So, I had a derp moment...

Being a broke college student, I scrounged up some old electronics and hurried to the local pawn shop (I needed gas in my tank ASAP and under $10 at the time...yay). One of which was my first generation iPod touch.
This thing hasn't been used in years. Upon plugging it in, it was so dead it showed me the battery icon filling up and I had to wait for it to continue charging.
It got enough juice to show me the iTunes icon, with a charger pointing at it.
I didn't think about it when I sold my stuff, and now I'm panicking because I'm worried that all my account information is on that iPod still. I know that, should I be screwed, I can always change my debit card info (which I'd rather not do, you know) and get a new card with a new number and all that jazz.
I deauthorized all the computers my devices are linked to, for time being.
But the question is, since the iPod hasn't been used in so long, would it just default back to factory settings? Is my account information still on that thing?
Thank you in advance!

The iPod will not reset to factory defaults/be erased when the battery dies.
If you had a screen-lock passcode on the iPod yo are pretty safe.
Change the passwords for all accounts used on the iPod.
The can't charge to your iTunes account with out the password.

  • How I got my ipdo to work again after the latest updater

    after about 20 hours of headaches and listening to everyone's similar problems and trying everything under the rotten apple tree, here's yet another solution that seems to have fixed the problem. will have to wait and see how long.
    I went to another computer that has never been tainted by (cr)apple software before. downloaded (do a save to a folder not a run) an earlier ipod updater from here http://www.soft32.com/download_121872.html
    I then disabled my network connection and installed the updater. after doing that I got a windows pop-up about rebooting to update my usb drivers. I said no, I prefer microsoft.
    it took a couple of tries but I got my ipod restored with nothing on it of course.
    I then installed itunes (latest version). It did recognize my ipod and I told it "not to auto update". I played around manually dragging files onto my ipod and it seemed ok so I took it back to the original computer that has my thousands of songs on it. experimented some more with manually updating it. felt it was working fairly well so took a chance at having it auto-update. all seems fine now.
    now at the risk of being un-constitutionally censored here's my opinion about the whole scneario.
    a) the people at apple are too incompetent to conjure up a "force to upgrade hardware" scheme. sorry, it's simply just that same incompetence that has created the problem. the same incompetence that can't fix the problem. and the same incompetence that ignores the problem. any decent company wouldn't ignore it's customers like this. at least admit the problem and say your working on it.
    b) when an apple product works it works...when it doesn't it doesn't. there are no fixes, no solutions. when it breaks it's time to purchase something new. anyone even contemplating sending in their ipod for repair shouldn't. if you are going to dish out that kind of dough you should move away from apple's proprietary stuff and get with the program and move to an industry standard such as mp3.
    c) the ipod fad will end like everything else in apple's history. the ipod like every other apple product is a joke. why else after 20 years can they only manage but a tiny percentage of the personal computing market.
    d) I'm obviously not a fan of apple, never have been never will be..just had a brief moment of insanity when purchasing my ipod a couple years back. will never happen again.

  • ITunes 7 sound and playback problems

    I downloaded iTunes 7 today and when I went to play a track I recieved hidious distortion from every track in my library. I have checked my speaker volume, system volume, iTunes volume and played other media players to see if the same problem came up with them and it did not. I also had iTunes running moments before I downloaded 7 with no problems so its definately 7 related. I have made sure the the equalizer in 7 is turned off and checked each and every setting to see if anything is messing it up and have not found anything. I have reintalled the software twice now as well. I run a Audigy 2 ZS and assume my drivers are up to date if not a fairly recent version.
    I should also mention that I run Windows XP 64-bit and have all the Windows updates up to date. One thing I noticed is that the Music Store icons next to each song are only appearing when I have the song highlighted which may indicate some bugs as I know the arrows use to be next to each item in the window in the iTunes versions prior. I bring that up obviously because perhaps 7 isn't running well on XP-64 yet.
    Any ideas on where I should start to troubleshoot this? The best description for the sound is a huge distortion filter where you can kind of make out the song behind layers of static and hiss. Its definately something to do with the software or its interation with my hardware and not nessicarly any volume settings that I can find.

