Software Assurance Learning question

Hi,
My company has active SA along with eLearning benefit. I want to know, how i can assign the courses to users. Nowhere i could find the link to invite users or assign users, although I am the administrator. The link was available 2 years back in the VLSC
site but it is not available in this site now.
Help is appreciated on this.

  • WS 2012 R2 Software Assurance with OEM

If I purchase an OEM version of Windows Server 2012 R2 Standard (from Amazon), can I purchase and apply Software Assurance to it?
This blog post seems to suggest I can:
    http://blogs.msdn.com/b/mssmallbiz/archive/2006/02/27/539953.aspx
However, this page seems to suggest that it is only available through Volume Licensing:
    http://www.microsoft.com/licensing/software-assurance/#tab=2
Additionally, through the Microsoft License Advisor I can only select to purchase SA if I use a volume licensing program.  I was under the impression that if you use a volume license program that the copy is no longer OEM.
Can anyone clarify how and if I can add SA to an OEM version (purchased through amazon)?  Thank you!

Remember that licensing is a legal agreement between you and Microsoft.  Your lawyers most likely will not accept answers provided by technical resources on a technical forum.  Your best recourse to get licensing questions answered is to contact
Microsoft (www.microsoft.com/licensing) or to talk to a licensing specialist at the vendor from whom you purchase the server.
A couple of points.  You mention purchasing an OEM license from Amazon.  You cannot purchase an OEM license without purchasing the associated server.  If someone is offering an OEM license without a server, I would question that they are selling
you a legal copy.  So let's assume you are also purchasing the server through Amazon.  I do not believe Amazon is a server OEM, so they are most likely working on behalf of some server OEM.  That server OEM would be the one to contact with your
    question.
In that first video you reference, it does speak of the ability to add SA to an OEM license.  But if you listen, you will hear the narrator say that adding SA grants full volume licensing rights.  Though not stated explicitly, that implies the
requirement of having a volume licensing agreement in place in order to be able to add SA to an OEM license.  Therefore, that then jives with the second link.

  • Open No Level (NL) License and Software Assurance (L & SA)

    Dear all,
In System Center Licensing , what does mean by Open No Level (NL) License and Software Assurance (L & SA) ?
    Sengottuvel M

This forum is not the best place to ask licensing questions. It's a very complicated area and changes very quickly. You should run this by your MS License Reseller. You will then get accurate current information.

  • License mobility through software assurance clarityHi

    Hi,
we have bunch of licencing available in the MSDN subscription, we are planning to use these licence in Azure VM, My question is
    1. currently Azure change per VM based on the OS, If we use our won licence then how it will be charged ?
    2. All the OS upgrades are taken care by the Azure team or we need to take care ?

    Hi sharan,
    Thanks for posting!
Base on my understanding, Azure charged by the number of azure virtual core, RAM size and OS and so on. And Windows prices below include Windows Server licensing cost. If you have License Mobility with this Software Assurance benefit, there is no need
to purchase new licenses and no associated mobility fees so, you can easily deploy existing licenses on the Azure cloud platform. I recommend you could refer to the
    azure VM pricing page
    and License Mobility pricing page.
Also, you could try the azure support channel via

  • How does the "Windows 10 is free for its 1st year" offering affect licensing for enterprise customers paying Software Assurance?

At the keynote on 21 January 2015, there was an announcement that Windows 10 was going to be a free upgrade for the first year of its release.
As an enterprise customer,  I'd like to know about the impact of this announcement on Software Assurance. How is the cost of Windows changing for the enterprise?

You are entitled to your opinion, that doesn't make it correct.
Personally, I'll go with Ed Bott since he has a much closer relationship

no plan at this time to offer Windows as a subscription."

