SOA connection pools
Hi I have a few doubts regarding connection pools..
1) When an instance is in the running state do the connection pools remain open ? When are connection pools closed exactly? only when the instance gets completed/faulted/terminated or in other conditions also
2) Is there anyway to monitor the current total number connection pools open ?
Thanks in advance
Nikhil
1)When an instance is in the running state do the connection pools remain open ?
Here we have to talk about the connection, connection pool holds all the connections created to the database.
When the BPEL engine wants to persist any data to the database the connection will be availed from the connection pool and will be return to the connection pool once the commit is completed.
The instance status is not related to the connection status.
2) Is there anyway to monitor the current total number connection pools open ?
You can monitor the connection details-
Login to weblogic console
Services-->DataSources-->Data source name(SOADatasource)-->Monitoring
Customize the table and add the the required columns like Active Connections Current Count.
I hope this will help u...

SOA 11.1.1.3.0 - Connection Pool has been suspended during weak load
Hi,
I have a SCA with different BPEL, all uses several db adapters.
Each db adapter has retry count set to 1.
Each bpel has the following properties:
<property name="bpel.config.transaction" many="false">required</property>
<property name="bpel.config.inMemoryOptimization">true</property>
<property name="bpel.config.completionPersistPolicy">off</property>When I do a simple load testing (with 10 concurrent threads invoking the same SCA webservice) my connection pool is suspended.
Here is my connection pool configuration:

SOA Suite 11g - Connection Pools constantly getting suspended...
Hi,
I have composites, bpel processes using database adapters.
*I keep getting "+Pool mds-owsm is Suspended, cannot allocate resources to applications+" and " Pool SOALocalTxDataSource is Suspended, cannot allocate resources to applications.." in soa_server logg.*
There are no errors in db trace logs. It seems related to the WLS JDBC data sources, they are constantly getting suspended.
After a while no new connections can be created, and managed soa server hangs. Restart is the only "solution" for now...
I have increased "Maximum Capacity" on the connection pool to 300 without success.
Any ideas, pointers, help appreciated.

Middleware
Oracle SOA Management 11.1.1.3.0
Oracle SOA Infrastructure 11.1.1.3.0
Oracle SOA Suite Patch 11.1.1.3.0
Oracle SOA Common Adapters 11.1.1.3.0
Enterprice Manager 11g Fusion Middleware Control 11.1.1.3.0
And..
Connection Creation Retry Frequency is set to "10"
Test Connections On Reserve is enabled.
Login Delay is stil set to 0 (by default), why should this value be other than 0?, wouldn't increasing it to 10 heavily slow down message-processing..?
DB and SOA are not on same machine, no n/w issues.

Requirements for JDBC Driver needed for SOA 8 }connection pool
Hi,
I have an AS400 jdbc driver. This driver is JDBC API version 2.x. Also is a Driver Type 4.
What are the requirements of a JDBC Driver needed for connection pool in SOA 8?
Thanks.
Lorenzo JimenezYou can use pretty much any jdbc driver, including type 2 and type 4.
You need to make sure your shared libraries needed by the driver are available to the appserver when you boot.
Other than that, it is no different than configuring any other driver. -
Using commons dbcp in SOA 8 for connection pool?
Hi there,
It is possible to use commons dbcp in SOA 8 for connection pool ing?
At far I tried SOA 8 does not work either Mckoi and AS400 databases jdbc drivers in a connection pool.
So having the experience with Tomcat and commons-dbcp with successfull connection pools, I am trying to use a alternative database connection pool, or use SOA8 connection pool using commons-dbcp and it with our AS400 db.
Do you think it is possible?
Thanks for your input!
Lorenzo JimenezI am really lost.
All I know i that I used this jtopen driver on tomcat with and without connection pool.
I used the same parameters, but SOA implementation or program is different. Maybe is the 1.4 api, maybe is the jdbc expected.
Really don't know.
What I know I as400 and mckoi drivers don't work where in Tomcat work ok.
Please check this thread with the error that SOA gave to me

Can't modify Outbound Connection Pools properties in WebLogic 10.3.6
I'm trying to configure BAM adapter in WebLogic Administration Console. Navigate to deployments -> OracleBamAdapter -> Configuration -> Outbound Connection Pools -> eis/bam/rmi -> tried to enter property value of Hostname but I couldn't. It is not in edit mode - no check box in front of Hostname column. I tried to enter the value in the hostname property and save but nothing was saved.
I've unlocked domain configuration lock and I see the <lock & edit> button is disabled and <release configuration> button is enabled in the change center. So why can I modify the property value?
WebLogic 10.3.6
SOA 11.1.1.6
BAM
All are installed in the same server and SOA is installed with development mode. I didn't bounce the admin server after unlocking the domain configuration, is this required?Thanks, Arik. I just figured it out and was banging my head against the wall when you posted the message. :-) Thanks for the reply!

