SOA suite: configure a new oc4j container, licensing and support

Hi
We have a SOA suite installation (10.1.3.4).
Default installation is containing a OC4J_SOA running the esb, bpel etc.
Now we have a java ear (java web service), and would like to deploy this to a dedicated oc4j container.
So we want to configure a new oc4j instance named oc4j_jws.
Actually, we have already done this, and it is looking good.
Now I only want to make sure the configuration of a new oc4j container is not violating any licensing and support agreements.
We have soa suite license.
I believe a soa suite license allows for configuration of additional oc4j containers.

The adding of oc4j instances is at least well documented within the Oracle Application Server Administrator's Guide:

  • Single SOA Suite Install with multiple oc4j instances and java processes

We right now have 5 BPEL processes and 5 ESB processes all running under one java.exe process. We would like to seperate some of
them out into their own java.exe processes without having to install more
%ORACLE_HOME% instances of SOA Suite. I can create an oc4j instance but of
course it doesn't have any SOA Suite stuff deployed to it. I tried to see what
the install would do with this new oc4j instance but it wants to create a new
%ORACLE_HOME% with an entire installation of SOA Suite.
Is there some sort of way to clone oc4j instances that have SOA Suite deployed to them so that you
    don't need multiple %ORACLE_HOME% instances?
    ### How is this Issue Impacting Your Business ###
We really don't want to have a lot of %ORACLE_HOME% instances to have to maintain. We are
migrating projects over from our current integration server product and we'll
have potentially dozens more BPEL and ESB projects. We definitely want to
group and isolate projects so that outages of one project do not bring down
    others that are unrelated.
We are currently experiencing periodic problems with one BPEL project that requires recycling but all the other BPEL and ESB
projects get recycled also. If we could put this project into it's own java
process without creating another SOA SUITE instance, it would be a big
    help.
    ANSWER
    =======
You can create multiple domains in BPEL or create multiple systems/groups in ESB to group different projects.
    MY REPLY:
    =========
We have been using systems/groups in ESB but they all run under the save java.exe process. I would assume that having a seperate domain in BPEL would also run in that same java.exe process.
Right now, the one BPEL project we have a problem with will gobble up all the JDBC connections from time to time and that requires a recycle of SOA Suite, which means all BPEL and ESB projects that run in that java.exe process get recycled also. We're working that issue in a different ticket.
It would be nice if the SOA Suite installation would install against a new oc4j instance and not assume it has to create a complete %ORACLE_HOME% instance. The components of SOA Suite seem to be J2EE based components.
Scenario: I already have an oc4j instance called oc4j_soa and a complete %ORACLE_HOME% installation of soa suite. I then create a new oc4j instance from Enterprise Manager. Then I would deploy the esb-dt, esb-rt, orabpel, etc. components of SOA Suite to that new oc4j instance and modify the necessary config file so that it can work with OHS and the SOA Suite Databases. Is this possible?
Does anyone have any experience with this or do people typically install multiple complete installation of SOA Suite with mulitple Oracle Homes?

    Hi,
yes, on metalink you get in touch with real experts....
You have to install serveral application servers to get different ORACLE_HOMEs.
For each one, you can install a BPEL PM.
But: For each BPEL PM you need your own database instance, or you have to configure them as a clustered BPEL installation.... (but i do not know if this work with non RAC DBs)

  • Restoring SOA suite on a new host fails.

SOA Suite is 10.1.3.1, and upgrade to 10.1.3.3.1.
this suite run on windows 2003.
I do the restore according to admin guide chapter 18.3.3
but when run the 3rd step
    bkp_restore.bat -m node_restore -o inst_register
    it prompts:
Service Oracle-OracleSOAServerProcessManager in a state that can't be recreated.
    Please remove it manually first.
I have checked, there is no Oracle-OracleSOAServerProcessManager service on the new host.
    any suggestion?

    Do this.
Stop services in A, make a copy of all Oracle Home, etc/oratab, /var/opt/oracle and so on
and coppy them to the B.
Then in B, restore the copy and make a chmod -R 750 for the complete ORACLE_HOME, then run the root.sh
After that, just make a little change in the host file, and put as an alias the name of A in B.
Then run the script $OH/chgip/scripts/chgiphost.sh -mid
and for the source use a and target use b for name and ip.
Check the log and if it's ok, just remove the name of A in the host file as alias.
    Hope this helps.
    Regards.

  • SOA Suite configuration assistant

    Hi,
during installation of Oracle SOA Suite on Oracle Database XE the Web Services Inspection Language assistant fails...
    Any generic solutions?

Are you installing basic or advanced.
If you are installing advanced then you must have run the irca scripts as the install checks that the schemas exist before continuing. This is documented in the install doc found on the CD / zip file. Here is a link on how to run it anyway.
    http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B31017_01/integrate.1013/b28213/irca.htm#sthref119
Basic install loads everything for you so you don't need to worry about loading schemas. If you are running basic then you may need to start again as something must have failed during the install. If doing advanced follow the link above to install the owsm schema.
    cheers

  • Should clients migrate right away to SOA Suite 12c?, what are the advantages and disadvantages?

12c looks like a fine version, it seems to have a lot of advantages and new features. Is it recommendable for clients using 11g to make an effort and immediately adopt the new version of the suite?

  • Licensing and Support of BC4J on JBoss

We have an application that uses BC4J (JDeveloper 9.0.4 I believe) that we want to move to JBoss. I have 2 questions:
    1. What licence do we need to run this configuration?
    2. What support is there for this technology?
I realise that this is quuite an old version but other constraints are preventing us from moving at this stage.