  • Boot Camp Assistant fails on Windows 7 Enterprise software assurance DVD

I've been struggling all morning with this and thought I'd post to help others that might encounter this problem. I'm trying to use Boot Camp Assistant 3.0.1 on an Early 2009 20" iMac to install Windows 7 Enterprise. The disc I was using was a genuine Microsoft DVD sent to us through our Software Assurance program. For the life of me I could not get Boot Camp Assistant to recognize that the disc was inserted into the drive. I didn't find an answer to this problem, but I did find that downloading an ISO of the Windows 7 Enterprise installer from Microsoft's Volume License Service Center site and burning it with Disk Utility to a DVD-R was immediately recognized by Boot Camp Assistant and the install proceeded normally.
The disc that didn't work is labeled:
    Microsoft Windows 7 Enterprise
    32-bit x86 Upgrade: Pre-existing OS License Required
    (Volume License Product Key Required)
    DVD
    September 2009
    Software Assurance
    Windows
    End Item Part No.
    FYC-00127
    (barcode)
    X15-72936
If you're unable to get Boot Camp Assistant to recognize a DVD that you received from Software Assurance, you might have better luck burning your own DVD-R from an ISO downloaded from Microsoft.

"The disc that didn't work is labeled:
    Microsoft Windows 7 Enterprise
    32-bit x86 Upgrade: Pre-existing OS License Required
    (Volume License Product Key Required)"
It appears you were attempting to install an upgrade version. Did you have a previous version of Windows installed and were you upgrading, or were you trying a new install using an upgrade dvd?

  • Windows Intune Software Assurance

One of the major selling points of Windows Intune is the Software Assurance rights. However, how does it work exactly? Do Wintune admins have a link to download Windows 7 Enterprise and do they have access to the corresponding serial number?
As a Microsoft authorized reseller, I don't see any place to download the software, but our subscription is probably different than the end-users subscriptions because our's are just a Trial subscription with an extra long expiry term.

  • How to activate Windows To Go from Intune Software Assurance

We recently decided on using Windows Intune with Software Assurance to create Windows To Go drives for some of our employees as they would like to work from home on computers running Windows XP and Windows Vista.
We are using the PowerShell option and the Install.WIM file from the Enterprise ISO available on the Windows Intune Software Assurance download page.
We are running into a problem when activating Windows To Go. We receive an error "DNS name does not exist" when trying to activate. We are building this off of an installation of Windows 8 Enterprise that was received thru Windows Intune Software
Assurance. Additionally, we are using the Dism.exe for imaging the drives.
    What are we doing wrong?
It's important that I note, the machine we are building the Windows To Go images from does not have an internet connection and therefore has not been activated. I was thinking this may be related to our problem but I figured I would as to see if there
may be some other condition we are missing.
Furthermore, I should mention, we are not taking a snapshot of the machine to create a custom WIM file. We are using the raw WIM from the Enterprise ISO. Could this be the cause as well?
I also thought that perhaps we needed to activate the machine we are building from first, then create a custom WIM image of that activated machine and use an activated WIM image file for the Dism process, but then I also considered that if I do that, I have
to run Sysprep which would reset activation, correct?
The Windows To Go image already has Windows Intune installed prior to attempts for activation so I know it's not that.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I know this is very old but I’m trying to clean up old posts. Did you ever solve this? If so it would be good if you could post the solution to assist others. If not, at this
stage, as nobody has answered, I would recommend that you call Intune support.

  • IPhone 2.0 software/Exchange contacts question

I have my contacts on Exchange (2003) arranged as "active" contacts and "non-active" contacts. The reason I did this is because I wanted a manageable number of contacts on my iPhone (and in my BMW's bluetooth register). With the iPhone 1.0 software, when using IMAP/Exchange sync, the phone's contacts only synced the "active" contacts.
Now that I have the 2.0 sofware and have enabled Exchange syncing (which works great), the contact app on the phone syncs both active and not-active contacts, which brings me back to the original problem of too many contacts on the phone and in the car.
So my question is, can I get the iPhone to only sync my "active" contacts list?

Lots of us have these problems. You just have to grin and bear it until Apple gives us a FW fix. Which hopefully won't be too long.

  • Site search software on mac question

maybe off topic but i thought someone on here may be able to help me. I have a site i designed that is a midzize company site. They want to add a site search to it. I have no idea how to start doing this. My question is there a software that does this on the MAC? I can find several that preform on Windows but have yet to find one for the MAC. Any help or direction would be appreciated.

My question is there a software that does this on the MAC.
First of all a MAC is not the same thing as a Mac
I thought the search function on a website was platform indepentant as it used a cgi script of somekind.

