So why does my Macbook with Snow Leopard tell me I don't have permission to save things to my Seagate and never does on my iBook with Leopard?

I mean who's permission do I need to save or change my own files

I set up an administrative password, does this possibly have to do with the fact that I did that?

Yes- it is a Mac. I went through adobes system requirements and re- downloaded supportive software. The notice seems to happen near the end of the down load with the messages above. I'll look into your suggestion. Thank you- appreciated.

  • "You don't have permission to save in this location." Cannot save any files anywhere. All permissions open, all other browsers save OK in same place. Why?

I cannot save any files anywhere. I always get the message "You don't have permission to save in this location. Contact the administrator to obtain permission. Would you like to save in the {} folder instead?"
I have created a clean profile in Profile Manager, and used the Reset Firefox tool. The only way I can save files is to use another browser. IE and Chrome have no problems saving files to the exact same folders.
This seemed to have started with the last update on 10/5/2013.

Maybe something changed in the program shortcut you use to start Firefox. Can you check right-click > Properties > Compatbility tab and make sure nothing is selected there?
''I've never tried this myself, but the forum has a standard set of steps for a "clean reinstall" of Firefox to replace damaged program files. During this process, you are not removing personal settings, but you are removing some shared add-on folders, which would affect Windows Media Player and perhaps other plugins/extensions installed that way.''
Certain Firefox problems can be solved by performing a ''Clean reinstall''. This means you remove Firefox program files and then reinstall Firefox. Please follow these steps:
'''Note:''' You might want to print these steps or view them in another browser.
#Download the latest Desktop version of Firefox from http://www.mozilla.org and save the setup file to your computer.
#After the download finishes, close all Firefox windows (click Exit from the Firefox or File menu).
#Delete (or if you're nervous, move or rename) the Firefox program folder, which is located in one of these locations, by default:
    #*'''Windows:'''
    #**C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox (32-bit)
    #**C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox (64-bit)
#*'''Mac:''' Delete Firefox from the Applications folder.
#*'''Linux:''' If you installed Firefox with the distro-based package manager, you should use the same way to uninstall it - see [[Installing Firefox on Linux]]. If you downloaded and installed the binary package from the [http://www.mozilla.org/firefox#desktop Firefox download page], simply remove the folder ''firefox'' in your home directory.
#Now, go ahead and reinstall Firefox:
##Double-click the downloaded installation file and go through the steps of the installation wizard.
##Once the wizard is finished, choose to directly open Firefox after clicking the Finish button.
    Does that help?

  • Why can't I move downloads to flash drive  without "don't have permission" message

I continue to get this message when I go to the files I downloaded onto the computer and drag them to the flash drive,
"The operation can’t be completed because you don’t have permission to access some of the items."
I can move the files anywhere on the computer but can't move to an external source. I also get a similar message when trying to delete recycle bin. I have only had my macbook for two weeks and I'm not very happy with some of the stupid obstacles I am dealing with. I have went into the permissions for everything that gives me trouble and they all say read and write so I would think I should be able to maneuver around my laptop that I just spent over a grand on without any trouble.
I haven't tried saving work to an external hard drive because I always email my work to myself to this is the first problem that I can think of involving different sources connected to the computer.  But I have so far used the mac for the internet and to type some papers so I'm not sure what other problems I will encounter.

How is the flash drive formatted?  NTFS?  HFS?

  • CF8.0.1 Standard (32bit) on Leopard 10.5.7 - Don't have permission to access /CFIDE/administrator/index.cfm

Attempting to install CF8.0.1 (32bit) on Leopard 10.5.7 server, keep getting error message "You don't have permission to access /CFIDE/administrator/index.cfm".  Followed instructions from CF release notes "CF 8 update 1" part 2.  Switched Apache from 64-bit to 32-bit mode (sudo lipo httpd -thin i386 -output httpd); using conf file (httpd.conf) in /etc/apache2.  *Am confused by these instructions: (a) instructions for installing 64-bit CF8.0.1 on Mac OS X Leopard say to use "etc/httpd" for 32-bit installations.  but (b) instructions found at end of document under Mac OS X Leopard say that you can configure 32-bit CF on Leopard, but you must use 64-bit Apache in 32-bit mode.... and the location for conf file (httpd.conf) is in "etc/apache2".
I'm attempting to install/run CF8.0.1 Standard (32-bit) via Apache2 (32-bit mode), but am unable to get access to /CFIDE/administrator/index.cfm to finish installation.  File permissions for the CFIDE folder are System=RWX, Wheel=RX, Everyone=RX.  What am I missing here?

I am having the same issue... Any help appreciated..

I can normally access Firefox with no problem. Now when I try to connect to Firefox I see an error message that says: FORBIDDEN You don't have permission to access/on this server. What's up with that? How do I fix it?

Maybe the server is down for maintenance or updating.<br />

  • I just spent an hour composing a reply in a thread ("Firefox will not work with paypal"), only to see "You don't have permission" at Submit - total loss!

I was logged in to reply in the thread "Firefox will not work with paypal". I spent the better part of an hour carefully composing that reply, testing cases, providing links, etc... [Hint: Firefox, unlike other browsers, has a problem with scripts from server paypalobjects.com.] Because I had taken so long to compose the reply, it seemed like a good idea to check it via the Preview button, but I got a message that that function was not available. Of course I decided to submit it anyway, but when I hit "Submit" I got a message "You don't have permission ..." - at which point I was (stupidly) on a different page with that message, and everything I had composed was gone!

