wondering if it would work with an iPod classic 160GB. I was considering purchasing an iPod classic (I already own a 5.5 G 80GB iPod). Has anybody tried using third-party audio systems with docks? If you have, please respond.

  • SDK for third party apps Question

i have the new version 1.1.3 04.03.13 and i am not able to get the third party apps and i wanted to know does anyone know when they will be putting it out?

Also, the release of the SDK will not coincide with new apps being available on that date anyway. Apps will need to be written and tested by the developers, then submitted to Apple for testing, digital signature, and sales. After they decide it is safe and believe it to be an asset to the iPhone, then it will become available. This will take months, not days after SDK release.

  • Leopard + Snow Leopard compatibility

I am thinking of installing snow Leopard on my macbook pro.
I am successfully working (other than the few known bugs), with logic 9 songs alternating from my macbook pro and my older G5 (songs stored on an external lacie).
Seeing that I can only install snow leopard on my intel macbook, will I still be able to work on my songs on the older mac (G5 Leopard), once they've been saved in snow Leopard.
    Any thoughts or experiences appreciated.

It doesn't matter under which OSX you save your Logic projects, Logic 9 projects saved under Snow Leopard will also open on a PPC machine running Tiger.

  • CS2 Snow Leopard compatibility?

I've searched without success whether Photoshop CS2 will run with Snow Leopard.
I'm on an iMac 2 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 3 GB installed memory.
    Thanks for your input.

Duane, nice to hear that your CS2 is working.
Your info is coming out a little at a time.
Did your computer come with Snow Leopard, if yes, you  will not be
able to load Leopard unless you buy a retail copy.
However, if you don''t use the fonts that are affected then you can
    stay the way you are.
    I also use Quark.
I went back to Leopard because SL created conflicts with Helvetica,
Helvetica Neue, Futura and other fonts.
Out of 32 weights of Helvetica Neue, I could only use 10 weights.
I lost the use of all my condensed faces.
Snow Leopard creates conflicts with a number of fonts.
    Check these links.

    http://forums.quark.com/t/21892.aspx

You should also do a search for SL font conflicts for additional info.

My Imac on start up shows an icon with a questionmark inside a folder. What can I try to fix it myself?

Thank you for your assistance. Very much appreciated.  I was able to install the snow leopard Install dvd holding down C but the repair facility was not available. I have time capsule and  a WD my passport external drive and was able to copy to the external hard drive.
It took around five hours to download but my imac is now firing up okay, but I don't actually know if it is now only working from the external HD. Sound gobblygook, but I am not expereienced in this field of repairs.

  • Snow Leopard on Mac Pro Hard Drive - question?

    Hi all
Been talking to a reseller who is offering me a reasonable deal on a Mac Pro.
I have asked that he install the Snow Leopard partition on a 2TB 7200rpm drive [Bay 1], but he has said that it can only be installed on a 1TB drive.
As I understand it, you can install Snow Leopard on a drive of this size (this is the same model of drive offered on the Apple store when you get a mac pro made to order.)
I was hoping to get this cleared up, so would appreciate some advice =)
    Thanks all!

Good grief the nonesense... you can install it on any drive, any size, there never has been a problem or limit, last time there was, it was PATA (or PITA) 128GB limitation on old G4s and an old OS X.
The reseller is smoking a pipe and seems to have lost his bearings. Stay clear of this uninformed seller.

  • Image Capture, twain sane interface, and Snow Leopard compatibility?

I have downloaded and installed Mattius Ellert's twain sane interface in order to be able to use an old scanner. In order to use it with Image Capture, Ellert's FAQ page describes a procedure for selecting the twain sane interface GUI over the native GUI. However this procedure fails in Snow Leopard; I seem to have no choice but to run the native GUI, with extremely limited functionality. The twain sane interface GUI is still there and still works; it is what comes up if I scan from Microsoft Word or Graphic Convertor. But I would like it to work with Image Capture and related Apple software (preview and the print/fax control panel). Does anyone know of a procedure to do so?
Also does anyone know where this GUI actually lives on the computer? I examined the installed file locations specified in twain-sane interface's bom file, and just found a bunch of .strings and plist files in Image Capture/TWAIN Data Source/Sane.ds/Contents/Resources, plus one file under ....Sne.ds/Contents/MacOS called SANE.

    Ronald,
The reason you are not seeing this device in Image Capture after installing the TWAIN/SANE stuff is because Apple removed the TWAIN interfaces from Image Capture in Snow Leopard. TWAIN is being deprecated on the Mac. What someone needs to do is develop an ICA/SANE bridge and then Image Capture would work again.
    Just trying to help.

    150 GB hard drive
    intel graphics card
can i remove windows xp and install leopard on it ?

    Welcome to Apple Discussions, PandaJin.
This is a sensitive question because it is both unsupported and violation of the license agreement.
There are hacks that allow OS X to install on a pc. However, even if you do install 10.5 on your HP, it will be fraught with problems. Mac OS X is built to run on Mac hardware. You have different specs, different hardware, different drivers. And AFAIK, you will be unable to run updates.
In short, if you do get the job done, you may have some bragging rights but little of anything else of value.

  • Ical Server Snow Leopard email notification: just a clarification question.

    Hi,
I succesfully installed my mac mini snow leo server.
Our scenario: icalserver calendar is used by 4 clients in our network.
ical server is running fine, but there is one thing I
do not understand: the workflow of email notification.
On the server I enabled email notification and set up an email adress [email protected] in Server Admin / Emailnotification.
Then I created a test event in ical. I did not use the local calendar,
    I used the caldav calendar.
Then I was wondering: why did mail start on mini server to send the invitation ?
Email data is still stored in Server Admin / Email notification, so I assume email is sent independently in the backgound from any mail programm !??!
It would be nice if anybody could give me any advice.
    Thanks

Invitations are sent to external email recipients directly by the server posting them to a known mail queue, (probably in your case on the same mini). There is a calendar server manual online which explains, and calendarserver.org where the project is based. I was only able to make it work using the internal account names, not a friendly one I set up for the purpose.