  • Ata software reset..question

I get the error ata1 software reset failed (device not ready)  There is a lot of talk
about this bug all over google.  Reading the gentoo forums it seems it is an error
with pmp in the kernel which is sata port multiplyer, which allows for daisy chaining sata ports
like you can with a usb hub.   If you configure the kernel without this support the error goes away.
So my question is, is there a way to go into the kernel that is installed with installation and do a
make menuconfig on this kernel?? ( didnt have much time to research this just looking for a quick answer
    im at work )

No, you'll need to reconfigure and recompile the kernel from ABS.
    http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Ker … n_with_ABS
Do you know what to change in the config to disable this feature? I have had ata1 software reset + emask timeout problems with a DVD burner and this may be the solution. And it seems there are several using Arch who are having this problem as well.
Could you post a link to the gentoo thread as well?

  • Adobe Captivate Help | System audio (for subscription and Adobe Software Assurance customers only)

This question was posted in response to the following article: http://helpx.adobe.com/captivate/using/system-audio.html

I have just a "regular" copy of Captivate CS6 Mac version running OS 10.7.5 bought the box so it isn't a subscription. I'm trying to record a video that has an audio track with it I tried using "record new software simulation" as shown by by Dr. Allen Partridge above. In this video he has an option in his audio preferences that I do not have, namely the check box "system audio". Is this wonderful option ONLY for subscriptions or ASA's? If so WHY? If not what do I need to do in order to record the video WITH the audio?

  • Software/cell towers question

I live in Knoxville, TN and recently went to Tampa, Fl for a short trip. My fascinate worked flawlessly while I was there. So my question is, does the cell towers have anything to do with the software issues on the phone? Like many others, I have experienced poor battery life, can't send or receive text, and missed calls. But the entire time I was there I had not one issue with any of those things, even the battery lasted longer than 12 hours. I currently am still running 2.1 in fear of locking up my phone which is not covered by any warranty since I bought it used. Thanks for your input.

Hi mgayle97! Yes, cell towers can definitely have an impact on phone performance. Cell towers provide access to the network. Their placement, tasking and area topography determine your signal strength (and thus data speeds and battery life). It's possible that your signal was stronger while visiting Tampa because of more outdoor usage, which will always improve service.

  • Change of software - a few questions

    Hello everyone,
So here I am - yet another editor disgusted by the release of Final Cut Pro X - exploring Adobe Premiere Pro.
Now I am really impressed with the looks and feel of Premiere. I use to cut away on Premiere 2.0. From there I picked up Final Cut Pro and never really got back until doomsday - last week. Great to see the work Adobe has put in to the software, they seem to really believe in it. My compliments.
However, I have a few questions that I hope you guys can help me answer. If an question was already posted I apologize, but I find the forum to be very chaotic.
    What's to know;
I work on a  Mac Pro from early 2009 - 8 core, hyperthreaded machine with 12 GB of DDR3 RAM. I have four monitors of which two are referential and work with the BlackMagic Decklink HD Extreme.
I am also very sexy which might bring confusion to the program I suppose.
    Question one:
Coming from Final Cut Pro I am used to the Apple Pro Res workflow and I like it - A LOT. The render quality compared to it's file sizes is amazing. Is there anyway to work with Pro Res in Premiere Pro?
    Question two:
I know Premiere Pro to be 64 bits but when I render my cores won't go over 35% usage. How do I get it to render for the full 100%?
    Question three:
I work with XDCam EX material. However, if I want my sequense to have playback over the BlackMagic devices I need to work in a BlackMagic codec sequense. I have all the latest drivers and I can work in a Pro Res or XDCam EX codec sequense in Final Cut and it will playback just fine. Now of course, you can say - well the blackmagic timeline seems to be a fine workaround - but then of course I have to render everything I put in there. Quite unnessesary. Is there anyway to set my timeline to an XDCam codec (or Pro Res if question one gets answered positifly )?
    Question four:
I notice that whenever I return to Premiere Pro from another program (say via CMD + Tab) it freezes up for some time. Everytime. Frustrating. Is this a common problem? Is there anything I can do to prevent this?
    Question five:
After I import media (thank God for XML support!) Premiere Pro starts generating Peak Files. I read somewhere that it's supposed to be a background proces so that eachtime I do something in the timeline it stops and gives full core and ram power to where I need it. However, I find that it just keeps going and makes Premiere Pro really unresponsive and slow. Anyway to fix this?
    Question six:
Why does Final Cut X suck so badly?
    I think that's it for now .
Hope you can answere these questions all positivly... oh - Questions seven: why is there no dictionary functionality in this text editor??
    Kind regards,
    Wesley Blokker.
PS: If you like check out my work here: http://vimeo.com/eclipseav/videos