    Me too.... Just upgraded to iTunes V7. Now I cannot play anything from within iTunes. When playing a song, it is just garbled. You can hear the song enough to tell what it is. But it is severly distorted. More of a "repeating warbling" type sound. Like a scratched record that is playing the same section over a few times before moving on. Also, when I double click a song to play, it takes 12-15 seconds before any sound at all comes out.
    In my other players, like Windows media, songs play just fine. All other audio seems OK. Just now cannot play anything in iTunes V7.
    I have had iTunes since at least version 4 or 5, and upgraded everytime a new version came out. Each time with no issues until now.

  • B&W 17" CRT Studio Display Monitor

    I have this connected to my G5 P/Mac which works fine.
    At present it is powered through my old G3, can I power the monitor directly through a power lead to the mains supply?
    I think the power lead from the G3 might do this?

    Salutations...
    ; >}
    It sounds like the monitor is re-calibrating. When you re-calibrate an Apple CRT the monitor goes though a self analysis and flashes solid colors on the screen. (Other brands are not as tightly integrated with the Mac OS so you must do this by hand, er... eye... er... whatever.) What OS are you using? I know there was a setting in OS 9 & OS 10.3 to re-calibrate automatically periodically. Check the Monitors/Displays control under “color.” I always switched off that feature and re-calibrated when I had a free moment.

  • Using Javascript to generate dropdown breaks task menu

    I am trying to use the Cloud Portal to create a workflow that retrieves some data from external web sources to populate some of the form fields. I cannot use the internal based Database connection as the data is likely to change very frequently and is dynamic based on the user logged in. I have managed to get a bit of javascript code working that populates a dropdown on a form and so I can submit the data I want. The problem is that when I activate the Javascript, it breaks the Task view (via Service Manager) and prevents the right hand list to be built. This in turn prevents me from completing the checklist and so prevents the task from proceding. If I disable the javascript, the page loads fine.
    The function I am using is below that puls in some JSON formatted data.
    myfunction(){
    var select = document.getElementById("VLANDetails.Deployment_Version");
    $.getJSON("/software_catalog", function(data) {
        $.each(data.devmap, function(i, id) {
            $(select).append($('<option/>').attr("value", data.devmap[i].id).text(data.devmap[i].name));
    Has anyone seen anything similar to this or can see what I am doing wrong.
    Thanks in advance

    Hi Sachin,
    Before I read you reply, I had a "Eureka" moment that I was about to write about.  I got my Javascipt to read my the value that was set in the Filterdropdown!  However, you somewhat burst my balloon with the revelation about how re-sizing
    window changes their size (i.e., Large to Medium, etc)?  It is true, my function does not work when I click the "restore down" icon on the upper right corner of my window, then it works again when I maximize the window.  That sucks : (
         Oh, well.  Thanks just the same!
    For what it is worth, here is the script I wrote:
    <!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.0 Transitional//EN">
    <html>
    <head>
        <script language="javascript">

                alert(document.getElementById("Ribbon.ContextualTabs.MyWork.Home.Data-Large-2-1").textContent);
        </script>

  • Magic Mouse works properly only on one user Account

    I just bought a Magic Mouse to use with my PPC Imac.  I have two users set up on this iMac and I set up the mouse while using one of those user accounts.  By the way I set it up to be a left-handed mouse with the left button being for the secondary (right) click. I got the mouse installed and it wasn't working very smoothly.  Then I discovered that I needed to update the software to the Magic Mouse Update 1.0. That seemed to get it working as fine as it could on this old machine and I was quite happy with it.  However, yesterday I switched to the other user account and the Magic Mouse was acting completely weird.  When I clicked on anything it was like a right click with menus popping up.  In addition, it wouldn't single click at all.  I checked in System Preferences that it was set up the same way as on the other account and it was.  I then tried to switch it back to be a normal right-handed mouse.  That gave me some functioning but it was very inconsistent and frustrating.  If it wasn't for the "old" wireless mouse that I had there were moments when I would have been completely stuck.
    Given that it worked fine on the one user account this doesn't seem like a hardward problem to me.  I also installed it on my husband's MacBook Pro running Lion and it works okay in both user accounts.  However, some of the special functions, like Smart Zoom and Mission Control don't seem to be functioning.
    Any help would be appreciated.