Pointbase Server, Connection Pool Issue
Hi All,
I have set up a cluster containing two nodes - one local and other
remote machine.
I have extended my domain to include the Integration and Workshop
extensions, as my application needs them. I have also configured the
Node Manager to start the remote server and also setup the workshop
database on my machine.
I have set the classpath in the Node Manager to contain the jars -

Getting error while configuring DbAdapter connection pool
I have SOA Suite 11g (11.1.1.5.0) installed.
I have created a Data Source (soademoDatabase) in WLS Admin console, as per instructions in Oracle Tutorial.
Then I created a connection pool for DbAdapter.
However when I tried to update the DbAdapter to 'Redeploy this application', I got following error:
weblogic.descriptor.BeanAlreadyExistsException: Bean already exists: "weblogic.j2ee.descriptor.wl.ConnectionInstanceBeanImpl@a0965ff7(//
[javax.resource.cci.ConnectionFactory]/ConnectionInstances[eis/DB/soademoDatabase])"
After this, when I restarted Admin and Managed servers, DbAdapter is failing to start. Following error is shown in the log:
[4] The ra.xml <connectionfactory-impl-class> class 'oracle.tip.adapter.apps.AppsConnectionFactory' could not be loaded from the resource adapter archive/application because of the following error: java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: oracle/tip/adapter/db/DBConnectionFactory

BPEL - Database Connection Pools, JNDI - How do you do it ?
Scoured forum and BPEL developer and admin guides, and didn't find any good instructions on how to configure and use database pools for BPEL, except possibly this post nearly two years ago data-sources.xml and oc4j-ra.xml
I suspect things may have changed some in two years ! Where can I find this info. Does anyone who has done it have step by step instructions ?You should have scoured better ;-)
I had a problem that needed to be fixed with a connection pool. Check this post:
Strange Toplink errors appearing
It points to some documentation that will help you:
http://download-uk.oracle.com/docs/cd/B31017_01/integrate.1013/b28994/adptr_db.htm#sthref528
Basically you have to do the following:
- look in the WSDL of your DB adapter. It will have a jca:address section. In this section you will see a jndi location, something like: eis/DB/<a_connection>. Make note of this location
- on the server look for the file oc4j-ra.xml in <oracle_home>/j2ee/<oc4j_soa>/application-deployments/default/DbAdapter. Edit the file. In there are mappings that basically forward the object in location eis/DB/<a_connection> to jdbc/<connection>.
E.g.:
<connector-factory location="eis/DB/DBConnection1" connector-name="Database Adapter">
<config-property name="xADataSourceName" value="jdbc/DBConnection1DataSource"/>
<config-property name="dataSourceName" value="loc/DBConnection1DataSource"/>
<config-property name="platformClassName" value="oracle.toplink.platform.database.Oracle9Platform"/>
<config-property name="usesNativeSequencing" value="true"/>
<config-property name="sequencePreallocationSize" value="50"/>
<config-property name="defaultNChar" value="false"/>
<config-property name="usesBatchWriting" value="true"/>
<connection-pooling use="none">
</connection-pooling>
<security-config use="none">
</security-config>
</connector-factory>Now copy one of these blocks and edit it so that the location matches your eis/DB/<a_connection> location. Map the dataSource and xaDataSource properties to jdbc/<connection> s (which you create in the next step)
- go to the enterprise manager, click on the soa suite oc4j container, choose the 'administration' link. Click on the 'Go to task' icon for JDBC connections. Here you can create your connection pool, and db connection. Make sure the location of your JDBC connection matches what you have configured in the oc4j-ra.xml file.
- restart your soasuite/bpel oc4j container
- bob's your uncle ;-)

Connection pools, dspMaxThreads, listener-threads and ReceiverThreads?
Hi,
We are using BPEL 10.1.3.3. Our integration uses the database adapter and the AQ adapter against the same remote database 10.1.2.3. We are experiencing problems with transaction that fails with:
java.sql.SQLException: Unable to get a physical connection from the database...there are no connections available.Error Code: 0.
Then we tried to change the connection pools to not use so many connection but now instances disappears.
The 2 connections pools are setup like this:
DBAdapter connection pool with max 10 connection
AqAdapter connection pool with max 2 connections
We have 3 domains:
Default:
dspMaxThreads 20
dspMinThreads 5
Test:
dspMaxThreads 100
dspMinThreads 5
Production:
dspMaxThreads 60
dspMinThreads 5
listener-threads and ReceiverThreads are set to 300 in the orion-ejb-jar.xml in C:\oracle\product\10.1.3.1\OracleAS_1\j2ee\oc4j_soa\application-deployments\orabpel\ejb_ob_engine
I had a look at Clemens blog about lost instances (http://clemensblog.blogspot.com/2007/07/soa-suite-10133-patchset-and-lost.html) but I cannot understand the part about listener-threads and receiverThreads. Can anybody explain how the size of the connection pools and the dspMaxThreads, ReceiveThreads andlistener-threads has to be?