    Question one:
Coming from Final Cut Pro  I am used to the Apple Pro Res workflow and I like it - A LOT. The  render quality compared to it's file sizes is amazing. Is there anyway  to work with Pro Res in Premiere Pro?
You bet: import it, and edit. Check out this thread: Apple ProRes workflow in premiere pro?
    Okidoki, thanks mate.
    Question two:
I know Premiere Pro to be  64 bits but when I render my cores won't go over 35% usage. How do I  get it to render for the full 100%?
    What do you mean
by "render?" Are you referring to rendering previews? Exporting? A lot
of it can be influenced by the source footage, the destination format,
the effects you're using, etc. The bottom line is that you won't always
get full-tilt boogie rendering, regardless of the app being 64-bit. In
fact, if you're working with ProRes, you're actually limited to
32-bitness, since Premiere must use QuickTime for decoding of that
format, and QT is only 32-bit. That's more than likely the bottleneck
    you're encountering.
Well I mean rendering your timeline for smooth previews. My footage is XDCam EX 35mb/s material at 1080p25 and comes of a RAID (e-sata) via a server and ethernet cables. However at the moment I am not working with Pro Res since I didn't know you could. I keep the original source footage and place it in a BlackMagic timeline because otherwise I cannot playback via my BM card.
    Don't
worry so much about rendering in Premiere Pro; there's no need to the
vast majority of the time. Even if you're seeing a red bar, that's only
saying that you might need to render to get real-time playback.
Most of my sequences have red bars due to the footage and effects I
use, and I still get rippin' real-time playback. Naturally, on export,
your footage will be rendered, but that's an unavoidable
necessity. Ultimately, sequences work a bit differently in PPro than in
FCP: you can plunk anything you like into a PPro sequence, and it won't
try to render it in the background to conform it to the sequence. Just
    edit and be happy
That doesn't make any sence mate - I have XDCam material right. If I put it in a native sequense, which would be ideal, it won't playback via my BlackMagic monitors. Why is that? The rendering is just another negative aspect of it, but you're right, that don't really matter.
    Question four:
I notice that whenever I return to Premiere Pro from another program (say via CMD + Tab) it freezes up for some time. Everytime. Frustrating. Is this a common problem? Is there anything I can do to prevent this?
    There
have been a few reports of this; I can't remember the resolution. You
didn't mention: are you using CS5 or CS5.5? If you're using CS5, make
sure that you're fully updated to version 5.0.4; go to Help > Updates
to check. If you're on CS5.5, the current version is 5.5.0, so there is
likely something else that is the cause. I'm a PC user, so I've not
followed those reports to closely. Here's one thread which says this is
fixed in CS5.5: Adobe Forums: Premiere CS5 post alt-tab freeze
    Unforutatley I'm running 5.0.4.
    The
generation of PEK files and CFA (conformed audio) files is a point of
frustration for most Premiere Pro users. The best bet is to simply let
it finish: usually, it won't take that long. After you import your
media, go grab some coffee or do some jumping jacks or something else
interesting, and let the process finish. Now, if Premiere Pro continues
to generate files, there is something wonky with the media database,
and it usually means purging the PEK/CFA/etc. files and then cleaning
the media cache database. Premiere Pro will have to regenerate the files
(yeah, again), but this time, they'll usually stick. I think it can be a
little touchy if you continue to try to work during this process, and
Premiere Pro can lose track of those files. That's why most of us have
griped again and again for this process to change or go away forever and
    ever.
    Roger that. Thanks.
    Question six:
Why does Final Cut X suck so badly?
    That's a tough one
    I demand to know!
Questions seven: why is there no dictionary functionality in this text editor??
There is; click the little ABC-checkmark button at the top right corner of the text field.
    Aight, thanks
Thanks for your help mate. I hope you can help me solve the BlackMagic problem here and give some more information about the rendering as it's far from optimal.