    Did you ever get this resolved. Same thing. In my admin user account it works but in the one I use most I can't swipe scroll or anything?

  • Is there a simple search function available in the revised App Store?

    I cannot seem to find a way to conduct a simple search of the millions of Apps in the newest version of the App Store in IOS 6?  The older version had the Categories option with a search window included.  The new version is far less flexible and causes a user to painfully conduct manual searches with out getting to the desired available apps quickly.  If you do not know the exact app you want you are forced to do these manual searches which frankly caused me to give up after 30 minutes of trying to find a simple print app.

    I have the same problem. You no longer have a widely comprehensive search, and iBooks search has the same issue. If you search for example, for "Sherlock Holmes," you used to get every Sherlock Holmes title. Now you only get titles with "Sherlock Holmes" in the actual title. You do not get "A Study in Scarlet" (the very first Sherlock Holmes novel).
    So far, iTunes in my Mac allow comprehensive searches in both categories, but it has taken a lot of joy out of using iPad for me. I would look for cool new apps and titles when I had a few moments, but now I only look when I have something specific in mind because I can't really do it with iPad.

  • "A Serious Error has Occurred", HELP

    So I have a project with a Monday deadline. I'm using Adobe Premiere Pro CC 2014. Just got to picture lock with the director and I was doing some minor tweaks to the audio. I got the dreaded "A serious error has occurred", restarted permiere tried to load the recovered file, and it crashes with the same error. "No big deal" I think, and then I tried to open the original file, and it does the same thing. Once all the media is connected if I try to move the scroll bar next to my time line the error pops up.
    So I'm starting to worry and freak out. I cannot lose this project file.
    Tech Specs on the machine:
    MacBook Pro (15-inch, Mid 2010)
    2.8 GHz Intel Core i7
    8 GB 1067 MHz DDR3
    NVIDIA GeForce GT 330M 512 MB
    Running Yosemite 10.10.1
    Adobe Premiere Pro CC 2014 8.0.0 (169) Build

    Update:
    So after resetting permissions for Adobe across the board on my computer. Then uninstalling and Premiere with the adobe cleaning tool, then reinstalling the latest version via CC, the issue still persisted.
    Every time I tried to zoom out of my timeline it would crash. All my media would connect though, so I knew it had to be some sort of minor bug. In the meantime since we were already at picture lock I was able to save an XML to give to the colorist, and export my audio tracks separately (vo and music) as ACC files. So at least I could tweak the mix that way.
    After all that, this morning, I had an epiphany moment. PP only started crashing when I had my audio tracks expanded so I could see the waveform and set points to rubber band the volume. So I collapsed the audio tracks, and bam! I was able to zoom out without crashing. So there must be something up with a bug in the timeline code.
    Is there a fast command to collapse all tracks in the timeline? Audio and Video?

  • HT1527 iTunes does not detect my iphone 4s but it shows in Windows

    I just purchased an iPhone 4s & a New iPad. Neither one are being recognised on my iTunes. I get a message saying that my Apple Mobile Device Support & iTunes are from an earlier version & need to be removed & re-installed.I have version 10.6.3 so I don't know how I can get any more recent. I have updated my McAffe Security & Firewall and have uninstalled & reinstalled ALL of the Apple componants & iTunes 4 times now. I still keep getting this message. I even stopped & then restarted the AMDS in the control panel & made sure it was set to Automatic Start.
    This is really frustrating! I would appreciate any help anyone can give me. I have Windows 7 Ultimate OS. Thanks!