Peter LorenzenThanks Marc,
Yes I have and I got it working. If you set dspMaxThread to 90 and my connections pools to max session 90 it works. Don't understand why it has to be so high. It's potentially a lot of resources that has to be available on the database (Extra ram). But it looks like it's OK for now.

Tracing individual session from connection pool
Dear all,
DB : 10.2.0.4.0 (RAC)
Solaris 5.10
Application : Oracle SOA 10.1.3
We have CRM application deployed in SOA which inturns connects to RAC DB for data.All the
connections from SOA comes through a connection pool to the DB. Now, is there any way I can able to trace a individual session coming form this connection pool ?
Please guide ?
KaiYou have a couple of options as far as I know:
1. If you are using a Client Identifier that is granular enough to identify a particular user you can enable tracing at that level.
2. You could try and capture the particular SID and SERIAL# for the session and enable tracing that way.
The [DBMS_MONITOR|http://download-west.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/appdev.102/b14258/d_monitor.htm#i1003679] package provides the interface to enable tracing.

RFC_FAILURE affects Connection Pool
Using VB.NET (2003) with .Net Connector 2.0.
An intermittent problem causes a RFC Call to fail, and an exception is raised in the .NET code. The Exception message is:
See RFC trace file or SAP system log for more details
The Trace file shows:

This error adversely affects the Connection Pool as calls to other RFCs are now prone to similar intermittent errors
Is there any way to prevent the problem causing problems with Connection Pool ?
Is there any way of removing a faulty connection from the pool ? (NB Close and Dispose on the connection does not help)The application is a Windows service - so I don't want to lose any connections. I assume that closing the connection (and not returning it) will affect the number of available connections in the pool(?).
I'm using async. RFC call, and the problem is detected in the callback function when the EndRFCCall is performed.
Original code:
Public Sub Execute_RFC(ByVal parameters as string())
' Assign SAP Connection to RFC Proxy
sapRFCProxy.Connection = SAPConnectionPool.GetConnectionFromPool(<i>ConnectString</i>)
Call the SAP RFC - Asynchronously
arAsyncResult = m_sapRFCProxy.BeginRFCCall( params..., AddressOf RFC_CallBack, objAsyncState)
End Sub
Private Sub RFC_CallBack(ByVal ar As IAsyncResult)
Try
' Retrieve the SAP RFC Response...
Call sapRFCProxy.EndRFCCall(ar, <i>param1, param2, etc...</i>)
Catch ex As Exception
' Log the Error...
End Try
' Return the Connection
Call SAPConnections.ReturnConnection(sapRFCProxy.Connection)
End Sub
I have changed the code as suggest so that the connection is closed, disposed but <u>not</u> returned. This cleared the RFC_INVALID_HANDLE errors, but the main problem of a corrupted connection persists.
Diagnostics produced by the amended code:

Connection pool / db failure
WLS6.0 sp2 / Win2k
Oracle 8.1.7 / Solaris 8
problem is if DB fails, the connection pool fails, and will not restart. If I run a java weblogic.Admin EXISTS_POOL command, it says the pool doesnt exist.
If i run a RESET_POOL, using the system user password, it comes back with:
Exception in thread "main" javax.naming.AuthenticationException. Root exception is java.lang.Securi
tyException: Authentication for user guest denied in realm weblogic
<<no stack trace available>>
I have test on reserved set (and dual as the table).
Anyone shed any light on what could be going wrong, because right now, every time the DB fails, we have to restart the **&$"&^ server.... (and that takes around 20mins for all the apps to init)

willHi Will,
When you bring up the server, if the database is down, your connection pools
will not come up if you have an initial capacity greater than 0. This is a
known issue and the workaround for this is to set the initial capacity to
zero so the pool comes up even when the database is down, then make sure you
set the capacity increment to the value that you like your initial capacity
to be and have the TestConnectionOnReserve to true.

Hi Everyone
My Connection Pool parameters JCO api.
client=300
user=SISGERAL_RFC
passwd=******
ashost=14.29.3.120
sysnr=00
size=10
I have these parameters on my Connection Pool and sometimes appear these wrongs in my application:
1.
2006-01-07 13:20:37,414 ERROR com.tel.webapp.framework.SAPDataSource - ##### Time limit exceeded. LOCALIZED MESSAGE = Time limit exceeded. KEY = RFC_ERROR_SYSTEM_FAILURE GROUP = 104 TOSTRING = com.sap.mw.jco.JCO$Exception: (104) RFC_ERROR_SYSTEM_FAILURE: Time limit exceeded.
2.
2006-01-07 14:01:31,007 ERROR com.tel.webapp.framework.SapPoolConnectionManager - Timeout
Id like to know if is happening.
Are there something wrong with my connection pool?
What can be happening?
ThanksRaghu,
Thanks for your response.
Yes, the pool connections are in place according to the sAP note mentioned above.