Please contact me and provide your company/contact, donald.smith @oracle.com. I will be able to help.

I know this is not a typical forum entry, but I'm at my wit's end, so I hope someone can help me...
We purchased Toplink from Webgain (UK) and have been using it productively for quite some time. I have a licensing query about Toplink, which I have been trying to get out of Oracle (UK) for almost a month now. I have been shunted between call centres, departments, e-mailees, etc. but still no answer. Someone finally mailed me our license details, but it turned out to be only our Oracle DATABASE licenses, not those for Toplink.
So: does anyone else have experience of dealing with Oracle as regards the Toplink product? In the UK?
    Any help will be appreciated.

  • SOA Suite 11.1.1.5.0 - Configuration failing

    Hi Guys,
This is something weird but not sure as how can this be possible.
I have installed RCU 11.1.1.5 (Patch 12395110) and now SOA suite configuration is failing with the no records error for the table - SCHEMA_VERSION_REGISTRY.
There is an entry for SOA Infra for the version - 11.1.1.5 but I am not sure why configuration is looking for the entry for the version 11.1.1.2.
    Please advice.
    Cheers,
    KK

Guys, any idea on this OR anyone faced the same issue?

  • SOA suite licensing for production use

    Hi,
I have been toying around with JDeveloper 11g and Oracle SOA Suite 11g and finally I can now say I am in a position to recommend to start moving the organisation's business processes and enterprise integration gradually to this framework. However I am slightly confused what the Oracle SOA Suite license would cover.
It is not clear what components are covered with the SOA Suite 11g license (for example: is the OSB also included? it is a separate download. Is CEP included?)
Also, will we need a separate Oracle database license for it to really work? If yes what database is needed (Enterprise, Standard etc.)? or does the SOA Suite license cover the use of a database too in some way, as long as it is used for SOA and BPEL etc.?
I presume that for a reliable framework we would need at least 2 nodes with clustering at both application level and database level, so we really need to do our homework well with regards to the costs required.
    thanks.

Oracle SOA Suite 11g licence includes full use license for Oracle Service Bus(even though it is available as separate download) and so is true for CEP.
    Refer to [http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E12839_01/integration.1111/e10223/01_components.htm]
Yes, SOA Suite will require a database and does not include any kind of database license related to SOA Suite license. For development purposes free Oracle DB XE will suffice.

  • Configuration of SOA Suite with SSL on Weblogic

    Hi,
I have SOA-Suite 11g along with Weblogic Server running and configured . I configured the SSL for the Weblogic and it works fine.
I can test it by running "https://weblogic:port/console"
Now i have to configure SSL part for the SOA Suite and i see coulpe of places like on SOA_Server--Domain, and SOA Server itself property where i can defined the Security and Keystore for SOA.My Question is how can i configured SSL On SOA Suite if my Weblogic SSL is already configured .

    Hi,

  • Domain configured to SOA Suite (silent mode)

    Hi,
How can I generate a domain (in Weblogic Server 10.3.3) configured automatically to support products as "Oracle BPM Suite", "Oracle SOA Suite", etc. but in silent mode? And then, how I can assign MDS repositories?
I have tested with WLST but it hasn't been successful...
    Thanks!

    Hi,
I also need the exact same requirement, a domain to be created silently for SOA/BPM suite, is there any way of doing it using WLST? We would run this script every night for a continious integration test which would provision the environment also.
After SOA suite is installed, we need to configure it using ./config.sh following steps:
    1. Supported components
    2. Configure username/passwd
    3. JDBC schema configuration
    4. Test schema
Is there are any WLST way of doing this?
    Please suggest.
    Thanks in advance,
    Bhaskar

  • Deployment / Configuration Scenarios for SOA Suite

Probably this should be posted in the Fusion 11g Middleware thread, but I am looking for information on how an installation of SOA Suite 11g would look like.
I have have the following requirements:
    - A development environment that supports 3 parallel projects.
    - A testing environment that supports integration testing.
    - A production environment.
First I was thinking about a single SOA Suite installation per project & environment (5). But then I thought Domains and Managed Servers - everything can go into a single SOA Suite with seperation on Domains.
Is there anywhere I can get som architecture overview for how a typical SOA Suite is installed in a working environment that supports multiple projects, integration testing and finally production?
    Thanks in advance,
    Eamonn J.

  • Proxy settings for SOA Suite 10.1.3.1.0

    Hi,
after migrating my processes into the new SOA Suite 10.1.3.1.0, one of my processes won't run anymore. This is due to missing proxy configuration.
I followed this explanation[1] which worked for the process manager 10.1.2xx but not for the SOA Suite.
I really appreciate your help and any suggestions.
    thanks,
    Gregor
[1] how to config the proxy of Bpel process manager(with password)

You need to go to the AS Control pages (Enterprise Manager). Click on the container that runs SOA suite (typically "home" for simple install, or "OC4J_SOA" for advanced install).
On the OC4J page, click on the "Administration" tabsheet. Click on "Server Properties".
You should find the commandline options for OC4J.
You will need to set the following options:
    -Dhttp.useProxy=true
    -Dhttp.proxyHost=<your proxyserver>
    -Dhttp.proxyPort=<your proxyport>
-Dhttp.nonProxyHosts=<any servers like localhost you don't want to run via the proxy>