    I somehow got 10.6 to download. I'm not even sure how I did it. I did a System Restore to an earlier point and everything was fine - go figure?? Now I have a new problem - 10.7. That trick didn't work with this update. I am seriosly considering a new computer, a MAC. I figure it can't be nearly this much trouble if everything is made by the same company, oplus my current PC is 6 years old!
    Since I am trying one last ditch effort to get this to work before spending $2000, I might as well see if you might have a solution so here goes:
    After downloading and installing Itunes 10.7 from Apple, I have no  Mobile Device Support (itunes wouldn't update from 10.6 so I had to do a complete uninstall and then download & reinstall). After a lot of searching on line and on different Forums I found a thread and followed the instructions for a standalone AMDS install using WinRAR.
    I did not have an option to remove or repair since the file wasn't on my pc to begin with so it just started to run an install. It looked like it was going to work but just as it was getting to the end an error message came up that said:
    "Apple Mobile Device Support wasn't installed on your computer. The installer encountered errors before Apple Mobile Device Support could be configured. Your system has not been modified.
    To try these operations at a later time, please run the installer again. Click Finish to exit."
    I then went to the Itunes.exe and tried to Repair, hoping that it might replace the missing Apple Mobile Device Support file. I received an error message saying:
    "Service Apple Mobile Device (Apple Mobile Device) failed to start. Verify you have sufficient priveleges to start system service" There were three choices, Abort, Retry & Ignore.
    Before doing anything I went down to Start, Search, Services and opened the Apple Mobile Device. I clicked "Start"  and got   Error 2: The system cannot find the file specified.
    At this point I went back to the previous error message, hit Abort and continued to look for answers. Mind you I had to uninstall & reinstall Itunes about 3-4 times before I figured out if I didn't uninstall iCloud I couldn't reinstall iTunes. Then I also tried something else you had suggested to someone that involved downloading Autoruns, but nothing with that did any good. The only things under Winsock were Bonjour & Windows. I looked under the Services tab & found Apple Mobile Device highlighted in Yellow and it said File Not Found.
    I have looked at all of the normal support articles from Apple Support and been on the phone w/ Apple. I actually had a supervisor remotely log in to my computer and he couldn;t figure it out but this was before trying the standalone AMDS install and He didn't suggest that.
    I have a rarely used netbook (that I am trying to sell) running Window 7 Home, so I thought I would try the update on that & it worked fine. At this point I am really confused so I am thinking what is the difference - well, as I said I rarely use the netbook, therefore all of the Windows updates had not been installed yet. (I use my PC daily so updates are installed as soon as they are downloaded) I updated itunes before installing the windows updated on my netbook so I had a eureeka moment and started to uninstall all the updates from my pc that I didn't have on the netbook. Well, there were about 25-30 updates to uninstall, 2 hrs & 5 updates later I figured there had to be a better way. It would take days at this rate. I don't know a better way and a system restore doesnt work because the updates span a couple of months.
    If you have any suggestions or ideas I welcome them. This has been the most frustrating thing I have been through. Like I said, I am seriously ready to bag the whole computer & get a Mac that already has the current version of iTunes on it.
    Thanks!

  • I transferred pictures from my computer to my iPhone 5c and would like to transfer them back onto my computer. Is there any way to do this? I've tried everything I can think of, I'm new to the iPhone community.

    I had to reformat my computer and the easiest way I had at the moment to save my photos was to just tranfer them to my phone. I guess I didn't realize that I wouldn't be able to transfer them back to my computer. I've never had an iPhone and my last phone, I was able to tranfer them back and forth and delete which ever ones I wanted to. I'm just looking for anyway to save my photos back to my computer, but I would love if it was easy! Thanks!

    He can select the pictures and share them with himself, which will put them in his shared album on his computer under pictures and icloud pictures. So they will then be in the shared folder under Pictures<iCloud Photos on his computer.