It might be too late for this, but it's what I use when this happens. Prepare for deep nerdom:
    * Open the web console below the error page by pressing Ctrl+Shift+k
    * Right-click the blank area and turn on logging of the request and response bodies
    * Resubmit the request by clicking the reload button
    * Click the new URL that appears to open the viewer showing the headers and bodies
There you may be able to copy out the content of your post from the Request Body. You can use a word processor or text editor to find/replace the + characters back to spaces.

  • I use windows on parallels. I synced my Outlook 2010 Calendar through the iCloud control panel; but when I try to update the calendar through outlook 2010, it says I don't have permission to update it ?... and thereby, fails to sync with my iCal .. ??

Is somebody facing a similar issue... Would be glad if someone could share their views; and provide a solution if it exists
    Thanks

It was a CCC clone, and I had 2 versions,  One that runs monthly and one I made because the computer was acting wonky.  I called Apple because the Mac gave me an error message on my Time Machine disk, telling me to copy the backup to another drive and reformat.  I was unable to copy it to the new drive because it said I didn't have the proper permissions.  After trying several things, I deleted the data and reformatted.  The drive is one of my older ones, so I suspected it was really bad. (Turns out drive is good according to Apple)  So no time machine backup.  However, I figured I had two CCC files, so there shouldn't be a problem, still thinking it was my external drive that had the issue.  Talked to Apple who finally sent me to a store.  The Genius said that it was actually the HD in the iMac that was bad.  I told them to go ahead and replace, thinking I had double backup at home, as well as an online backup system.
I was unable to restore from the new CCC, but the older one worked, except I only got about 30% of my data.  I've been in contact with Mike Bombrich and he reviewed my logs and saw that somehow CCC did not see my photos or movies or music and deleted them from the update run that morning. Now I have about 160GB of the original 540GB of data on CCC.  I'm not a techie, but because I had problems with the TM, the CCC clones and CrashPlan that the bad HD screwed up the search/sync in some way.  I am waiting until the darn online system stops scanning my disks long enough to try to download and restore from CP, but it has been in a constant scan/sync mode for over a week.

  • Why are there folders on my mac that i can't open. says i don't have permission! its is mine

There is a folder I have found on my HD. called user templates. It tells me I don't have permission to open this? This is my computer! Why can't i open it?

FireFox can't open lots of files it isn't suposed to. DMG is opened by the Mac osx as a virtual volume file you just drag the FireFox icon to where you want it installed. Check your desktop for a FireFox volume... like a drive. Double click the DMG file if it is not there. This is how Mac works it has nothing to do with FireFox, many apps install this way!

Copy your ENTIRE iTunes FOLDER to an External Drive... and then from the External Drive to your New Computer..

Open Activity Monitor in the Utilities folder.  Select All Processes from the Processes dropdown menu.  Click twice on the CPU% column header to display in descending order.  If you find a process using a large amount of CPU time (>=70,) then select the process and click on the Quit icon in the toolbar.  Click on the Force Quit button to kill the process.  See if that helps.  Be sure to note the name of the runaway process so you can track down the cause of the problem.

I've got the Macbook Pro with leopard, if i want to get Lion for it, do i have to get snow leopard first? i don't have a mac app store!

Ian, this might help explain it a bit more:
    http://osxdaily.com/2011/06/07/mac-os-x-10-7-lion-system-requirements/
It's only available from the store, and you need 10.6.6 to access the store. But if you can download it using 10.6.6 on another machine, you'll be able to install it on a machine meeting the hardware requirements (it doesn't matter which OS was installed on it).

    Hello kanani-2014,
After reviewing your post, I have located an article that can help with your Mac not turning on. It contains a number of troubleshooting steps and helpful advice for the issue you are experiencing:
Troubleshooting: My computer won't turn on
    Resolution
If your computer won't turn on, try each of these steps:
Verify you have a good connection from your Mac to the wall outlet by confirming the power cord and adapter if present are securely connected and plugged in. To check if the wall outlet is working, plug in a lamp or other electrical device.
If the wall outlet is working and you continue to have no power try another power cord or adapter if available. If it works you may need a replacement cord or adapter.
Note: See Apple Portables: Troubleshooting MagSafe adapters for further troubleshooting with MagSafe adapters.
Disconnect all accessories that are plugged in to the computer, such as a printer, hub, or other mobile device.
If your Mac supports user-installable memory, solid state drive, or hard drive, and you recently installed any of these, make sure they are installed correctly and are compatible with your computer. If possible, reinstall the original memory or drive into the computer to find out if the behavior persists afterwards.

If you are still unable to start up your computer after trying each of these steps, visit an Apple Store or Apple Authorized Service Provider (AASP) for further diagnosis. I cannot send an email from my iPad 2? No problem receiving, why does this happen? Have tried the suggestions for setting up email and after doing the sync mail through iTunes receiving worked great but still cannot send? Any help would be great!

The fact that you can receive means you have a valid e mail address, and have established the connection to the incoming server, so all of that works.  Since the send does not work, that means your outgoing server is rejecting whatever settings you used formthe outgoing set up.  Try them again.
Google your particular isp, and ipad and many times you will find the exact settings needed for your isp.  Or tell us here, and soneone else may be on the same isp.  Some mail services need you to change a port, or have a unique name for the outgoing server.
    Kep trying.