  • Adobe Staff pushing the Cloud

         Why is that the Adobe Staff is pushing so hard we all get on the cloud. Here ya go Swing over to Yahoo and see that The baord voted to reinstate the 2003 Equity Incentive plan.
    Equity Incentive is stock options that incease the amount of shares to by 17.5 mil so at a 45 dollar a share price we are talking about 18x45 810 milion on stock. I think the employes should get paid well. For sure but as for the cloud it is a profit beast set up to get 2x or 3x more money out of you a year.
    http://biz.yahoo.com/e/130412/adbe8-k.html
    The plan with the cloud is to "Funnel" you into the free or promo price then the price goes up.
    Adobe said its Creative Cloud exceeded 500,000 paid individual members and free and trial memberships exceeded 2 million, which the company said could lead to more paid membership.
    The company said it added about 153,000 net paid subscriptions during the first quarter and that it expects to reach 1.25 million paid subscriptions by the end of this year.
    A Win Win for everyone the share holders see high earnings the staff see some stock options. The only looser is you the consumer. Sorry Adobe be truthfull with us without us you do not thrive!
    upon reading this and the  confrence call I had an AHAAA moment as to Why they cloud is the only option from the mouth of anyone working at ADOBE
    Do yourselves a favor get off the cloud let Adobe come back down to earth. Watch the stock drop. Then upgrade as normal next year if you do there will an Adobe to buy from in ten years if not they may go away. If you own the stock sell ASAP the insiders are!
    http://finance.yahoo.com/q/it?s=ADBE+Insider+Transactions
    also note how much naryeen sells over 1mil shares this year
    http://biz.yahoo.com/t/08/4204.html

    We all need to band toghter and get our frinds off the cloud now. So Adobe and its cloud Fails its the only way to get Adobe back on track / I rember when they cared about costomers

  • ITunes With Windows 7 64 Bit Doesn't Access Ipad Since Last Update

    I'm assuming Apple has figured this out by now - but at least on my pc - to plug in my Ipad and make it work I have to stop the apple mobile device service (itunes is locked up otherwise) and then go to devices and reinstall the apple usb driver from C:\program files\common files\apple - which is pretty strange since the rest of the itunes software is in the program(x386) directory... I'm guessing someone had a blonde moment and installed part of the program to the wrong directory - but once I do that (and I had to do it again just now after the Ipad update) it works just fine. Just wanted to know if anyone else had the issue or if it was just me...

    I'm having a similar problem - my computer tells me that "one of the USB devices attached to this computer has malfunctioned and Windows does not recognize it". I'm also using Windows 7 64bit.

  • Time Machine full restore to new hard drive

    I'm going to change the internal hard drive of my laptop and before I do that I want to do a full restore of my last backup to the new drive via USB. I restart the computer with the Leopard installation DVD and use the Restore using time machine option under the Utilities menu. I choose my external hard drive as the source and the new internal hard drive connected via USB as the destination. Then I boot via USB to check that the copy was made ok before changing internal drives and I see that many files weren't copied. The applications folder wasn't coppied, and my home directory was 6 GB less. Even when I logged in my user icon was missing (not the other users ones)
    Why Time Machine decided to copy some files and not others? Is there any other solution for performing the migration?
    Thanks!

    The PSU and then HDD in my iMac G5 both went (cause and effect!) and so I too replaced the hdd, although in my case, out of necessity.
    I fitted the new hdd, then booted from 10.5 Retail version DVD.
    First I had to format the hdd via Installer/Utiities/Disk utility. Then I installed Leopard. I did not take the first opportunity to Restore from TM (this first opportunity is after you select the Language, you select Options from toolbar, then use the bottom one Restore from TM) which is what they guy did in the weblink from the previous post.
    I installed Leo, then it rebooted, then it went through the Welcome/StarTrek routine, then I did the restore from TM back up, after registration when it offers you the opportunity to restore from a previous Mac and it offers TM as an option. It looks like Migration Assistant but it isn't coz at that moment, nothing has been added etc. It doesn't give the dated options, and it took overnight, but hey presto! it was all there in the morning. Mail had to re-import the messages, other than that, it was fine.
    BUT TAKE CARE.....After the overnight restore, and before it all worked hey presto!, I had a nightmare moment coz it wouldn't take the Password. In the end, I had to reset the password using the Leo CD/DVD (stick in the CD/DVD, select language, then use Options menu and select reset password [NOT the Firmware password option].
    So, TM is impressive. But you MUST have the 10.5 DVD too.

  • Can't Customize, Change Settings, or Move Files -- Permissions Issue?

    Hey all:
    Just got a new MBP w/ 10.5.2. Successfully migrated most of my user settings and applications from the old Tiger HDD (old laptop died a horrible death).
    The problem is that aside from everything appearing to be the same, I'm finding that I don't have the access to do a whole lot with my own files. Several different problems that "seem" like they're stemming from the same accessiblity/permissions issue include:
    Intermittent trouble downloading files with Firefox's default download tool.
    Complete inability to change desktop background.
    Programs fail to remember setting changes after quit and re-launch.
    System Preferences do not remember changes to settings.
    Certain files can not be moved, renamed, opened, or deleted w/o admin authorization, or in some cases, at all.
    The problems started after I migrated the old system over after having an interim user account running for a few days prior. After migrating, I attempted to reconcile the two together and that's when things got hairy.
    In the past couple days, I have tried:
    1.) Archive and Install (preserving User settings - now down to just one admin).
    2.) Changing permissions to system read/write, admin read/write, everyone read only for the entire /User directory, applied to all enclosed items.
    3.) Repairing Permissions (which took about 10 minutes!)
    I'm at the end of my rope here. I'm stuck with my OS acting the way it wants to, which is the exact way it was after being archived and reinstalled, no matter what changes I try to apply in the Finder, Preferences, or in any programs.
    I'm thinking maybe a clean install and then migrating over the backup I just made on my external HD will get me my stuff without whatever troublesome thing is freezing me out, but I'm not really sure, and I don't really understand much about command lines in Terminal.
    Does anyone have any ideas? Many thanks.

    Oddly enough I just had a spastic moment with a mouse click and put my Drop Box in the Trash (I keep the Delete thing in my window toolbar, which is handy, but can lead to accidents)... Since I was playing with it I noticed its absence immediately. Realized what I had done after a moment's reflection, and put it back. Which just goes to confirm something I ALWAYS do before I empty the Trash: open it and see what's in there first, then click empty.
    As to whether removing ACLs is for advanced users only: well, up until Leopard that's the way it always was, there were, until now, NO ACLs on the users folders. So should everyone have been an advanced user until now? Did you ever delete a folder in Jaquar or Panther or Tiger and empty your Trash without checking? Indeed, if you use Time Machine, available in Leopard but not before, you are already protected from such goofs, since you can recover things accidently deleted using Time Machine, so actually you are in better shape with Leopard than ever before, WITHOUT the ACLs if you use Time Machine. Until Leopard there was neither belt nor suspenders to automatically protect you from losing data. Leopard supplies both.
    The situation reminds me of the continuing debate about virus protection on the Mac. Personally, I have seen various anti-virus programs cause all sorts of problems, and it has yet to protect any Mac system from anything (since as yet there are no Mac system viruses). Anti-virus software may have saved some users of Microsoft Office who share files with Windows users from getting a macro virus in their Word docs, and it might have kept a Mac user from passing on some email virus to some Windows users by forwarding stuff from the Internet. But still.... if you don't use MS Office or forward email junk, you get no benefit and may get some problems.
    Same seems to me to be true of ACLs: it is possible to get a benefit (you can't accidently toss your Movies folder and lose data, assuming you mindlessly empty your Trash and don't have a backup), but an awful lot of people are having an awful lot of problems.
